A TALE OF TWO JFK'S: 1963 VERSUS 2006
Let the word go forth from this time and place, to friend and foe alike, that the torch has been passed to a new generation of Americans—born in this century, tempered by war, disciplined by a hard and bitter peace, proud of our ancient heritage—and unwilling to witness or permit the slow undoing of those human rights to which this Nation has always been committed, and to which we are committed today at home and around the world.Sounds like a damn NEOCON HAWK to me! Now, here's wannabe president JFK/2006:
Let every nation know, whether it wishes us well or ill, that we shall pay any price, bear any burden, meet any hardship, support any friend, oppose any foe, in order to assure the survival and the success of liberty. This much we pledge—and more.
"You know, education, if you make the most of it, you study hard, you do your homework and you make an effort to be smart, you can do well. If you don't, you get stuck in Iraq."These two quotes tell us everything we need to know about the sad state of the Democrat Party. The first guy was a hawk. The second guy sure sounds like someone disparaging US troops - something he's done before (1970, 2005); (in fact, Kerry's done it so much so I have to conclude it's at the core of his political career if not his inner being).
KERRY IS A DOVE AT HEART - ONE WHO IS SKEPTICAL ABOUT ANY USE OF US MILITARY POWER. The Democrat Party is the party of doves. If you want doves to lead the nation during war-time, then by all means vote Democrat. Or stay home.
Russia Says Iran's Nukes Are Peaceful
MOSCOW (Reuters) - Russia said on Tuesday it believed Iran's nuclear program was peaceful, and a political dialogue, not sanctions, must be used in talks with Tehran. "We do not have information that would suggest that Iran is carrying out a non-peaceful (nuclear) program," Russian Security Council Secretary Igor Ivanov told a news conference in Moscow.Russia believes it can play Iran against the United States. That will work. If we do not take care of the Iranian threat, it will weaken our position in the world. However, just as appeasers hope the crocodile will not eat them, so it is true for Russia. Iran will come back to bite them in the ass, you can be sure of it.
Iranian President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad told his Russian counterpart Vladimir Putin in a telephone conversation on Monday that talks over Iran's nuclear dispute were being hindered because the European side did not have enough authority.
"The most important problem in continuing Iran and Europe's negotiations (over the nuclear issue) is the European side's lack of enough authority (to take decisions)," an Iranian television report quoted Ahmadinejad as telling Putin.
In a statement on Monday, the Kremlin said Putin had told the Iranian leader that Moscow favored further talks. European states have prepared a draft sanctions resolution but Russia has voiced misgivings. "Sanctions should not be adopted for their own sake," Ivanov said.
Isn't it interesting that Russia is playing their hand in the exact same way as they did in the leadup to WWII? Remember what happened to them then? Ahmadinejad will turn on Russia just like Hitler did.
BUSH DIPLOMACY BRINGS NO KO BACK TO TABLE
Looks like President Bush and Ambassador Bolton have been doing the right thing. (Hat tip to Glenn Reynolds.)
METHINKS KERRY DOTH PROTEST TOO MUCH
Here's his defense: "It disgusts me that these Republican hacks, who have never worn the uniform of our country lie and distort so blatantly and carelessly about those who have… Bottom line, these Republicans want to debate straw men because they’re afraid to debate real men…"
Who's he kidding? First of all, you decide -- here's what he said:
“You know, education, if you make the most of it, if you study hard and you do your homework, and you make an effort to be smart, uh, you, you can do well. If you don’t, you get stuck in Iraq.”He was talking to college students, and advising them to study hard so that they would "do well" and not "get stuck in Iraq."
It makes no sense to claim in retrospect that he was characterizing President Bush someone who didn't do his homework and didn't make an effort to be smart, because President Bush went to the same college that Jean-Francois Kerry did (Yale) and made better grades than Jean-Francois Kerry did, and went on to the Harvard Business School (while Jean-Francois took a law degree from Boston College).
I don't buy it. In his remarks to college students in California, Senator Jean-Francois Kerry was slandering the brave volunteers who are defending our Country and the freedoms of the world.
He started his public career slandering American soldiers, to the appreciative murmurs of Democrats on a Senate Committee, and he has now ended his public career doing the same thing -- only this time, the American public is wiser to his sick game.
DETECTING LIES
...By peering directly into our brains, [these new machines] aim to set a new gold standard for the recognition of honesty in everyone from politicians to criminals to lovers.... In the pipeline are several cheaper, faster, easier-to-use brain-examining technologies, all intended as major improvements on the unreliable chicken-scratching polygraph we use now. Some seem to identify mental preparations for telling a lie even before the liar opens his mouth -- verging on mind-reading. Another is meant to work from across the room, even if you do not wish to cooperate....Several applications of this new technology have been discussed:
[T]he University of Pennsylvania has licensed the technology developed there -- on which it has applied for a patent -- to the California firm No Lie MRI Inc.... No Lie MRI's Web site has proclaimed that the company hopes to revolutionize truth telling in America, offering "objective, scientific, mental evidence, similar to the role in which DNA biological identification is used," to everyone from the FBI, CIA and NSA to the Department of Homeland Security....What voters really think of candidates and commercials? How about turning those lie detectors on the candidates themselves!
The boundless desire for a way to dig through deception is why political consultant John Zogby, president of Zogby International, expects the new brain scanning devices to be in widespread use in the 2008 presidential election. He can clearly see a demand to discover what voters really think of candidates -- and their commercials.
ELECTION 2006: GOP WINNING ALREADY
Down in the polls and with their majorities in Congress at risk, Republicans say they have some good news in early-voting statistics that suggest their voter-turnout machine is providing an edge in some tight races.WORST CASE SCENARIO: This, in-and-of-itself, probably doesn't give us the victory; it probably just balances out the Dem zombie vote! Heh.
If the trend holds, it could mean that early voting is growing -- and continuing to benefit Republicans, who exploited the practice in the 1990s. Experts say early voters could be a bigger factor this year when overall voter turnout could be lower than in 2004, a presidential-election year. ... Early voting has grown in the past 15 years, from around 2% of the national electorate participating to about 20% in 2004, said R. Doug Lewis, executive director of the Election Center in Houston, a nonprofit group. Experts predict this year that 19% to 25% of the electorate will vote early at the polls or by mail-in absentee ballots. That compares with about 14% in 2002, the most recent midterm election.
Republicans have had an advantage with early-voter turnout over Democrats because of better party funding and organization, according to Paul Gronke, director of the Early Voting Information Center at Reed College in Oregon, a state where traditional Election Day polling has been eliminated altogether in favor of voting by mail. "I suspect it will still be their advantage," he said.
Jean-Francois Kerry STILL Sliming the Heroes

