I WASN'T GOING TO RESPOND when Andrew Sullivan -- deliberately, or in unforgivable cluelessness -- transformed my statement about leaving the Libertarian Party into something about not being a libertarian at all.

Andrew says a lot of silly things about me these days, and life is too short to pay attention to them.

But now that silliness seems to be spreading. So let me repeat what I said before: "But note that no longer being a member of the Libertarian Party is hardly the same thing as not being a libertarian. If it were, there would be precious few libertarians left."

Anyone who can't understand the difference between libertarian ideas and the Libertarian Party probably isn't smart enough to be blogging, and certainly shouldn't have his page topped with the words "Of no party or clique."

Sullivan's attack on Reynolds is Stalinist because it demonstrates how the postmodern Left doesn't tolerate any deviation from the party-line and how they attack and ostracize anyone who breaks ranks.

You see, even though Glenn supports Gay Marriage - Sullivan's BIG ISSUE, (and even though he stood against the Congress and the religious Right during the Schiavo Affair), he is a hawk, (and has many other libertarian positions at odds with conservatives like me), and therefore scum according to postmodern Leftists like Sullivan.

Patients who refuse to change their unhealthy lifestyles should not be treated by the NHS, the Conservatives said today.

In a bid to ease spiralling levels of obesity and other health concerns, a Tory panel said certain treatments should be denied to patients who refuse to co-operate with health professionals and live healthier lifestyles.

And those who do manage to improve their general health by losing weight and quitting smoking, for example, would receive "Health Miles" cards.

Points earned could then be used to pay for health-related products such as gym membership and fresh vegetables.

The aim is a shift in the NHS towards preventing disease and ill-health rather than having to treat it.

The proposal was one of a raft of measures suggested in a review of public services, ordered by David Cameron.

CHUCK SCHUMER TARGETS THE SUPREME COURT

New York Senator Chuck Schumer is one of the MOST repugnant members of the United States Senate. He is, in fact, an Authoritarian, if not a Stalinist. He would be very happy if we had a form of government where we could get rid of elections and the people are governed by a ruling elite...the kind of government Plato and Marx wrote about.

Schumer is angry that the new conservative members of the Supreme Court have made some decisions that have gone against precedent. In fact, one of the court's liberal members, Stephen Breyer, is actually lobbying members of Congress to look at the recent decisions. Naturally, he was able to persuade the Senate's biggest eunuch, Arlen Specter; [see LMC's post.]

Breyer has publicly raised concerns that conservative justices were violating stare decisis, the legal doctrine that, for the sake of stability, courts should generally leave precedents undisturbed.

"It is not often in the law that so few have so quickly changed so much," Breyer said, reading his dissent from the bench in June to a 5-4 ruling that overturned school desegregation policies in two cities.

Okay, so the court shouldn't ever go against precedent. What is established now is absolutely, Constitutionally correct and not even debatable. What is this, Global Warming?

I'd like to ask Justice Breyer if how he feels about the precedent of the Dred Scott decision. "Oh well, that's was an obvious mistake," he'll say. So what? It's precedent, isn't it?

Anyway, back to the point at hand. Chuck Schumer has declared that Bush will not be allowed to put another conservative on the Supreme Court. Well, democracy was fun while it lasted, wasn't it?

There's another story out today about how Daily Kos and Moveon.org are going to start targeting advertisers on Fox News. Their argument:

"We're not trying to silence anybody," Green said. "Rush Limbaugh has a right to be on the air—he admits his point of view. Fox doesn't."

I'm making a similar call to the Democrat Party. Admit who you really are.

I just love how the Lefties say the Constitution is written in stone when it comes to decisions it LIKES (like Roe v Wade - which BTW is based on entirely vestigial science!), but when it comes to things they don't like, then their favorite refrain is, "IT'S A LIVING CONSTITUTION!"

CAIRO: EGYPTIAN-CANADIAN CONVICTED OF SPYING FOR ISRAEL

Bad but unsurprising news from Egypt:

It took all of 15 seconds, but for a former Toronto bank teller named Mohamed el-Attar those few brief moments spelled 15 years in an Egyptian jail.
In a one-sentence ruling issued here this morning, Judge Sayyed el-Gohary of Egypt’s State Security Emergency Court found el-Attar guilty on all three charges against him, all involving allegations that he betrayed the country of his birth by committing acts of espionage on behalf of neighbouring Israel.

Clad in a grey suit and a ceremonial green sash, the bespectacled judge gave no reasons for his verdict and promptly departed the courtroom as bedlam immediately erupted, with spectators swarming toward the steel prisoner’s cage where the diminutive el-Attar, clad in a white prison jump suit, was at once hustled away without saying a word.

Only moments earlier, he had entered the cage with both hands raised, fingers crossed. The gesture turned out to be futile.

“I was convinced he would be acquitted,” said Ibrahim Bassiouni, the Egyptian lawyer who represented el-Attar after another lawyer abandoned the case nearly two months ago. As he spoke, Bassiouni was surrounded by jostling camera crews from some 20 different Egyptian, Arab, and Canadian TV services, as well as a host of print reporters. “They had no concrete evidence against the defendant.”

Only an hour prior to today’s ruling, the silver-maned lawyer had been confidently predicting that his client would be acquitted.

Despite what they say, it doesn't surprise me at all that el-Attar was convicted. Not after how Israeli-Druze citizen Azzam Azzam was a decade ago in a similar situation.

Now, what needs to be done is to get el-Attar some foreign aid to be released.

U.S. ATTORNEYS FIRING "SCANDAL" A SIGN OF THE TIMES

Heard a little bit of Rush in the car this morning and he was talking about how this U.S. Attorneys firing scandal isn't a scandal at all.

It's true... President Bush can fire who he wants and his actions are hardly unprecedented.

Bill Clinton after all fired all the U.S. Attorneys (93) when he first came into office. It was his right and even back then, I didn't blame him.

We elect presidents for a reason: to lead. It's not out of line to want to bring in your own like-minded people, hell, I would think it's to be expected. Bush's failure to do so himself will probably go down as the biggest mistake of his presidency. He tried so hard to make his "new tone" work, and to wit he held onto a lot of Clinton people in the Executive Branch. The DOJ should have been cleaned out top to bottom, as well as the CIA and the State Department. But no, Bush let the stay and they continued to do their best to undermine his policies at every turn.
I should have seen it coming when the White House tried to cover-up the vandalism left by the Clinton thugs (remember the graffiti-ed walls and missing W's on the keyboards?).

No fight...no fight at all.

Now with this U.S. Attorney thing, Chuck Schumer says, 'well, yeah, Clinton fired all of them in '93 but Bush fired U.S. Attorneys that were investigating cases detrimental to him or not investigating cases that were beneficial to him.' However, no one seems to know what these cases are. This mountain of evidence seems to be for Chuck's eyes only, but even if there is evidence, it's still the president's prerogative.

Bottom line, we have a Stalinist movement to make it a crime for a sitting Republican president to exercise his executive powers.

How is this able to happen? One, our President refuses to fight back. Two, few people in the general public even know what U.S. Attorneys are and how they fit into our system of government. This in turn makes point three possible: We have an Orwellian up-is-down, black-is-white argument coming from the Democrats. The MSM reports it, doesn't question it and it becomes common knowledge that 'Bush illegally fired U.S. Attorneys.' That's all it takes in today's society. More at Jim-Rose.com...
