President Obama was awarded the Nobel Peace Prize. First I had to check the calendar and make sure it wasn't the 1st of April. Okay - I guess I have not followed what the President has done for Arms Control...like in North Korea and Iran. Congratulations Mr. President! You join the ranks of other prizewinners - a few even have made a lasting difference in the World.

They're probably convicted felons, too. Remember a couple of days ago when Glenn Beck pondered just when the "opposition to socialism is racist" propaganda seemed to inundate us, so he ran a Lexis Nexis search on it? (From the last 10 seconds of the first vid on).

Well, the NEA scandal is just the tip of the iceberg. The White House has an army of leftist trolls who spew DNC talking points on conservative blogs.

A Ministry of Propaganda? Aren't a doting press and the liberal double standard enough without having to resort to KGB methods to sell your ideas?

DOJ Blog Squad mission. The DOJ has hired a team of bloggers to influence the blogosphere and online media. Tracy Russo, a partisan campaign blogger for John Edwards, the DNC and Obama Campaign is leading the Blog Squad at the Department of Justice. So much for a non-political Department of Justice. That dream is dead. The Muffled Oar has learned from Department sources that Russo is spending a great deal of time keeping angry gay and transgender partisans quiet and in line regarding the Department’s Defense of Marriage Act. Russo is primarily tasked with spinning the blogosphere about Obama and Holder policies by whatever means necessary. Russo’s mission is to babysit the left and get them energized, or get them quiet, depending on the issue and circumstances.

Isn't this what Nutroots is?

Today the Washington Post demonstrates that the effort to propagandize to the blogosphere is a government-wide campaign.

The essential function of this effort involves government employees spinning bloggers and keeping the left wing net-roots as a vehicle for dissemination of government spin. Direct contact with the left wing blogosphere allows the Obama administration to preserve the left leaning blog community as an activist base to support Obama policies. Engagement with the centrist media and right wing online community allows government officials to rebut stories they disagree with directly. Who is paying for this government-wide effort?: you are.

So Kos et al are actually on the government dole, and are an arm of the DNC. How is that cool again?

Anyway, here's where the story hits home. Remember all those trolls a couple of weeks back over at TAB, all of them from Greenwood, Indiana and somewhere in Illinois?

Not only is the Department of Justice Blog Squad going to reach out to nontraditional media like TPM Muckraker or the Muffled Oar, but they are also tasked with fostering anonymous comments at conservative leaning blogs such as the Free Republic. They are also tasked with fostering anonymous comments, or comments under pseudonyms, at newspaper websites with stories critical of the Department of Justice, Holder and President Obama. One conservative editor recently told the Muffled Oar that they have noticed a significant increase in the number and aggressiveness of comments to stories critical of the Holder Justice Department. “There is clearly a designed effort to rebut stories that are exposing the Holder Justice Department as more political than the last. We’ve seen a change in the pattern of anonymous emails we receive and comments posted at our paper’s webpage.”

One shivers at the thought of a team of Department of Justice Bloggers anonymously trolling the web to spin the message of a President. It is particularly terrifying when those same anonymous government employees at the Department attack media outlets and newspapers anonymously. How much longer before the Blog Squad operates in the open to intimidate political opponents and critics?

They pretty much do, and we have their IPs.

Update -- The DoJ responds: They're soooo going to turn out to be ACORN workers with criminal records.

Political hatchet man turned nonpartisan Department press spokesman Matt Miller denied the existence of the Blog Squad to the Washington Times. What Miller did NOT deny is that the Blog Squad aka Russo and others, "foster" netroots postings supporting the President and attacking media critics. They denied that the blog squad exist and that nameless postings are made. But they did not deny what everyone knows Axelrod is best at - astroturfing and farming out your dirty work. The failure to deny is a virtual admission.

And that's why all the IPs come from only a couple of ISPs in a couple of towns: they're proxy servers which anonymize the trolls' actual IPs and locations. Like they're even using DOJ computers for this, let alone from one central location. The Office of Public Affairs (the press office, aka Ministry of Information) handles this on behalf of the DoJ and the rest of the administration, for that matter.

Remember, this is the same White House which was caught spamming people using a third party. Would you put that past the DoJ?

The father of an Afghan immigrant accused of conspiring to bomb New York around the anniversary of 9/11 was formally indicted Thursday for lying to FBI investigators.