Senator Jean-Francois Kerry (Dumb, Mass.) is STILL slandering the brave American soldiers, sailors, airmen, and Marines who are defending our lives and the world's freedom. And in the process, he is STILL revealing just how ignorant and stupid he really is. Listen to the audio on HOT AIR:"You know, education, if you make the most of it, if you study hard and you do your homework, and you make an effort to be smart, uh, you, you can do well. If you don’t, you get stuck in Iraq."The all-volunteer Armed Forces are the most educated and intelligent this country has EVER had. And yet Jean-Francois Kerry still characterizes military service -- the courageous and voluntary sacrifice of time, effort, blood, and sometimes life itself -- as a punishment for the uneducated and stupid.
He is the stupid one. When splashed on the front pages over 30 years ago, it was by maliciously and falsely accusing American soldiers of war crimes that rivaled Genghis Khan. He hasn't changed a bit. Any conservative who thinks that the interests of America will be served by returning Jean-Francois Kerry's party to power is stupid, too.
AL QAEDA IN DENMARK? Part III
The Dane arrested in Yemen was well aquainted with the accused in the Glostrup case... which involves links to a terror cell in Bosnia. This is definitely a international network. Two defendents in the Vollsmose case have been released from custody - though they still face charges, and the Danish police believe more suspects in the Vollsmose case are at large! No kidding. Stay tuned...
FIVE ISRAELI ARABS ARRESTED ON TERROR CHARGES
Five Israeli-Arabs were arrested Sunday in the Arab village of Um el-Fahm just hours after it was released for publication that a young Israeli-Arab woman was arrested for planning a bombing. The entire Wadi Ara region of north-central Israel, where Um el-Fahm is located, was placed on high alert Sunday due to intelligence information that a terror cell was hiding in the Israeli-Arab villages in the region. Heavy traffic resulted, as police set up checkpoints along major arteries and checked all vehicles leaving the villages.See what happens when you employ illegally? You get no gratitude, only more hate.
Another resident of Um el-Fahm, Ahmed Mohammed Mahmid, was arrested in recent weeks for burning vehicles belonging to local Arab residents he suspected of assisting Israeli security forces. Mahmid confessed to the crimes, but claimed the vandalism was not driven by ideological motives, but because he blamed the owners of the cars for the death of his friend.
The Um El-Fahm arrests were announced the same day that Yisrael Beiteinu joined the government coalition. The party's chairman, MK Avigdor Lieberman, has called for the revocation of the citizenship of Israeli-Arabs in Wadi Ara and and the transfer of control of those villages to the PA. In exchange, Israel would annex Jewish populated areas in Judea and Samaria.
It was released on Sunday for publication that a 20-year-old Israeli-Arab female terrorist was arrested before she could place a bomb in a Raanana restaurant. She had been working in an Israeli supermarket in a Jewish neighborhood and her cousin, who was from PA-controlled Shechem (Nablus), had in the past been employed illegally at the very restaurant they sought to bomb.

UN: SYRIA VIOLATES ARMS EMBARGO
Lebanon regularly reports arms being smuggling into the country from Syria but the authorities are treading softly due to their fragile political situation, a senior U.N. envoy said on Monday. Government officials have informed the United Nations of smuggling as recently as "the last few weeks," although they are providing no information on the quantities or types of arms being secreted across the border, said Terje Roed-Larsen, the top U.N. diplomat on Lebanese ties with Syria.Okay. Hizballah and Syria are violating the terms of the truce. Now, what the eff are we gonna do about it!? Are we gonna sit here and just watch it like we watched the Noko's and the Iranians?! The time for action is NOW. 10/31/06 UPDATE: 18 hours later and LGF is on the story - with lottsa links.
MOHUMMED DON'T SURF!
MORE PROOF FRANCE IS DYING
...this year's Femina prize winner was yesterday announced as the Canadian writer Nancy Huston, for her family saga Lignes de faille, or Fault Lines. Huston, who has lived in Paris for 20 years, is an Anglophone Canadian who writes in both English and French. She is the second winner of north American origin to win a major French literary prize in a week, after Jonathan Littell, an American first-time novelist won the Académie Française prize for his 900-page fictional memoir of a murderous Nazi SS colonel, Les Bienveillantes, or The Kindly Ones. He is also favourite for the prix Goncourt award to be announced next week.Well I guess this means that the French aren't producing any writers of note, anymore. Add this to the fact that they aren't producing enough French babies to maintain the population - let alone support their welfare state, and the two-year long intifada (they seem unable to quell), and things look real REAL bad for France. I have two words for them: A bientot. I mean ADIEU!
EVEN MORE PROOF THAT ISRAEL WON
As I said at the time: Israel - though prevented from delivering a knockout punch - nevertheless won.[WashPost:] "The war erased a threat we lived with for years," Greenberg said. "We aren't afraid of snipers or kidnappings anymore. We can breathe." ... The sentiment is echoed in other small farming communities where Israelis have for decades lived with occasional barrages, infiltrations and Israeli army invasions and withdrawals. ...[Prairie Pundit:] There is more. The Hezballah flags are gone and the Israelis can loft their flag without being in the cross hairs. This may be the most significant evidence yet of the scope of Hezballah's defeat in Lebanon.
DOCUMENTS FROM SADDAM'S IRAQ PROVE JIHADOTERRORIST-SADDAM NEXUS BEFORE THE WAR
A new document translated by Joseph Shahda indicates that the Saddam Hussein regime agreed to allow the Popular Front for the Liberation of Palestine (PFLP) to stage suicide operations within Iraq in the opening days of the American invasion. Document CMPC-2003-015588 is a handwritten memo from the Foreign Ministry's Arabic Department recounting the meeting between PFLP officials and representatives of the Iraqi government. It also makes a reference to a neighboring country as having given permission for the PFLP to make these arrangements. ...He has translations of the captured documents which PROVE this connection. They prove that Iran, Syria and their Palestinian jihadoterrorist proxies were ALLIED to Saddam before the war. These documents disprove the Leftist/MSM/Democrat notion/propaganda that our invasion caused this alliance to occur, and therefore made things worse. Those who argue this are promulgating nothing more than lies and disinformation - lies which dispirit and demoralize our side and thereby help the enemy.
Saddam didn't keep terrorists out of Iraq; in this case, he has a good enough relationship with the PFLP and through them Hamas and Islamic Jihad to call on them for action on his behalf. Supposedly these groups only have Palestinian interests in mind, but here they seem anxious to help rescue a secular Iraqi dictator. Saddam had plenty of connections to terrorists in the region ...
The Left has been arguing for a year that the war has made things worse. This news proves that the war was NOT a mistake; that taking down Saddam took down an important nexus of jihadoterror - and thereby did make us safer. Iraq is still a battle-zone because the jihadoterrorists haven't given up yet: they continue to attack us and to attack Iraqis in an attempt to unseat Iraq's democracy and establish a jihadoterrorist suppoprting state - like Iran and Syria and Gaza. The Democrats will let them do this. A vote for them is a vote for Binladen.
Despite Holding Peace Talks With Taliban Pakistan Bombs Madrassa Killing 80 Militants
At least 80 militants have been killed in an air strike by Pakistani forces on a madrassa (religious school) used as a militant training camp, the army says. The army said the madrassa in the tribal area of Bajaur bordering Afghanistan was destroyed by helicopter gunships early on Monday.
One eyewitness told the BBC that 70-80 students were inside. A leading local politician says the dead were innocent. Pakistan has deployed nearly 80,000 troops along the border. They are there to hunt militants who sought refuge in the rugged tribal terrain after the ousting of the Taleban in Afghanistan in late 2001. President Pervez Musharraf has pledged to reform madrassas after many were criticised for supporting Islamic militancy.
The leader of the madrassa, radical cleric Maulana Liaqat, was among the dead. He was a prominent member of a group of pro-Taleban tribal clerics, the BBC's Rahimullah Yusufzai in Peshawar says. "We received confirmed intelligence reports that 70-80 militants were hiding in a madrassa used as a terrorist training facility, which was destroyed by an army strike, led by helicopters," army spokesman Maj Gen Shaukat Sultan told the Associated Press news agency. The BBC's Barbara Plett in Islamabad says Monday morning's attack coincides with peace talks between tribal elders and pro-Taleban militants in Bajaur. The government had already released prisoners in anticipation of a deal, possibly along the lines of an agreement signed in the neighbouring tribal region of North Waziristan, our correspondent says. But the army says peace talks would not be allowed to serve as a cover for militant activity.

