Obama’s Ties to ACORN Show Complicity in Financial Crisis Caused by Bad Mortgages

While Americans were busily distracted by undercover videos exposing outrageous behavior on the part of ACORN this week, Congress appropriated ALL lending authority for higher education. ACORN (read Obama) forced banks to make high risk loans to pimps and prostitutes to buy homes (foreclosed now…causing massive banking bailouts at taxpayer expense), and now President Barack Obama wants to put pimps and prostitutes in college.

The mortgage crisis that sent a shock wave through Wall Street and panicked world financial markets with the Community Reinvestment Act signed into law in 1977 by President Jimmy Carter. The CRA was Carter’s answer to a grassroots activist movement started in Chicago (Jesse Jackson’s Rainbow Coalition), and forced banks to make loans to low income, high risk customers. PhD economist and former Texas Senator Phil Gramm called it “a vast extortion scheme against the nation’s banks.” It is no coincidence that Carter played the race card the same week in September 2009 that ACORN was under attack.

In 1991, Acorn took over the House Banking Committee room for two days to protest efforts to scale back the CRA [Note: Obama, by the way, represented ACORN in the Buycks-Roberson v. Citibank Fed. Sav. Bank, 1994 suit against redlining]. When banks don’t lend to pimps and prostitutes, Obama calls it red-lining. Most significant of all, ACORN was the driving force behind a 1995 regulatory revision pushed through by the Clinton Administration that greatly expanded the and laid the groundwork for the CRA/Fannie Mae/Freddie Mac-borne financial crisis we now confront [Note: Again, Obama was the attorney representing ACORN in this effort]. With this new authority, ACORN used its ACORN Housing subsidiary to promote subprime loans more aggressively and, as we now know, even to pimps and prostitutes.

Ironically, an enthusiastic Fannie Mae Foundation report singled out one paragon of nondiscriminatory lending, which worked with community activists and followed “the most flexible underwriting criteria permitted.” That lender’s $1 billion commitment to low-income loans in 1992 had grown to $80 billion by 1999 and $600 billion by early 2003.

Remember, it was Obama’s Chicago neighbor, the Rainbow Coalition run by Jesse Jackson, that forced private lenders to make risky loans. The lender that Fannie Mae was speaking of was Countrywide, which specialized in subprime lending and had a working relationship with ACORN, who was represented by Obama. When Congress voted to defund ACORN this week, Jesse Jackson Jr. voted against the majority opinion (i.e., to allow ACORN to continue to receive your tax dollars).

Yes, ripped from today's headlines are the very strategies set in motion by the worst president in history: James Earl Carter. Let's pause a moment here and reminisce about 8% unemployment, 16% inflation, and 17% auto loan rates.

So when today's Democrats call for these very same measures, let's remember that Barack O'Carter is running for office (I hear that's the name he prefers.)

It puts a cherry on the top of a career that includes a horrific record as president: the human rights disasters occasioned by his failed policies in Iran and Nicaragua. The fall of the Shah and the rise of the Mullahs in Iran -- directly attributable to Carter - provided the central bastion for Islamofascism leading up to 9/11. His failure to support the Shah also emboldened the Soviets, who rolled into Afghanistan in 1979, correctly figuring that Carter would do nothing but bloviate using a whiny drawl.

Nice work, Mr. Peanut. It's just another volume destined for the Carter Presidential Library of Catastrophic Failures and Anti-Americanism located conveniently in downtown Tehran, Iran.

Many criticized Carter's decision to meet with Dr. Josef Mengele in 1943. Carter, however, defended his actions. "I think it is absolutely crucial that in the final and dreamed-about and prayed-for peace agreement for Europe that the Gestapo be involved and that the SS will be involved," Carter told a Zyklon-B conference outside Auschwitz.

Carter aims to get Mengele to agree to a "peaceful resolution of differences, both with the Jews and also with Catholics, Gypsies and Gays."

Former President Jimmy Carter is reportedly preparing an unprecedented meeting with the leader of Hamas, an organization that the U.S. government considers one of the leading terrorist threats in the world.

The Arabic-language newspaper Al-Hayat reported Tuesday that Carter was planning a trip to Syria for mid-April, during which he would meet with Khaled Meshal, the exiled head of the Palestinian terror group Hamas, on April 18.

... Meshal, who lives in Syria to avoid being arrested by the Israeli government, leads Hamas from his seat in Damascus, where he is a guest of Bashar Assad regime.

The State Department has designated Hamas a "foreign terrorist organization," and some groups hold Meshal personally responsible for ordering the kidnapping of Israeli soldier Gilad Shalit. State Department spokesman Sean McCormack once said of the prospect of meeting with Meshal, "That's not something that we could possibly conceive of."

