A great post in The Brussels Journal (a must-read blog for all TAB fans) by Soeren Kern on the cheeky behavior of Spanish Prime Minister José Zapatero during his recent visit to Mexico.

Spanish Prime Minister José Luis Rodríguez Zapatero deserves a special award for transatlantic chutzpah. During his recent visit to Mexico, he ended the state dinner held in his honor by toasting Mexican President Felipe Calderón with a sterling example of post-modern pontification for which Spanish leftists are so famous: “There is no wall that can obstruct the dream of a better life,” Zapatero proclaimed.

The “wall” that Zapatero is so worried about is, of course, the anti-illegal immigrant fence that, if everything goes as planned, will one day run along one-third of the 2,000 mile (3,200 km) border between Mexico and the United States… and not the twin razor wire-topped fences that separate the Spain’s north African enclaves of Ceuta and Melilla from those people in Morocco and the rest of Africa who have dreams of a better life in Spain.

WHY THE LEFT AIDS AND ABETS THE ENEMY

The ONLY countries to vote with Iran at the IAEA were Syria, Cuba and Venezuela - the last two are each run by Leftists, hardcore Marxists to be precise. Syria is Baathist, and Baathism is merely pan-Arabian/Islamic socialism.

NOW, ZAPATERO HAS DEFINITELY put Spain in the wrong side. With all Western countries publicly defending free speech and condemning the barbaric acts of violence after the publication of the Danish cartoons, Zapatero and Erdogan write an open letter that has been published in today's International Herald Tribune ... you won't find a single line of clear and specific condemnation for the death threats, embassy burnings, etc [in this letter]. There isn't any aknowledgement whatsoever of previous acts of violence in the name of Islam prior to the Danish cartoons, which is specially egregious considering Zapatero is the Prime Minister of a country where 192 people were killed in the name of Islam (at least apparently) almost 2 years ago. Way before any cartoon "provoked" any reaction.

There are many reasons why the Left supports the enemy. One is BDS. Another is their loathng of Western Civilization which they blame for the phantom of man-made global-warming, sexual repression and widespread societal sexual dysfunction - (see Marcuse), and the poverty of the Third World. Each of these assertions is demonstrably FALSE, yet these doesn't stop Leftists from BELIVING in them - there faith in Leftism enables them to suspend logic and ignore reality. The lack of falsifiability of most of their arguments doesn't phase them a bit. And they do this inspite of the very obvious fact that our enemy threatens them as muich as anybody. WHY DO THEY DO THIS!?

Yet this doesn't deter Leftists from maintaining a fervent belief in their creed. This obtuseness - this blatant DENIAL OF REALITY - is also what enables them to deny that Bush is actually doing exactly what FDR and Truman and JFK would've done in the same circumstances, and which if once DONE BY THEM, would've probably been met with MORE support from the Left.

WHY IS THIS!? Well, - and this is my second point - the Leftist creed valorizes the rule by an elite, and this has always made them susceptible to falling vitim to the "cult of personality" - and the "benevolent dictator syndrome": Lenin; Hitler (YES: HE WAS A SOCIALIST!); Stalin; Mao; Fidel; Che; Allende; Ho Chiu Minh; Pol Pot; Mugabe; Chavez, etc. The Left IDOLIZED EACH OF THESE TYRANTS. Their diathesis for worshipping tyrants also makes them prone to demonizing their foes. In this light, we see why the Left demonized Nixon and Reagan, and now Bush. What the left fails to understand is the extent to which Leftist tyrannies were defeated by the VALUES of these men (and not their personalities!); the victories of these men were fueled by their belief in liberty and freedom for all humanity, and their knowledge that properity is a by-product of this liberty, and their confidence that democracy is the most effective form of government to promote a free and properous nation.

These VALUES, and not merely the sheer force of our president's will, are what will propel us to our ultimate victory. A victory which will not only defeat the enemy, but finally consign Leftism to the dustbin of history - where it belongs!

SOCIALIST PRESIDENT OF SPAIN VOWS TO FIND WAY TO ARM SOCIALIST PRESIDENT OF VENEZUELA

The United States will not allow Spain to sell military aircraft with American technology to Venezuela, saying the sale would aid the increasingly "antidemocratic" government of President Hugo Chávez and would destabilize the region, the American Embassy announced Friday. The Spanish government, led by Prime Minister José Luis Rodríguez Zapatero, said it regretted the decision, but vowed to move forward with the deal after acquiring the necessary technology elsewhere.