OAXACA RIOTS: AMERICAN JOURNALIST KILLED
OAXACA, Mexico -- Mexico sent federal riot police to the southern tourist city of Oaxaca yesterday after gunmen killed three persons, including an American journalist, in the latest violence sparked by protests to oust a state governor. Hundreds of federal police arrived in five planes yesterday morning, a Reuters photographer said. Isolated gunshots were heard in the city, famous for its colonial architecture, cuisine and indigenous crafts.
Three persons, including U.S. independent journalist Brad Will, were fatally shot Friday when men in civilian clothes opened fire on the protesters. A Mexican newspaper gave the names of the attackers and said they were local police. About a dozen people, mostly protesters, have been killed since the conflict began five months ago, when striking teachers and leftist activists occupied much of the city, chasing out police and blocking streets in an effort to oust Oaxaca state Gov. Ulises Ruiz. The crisis has escalated with frequent drive-by shootings on protester barricades.
Critics accuse the governor of corruption and repressive tactics against dissenters, whose hundreds of roadblocks have driven foreign tourists from the city and hurt business. Mexican President Vicente Fox's office declined to say if the federal police would try to take control of Oaxaca or look to negotiate a presence in the city. It is unusual for federal forces to be sent to conflicts in Mexican states, which are the jurisdiction of local police.
Fox is outgoing, and won't be missed, I'm sure, but the sad thing is that incoming president Felipe Calderon may not be much better. From what I know, wages for work in Mexico are very little, and if Calderon doesn't make any attempt to raise them, the problems will continue.
Reliapundit adds: Industry and competition raise wages effectively, not the State - and Calderon is NOT a socialist, so I hope he doesn't interfere with the marketplace. However, Mexico is so very socialist - like France - a good move to the right will still leave them on the Left. And Left behind: ALL the nations which have lifted themselves out of poverty in the last two decades have done so by decreasing socialism and increasing freedom in the marketplace: Ireland; India; China; eastern Europe; Chile; etc. Mexico need lower taxes and less socialism if they want to improve their econopmy and reduce poverty. (They might start by privatizing Pemex and the oil industry.) And NOT by allowing Leftist rebels takeover their cities and states. HERE'S ANOTRHER REASON THE LEFT MUST BE SQUASHED IN MEXICO: The Left in Mexico may very well be ripe for collaboration with jihadoterrorists - as the Left already is in Venezuela.