Some Carter critics called the latest reports typical of the ex-president.

PUTIN SAYS U.S. BEHIND POLL BOYCOTT

The European NGO called the Organization for Security and Co-operation in Europe intended to observe and monitor the upcoming Russian elections. Putin's government refused to cooperate, so the OSCE decided it was in their best interest to leave.

Now, Putin is blaming the United States. Doesn't that sound familiar? After all, we are the Great Satan, source of all evil, right?

Russian President Vladimir Putin has accused the United States of pushing Western observers into boycotting Russian elections. Mr Putin said the goal was to discredit the parliamentary election to be held on 2 December.

The Organization for Security and Co-operation in Europe (OSCE) has categorically rejected the allegations.

Meanwhile, the European Commission has expressed concern at the treatment of the opposition in Russia.

'Nonsense'

The OSCE's election monitoring unit announced earlier this month that it would not attend Russia's election, saying Moscow had refused to provide visas to its staff.

The OSCE later said it would send a delegation of European MPs - rather than a full OSCE team - to monitor the vote.

Mr Putin said the boycott decision "was taken on the recommendation of
the American state department".

"The aim is to discredit the elections, but they won't achieve their goal," he said.

"We will certainly take this into account with our bilateral ties with this state," he added, referring to the US.

But a spokeswoman for the OSCE in Warsaw, Urdur Gunnarsdottir, called Mr Putin's allegations "nonsense".

"The decision was not made in consultation with any government. It was made on operational, not political grounds," Ms Gunnarsdottir told the BBC.

"Our decision did not have the aim to influence the election."

Meanwhile:

The head of the European Union's executive arm, European Commission President
Jose Manuel Barroso, has expressed worries about a weekend crackdown by Russian
police on protests by opponents of President Vladimir Putin.

"I was very concerned to see reports of police harassment and arrests of politicians and peaceful demonstrators in Russia in the last two days," Mr Barroso said in a
statement.

"The right to free speech and assembly are basic fundamental human rights and I very much regret that the authorities found it necessary to take such heavy-handed action."

Police broke up an opposition rally on Sunday, arresting 150 people in St Petersburg, including opposition leader Boris Nemtsov - who was later freed.

Another opposition figure, former chess champion Garry Kasparov, was arrested at a rally in Moscow on Saturday.

The following is a simple Associated Press wire story about how Jimmy Carter got into a shouting match with a member of the Sudanese "security services" while he was on one of his very Carter-like missions to promote peace throughout the world.

It seems to me that, in just seven quick paragraphs the AP writer managed to sum up all the futility that is Jimmy Carters life and his quest for peace on Earth:

KABKABIYA, Sudan (AP) - Former President Carter got in a shouting match Wednesday with Sudanese security services who blocked him from a town in Darfur
where he was trying to meet with refugees from the ongoing conflict.

The 83-year-old Carter walked into this highly volatile pro-Sudanese government town to meet refugees too frightened to attend a scheduled meeting at a nearby compound. He was able to make it to a school where he met with one tribal representative and was preparing to go further into the town when Sudanese security officers stopped him.

"You can't go. It's not on the program!" the local security chief, who only gave his first name as Omar, yelled at Carter, who is in Darfur as part of a delegation of respected international figures known as "The Elders."

"We're going to anyway!" an angry Carter retorted as a crowd began to gather. "You don't have the power to stop me."

U.N. officials told Carter's entourage the Sudanese state police could bar his way. Carter's traveling companions, billionaire businessman Richard Branson and Graca Machel, the wife of former South African President Nelson Mandela, tried to ease his frustration and his Secret Service detail urged him to get into a car and leave.

"I'll tell President Bashir about this," Carter said, referring to Sudanese President Omar al-Bashir.

Carter later agreed to a compromise by which tribal representatives would be brought to him at another location later Wednesday. But the refugee delegates never showed up.

What do you know? The tribal representative (the man who is designated to be the leader of the oppressed black Sudanese who are being killed by the Arab-Muslim government of Sudan) never showed up.

You'd think the Sudanese "security forces" would have followed through on their promise to Carter to make sure that he'd be able to meet with the tribal representative, wouldn't you?

No, I wouldn't. After all, it is the Arab-Muslim government of Sudan who employs the "security forces", and it is the "security forces" themselves who kill the black Sudanese Christians, Animists, and Sufi's at the behest of the Arab-Muslim government.

And somehow, in Jimmy Carter's world, where peace can always be achieved through dialogue (and, if wishes were fishes), such simple facts about the Sudanese government are not accounted for.