Mohammed Zazi, father of Najibullah Zazi, was indicted by a grand jury in Denver, Colorado, "for making a false statement in a matter involving international and domestic terrorism," the Department of Justice said.

He is free on a 50,000 dollar bond, with electronic monitoring, and was due to appear in court Friday.

A transsexual who wants bigger breasts must have her plea for surgery on the NHS heard in the High Court, a judge said yesterday.

The ruling is likely to cost the Health Service more than £100,000 in legal fees and paperwork on top of taxpayerfunded legal aid costs for the unnamed transsexual.

Barack Obama adviser says Sharia Law is misunderstood.

President Barack Obama's adviser on Muslim affairs, Dalia Mogahed, has provoked controversy by appearing on a British television show hosted by a member of an extremist group to talk about Sharia Law.

Miss Mogahed, appointed to the President's Council on Faith-Based and Neighbourhood Partnerships, said the Western view of Sharia was "oversimplified" and the majority of women around the world associate it with "gender justice".

BRIBE-TAKING POLICEMAN INDICTED

An Arabic border policeman has been caught taking bribes and helping smuggle Arabs into Jerusalem:

Ibrahim Ghanem, a 26-year-old border policeman from Sajur, was indicted on Thursday on suspicion of smuggling illegal Palestinian workers through a security checkpoint under his command on the northern outskirts of Jerusalem in exchange for bribes and various benefits.

Police claim Ghanem smuggled more than 100 illegal workers into the country without any of them undergoing a security check.

The charge sheet filed by the police's Internal Investigations Unit on Thursday includes 14 charges, including accepting bribes, aiding illegal aliens, fraud and unlawful transport.

Three residents of east Jerusalem were also indicted in the case.

In some cases, Ghanem allegedly smuggled 40 illegal workers at a time, and received NIS 50 for each man. He is also accused of giving smugglers sensitive information, such as the license plate numbers of Border Police vehicles, and warning them about patrols to catch smugglers and illegal aliens.

Police also claim Ghanem disrupted their investigation by erasing the numbers of the smugglers with whom he worked from his cell phone. According to the indictment, Ghanem also gave one of his accomplices his ID card, which was taken from him by police during the investigation.

Police claim Ghanem also received benefits, and relayed false reports to his superiors about routine inspections intended to catch illegal workers, which were supposedly carried out at the checkpoint.

Ghanem is also suspected of arms trafficking.

The prosecution has filed a request that the four suspects remain in custody until the end of the legal procedures against them.

What this tells is that even here, Arabs who work in police and army jobs could be dangerous.

SWEDEN SUPPORTS THE BIASED GOLDSTONE REPORT

And if anything else that makes this bad news, they're currently holding the rotating 6 month role as head of the EU council. From the Jerusalem Post:

Sweden supports the Goldstone Commission's report into Operation Cast Lead, the country's foreign minister, Carl Bildt, said Thursday.

Bildt told reporters in Stockholm that South African judge Richard Goldstone was a person with "high credibility" and "high integrity" and that his report carries weight. He said the probe, which alleged that both Israel and Hamas committed war crimes during last winter's Israel offensive against Gaza, is worthy of consideration.

He added the right place for deliberations about the report was the UN Human Rights Council.

Earlier Thursday, Bildt told Swedish Radio that Israel made "a mistake" by not cooperating with the probe, which he called "independent" and "serious."

Sweden currently holds the rotating 6-month presidency of the European Union.

An Israeli Foreign Ministry spokesman called Bildt's remarks "disappointing," and said they demonstrated his "lack of reading comprehension skills," since anyone who read the report would know that it was biased.

The UN Security Council on Wednesday rejected Libya's request to hold a special session on the Goldstone report, but agreed to advance its periodical meeting on the Middle East to October 14 and focus on the war crimes allegations. The meeting was originally scheduled for October 20.

Most of the council's members were against discussing the report until the UN Human Rights Council reached a joint agreement on its recommendations on the topic.

In a surprise move earlier Wednesday, the UN Security Council met behind closed doors at the behest of Libyan diplomats, who requested an emergency session to discuss the report. The request - supported by Palestinian officials - upsets a fragile agreement achieved less than a week ago at the UN Human Rights Council in Geneva which delayed action on the Goldstone Report until at least March.

Absolutely disgusting. "High integrity"? Something Bildt definitely doesn't have. And neither of these two disgraceful thugs have credibility either. Disappointing is what describes those UN thugs all.