In rejecting Spain's request, American officials said the sale amounted to support for an oppressive government that threatened to spread instability. "Despite being democratically elected, the government of President Hugo Chávez has systematically undermined democratic institutions, pressured and harassed independent media and the political opposition, and grown progressively more autocratic and antidemocratic," the embassy said in a statement.

Spain (unlike the USA, according to the Left), is led by a typical European: a more "enlightened," "progressive"; "humanist"; "better-educated"; "more realistic"; "more sophisticated" and "less hegmonistic" socialist Zapatero. Just like Russia, which is led by Putin. Together, these socialist appeasers are arming Hugo Chavez, the ranting and raving tyrannical and demagogic anti-Semite anti-globalist tyrant of Venezuela. The row in Spain follows international concern over Venezuelan plans to buy 100,000 AK-47 assault rifles from Russia. The US state department has accused Venezuela of starting an arms race and has suggested the rifles could end up in the hands of Colombia's left-wing Farc rebels.

Chavez is the Mugabe of South America. Those who arm him - pseudo-allies Russia and Spain - are also opposing us in other regions of the world. FORMER SPANISH PM SUGGESTS MUSLIMS SHOULD APOLOGIZE FOR CONQUERING SPAIN

The International Herald Tribune (via Kishkushim and Chazarah) has criticized Muslims for demanding an apology from the Pope for his own remarks about Islam:

MADRID, Spain Former prime minister Jose Maria Aznar has criticized Muslim demands for the pope to apologize for his remarks about Islam, suggesting it is unfair when the Islamic world has not asked forgiveness for such grievances as the 800-year Moorish occupation of Spain.

Aznar, speaking Friday night at the Hudson Institute, a thinktank in Washington, D.C., also said a United Nations program to encourage dialogue between Muslim and Western countries made no sense because some Muslim countries like Iran are too radical to deal with.

Aznar said some Muslim countries such as Iran are too radical to engage in dialogue with.

SPAIN "REPATRIATING" ILLEGAL ALIENS BY THE JET-LOAD

Spain's government has repatriated some 409 African migrants caught trying to reach its territory, the Interior Ministry said on Wednesday.

The ministry said so far this year it has organized some 123 flights [on state aircraft] carrying a total of 4,630 people back to their home countries, mainly Senegal and other Sub-Saharan countries. Another 3,000 immigrants have been repatriated on commercial flights.

The latest repatriations were to Morocco and Senegal on Tuesday and the government has warned that all illegal migrants detained on Spanish territory would be expelled.

As well as Chirac and Putin, the dinner's guests will include German Chancellor Gerhard Schroeder and Spanish Prime Minister Jose Luis Rodriguez Zapatero.

More than any other nations on the world, these four nations now enable and appease the enemy; here are a FEW of their RECENT perfidious acts:

(1) France refuses to allow the UN or the EU to officially recognize that Hizballah is a terrorists group (thereby allowing them to continmue to raise money in Europe), and France recently gave all of ONE soldier to help train Iraqis; (2) Spain recently withheld information about a possible terrorists attack against the USA - and Grand Central Terminal in NY - for 5 months; (3) before the Iraq War, Germany and France twisted Turkey's arm in order to get Turkey to refuse to allow the USA to use its Turkish bases in the war; this prevented the USA military from entering Iraq from the north, and may be WHY the neojihadists and Baathists who were north and east of Baghdad were able to "fade away" and regroup; in other words, because of France and Germany and Turkey, the "insurgents" were given a route of escape, and this lead directly to the strength and persistence of their attacks against Iraqis and the coalition for the last year; (4) Russia is currently arming Syria with missiles and Iran with dual-use nuclear technology, and they're NOT helping us with North Korea at all.

These four appeaserati - Chirac, Schroeder, Zapatero and Putin - are NOT ALLIES; they are truly an AXIS OF TREACHERY. Replacing these four appeaserati with pro-democracy/libertarian leaders is as important to our eventual success in WW4 as getting rid of Assad and Khatami and Kim Jong Il.

