VIA DRUDGE: THIS IS LONDON: Mohammed now second most popular boys' name in Britain
Britain's rising immigrant population has bumped the Muslim name Mohammed into second place in the latest list of most popular boys' names.
For the last 13 years Jack has been the most popular boys' name in the land.
But in multicultural Britain children named after the Muslim prophet Mohammed come a close second.
In a reflection of the increasing influence of Islam, figures released yesterday showed the most popular spelling of the name - Mohammed - had climbed five places to 17th in the annual list of top baby names.
However, when the seven other spellings of the name are taken into account, the total comes to 6,347 babies, making it the second most popular name of the year - up from 5,936 last year.
- NONE OF THE OTHER TOP TWENTY NAMES FOR MALE BABIES IS ISLAMIC.
- NINE ARE BIBLICAL.
WHAT NO ONE SEEMS TO NOTICE IS THAT NONE OF THE FEMALE TOP TWENTY NAMES IS ISLAMIC.
SINCE JUST OVER HALF OF ALL BABIES BORN ARE FEMALE, WE SHOULD EXPECT TO HAVE SEEN AT LEAST 6400 FEMALE ISLAMIC BABIES BORN IN BRITAIN IN 2007, AND MANY WITH THE SAME NAME - SO THAT AT LEAST ONE MIGHT SHOW UP IN THIS TALLY.
BUT NOT ONE DOES. NOT A SINGLE ONE.
- NOT FATIMA. NOT AISHA. NOT MARYIAH. NOT MAYMUNAH. NOT RUQAYYAH, NOT SAFIYAH. NOT SALMA. NOT SAWDAH. NOT UMAMAH. NOT ZAYNAB.
THIS SEEMS ODD.
- EITHER THERE ARE NO POPULAR MUSLIM NAMES FOR WOMEN, OR SOMETHING ELSE IS GOING ON.
- IT'S POSSIBLE THAT MUSLIM PARENTS-TO-BE WHO PREFER MALE CHILDREN ARE USING ULTRA-SOUND TO FIND OUT THE GENDER OF THE FETUS AND ARE ABORTING THE FEMALE ONES.
- (PERHAPS THE EXPECTANT MOTHER AGREES BECAUSE SHE DOESN'T WANT A DAUGHTER TO BE SUBJECT TO THE SYSTEMIC MISOGYNY OF ISLAM.)
- THIS THEORY COULD BE PROVEN BY CHECKING THE BIRTH RATES BY GENDER OF MUSLIMS. IF THERE ARE ROUGHLY EQUAL AMOUNTS OF MALES AND FEMALES THEN THERE IS NO BASIS FOR CONCERN. (BLEG: SOMEBODY PLEASE GET THIS INFO AND CRUNCH THE NUMBERS.)
- THIS IS NOT A NON-CREDIBLE POSSIBILITY OR THEORY: CHINESE AND INDIANS AND OTHER SOCIETIES PRACTICE GENDER-BASED ABORTIONS.
AND REMEMBER: THE NHS WOULD PAY FOR THE ULTRA-SOUND AND THE ABORTION. NO QUESTIONS ASKED.

- THERE ARE 60 MILLION BRITS.
- 3% ARE MUSLIM - (AT LEAST 1.3 MILLION IN LAST CENSUS, 2001) PROBABLY 2 MILLION.
- THERE WERE ABOUT 700,000 TOTAL BIRTHS IN BRITAIN THIS YEAR.
- EXTRAPOLATING: BASED ON (1) A HIGHER BIRTH RATE FOR MUSLIMS, AND (2) GUESSING THAT HALF THE MALE BABIES WERE NOT NAMED M'HH'M'D, THIS WOULD MEAN THERE WERE ABOUT25,000 MUSLIM BIRTHS.
- AND 13,000 FEMALE BIRTHS - IF THE FEMALE FETUSES WERE BOUGHT TO TERM.
- THEY WOULD EACH GET A MUSLIM FIRST NAME -
- AND IT WOULD BE REASONABLE TO EXPECT AT LEAST ONE TO SHOW UP ON A LIST OF THE TOP TWENTY NAMES.

This is interesting, but to be clear about it, you'd have to know the frequency of the most common female names in Muslim populations (primarily in Pakistan & India). The fact that Muhummad is so prominent may be an artefact caused by its overwhelming popularity. No other Muslim male name showed up, either.

ONLY SPELLINGO WAS IN THE TO TWENTY.
AT 17.
IT IS REASONABLE TO EXPECT ONE MUSLIM FEMALE NAME IN THE TOP TWENTY.
THERE ARE LIKELY 5 MOST COMMON FEMALE NAMES - WITH ONE, THE MOST POPULAR GETTING ENOUGH TO BE IN THE TOP TWENTY.
UNLESS SOMETHING ELSE IS HAPPENING.
What you are saying is absolute rubbish!
It is against the muslim faith to abort a healthy fetus, it is just as likely for a Sikh or Hindu or christian to abort a female fetus.
On scan it is not until 20 weeks that you can sex a fetus. It is very unlikely that any gynaecologist would abort a fetus at that gestation unless there was a major congenital abnormality. I work as a gynaecologist I would know.
Mohammed has been in the guiness book of records as being the commonest name internationally since the 1970's. There is no muslim female equivalent.
So I can say categorically that MUSLIMS ARE NO ABORTING THEIR FEMALE FETUSES!!!!