The un-American Obama administration backs Muslim speech restrictions at the U.N.

"The Obama administration has marked its first foray into the UN human rights establishment by backing calls for limits on freedom of expression. The newly-minted American policy was rolled out at the latest session of the UN Human Rights Council, which ended in Geneva on Friday. American diplomats were there for the first time as full Council members and intent on making friends.

President Obama chose to join the Council despite the fact that the Organization of the Islamic Conference holds the balance of power and human rights abusers are among its lead actors, including China, Cuba, and Saudi Arabia. Islamic states quickly interpreted the president's penchant for "engagement" as meaning fundamental rights were now up for grabs. Few would have predicted, however, that the shift would begin with America's most treasured freedom.

The Obama administration decided that a revamped freedom of expression resolution, extracted from Canadian hands, would be an ideal emblem for its new engagement policy. So it cosponsored a resolution on the subject with none other than Egypt--a country characterized by an absence of freedom of expression.

The new resolution, championed by the Obama administration, has a number of disturbing elements. It emphasizes that "the exercise of the right to freedom of expression carries with it special duties and responsibilities . . ." which include taking action against anything meeting the description of "negative racial and religious stereotyping." It also purports to "recognize . . . the moral and social responsibilities of the media" and supports "the media's elaboration of voluntary codes of professional ethical conduct" in relation to "combating racism, racial discrimination, xenophobia and related intolerance."

Pakistan's Ambassador Zamir Akram, speaking on behalf of the Organization of the Islamic Conference, made it clear that they understand the resolution and its protection against religious stereotyping as allowing free speech to be trumped by anything that defames or negatively stereotypes religion. The idea of protecting the human rights "of religions" instead of individuals is a favorite of those countries that do not protect free speech and which use religion--as defined by government--to curtail it.

5 FOOLISH SOMALI PIRATES CAPTURED AFTER MISTAKING FRENCH NAVY SHIP FOR COMMERCIAL

Somali jihadist pirates return to the news with the following:

PARIS (AP) - Somali pirates in two skiffs fired on a French navy vessel early Wednesday after apparently mistaking it for a commercial boat, the French military said. The French ship gave chase and captured five suspected pirates.

No one was wounded by the volleys from the Kalashnikov rifles directed at La Somme, a 3,800-ton refueling ship, French military spokesman Rear Adm. Christophe Prazuck said.

La Somme "was probably taken for a commercial ship by the two small skiffs" about 250 nautical miles (290 statute miles) off Somalia's coast, Prazuck said.

"They understood their mistake too late," he said.

One skiff fled, and La Somme pursued the second one in an hour-long chase.

"There were five suspected pirates on board. No arms, no water, no food," Prazuck said.

Uh, earth to AP, you might want to correct that likely miscontexting there. Those crappy pirates DID have arms in the form of Kalashnikovs.

France is a key member of the EU's naval mission, Operation Atalanta, fighting Somali pirates in the Gulf of Aden. It has aggressively tracked and caught suspected pirates and handed over at least 22 to Kenya. An additional 15 suspects were brought to France for prosecution after allegedly seizing boats belonging to French nationals.

President Nicolas Sarkozy called for tougher action against piracy last year after dozens of attacks.

Now, lock those pirates up and send them to a psychiatrist.

Errors by NHS staff led to 5,700 deaths in six months, report says

More than 5,700 patients died or suffered serious harm as a result of staff errors in the NHS over a six-month period, figures showed today.

Figures from the National Patient Safety Agency showed that 459,500 patient safety incidents and near misses occurred in England between last October and March.

This is a 12 per cent increase on the previous six months but the agency, which collects and monitors safety data in the NHS, said that better reporting was fuelling the rise.

Palestinians urge world: Stop Judaization of Jerusalem

The Western-backed Palestinian Authority urged the international community on Monday to "force it [Israel] to put off its attempts to take over Jerusalem and Judaize it".

The Palestinian cabinet, issuing a strong statement after a meeting in the West Bank town of Ramallah, pledged "to confront Israel" as Israel Defense Forces troops clashed with protesters for a second day in the Jerusalem area.

Palestinian youths hurled rocks at Israel policemen and burned cardboard cartons and trash in the streets of Shoafat in Arab East Jerusalem, after Israel arrested a teenager it suspects stabbed and wounded a soldier conducting a security check on a bus.

