STEM CELLS, SNOWFLAKES AND ABORTIONS

"REUTERS":
U.S. President George W. Bush cast his first veto on Wednesday to block legislation to expand embryonic stem cell research, putting him at odds with top scientists, most Americans and some fellow Republicans.

"It crosses a moral boundary that our decent society needs to respect, so I vetoed it," Bush said of the research that involves tiny human embryos. ...

The issue has become ethically and politically volatile because extracting the cells entails destruction of an embryo.

Bush believes that is destroying a life. His opponents say the research, which would be done only on excess embryos from fertility treatments that would otherwise be destroyed, is potentially life-saving. ...
NYTIMES:
“This bill would support the taking of innocent human life,” Mr. Bush said at the White House, surrounded by scores of children born as a result of an embryo-adoption program and their parents.

“Each of these human embryos is a unique human life with inherent dignity and matchless value,” Mr. Bush said. Looking at the children around him, he said to loud applause, “These boys and girls are not spare parts.”
THE GUARDIAN (UK):
Mr Bush appeared yesterday with 18 families who had "adopted" frozen embryos discarded by other couples but subsequently used to have children.

"Each of these children was adopted while still an embryo and has been blessed with a chance to grow, to grow up in a loving family," Mr Bush said. "These boys and girls are not spare parts."
The living breathing dreaming children who were with George W. Bush as he vetoed this bill were all adopted as embryos through the SNOWFLAKES EMBRYO ADOPTION PROGRAM.

(VIDEO OF HIS REMARKS HERE AT EXPOSE THE LEFT.)

And this program intimates the ULTIMATE moral and political solution to the ENTIRE abortion problem.

As we all know, thew REAL problem is not abortion; the REAL problem is UNWANTED PREGNANCIES, and abortion is just a REAL BAD SOLUTION to that problem.

Embryo adoption is the solution - for pregnant women who don't want to go to term. Instead of aborting, they should give up their embryo for future adoption.

It's a WIN-WIN-WIN: the pregnant woman gets to terminate her pregnancy; the embryo gets a chance to live and breath and dream; and loving parents - who would otherwise not be able to have a pregnancy or a child - get to have a pregnancy and a baby!

Each side in the abortion debate - instead of financing political brawls - should finance medical research to make this a reality, and charities to make it a viable alternative for all women who have unwanted pregnancies.

We could shut down EVERY ABORTION CLINIC, and re-open them as embryo extraction, freezing and adoption centers.

(I have bloggeed on this before: HERE.) Full round-up HERE.

That's an interesting proposal, but the fact that there are so many children waiting to be adopted (1.6 million in 2004, according to the Census Bureau) makes me suspect there wouldn't be enough demand from parents for children who aren't their own by blood to make it feasible. Moreover, embryo storage would be a big issue-- when embryos are frozen for fertility treatments it's usually when they're no more than a week from conception; it becomes less likely that a thawed embryo can be carried to term after a week has passed. I would suspect that women who end up having abortions are not interested in having children and thus would be less likely to be taking pregnancy tests right away-- in other words, by the time she realizes she is pregnant, it would be too late for the expectant mother to use the procedure.

Reliapundit,
You are the Leonardo Da Vinci of political innovation.

ADRIAN;
YOUR POINTS CAN ALL BE DEALT WITH:

INSURANCE COMPANIES COULD REQUIRE THAT WOMEN DETERMINE IF THEIR PREGNANT WITHIN A PERIOD DURING WHICH AN EMBRYO COULD BE EXTRACTED; WE COULD ENCOURAGE WOMEN TO DO REGULAR PREGANCY TESTS, PAY FOR THEM, AND PAY FOR THE EMBRYO --- THE ANTI-S AND THE PRO'S SHOULD RAISE ONEY FOR THIS, INSTEAD OF THEIR ANNOYING ATTACK ADS...

WE COULD IMPROVE THE SCIENCE...

MANY PEOPLE GO OVERSEAS FOR ADOPTIONS; THERE ARE EXCESS DESIRED AND NOT ENOUGH KIDS HER...

MANYH PEOPLE SPOEND A FORTUNE ON IVF; THIS COULD BE AN ALTERNATIVE...

MANY OF THE SNOWFLAKE KIDS WERE FROZEN FOR YEARS AND YEARS AND YEARS...

MANY CHILDREN WAITNG FOR ADOPTION ARE NOT INFANTS/NEWBORNS.

THIS COUOLD WORK - BUT NOT IF PEOPLE POOPOO IT.

IT NEUTRALIZES THE POLITICAL ASPECT AND IS A REAL SOLUTION TO BOTH SIDES ISSUES:

A WOMAN HAS CHOICE ABOUT GOING TO TERM - BUT NOT KILLING THE FETUS.

ANTI-ABORTION AND PRO-CHOICE SIDES BOTH WIN, AS DOES THE BABY.

AS I SAID: IT'S A WIN-WIN-WIN.

my leftie troll - a dupe who believes that man made co2 is causing global warming - is NATCH in favor of abortion. and he poopoos the idea that medical science can improve extraction/freezing/donation.

killing babies is a good thing to lefties like him.

and bush is evil because he wants babies to be born.

upside down jerks, these lefties are.

there is no unsurmountable reason we couldn't get 99% of the aborted fetuses to be instead extracted and frozen and transplanted.

none.

those of us who truly value all life feel that we should explore all avenues to reduce the murder of unborn babies.

the left would rather not have anything or anyone interfere with their libertinage - whether it is abortion on demand as an alternative means of birth control or gay marriage.

or - in holland as of now - paedophilia.

my troll points to the fact that there have been relatively few snaowflake adotpion as proof of the unviability of my proposal.

in fact, this points to th need for it.

he is typical of the left: defending tyrants like saddam and abortion.

hating bush and israel.