Israelis Put Nuclear Bunkers In Their Gardens
In April of 2003, I formed an organization called the Christians United Against the New Anti-Semitism (CUANAS). Our purpose, initially, was to inform Pastors of the rising tide of anti-Semitism in our post-9/11 world. The first plan of action was to meet with Pastors and inform them events which depicted the new Jew-hatred. Our words fell on something akin to deaf ears. Yes, we were told, they could see that there is a problem with anti-Semitism. However, it is tangled up in the politics of the Middle East, and, as Pastors of churches, they did not feel it was their place to speak out on political issues. Ah, right. So, three years later, I must say, I hope my words are burning in their brains, because now we have a Hitlerian madman running a nation (Iran) which is about to complete the process of creating its first nuclear weapon, and, at the same time, he is threatening to "wipe Israel off the map." That would be 5 1/2 million Jews dead. Sounds a bit like the first Holocaust, doesn't it? And yet, the Christian church refuses to speak out on the issue.
If Ahmadinejad accomplishes what he promises to do, the track record of the Christian church will be even worse than it was with regard to the first Holocaust. Congratulations, my fellow Christians. You really are sheep, aren't you?
Meanwhile, the Jews of Israel are taking the words of the Iranian President seriously, as they must. They are building elaborate nuclear bunkers in their backyards:
AMID mounting fears that Iran is planning to obliterate their country, wealthy Israelis are shelling out on underground nuclear shelters in the gardens of their luxury homes. Firms specialising in the manufacture of such shelters are booming. Ahim Torati is a company producing parts for atomic shelters. “We supply components for decontaminated air, fortified doors and walls,” said Menahem Torati, its owner. “If in a regular shelter the door should withstand a five-ton blast, the door of an atomic shelter should absorb 250-270 tons.”
Seeking to allay public fears, the government insists that the population has little to fear. “We are aware of all these panicky people building atomic shelters. They’re wasting their money,” said a security source. “Israel will not allow Iran to build an atomic bomb, and even if it did, the Iranians know very well that we’ll bomb them back to the Stone Age before they’ve launched a single missile.”
However, the government is quietly updating its preparations for a possible nuclear strike. Ephraim Sneh, the deputy defence minister, confirmed that a £300m nuclear shelter is being constructed in the Jerusalem hills for the Israeli war cabinet. “This will be a command and control centre that will be able to run the state of Israel during a war, even after a nuclear strike,” he said.
It might really come to this. WHY? Well, in the first Gulf War, the presidents of the USA and Israel decided in advance that Israel wouldn't retaliate if hit by Saddam's SCUD missiles. I guess that the decision is similar today. The non-Jewish world expects Israel to absorb at least one nuke before striking back; IOW: the world will not accept an Israeli pre-emptive strike. So either the USA and its allies destroy Iran's nuke assets first, or Israel gets nuked. And then the Muslim world does. Based on how things are going now, I think there is a better than 50-50 chance this will happen in the next 7 years.
WHO SUGGESTED WE "NEUTRALIZE" AL SADR FIRST - PETERS, KELLY, OR RELIAPUNDIT?

ZOMBIE-CRATS AND THE CULTURE OF CORRUPTION
A new statewide database of registered voters contains as many as 77,000 dead people on its rolls, and as many as 2,600 of them have cast votes from the grave, according to a Poughkeepsie Journal computer-assisted analysis. This is s type of voter fraud we have seen all over the country, WHEREVER THE DEMOCRAT PARTY IS IN CONTROL. Gateway has an item re: MO, and a compendium. (Here's an item regarding TN.) (Here's another about NJ.)
The Journal's analysis of New York's 3-month-old database is the first to determine the potential for errors and fraud in voting. It matched names, dates of birth and ZIP codes in the state's database of 11.7 million voter registration records against the same information in the Social Security Administration's "Death Master File." That database has 77 million records of deaths dating back to 1937. ... Among the Journal's findings:
[*******] - There were dead people on the voter rolls in all of New York's 62 counties and people in as many as 45 counties who had votes recorded after they had died.
[*******] - One Bronx address was listed as the home for as many as 191 registered voters who had died. The address is 5901 Palisade Ave., in Riverdale, site of the Hebrew Home for the Aged.
[*******] - Democrats who cast votes after they died outnumbered Republicans by more than 4 to 1.
This speaks volumes about the Democrat Party: they've become nothing more than a corrupt bunch of Left-wing, jihadist-appeasing, atheistic fraud-loving crooks.
2006: REVENGE OF THE MODERATES? And what it means for '08...
If this is indeed the trend, will it effect 2008? Maybe. Maybe it will strengthen the fundraising efforts of candiates who will run as centrists: McCain & Giuliani in the GOP, and Richardson & in the Democrat Party.
These races prove that the defintion of moderate is very fluid: one can be a hawk in the GWOT and a libertarian on social issues (like Rudy & Lieberman), or a conservative on social issues and a fiscal hawk - like Casey. There is NO consistent "moderate" position in US politics, and this means that those who try to be seen as moderate to independent voters have no clear "NORTH STAR" to guide them.
This also proves that establishing oneself as a moderate is MORE about TRIANGULATION than having a consistent ideology. Which means that being PERCEIVED as a "moderate" depends largely on WHO ONE IS RUNNING AGAINST - which no one can control. Another interesting fact: the GOP moderates are not very hawkish, and if they win - which now seems VERY possible - then pressure on Bush to get more visible results in Iraq and Afghanistan will increase. And this makes it less likely that the GOP will nominate someone as hawkish as him in 2008.
I think we need a POTUS who is MORE hawkish than Bush. And someone who articulates positions based on a political philosphy, and not triangulation. I don't know which potential candidate best embodies this, right now. Maybe Romney - if he proves to be a real hawk. Maybe Rudy. We'll see...
HOW THE ENEMY CELEBRATES HOLIDAYS - and its implications...
I think these attacks speak VOLUMES about the true nature of these enemies: they are EVIL and ruthless people who celebrate death, if not genocide. They have NO REGARD for the transcendent, humanitarian aspect of ANY holiday -- NOT OURS; NOT THEIR OWN. In fact, the only thing they truly CELEBRATE IS DEATH. People like this cannot be reasoned with or negotiated with, or appeased. They must be utterly vanquished.
FDR and Truman - two liberal Democrats - understood this, and acted accordingly. Unfortunately, it seems that today's liberal Democrats no longer have what it takes. They are weak-kneed, and feel that if we appease the enemy they will leave us alone.
Binladen and his ilk are counting on these weak-kneed appeasers getting control of Congress. These Left-wing Democrats have publicly avowed to cut off financial support for our counter-offensivces in Afghanistan, Iraq, and will get "tougher" with Israel and easier on Hamas and Hizballah. That's why if the Democrats win, then Binladen wins. A vote for ANY Democrat is a vote for Binladen. I say this as a person who has been a registered Democrat since 1974.

There's more to life than war, taxes and politics - and a lot of it's more fun, too! That's why every WEEKEND, here at THE ASTUTE BLOGGERS, we post our opinions on some of the cultural things we're into, things we think you might also find entertaining, enriching, and stimulating. Good for "Rest & Relaxation" - "R&R".Always On Watch: READING
Please check it out every week - and tell your friends. We just might turn you on to something cool. After all, the arts - ALL ARTS, not just fine arts - are a big part of what our liberty is for, and what we're fighting to defend!
Sometimes my grading of students' compositions actually qualifies as R&R, especially when the course I'm teaching is Creative Writing. This year's first creative-writing assignment was "A Further Adventure of Tom Sawyer” based, of course, upon Mark Twain's timeless novel The Adventures of Tom Sawyer. With a minimum of instruction from me, all the students in the class were off and running. I got the best batch ever of first-assignments, and even my one slacker submitted a story! Students actually begged to read their stories to the class.
Such moments make me love what I do for a living. Once students' rewrites are completed, I'll be posting a few of their stories at my blog.