The violence spread to the outskirts of Ramallah, where about 50 Palestinian teenagers took cover behind trucks and cars while hurling rocks at Israeli soldiers, who reporters saw responding by firing tear gas and rubber bullets.

One policeman was wounded by a rock and seven protesters were arrested. Nine Palestinians and two Israeli policemen were treated for minor injuries in scuffles that erupted in Jerusalem on Sunday, and 30 were hurt in similar clashes a week ago.

Palestinians have warned that the tensions flaring over access to a holy compound housing the al-Aqsa mosque, an area also revered by Jews as the site of an ancient temple, could, on the background of stalled peace talks, ignite a third uprising.

The al-Aqsa Mosque was originally a small prayer house built by the Rashidun caliph Umar, but was rebuilt and expanded by the Ummayad caliph Abd al-Malik and finished by his son al-Walid in 705 CE.[5]

SO, THE MOSQUE ON THE MOUNT WASN'T BUILT WHILE MUHAMMAD WAS ALIVE.

THEREFORE IT CANNOT BE THE ONE IN THE KORAN.

BTW: THE DOME OF THE ROCK WASN'T BUILT UNTIL AFTER MUHAMMAD WAS DEAD.

The Dome of the Rock (Arabic: مسجد قبة الصخرة‎, translit.: Masjid Qubbat As-Sakhrah, Hebrew: כיפת הסלע‎, translit.: Kipat Hasela) is an Islamic shrine which houses the Foundation Stone, the holiest spot in Judaism, and is a major landmark located on the Temple Mount in Jerusalem. The Dome of the Rock is located at the visual center of an ancient man-made platform known as the Temple Mount, which Muslims refer to as the "Noble Sanctuary". The platform, greatly enlarged under the rule of Herod the Great, is the site of the Second Jewish Temple which was destroyed during the Roman Siege of Jerusalem in 70 CE. In 637 CE, Jerusalem was conquered by the Rashidun Caliphate army during the Islamic invasion of the Byzantine Empire.

The Dome of the Rock was erected between 685 and 691 CE. The names of the two engineers in charge of the project are given as: Yazid Ibn Salam from Jerusalem and Raja Ibn Haywah from Baysan. Umayyad Caliph Abd al-Malik ibn Marwan who initiated construction of the Dome, hoped that it would “house the Muslims from cold and heat” [2] and intended the building to serve as a shrine for pilgrims and not as a mosque for public worship. [3] Historians contend that the Caliph wished to create a structure which would compete with the existing buildings of other religions in the city.

The Rightly Guided Caliphs or The Righteous Caliphs (الخلفاء الراشدون al-Khulafā’u r-Rāshidūn) is a term used in Sunni Islam to refer to the first four Caliphs who established the Rashidun Caliphate. This is the real reason why - IMHO - McChrystal met with POTUSBHO in AF#1 in Denmark.

We Need a Bigger House
The remedy for an undemocratic system: more democracy.

Watching the House of Representatives on late-night C-SPAN, you might have any number of reactions, including seppuku-inducing boredom. Depending on who’s talking, you might also feel disgust, rage, contempt, or, in rare cases, inspiration. But one reaction you probably won’t have is: “Gosh, if only there were more of these jokers.”

That’s too bad. Because what our political system may be lacking more than anything else is enough members of Congress. No, really. Seriously, stop laughing.

Except for a brief effort to accommodate Alaska and Hawaii, the size of the House has been frozen at 435 members since 1911. A 1929 law, driven in part by a desire to keep immigrants underrepresented, has kept it that way.

But there’s nothing sacred about the 435 number. In fact, the Founders would be aghast at the idea that the “peoples’ house” is filled with pols speaking for hundreds of thousands of citizens.

... Under today’s apportionment system, the “ideal” congressional district is 700,000 people, with some districts reaching nearly 1 million. Montana, with a population of 958,000, has just one representative, but each of Rhode Island’s two districts has about 530,000 people.

There is, of course, an important principle here, and if all of Montana’s residents were black, it would be easier for everyone to see it. Montanans’ votes don’t count as much as Rhode Islanders’ — in fact, a Montanan’s vote only counts for about three-fifths of a Rhode Islander’s. That America’s slave population was counted by the same ratio under the original Constitution is usually cited, rightly, as one of the document’s greatest sins. A lawsuit filed in federal court in Mississippi last month hopes to force Congress to remedy the status quo’s assault on the one-person, one-vote principle by increasing Congress to as many as a paltry 1,761 members.