And so, Jimmy Carter shouted, "You don't have the power to stop me," at the Sudanese "security" man. Man, I'll bet the 83 year old Carter was really feeling his oats there, raising his voice in righteous indignation there in front of such luminaries as Nelson Mandela and Richard Branson. Yes, it must have felt good to let forth with the moral outrage.

But, ultimately, Jimmy Carter allowed himself to be turned back, as Pacifists like himself always ultimately do.

And, when Jimmy Carter turned back, the genocide continued on, as it will continue on, until someone decides to pick up some guns and kill those who are killing the innocent black people of Sudan.

Carter's idiot - Zbigniew Brzezinski - wants to be Obama's fool

PEW POLL RESULTS: Democrat Malaise and Pessimism, and their love of Leftist Policies

POWER LINE - on Barone and the recent global Pew Poll/"Attitudes Survey":

... what is striking is how much optimism is reflected in the survey, world-wide. Global economic growth has sparked a high level of confidence in the future, even in Africa. The United States, however, is an exception:

Most strikingly, only 25 percent of Americans are positive about the direction of the nation, down from 41 percent in 2002. In only a handful of the 47 nations are there declines of similar magnitude -- Uganda, the Czech Republic, France, Canada and Italy. ***

[B]y a two-to-one margin Americans say their children will be worse off than we are. There's a similar response in Canada, Britain and Brazil. The even more negative verdicts in Western Europe and Japan can be explained as a cool assessment of the combination of low birthrates and overgenerous welfare states.

But what basis do Americans have to suppose that, for the first time in history, a younger generation will be worse off than their parents? Perhaps it's just a feeling that things cannot possibly get any better. In any case, we seem to be in a pronounced national funk.

Barone concludes by suggesting that Americans should snap out of it. Good advice; but I think what we are seeing is partly faux pessimism. As Barone notes:

It's partly a partisan response: Almost all Democrats are negative about the nation's future.

RELIAPUNDIT: I think the decidedly MORE PESSIMISTIC attitude by Democrats in the USA is because - as Leftists - they are temperamentally more pessimistic, and have been for a LONG TIME. And they are MORE LIKELY to see reality through a partisan lens than right-wingers.

[ASIDE: This was proved by a poll in the book FAILING TO WIN: A poll in the book had results which proved that right-wingers were more principled than Democrats and applied core principles to issues; whereas leftists/Democrats selectively applied principles depending on the partisan slant of the question in the poll.

The particular poll in the book was about Iraq: when the situation wa expressed abstractly using hypotheticals and fictitious president and fictitious foreign land, then the Democrats supported Bush's policies in iraq2. But when the question was posed using REAL names and places, then the Democrats OPPOSED them. The Republicans who answered the poll answered the same regardless of whether the places were real or fictitious/hypothetical.]

Remember Carter's Malaise speech? Carter blamed America for its miserable state and wanted more sacrifices. lowered expectations and more statist interventions. Carter:

we've discovered that owning things and consuming things does not satisfy our longing for meaning. We've learned that piling up material goods cannot fill the emptiness of lives which have no confidence or purpose.

The symptoms of this crisis of the American spirit are all around us. For the first time in the history of our country a majority of our people believe that the next 5 years will be worse than the past 5 years. Two-thirds of our people do not even vote. The productivity of American workers is actually dropping, and the willingness of Americans to save for the future has fallen below that of all other people in the Western world.

CARTER DID NOT SEE THAT LEFTISM WAS THE PROBLEM, AND NOT THE PEOPLE. Carter suggested we needed (1) QUOTAS on foreign oil, (2) mandated limits on oil use by PRIVATE utilities, (3) a NEW HUGE FEDERAL BUREAUCRACY, and (4) RATIONING.

FUNNY: He saw the energy crisis much like toady's Dems see the "healthcare crisis": as something which can only be solved by MORE GOVERNMENT AND GOVERNMENT RATIONING. GEE: I WONDER WHY?!

What saved America in the 1980's was not the smörgåsbord of leftist policy carter suggested; it was Reagan and his right-wing approach: lower taxes, smaller government and more faith in free people and free markets.

FAITH IN FREE PEOPLE AND FREE MARKETS: THAT IS TRUE OPTIMISM.

Leftists are people who have no faith in free markets or the people, and that's why they FEEL they NEED to have BIG Government - in order to intervene on behalf of particular people (victims) and particular issues THEY favor.

BOTTOM-LINE:

Democrats/Leftists NEED to feel bad and pessimistic in order to JUSTIFY their GRANDIOSE/BIG GOVERNMENT policies.