Popinjay: READING:
Been re-reading some George Orwell this week. Lots of people like to use the term "Orwellian" but really don't understand what it means. Unless you've read his works (or you're Christopher Hitchens) you need to temper your use of the term. For someone that never saw Stalinist Russia, he had a complete understanding of what thought-control was all about. Other than his master works "1984" and "Animal Farm", I strongly suggest reading "Down and Out in Paris and London" - it's an excellent book that puts living hand-to-mouth in some perspective. Just a great writer. I wish he could have lived a little longer and seen what an impact he made on Western society.
(Relipundit adds: I also never tire of re-reading Orwell, and I especially recommend Homage to Catalonia - (which relates Orwell's experiences in the Spanish Civil War, the experiences which awakened in him both fear and loathing and a keen understanding of totalitarianist ideologies of all stripes), and Keep the Aspidystra Flying, and Coming Up for Air. These last two are sentimental, nostalgic and self-deprecating tales of the mundane, told in the warmest possible way; IOW: Orwell's humanity shines as much as his cold logic and brilliant intellect. Read'em.)

PARIS INTIFADA SPREADS TO MARSEILLE
Many claimed Marseille was, (for a bunch of reasons), more integrated, and that the fact that French-"African" Muslims in Marseille felt like a part of the city made them unlikely to ever riot the way "disenfranchised" Muslims were rioting all over the rest of France. NO MORE; ("Reuters"/WASPOST):
A woman in the southern city of Marseille suffered severe burns when vandals set fire to a bus she was traveling on, a police source said on Saturday. ... The police source said an unknown number of people forced their way on to the bus in Marseille at about 9.00 p.m. (1900 GMT) and set fire to it before a 26-year-old woman could escape. "The woman's life is in danger," the source said. Three other people needed treatment for smoke inhalation.Perhaps the French Pundits - and other apologists for and appeasers of global jihad - should come up with another explanatory device, one other than "lack of adequate 'integration' and disenfranchisement". Perhaps it's time they admitted that the Muslims who riot have a PROACTIVE AGENDA, one which is above and beyond anything France - or the rest of the West - has done or has not done TO the Muslims.
Perhaps what the rioting Muslims are REALLY doing in France, is exactly what they're doing in Thailand and Sweden, in Iraq and in Afghanistan, in Turkey and Spain and Gaza and London (and in a thousand other places all over the globe): intimidate us until we turn into dhimmis and until they re-establish a tyrannical 12th Century Caliphate.
If they are torching buses in Marseille, then this means that appeasement and apologies and social outreach [like building memorials to islamothugs in Paris - an updated link] can't possibly work. The only effective counter-measure is force: The enemy must be utterly defeated - SMASHED, killed, incarcerated and made to accept unconditional defeat. As any enemy in any war. Half-measures only invite more attacks, and give the enemy time to make them worse. ... That's why the wise man says: FASTER PLEASE!
BTW/UPDATE: LGF is running a post on this now - as is NO PASARAN. Two GRRREAT blogs, but I mention it because on this story - as with so many others, (like the Solana story below), YOU READ IT HERE FIRST - AND WITH BETTER ANALYSIS/COMMENTARY! UPDATE #2: WELCOME READERS OF THE MODERATE VOICE.
CAIR: NO COMMENT?
Today on Fox News Channel, there was some discussion of the documentary Obsession: Radical Islam's War Against The West, recently released on DVD. The moderator of the discussion stated that CAIR had been invited to participate in the discussion, but had declined. Now, why is that? One would think that such a discussion on cable news would be an excellent opportunity for CAIR (1) to debunk the film and (2) to issue a call for moderate Muslims to speak out against Islamic radicals.
A recently released twelve-minute version is available for online viewing HERE.
Better yet. Buy the DVD and watch the entire documentary.
A Chill Wind Blows: Dixie Chicks Violate NBC's Rights

Yesterday, the big news was that NBC has banned ads for the new Dixie Chicks movie:The NBC television network is reportedly refusing to air ads promoting Shut Up and Sing, a new documentary about censorship of the Dixie Chicks. NBC has reportedly said it will not accept the ads because they are “disparaging to President Bush.” Ralph G. Neas, president of the nonpartisan People For the American Way, which advocates free speech, strongly criticized the reported NBC decision. “If these reports are true, it would be astonishing for NBC to censor criticism of President Bush less than two weeks before the election,” Neas said. “This is a film about censorship, and now it sounds as though it’s being censored.”
While the Weinstein Co. had shown NBC its ads, it had not inquired about buying commercial time, he said. Generally, when an ad is rejected, prospective advertisers return and work with the network on ways to make it acceptable — as was done with the Michael Moore film "Fahrenheit 9/11," he said.
But NBC heard nothing more from makers of "Shut Up & Sing" until portions of what NBC executives thought were confidential business correspondence showed up in a news release, he said. "There was no attempt to come back and have a conversation," Wurtzel said. "There are times when some advertisers get more publicity for having their ad rejected."The CW said a Weinstein representative discussed the ad with a low-level network official who questioned whether the network had the right programming to fit the ad. "It was the beginning of a dialogue at a low level and it didn't get beyond that when they decided to go to the media about it," network spokesman Paul McGuire said.
The CW would accept the ad if commercial time was bought, he said.
A gay rights campaigner has accused an Imam of saying the execution of gay Muslims to stop the spread of disease is "for the common good of man". Dr John Casson visited Arshad Misbahi, the Imam at Manchester Central Mosque, to discuss concerns over the execution of homosexual Muslims in Iran. Dr Casson said the comments were made in a private meeting but he wrote them down afterwards. The Imam did not deny the comments but said he had been misinterpreted. Mr Misbahi said he was only talking about the Islamic perspective on homosexuality ...