After the horrific ATOCHA bombing in Madrid - (which won the ANTI-AMERICAN socialists the election - JUST as AL QAEDA wanted!) - Zapatero - the newly elected socialist prime minister of Spain - had evidence that AL QAEDA was planning to attack the USA in NYC at Grand Central Station AND WITHHELD IT UNTIL AFTER THE USA ELECTION!

Zapatero probably withheld the info deliberately. Probably because he and his pinko cohorts hoped that an attack by AL QAEDA against the USA between March 2004 and the election in Novemeber would tip the Amercian election to the socialistic Kerry juist as Atocha had tipped the Spanish election to the anti-war pinkos in Spain.

Socialist scum. Like the wise man once said about the Left: "They are not anti-war; they're on the other side."

BUSH SQUANDERING HIS INTERNATIONAL POLITICAL CAPITAL

Bush made a great point - after his re-election - that his win gave him a big deposit of political capital and he was going to spend it boldly. He has already won a major change in class actions and he is taking on the "third rail" of American politics - Social Security.

Bush also got a huge deposit of more political capital from the Iraqi election - BUT HE SEEMS TO BE SQUANDERING IT!

Instead of using this capital to get concessions from the pinko appeasers of Old Europe, he is kow-towing to them and trying to "mend-fences." It's the kind of BIG MISTAKE I expected during the Powell Era, but not from Condi. I AM VERY DISAPPOINTED!

Chirac and Schroder and Zapatero and Putin should be ashamed of how they behaved during the Iraq Crisis, and now they should be BEGGING forgiveness - and asking if they can do more! Instead: Bush is letting them off the hook!

Now: Bush and Condi should be ashamed of themselves for lowering themselves down to their level!

Instead of sucking up to the pinko appeasers of Old Europe, Bush should be rewarding the brave allies who stood with us and liberty. But Bush is doing the OPPOSITE: he's rewarding the BUMS who were too cowardly and selfish to help their brothers and sisters in the USA and ther UK liberate their brothers and sisters in Iraq.

SURE: It's very magnanimous, but it'll only hurt us AGAIN down the road: by letting them off the hook, Bush is reinforcing their cynicism: the pinko appeasers of Old Europe will always just feel that they can always screw us without ever having to pay the price because we always forgive them!

Well I say: enough is enough. Let's quit NATO and remove our troops from Germany and Turkey. (We can negotiate bi-laterally to base them elsewhere - like Bulgaria and Romania and the Czech Republic.)

"Steve Forbes is going to hear this message from me. I will do nothing for him if he does to me what he did to Dole. Period. There is going to be a consequence. He is not dealing with the average, you know, 'Oh gosh, let's all get together after it's over.' I will promise you, I will not help him. I don't care."

I REPEAT: Bush should be as AT LEAST as tough with Chirac and Schroder and Putin and Zapatero as he CLAIMED he would have been with Forbes.

DISLOYALTY TO THE USA AND TO THE CAUSE OF UNIVERSAL HUMAN RIGHTS AND LIBERTY MUST HAVE CONSEQUENCES! Bush's pathetically obsequious trip sends EXACTLY THE WRONG MESSAGE! He is rewarding Putin and Chirac and Schroder. This will set us back YEARS in the GWOT...

The ONLY acceptable excuse is if Bush's PUBLIC PERFORMANCE is a ruse, and if we are in fact deeply - and surreptitiously - engaged in fomenting democratic revolutions in Lebanon and Iran and North Korea (and even Russia) - RIGHT NOW. As we should be.

Time will tell: if the Lebanese Orange Revolution - and the upcoming Lebanese election - fail to bring real change; if Mahmous Abbas fails; if Iraq becomes like Iran is now (instead of the reverse) - THEN BUSH WILL HAVE FAILED, AND IT WILL HAVE BEEN BECAUSE HE SQUANDERED THE POLITICAL CAPITAL HE GAINED IN THE IRAQI ELECTION.

Bush has squandered his political capital because he has chosen to be magnanimous instead of "going in for the kill" - which is VERY un-cowboy-like.

It's sort of like, well, it's sort of like if Bush was "Marshall Will Kane" (the Gary Cooper character in the classic Western, "HIGH NOON") - who - having just faced-down a gang of murderous outlaws ALL BY HIMSELF, and just as he's outdrawn the baddest badguy and the ringleader of the gang that was after him, suddenly turns his back to take a bow in front of the town that ABANDONED HIM and made him face the gang alone - and he gets shot in the back!