FOR EXAMPLE:

They NEED to say that global-warming is man-made AND that it will "destroy life as we know it" in order to make the GOVERNMENT BIGGER AND MORE POWERFUL AND IN ORDER TO ENACT FAR-REACHING CHANGES IN OUR LIVES.

Little crises just can't motivate or justify their colossal UTOPIANISTIC and "revolutionary" policies.

Don't become a victim of their pessimism. Don't fall for their prescriptions: they're worse than the disease.

THE 2008 ELECTION: RUDY VERSUS JIMMY

No matter who actually gets the nomination from either party, I believe the 2008 election will be between Rudy Giuliani and Jimmy Carter, figuratively speaking.

At it's most basic level, the race will be between a Republican who is a hawk and a Democrat who is a Leftist and dove.

Since 2004 - and the nomination of arch dove and traitor John Kerry - the doves have controled the Democrat Party; the McGovernites have regained the control the DLC rested away from them in 1992. Jimmy Carter now gets a seat of honor at Democrat Conventions. His views and actions have never once been repudiated by a single one of the contenders for the Democrat nomination in 2008.

The polarity between today's GOP and today's Democrat Party is, I think, best illustrated by comparing Rudy to Jimmy:

Jimmy told us our best days were behind us. This was defeatism at home, and a rallying call for Big Government. (Not unlike Hillary.)

Rudy saved a city that many thought was ungovernable and in permanent decline.

Jimmy has appeased tyrants and terrorists - like Arafat and Chavez and Fidel.

Rudy has told them to take a hike - well in advance of the conventional wisdom at the time.

Rudy has NEVER sucked up to Fidel. Jimmy has; Obama would. So would Edwards.

Jimmy has likened the democratic and pluralistic nation of Israel (where Arabs and Muslims havre MORE RIGHTS than any other place ON EARTH) to apartheid South Africa.

Rudy has unequivocally stuck up for Israel.

Jimmy and BJ Clinton APPEASED Kim and North Korea.

Rudy's foreign policy team has not one single appeaser.

Jimmy and his gang of Leftist doves would RAISE TAXES.

Rudy cut taxes in NYC! Unempl0yment and the MISERY INDEX went DOWN, just like under Reagan.

Jimmy cut defense spending - as would the current crop of doves.

Rudy was a hawk on crime - raising the money spent for police (as he cut the size of the bloated liberal bureaucracy) ; he'll be a hawk on defense - AND SPENDING.

Jimmy is financed by the Arabs.

Rudy refused $10 million from them right after 9/11.

THE CHOICE IS CLEAR: WHO DO YOU WANT TO BE THE NEXT PRESIDENT, CARTER OR GIULIANI?

Given the chance, ANY of the Democrat contenders would make AWFUL mayors.

Think about it: The policies of the leftist doves - like Carter and Dinkins and Hillary and Edwards and Obama - couldn't save the city.

The policies of Rudy - and Reagan - did.

TONY BLAIR'S FAREWELL

Some may belittle politics. But we who are engaged in it know it is where people stand tall. Although I know it has its many harsh contentions, it is still the arena that sets the heart beating a little faster.

To top it all off, Bush got a great dig in about Jimmy Carter in his remarks on Tony Blair.

INCREASINGLY IRRELEVANT

This was Bush's Spokesman's response to Carter:

I think it's sad that President Carter's reckless personal criticism is out there," Fratto told reporters. "I think it's unfortunate. And I think he is proving to be increasingly irrelevant with these kinds of comments.

I couldn't think of a better phrase to sum up Jimmy Carter than "Increasingly irrelevant". Its just too bad Carter doesn't realize it.

JIMMY CARTER IS DESPICABLE!!

A columnist for Time magazine once wrote that some of Carter’s “One Ranger work has taken him dangerously close to the neighborhood of what we used to call treason.”

Yesterday, Reliapundit got to have his venting session about Carter. Since Carter decided to add more fuel to the fire after Reliapundit's post I decided it was my turn.

What do you call a former U.S. President who willingly bashes his own country, his own President, a leader of another democratic country and yet embraces multiple, bloodthirsty dictators? I will be so bold as to say a traitor!! As I stated in my comprehensive post that I did on him a year ago his worldview seems to be:

Almost all dictators are better than American presidents, blame America for all the world's problems and appease evil instead of defeating it.

The Carter Doctrine

I was ignorant of the Carter Doctrine until a poster at the Netscape blog informed me.

Let our position be absolutely clear: An attempt by any outside force to gain control of the Persian Gulf region will be regarded as an assault on the vital interests of the United States of America, and such an assault will be repelled by any means necessary, including military force.

I guess he was a Blood For Oil kind of guy.