THAI JUNTA PROMISES MORE APPEASEMENT AS JIHADISTS MURDER THAI SOLDIER
"... drop some charges against 58 Muslims involved in a 2004 protest in the restive far south that led to 78 Muslims dying in army custody, Defence Minister Boonrawd Somtat said on Friday. The move would be a major gesture [APPEASEMENT] by the mainly Buddhist administration [NOW LED BY A MUSLIM GENERAL] in Bangkok to the Muslim majority in the three southernmost provinces, where more than 1,700 people have been killed [MOSTLY BUDDHISTS MURDERED BY MUSLIMS] in nearly three years of separatist violence [JIHAD]. It would also signal a break with the "iron fist" policy of ousted Prime Minister Thaksin Shinawatra, who refused to censure army, police or government officials after the incident in the town of Tak Bai.
A soldier was shot dead by suspected insurgents Friday while patrolling a busy morning market in southern Thailand's restive Muslim-majority provinces, police said. The militants stole his M16 semiautomatic rifle before fleeing the market in Pattani, one of three provinces hit by a nearly three-year insurgency that has left more than 1,500 dead.Time and time again, history has proven that appeasement only emboldens the enemy. This news from Thailand is simply MORE proof. This enemy cannot be appeased or contained. They must be attacked and defeated. Utterly. And everywhere: Gaza; Anbar; Khandahar; Pattani; Darfur; and in Gothenberg and London and Paris. If governments - from France to Iraq, and from Afghanistan to Thailand - won't combat the jihadists, then soon - and more and more - the people will do whatever they feel they have to to defend themselves... but by then, it might be too late.
BIRDS OF A FEATHER - PART 24: EURO-LEFTISTS AGAIN ENDORSE SYRIAN TRYANNY
European Deputy and Representative of the Greek Communist Party, Thneis Paphilis has expressed solidarity with Syria and the peoples of the Middle East who are being exposed to the American pressures. This commie says "American pressure as if it was something bad. Well, er um... American pressure liberated Greece and Europe from Nazism and Communism, er um... Soviet hegemony. So.... WHY DO LEFISTS HATE AMERICA AND LOVE JIHADOTHUGS!? Easy: all utopianist/statist ideologues have an affinity to each other and hate movements which promote individual liberty and individual accountability.
[Ain't it quaint that there're still some Lefties around who are honest enough to proudly call themselves communists?! Most Lefties like to hide behind terms like "progressive," but we what they're really all about as soon as they start saying how they want to tax us for "the common good"...]
STEELE COULD BE KEY TO ELECTION
I mentioned on my website yesterday that the Senate race in Maryland between Democrat Ben Cardin and Republican Michael Steele could be the whole election. The race is basically tied in a state where Democrats outnumber Republicans 2-to-1. Steele has put up with Chuck Schumer's staff digging into his credit history, having oreo cookies thrown at him and all the other slings and arrows that come with being a black Republican. Now we're 12 days away from the election and people are starting to pay attention. Steele has looked impressive in the debates and stood up to Cardin and Michael J. Fox on the issue of stem-cell research. The national GOP needs to kick it into gear and start knocking on some doors, holding some rallies and doing whatever they can to boost Steele in this race. If he is able to pull this one out, it'll be a GOP pickup in the Senate and make a Democratic takeover near impossible. The tide is turning, folks. [UPDATE: Power Line agrees with The Popinjay - and has news from a major election analyst to back it up.]
CAIR AND ELECTION CAMPAIGNS
Among the states mentioned in the article are Ohio, California, Minnesota, Georgia, Virginia, and Florida. Read the entire article here."...[F]or officials of the Council on American-Islamic Relations (CAIR) – the most visible group claiming to represent Muslims in America – their political loyalties appear to lean in one particular political direction. An extensive review of political contributions by CAIR officials, employees and board members on the local, state and national level reveals that CAIR is betting almost exclusively on Democrats to represent them politically on Capitol Hill during the upcoming 110th Congress....
"[A]t present CAIR officials are content to liberally spread their campaign contributions to Democrats, apparently on the gamble that they will take one, if not both, chambers of Congress....With Democrats in control, CAIR is betting that they will be better represented on Capitol Hill in their self-proclaimed goal of eventual Islamic domination for America. Maybe that is something that citizens should keep in mind on November 7th as they go to the polls and vote."
WHY ISRAELIS AREN'T TAKING TO THE STREETS
I do not understand, for the life of me, the lack of will in the Israeli people. I can not understand why they are not taking to the streets and storming the Knesset. How have they not overthrown that political hack Olmert and his motley crew? They are selling Israel down the river. Iran is a hair's breath away from going nuclear and these dangerous schmucks are circle jerking to a "peace" process. Iran has been plotting Israel's demise for decades. And Abu Dana has UNIFIL guranteeing Israel's security? How many Jews have to die?Israelis' lack of will comes from a number of factors: Continue reading here....
EU FOREIGN POLICY CHIEF DEFENDS HAMAS

Hamas wants to "liberate the Palestinians," not to destroy Israel, Javier Solana, the European Union's foreign policy chief, told The Jerusalem Post on Thursday.... [In an interview following his talks in Tel Aviv with Foreign Minister Tzipi Livni.]Obviously, this schmuck is in deep denial - he doesn't even acknowledge that Hamas and Hizballah are self-described jihadist organizations whose plainly stated goal is the destruction of Israel:
Pressed as to whether he was underestimating the fundamentalist religious imperative at the heart of the Hamas ideology, Solana said, "I cannot imagine that the religious imperative, the real religious imperative, can make anybody destroy another country... Therefore that is an abuse of religion...
"I don't think the essence of Hamas is the destruction of Israel. The essence of Hamas is the liberation of the Palestinians," he added. "The liberation of their people, not the destruction of Israel."
"I never thought the construction of the security wall was a good idea."When it was suggested to him that the security barrier had saved hundreds of lives, he said, "I think there were other ways to do it. In any case, the wall should have been constructed on the line of '67."
Quoting former US secretary of state James Baker, he added, "To talk to your enemy is not appeasement."YES... ON THIS HE IS RIGHT... AND THAT'S WHY LIVNI TALKED TO HIM.

