MOST SNOW EVER ON EASTER IN GREAT BRITAIN

ANANOVA: Heavy snow brings Easter white-out
Motorists have been urged not to take to the roads in some parts of the country as heavy overnight snow brought widespread travel disruption.

Parts of north-east England, Yorkshire and Staffordshire were hardest hit as a blanket of heavy snow fell overnight.

North Yorkshire Police described the conditions as "horrendous" with a number of minor accidents on the county's roads.

A spokesman said: "There is plenty of snow and the major problem is with the roads. It is horrendous.

"The snow came down suddenly. Our advice is only drive if you really must. I drove six miles to work this morning and it was the worst I can remember for a long time. It is very icy and very cold.

Snow and bitterly cold conditions have swept across the country, causing chaos on the roads during Easter weekend.

The Met Office has issued severe weather warnings as icy winds and snow blanketed Scotland, much of northern and eastern England, parts of the Midlands and south-east England overnight and this morning. Heavy snow also fell in London this morning.

HORNCASTLE NEWS:
EASTER Sunday motorists faced a grim start this morning as a thick blanket of snow covered the area.

Police warned drivers to take care and only travel on essential journeys.
The A153 between Horncastle and Louth was particularly treacherous in the Cawkwell Hill area. Meanwhile, the snow brought delight to many youngsters as they ventured out for snowball fights and to see who could build the biggest snowman.

Heavy snow has continued to cause problems in many parts of the North East and Cumbria.

Three men had to be rescued from Scafell Pike in Cumbria early on Sunday after becoming trapped in snow drifts.