A SIMPLE IDEA TO MAKE AMERICA'S GOVERNMENT EVEN MORE REPRESENTATIVE AND RESPONSIVE

Glenn links to a review of the new Larry Sabato book which recommends 23 - YUP TWENTY-THREE! - amendments to the Constitution.

One wonders why Sabato doesn't just throw it out - like Chavez - and start from scratch!

I have a simple idea which would improve both the responsiveness and representativeness of the federal government, and it would NOT require a single solitary change to the Constitution!

I would INCREASE the number of Representatives in the House to 600.

I would assign the new seats by using the US DECENNIAL CENSUS figures - exactly the purpose for which the Census was designed and put into the Constitution by the Framers.

These new seats would not be attached to an incumbent of any party and would therefore be open seats more readily contested fairly - (since incumbents have great electoral advantages and are returned to office so frequently).

Having more Representatives would make each district smaller and reduce the committee responsibilities of each representative and thereby allow her/him to do more constituent work - BE MORE RESPONSIVE.

The number of representatives was capped -BY STATUTE - in 1929:

The Permanent Apportionment Act of 1929 capped the Membership at that level, creating a procedure for reapportioning state delegations in the House under “the then existing number of Representatives” (see Act of June 18, 1929, ch. 28, 46 Stat 21).

It can be undone by statute. A simple majority vote by each body of Congress and a signature by the POTUS.

A body with 600 members is much more manageable now than a body with 420 in 1929. Many representative bodies in the USA and around the world have 600 members and function fine.

This change would also have the added benefit of making the electoral college more representative and more accurately reflect the wishes of the people.

DECENNIAL RE-APPORTIONMENT AND THE CENSUS

POLIBLOGGER posted on an article by FRUITS AND VOTES. F&V suggested we expand the House of Representatives and make it more representative and responsive and districts more equal in population size by using "THE WYOMING RULE": Under the ‘Wyoming Rule,’ the standard Representative-to-population ratio would be that of the smallest entitled unit–i.e. currently Wyoming. (Poliblogger rans the numbers.) I AGREE: we need MORE Reps. But maybe not that many. Here're my thoughts:

(1) The US CENSUS was specifically designed to allow for the ORDERLY EXPANSION of the House so that districts would be equal in size, and the number of districts would expand as the population expanded.

(2) The problem is that since 1920, the number of districts has been frozen at 435. This was done by an ACT OF CONGRESS; it can be undone by an ACT OF CONGRESS, too. It doesn’t require a constitutional amendment.

(3) Since 1920, every decennial census has led MERELY TO RE-APPORTIONMENT: changes/shifts of Reps withing the 435. Some states get more Representatives other states get theirs reduced. Sometimes a state which has grown in population may have their number or Reps reduced because all states must have at least one Rep.

(4) The total number of Reps in the House could be and should be expanded - if not by the "Wyoming Plan" how about just increasing the number od reps in the House to a NICE ROUND NUMBER: 500 - by adding an additional 65 seats. (I think that 500 has a nice ring to it - especially for a nation of 50 states!) These could be/would be apportioned by population. Every ten years we dicide the population by 500 and distribute the seats accordingly.

(5) Average district size would be each smaller - and more representative, AS THE FOUNDERS ORIGINALLY PLANNED. More Reps would mean fewer committee assignments for each Rep and more constituent time. (Also, the advent and pervasiveness of hi-tech communications makes the management of a larger House less encumbering than in 1920, or since 1920. In fact, MANY national and state legislatures all over the world have many more mebers than we do and are larger than a mere 435. If they can mange it, then so can we.)

(6) As these 65 NEW SEATS would ALL BE OPEN SEATS, they’d be VERY competitive races at a time when most seats are NOT COMPETITIVE. That’s a good thing too. This would be A NEW BIRTH OF REPRESENTATION, which would NOT make government bigger, but make it MORE RESPONSIVE AND MORE REPRESENTATIVE.

ALSO: (7) This would change the ELECTORAL COLLEGE - making it even more reflective of the population.

I DARE A BRAVE CONGRESSMAN TO INTRODUCE THIS. It should get BI-PARTISAN SUPPORT, becasue open seats are VERY COMPETITIVE, and the GOP is VERY COMPETITIVE in the CITIES AND COUNTIES which have had the most growth.