MORE PROOF THAT SOCIALIZED MEDICINE SUCKS - FROM ITALY
Italian opposition politicians yesterday demanded a full inquiry into claims that up to 50,000 people a year die in Italy's hospitals because of medical error. A report presented to a congress organised by the Italian Association of Medical Oncology concluded that even the most conservative estimate pointed to a figure of 14,000 deaths a year, which is twice the death toll on Italy's roads.IOW: It's more dangerous to go to a hospital in Italy than to drive on it's roads. Think about it. Do you want that kind of healthcare here!? I don't.
PENTAGON COUNTER-ATTACKS AGAINST THE FOURTH ESTATE / FIFTH COLUMN
MALIKI : IRAQ :: ABBAS : GAZA

IOW: IF WE WANT TO QUELL CIVIL STRIFE INSIDE IRAQ, AND INSIDE GAZA AND THE WEST BANK, THEN WE SHOULD TAKE DIRECT AND INDEPENDENT ACTIONS AGAINST SYRIA AND IRAN.
More HERE on Maliki's weakness. More on ANOTHER DIRECT ACTION WE SHOULD TAKE, here.
ElBARADEI NOW WANTS TO SOLVE THE 'PALESTINIAN QUESTION'
There was a blueprint in the mid-90's for a 'solution' to the Israeli-'Palestinian' conflict and it was called the 'Oslo accords.' I didn't like it much, because I felt that we were giving up way too much for way too little. The reason it failed was not because Israel was not willing to give up enough, but because the 'Palestinians' true goal
There is nothing there to be resolved through 'dialogue' about a 'blueprint.' We've tried that and it failed. All 'dialogue' will bring us now is what it has brought the world community in the cases of North Korea and Iran: another weapons build-up, more war and more bloodshed. Continue reading....
INTIFADA CONTINUES IN PARISTANBUL
THE PEN IS MIGHTIER THAN THE SWORD
Well, I suppose you have to draw the line somewhere: we wouldn't want a new religious sect carrying AK-47's around the streets, now would we? (I think we have already seen this sect in Baghdad!)
I don't know who the state feels they're protecting by separating a Sikh from his kirpan - his sword, when clearly there are more dangerous rabble rousers on the loose, "armed" with just words - the Koran. I guess attacking the core problem is still too un-PC.
Meanwhile, a leading Muslim expert in Islamic thought - who is in fact the highest ranking Muslim cleric in Australia - doesn't blame knives or guns when this type of violence is directed against women; he doesn't even blame the perpetrators; he blames the female victims. Sheesh.

MITT ROMNEY PUTS IT ALL IN PERSPECTIVE
Massachusetts Governor (and presidential candidate) Mitt Romney had the line of the year the other day at one of his press conferences. A reporter was asking a very long winded question about tolls on the Massachusetts Turnpike which was filled with Democrat Party talking-points. Romney finally asked sarcastically, but with good humor, if the reporter had a point of view. The reporter replied that he just represented the people. "No," Romney shot back, "I represent the people, you represent the media." Video here. And that really says it all, doesn't it. The media is supposed to represent the people, but it doesn't. It may have once - in its infancy, but no longer. Now it exists only to help liberals and socialists amass power. I know I've said it a number of times, but it's worth repeating: This election is going to be a big, big test to see just how much power the MSM/Driveby Media still has. If the Republicans hold on to the House and Senate, it won't just be the Democrat Party that loses, but also the MSM, (which has worked tirelessly for years to convince the public that Iraq is a lost cause, the economy is terrible, gas prices are a plot, all Republicans are racists, and on and on and on).
Don't let them get away with it.
Former Iranian Leader Wanted For Murder In Argentina
Europe has trouble understanding the connection between Iran and Hizbollah. Argentina has no such trouble:Argentine prosecutors asked a federal judge on Wednesday to order the arrest of former Iranian President Hashemi Rafsanjani and seven others for the 1994 bombing of a Jewish cultural center that killed scores of people. The decision to attack the center ''was undertaken in 1993 by the highest authorities of the then-government of Iran,'' prosecutor Alberto Nisman said at a news conference. He said the actual attack was entrusted to the Lebanon-based group Hezbollah. The United States ought to pursue similar prosecutions against Iranian officials. We should start with Ahmadinejad. You want to tell me that isn't Mahmoud Ahmadinejad (circa 1979) leading an American embassy official away from the American Embassy? Look closely:
The worst terrorist attack ever on Argentine soil, the bombing of the Jewish cultural center in Buenos Aires killed 85 people and injured more than 200 when an explosive-laden vehicle detonated near the building.
Prosecutors urged the judge to seek international and national arrest orders for Rafsanjani, who was Iran's president between 1989 and 1997. They also were asking the judge to detain several other former Iranian officials, including a former intelligence chief, Ali Fallahijan, and former Foreign Minister Ali Ar Velayati. They also said they were urging the judge to order the arrest of two former commanders of Iran's Revolutionary Guards, two former Iranian diplomats and a former Hezbollah security chief for external affairs.