Which is why Gary Cooper didn't do it. And why George W. Bush shouldn't have. The pinko appeasers of Old Europe will shoot him in the back the first chance they can. Unless we get them first.

Sound too harsh? Too hawk-like and extreme? Not if you remember this simple dictum: the pinko appeasers are NOT anti-war; they're on the other side.

WW4 will not end until we have utterly defeated the enemy, and that cannot happen until we defeat THE AXIS OF EVIL, which means overthrowing Iran and Syria and North Korea.

That NOW means we must also defeat Putin - and his sycophants in Old Europe - the part of Europe we liberated in WW2, protected in the Cold War - (WW3), and that took our efforts for granted. We must defeat Russia and Old Europe because their selfish and short-sighted arms deals nuke deals strengthen our enemies: Iran and China (and even that thug Chavez in Venezuela), and thereby they hurt us (because these EU/Putin strengthened enemies will INEVITABLY cause us more casualties in the inevitable battles that lie ahead).

TRUE: The "spirit of magnanimity" is noble and fine; Bush and Rice are merely PREMATURELY MAGNANIMOUS. The time for sweet talk and magnanimity has not come yet; it can only come AT THE END OF WW4. And that's still a long way off.

(ASIDE: NEW EUROPE - that part of Europe we liberated from the USSR - is OKAY. Bush should have ONLY visited New Europe and Italy and Denmark, even Ukraine - the nations who stood by us in OUR time of need.)

This visit is typcial of Kerry: meeting with the enemy during a war! It comes on the heels of a meeting he had with Assad in Syria. Before that he was disparaging our efforts in Iraq - WHILE VISITING OUR TROOPS THERE!

Hey, maybe he'll make a nostalgic visit to the Paris hotel where he met with the Vietcong delegation - WHILE ON HIS HONEYMOON!?

What is it about people like Chirac and Kerry and Petain and Chamberlain that makes them think that all we have to do is be a little nicer to our enemies and they'll learn to love us!? Is it naivete? Greed? Are they a willful fifth column. Or are they just dupes? Or cowards?

UPDATE: Chirac could dodge trial if made senator-for-life (AFP) - Supporters of French President Jacques Chirac are pushing for a constitutional change that would make him a senator-for-life after he leaves office and thus shield him from the threat of future legal proceedings, newspapers reported Friday. The proposed measure would mean that all former presidents become automatic members of the upper house of parliament - instead of joining the constitutional council, France's highest judicial authority, which they do under the existing arrangement. Chirac, 72, cannot be prosecuted as long as he remains president, but when he steps down he risks being placed under judicial investigation in connection with a series of party-finance scams during his 18-year tenure as mayor of Paris.

CHIRAC'S PRO EU CONSTITUTION TV SHOW WAS A DUD

Desperate to avoid a humiliating personal and national defeat, Chirac went on TV - in an American style Town-meeting - to promote a "OUI" vote in the upcoming referendum on the EU constitution; (more in a previous post HERE).

Mr. Chirac's bold move - his first major effort on behalf of the constitution - occurred amid anxiety that next month's referendum will not pass. Opinion polls show increasing opposition to the document, led by many people who worry that a more powerful union will threaten French social benefits and lead to even higher unemployment, now riding at a five-year high of slightly more than 10 percent. [...]

According to a poll conducted for L'Express this week, 53 percent of French voters intended to vote no on the constitution compared to 47 percent who planned to vote yes. A poll for Le Figaro and for Europe 1 radio produced similar results. [...] Many commentators deplored what they said was a blurring of the line between staged propaganda and informed debate.

There was ample skepticism expressed by the audience. From the FT:

Asked by one voter why the unemployment rate was so much lower in the UK than in France, Mr Chirac replied that Britain had social rules that would not be "acceptable to us". Scrambling to reassert his authority, which has been badly damaged by the faltering start to the Yes campaign, the president said that France should be proud of its contribution to Europe and the spreading of civilised values around the world.

However, Mr Chirac's greatest political rival, Nicolas Sarkozy, the populist president of the ruling UMP party, yesterday contradicted the president's upbeat views by saying that the "French social model" was failing the people. In a speech in southern France, Mr Sarkozy said that with a 10 per cent unemployment rate France should stop saying its system worked better than that of others. "In 20 years both the left and the right have doubled the credits to combat unemployment but we have not produced one fewer unemployed person," he said.

