MORE PROOF THAT SOCIALIZED MEDICINE SUCKS - FROM ITALY

GUARDIAN (UK):
Italian opposition politicians yesterday demanded a full inquiry into claims that up to 50,000 people a year die in Italy's hospitals because of medical error. A report presented to a congress organised by the Italian Association of Medical Oncology concluded that even the most conservative estimate pointed to a figure of 14,000 deaths a year, which is twice the death toll on Italy's roads.
IOW: It's more dangerous to go to a hospital in Italy than to drive on it's roads. Think about it. Do you want that kind of healthcare here!? I don't.

Well according to the semi-official "Institute of Medicine," almost 100,000 American patients die each year at least partially as the result of "medical errors." These statements have to be unpacked carefully.

On the other hand, there are not quite 700,000 practicing physicians in the US; so that's one death per 7 physicians.

In contrast, there are less than 1,000 accidental firearms deaths in the USA every year, and there are hundreds of millions of firearms in private hands.

Clearly, it is much more dangerous to have a doctor in your home than to have a gun!
