Our readers probably know that volcanic ash from an eruption in Iceland has dramatically curtailed air traffic in Northern Europe. Of course there will be secondary negative repercussions for the economy - especially airlines and travel related businesses. What you may not have pondered is that the ash cloud in the upper atmosphere will probably shade the arctic icecap and the area of the globe south of the arctic circle. I predict a cooler summer in the northern hemisphere and some beautiful sunsets. Volcanic eruptions have led to dramatic cooling in the past. This is far more significant than some CO2 - now the question is how will the government make us pay for it????