People instinctively understand that creating and enabling another corrupt bureaucracy in Brussels will do NOTHING to improve their lives - like by lowering unemployment. That's why the polls have shown for week aftyer week for months now that 53% of France is adamantly opposed to the EU constitution.

Sarkozy (who supports the constitution) at least understands that France's socialist policies just simply do not work, and that they must be replaced with ones that do work, policies like those in the UK and the USA. If Sarkozy wins the next French presidential election in 2007 (and if this is followed by a rejection of the Socialist/Green coalition in Germany and of Zapatero's socialists in Spain), then there is real hope for continental Europe; (if it lasts that long under the onslaught of Islam, bad demographics, a collpasing welfare state, a failed constitution and the resulting weakened Euro. Between now and then the NEW POPE could have a major positive effect on morale in Western Europe - that is: IF the CofC picks the right one).

The failure of the EU constitution has MAJOR IMPLICATIONS - it will likely cause a precipitous drop in the Euro and put brakes on the momentum that has built up for a SOCIALIST-STYLE EU bureaucracy - both painful but necessary things. MORE HERE. The EU CONSTITUTION NEEDS to be STALLED until Germany and France and Spain - Old Europe - wean themselves off of socialism at home. Then and only then can an EU be effective. Old Europe may become much less socialist after the next round of elections, when socialists Zapatero, Schroeder get tossed ot of office and when Sarkozy takes over from Chirac in 2007.

PARIS (AFP) - Two new opinion polls indicated opposition in France to the European constitution has increased since an impassioned appeal by President Jacques Chirac to back the landmark treaty in a May referendum. The surveys were carried out the day after Chirac's high-stakes two-hour live television appearance late Thursday aimed at jumpstarting the flailing 'yes' campaign. One poll conducted by the CSA institute and which is to appear in Saturday's edition of Le Parisien/Aujourd'hui newspaper indicated 56 percent would vote 'no' in the May 29 referendum, while 44 percent would back the constitution. The figures compare to an earlier CSA poll, taken April 12 and 13, which showed 55 percent opposed the treaty and 45 were in favour. A second poll, released late Friday on the Internet site of Paris Match magazine, gave the 'nos' 56 percent and the 'yes' vote 44 percent. In an earlier survey for Paris Match, the IFOP polling institute had figures of 53 and 47 percent respectively.

The majority were Senegalese and were caught last week trying to enter the Canary Islands, according to Spain's interior ministry.

The government said all illegal immigrants would be expelled.

The Spanish Foreign Minister said on Friday that Spain, as the next European Union president, intends on working towards a Palestinian state in 2010.

Spanish Foreign Minister Miguel Angel Moratinos told a news briefing in Brussels on Friday that his country, which takes over the EU presidency for six months in January, would strive for quick talks.

"My idea and my dream ... is to work for having in 2010, finally, a Palestinian state that could live in peace and security with Israel," Moratinos said.

Just like the Soviet dissidents who resisted communism, those who dare to march through the streets of Tehran and stand up against the Islamic regime founded by the Ayatollah Khomeini 30 years ago represent the greatest hope for change in a country built on the repression of its people. At stake is nothing less than the legitimacy of a system incompatible with respect for individual rights. Also at stake is the survival of a theocratic regime that seeks to be the dominant power in the region, the indisputable spiritual leader of the Muslim world, and the enemy of the West.

The Islamic Republic that the ayatollahs have created is not just any power. To defend a strict interpretation of the Quran, Khomeini created the Pasdaran, the Revolutionary Guard, which today is a true army. To expand its ideology and influence Iran has not hesitated to create, sustain and use proxy terrorist groups like Hezbollah in Lebanon and Hamas in Gaza. And to impose its fundamentalist vision beyond its borders, Iran is working frantically to obtain nuclear weapons.

Those who protest against the blatant electoral fraud that handed victory to the fanatical Mahmoud Ahmadinejad are in reality demanding a change of regime. Thus, the regime has resorted to beating and shooting its citizens in a desperate attempt to squash the pro-democracy movement.

This is no time for hesitation on the part of the West. If, as part of an attempt to reach an agreement on the Iranian nuclear program, the leaders of democratic nations turn their backs on the dissidents they will be making a terrible mistake.
