What won this election was the packaging skills of David Axelrod, the swooning complicity of the media, the ruthless opportunism of Barack Obama, and the unprincipled thuggishness of his supporters. But so is Maggie Gallagher:
This vote [a sweep for pro-marriage amendments in California, Arizona, and Florida], like earlier votes in Wisconsin, Oregon, and Michigan, affirms that when it comes to marriage there is no such thing as a blue state or a red state. Americans support marriage as the union of husband and wife. And so is Mark Levin:
It will be difficult to voice legitimate criticism of Obama and his policies if the response of his campaign and surrogates these last many months — some vicious and some perfectly fine — is any indication. I agree with Mark when he underscores the battle ahead. It is very serious. On the other hand, I am not sure that Obama's victory really proves Mark Hemingway's assertion:
In so far as an Obama victory proves that America truly is a meritocracy where the arbitrary circumstances of your birth won't impede your success, that is a wonderful, wonderful thing.Well, may the seriousness of the battle bring forth the best that we have. I should probably close with a stern quote from LOTR. Any suggestions?