ASSESSING ISLAM
"We are at war with an alien power with no regard for Western principles; an enemy that seeks nothing less than our submission or destruction. More than larger defense budgets or better intelligence, we must recover a public insistence on rigorous thought. Diplomatic wrangling and debating the minutiae of policy must give way to a candid reassessment of what Islam is, what it has done, and what it stands to do. It is these questions that we must take up if we are to have any serious hope of saving a West currently unaware of the full magnitude of what is as stake."The author of the above commentary is Gregory Davis, producer of the documentary Islam: What the West Needs to Know, available on DVD. He is also the author of Religion of Peace?: Islam's War against the World. I haven't read the book, but I have seen the film and can recommend it. [I spotted the article by Gregory Davis at Mark Alexander's web site]
ISLAM ON THE COUCH
EU CAR INDUSTRY UTTERLY FAILS TO MEET EMISSIONS GOALS
Three-quarters of Europe's car brands are failing to improve fuel efficiency fast enough to meet a key European emissions target, a study has claimed. ... According to the report commissioned by Transport and Environment (T&E), Nissan, Suzuki, Mazda, Audi, Volvo, BMW and Volkswagen cut their emissions at less than half the rate needed to meet their commitment.I think this also exposes the idiocy of setting unrealistic anti-industrial goals - like Kyoto did. And it of course exposes the hypcorisy of the Euro-left.
HAS CHAVEZ BLINKED?
BBC: "Iraqi PM vows to tackle militias"
Militia members on parade in Sadr City in August Iraqi Prime Minister Nouri Maliki has pledged to tackle illegal militias, which are widely blamed for the growing sectarian violence in the country. "We will strike hard at anyone who defies the law," Mr Maliki said."Bout damn time! More from AP/NYTIMES here. Early, first-hand account here.
His comments come a day after the US ambassador said Iraqi leaders had agreed to a timetable for achieving key goals, including tackling the militias. Overnight, Iraqi forces raided Baghdad's Sadr City, a militia bastion, hunting a suspected death squad leader. Iraqi forces came under fire and called for backup from US aircraft, according to a US military statement.
LONGING FOR THE CALIPHATE?
"[T]he caliphate is also esteemed by many ordinary Muslims....Muslims regard themselves as members of the umma, or community of believers, that forms the heart of Islam. And as earthly head of that community, the caliph is cherished both as memory and ideal, interviews indicate."On October 23, 2006, Dr. Walid Phares wrote an essay entitled "The Caliph-Strophic Debate" analyzing a recent article in Newsweek Magazine. Excerpt from Dr. Phares' article:
"It seems that the US is having a hard time winning the hearts and minds of Arabs and Muslims, but an equally serious problem can be observed in the intellectual circles of America where some have had a difficulty coming to terms with the terminology of the War of Ideas. If the educated elite of the United States is incapable of identifying the ideology and the strategy of the Jihadists five years after 9/11, we not only have a problem with handling the War in Iraq, but also with the future of American national security as a whole. Many Muslims, including CAIR, have objected to President Bush's use of the word "caliphate." In his essay, Dr. Phares explores Newsweek's errors and why it is important to understand the historical and current significance to Muslims regarding the utopian concept of establishing the caliphate. Read all of Dr. Phares' essay here.
An article published in Newsweek magazine on October 13, 2006 illustrates this problem...."
ISRAEL'S INEXPLICABLE SILENCE ON FRENCH BLOOD LIBEL
Both men separately proved mathematically and physically that the IDF forces on the ground could not see the Duras from their position and that it was physically impossible for their bullets to have killed Muhammad. Then OC Southern Command Maj.-Gen.Yom Tov Samia held a news conference in late November based on their findings at which he said that the probability that the IDF had killed Dura was low.Blogger Richard Landes at The Augean Stables goes so far as to suggest that the trial of Philippe Karsenty, in which a decision was rendered last week, was fixed: Continue reading....
Yet Samia was the only senior Israeli official to question the veracity of the film. Then chief of General Staff Shaul Mofaz disavowed Samia's investigation. Prime minister Ehud Barak never questioned the veracity of Enderlin's murderous accusation against the IDF. ...
Yet, even as private individuals were dedicating their time and passion to proving that France 2 had purposely broadcast a blood libel against Israel that caused the death and injury of Israelis and Jews throughout the world and marred the honor of the IDF, official Israel remained silent.
The Foreign Ministry never asked France 2 to show its officials the full 27-minute film. Neither the IDF nor the Foreign or Justice Ministries defended the IDF or called into question the veracity of Enderlin's film. As late as this past June 23, IDF spokeswoman Brig.-Gen. Miri Regev told Haaretz, "I cannot determine whether the IDF is or is not responsible for the killing of al-Dura." ...
Over the years Israeli officials have justified their silence by saying that it was a losing proposition to reopen the Dura case. We'll be accused of blaming the victim, they said. This statement is both cowardly and irresponsible. As the French verdict shows, without an Israeli protest, the protests of private individuals, however substantial, ring hollow. When Israel refuses to defend itself from blood libels, it gives silent license to attacks against Israel and world Jewry in the name of those libels.
In 2000, Barak was desperately trying to close a peace deal with Yasser Arafat. The last thing he wanted was to admit that Arafat was promulgating blood libels against Israel. So he was silent. This is unforgivable, but understandable.
Israel's continued silence is a sign that Israeli officialdom has still not understood what the war of images demands of it. The Dura film, like the fictional massacre of Lebanese children at Kafr Kana in Lebanon this summer, shows that victory or defeat in wars is today largely determined on television. To win, Israel must go on the offensive and attack untruthful, distorted images that are used to justify the killing of Israelis and Jews throughout the world.
When Karsenty heard the court's verdict last week, he said, "If this judgment is upheld, Jews should ask themselves questions about their future in France. Justice covers the anti-Semitic lies of a public channel. It's a strong signal, it is very severe."
To this it should be added that if the Israeli government continues to be silent as the good name of the IDF, of Israel and of the Jewish people is dragged through the mud by distorted television images broadcast by foreign news outlets; if the Israeli government does nothing to defend those who are persecuted for fighting against these distortions, then Jews will have to ask themselves some questions about how on earth we are supposed to defend ourselves, let alone win this war against those who seek our destruction.
SMALL STORIES WITH LARGE IMPLICATIONS?
Reliapundit adds: Dhimmis are a already huge problem; they aid the enemy from either fear or a misplaced and/or ill-conceived altruism. And Euro-Muslims - from Chechnya for example - might be able avoid detection and might easily take part in an attack or smuggling inside the EU or the USA. But this story reminds us that converts to Islam (who embrace global jihad, but otherwise look and sound ENTIRELY Western) might be jihadoterrorism's secret weapon. They might be impossible to find... until it's too late... Which is why I think the intelligence agencies ought to be hunting for other Western converts who attended radical mosques - folks like Richard Reid.

TET/VIETNAM 1968 + ATOCHA/MADRID 2004 = RAMADAN/IRAQ 2006
It's worked before: in 1968, the Vietcong Communists launched the Tet offensive, and lost. But the MSM reported it as a quagmire; Johnson withdrew from the race, and most Americans were been convinced by the MSM that the war was unwinnable.
More recently, al Qaeda attacked several commuter trains in Madrid a few days before their elections and tipped the election to th appeasing/"anti-war" socialists.
The enemy is attempting to do this again - in Iraq - and once again they have the tacit aid of the MSM.
Don't fall for it. Get out and vote GOP.
MSM TO PUBLIC: "IT'S WHATEVER WE CAN CONVINCE YOU SUCKS, STUPID!"
I voted for Clinton on 1992 (I am now sorry to say), but I did not do so because I thought the economy was bad; (IT WASN'T! The recession ended the last quarter of 1992:
While in historical terms the recession was mild and actually ended before the election, the resulting job loss (especially among middle managers not yet accustomed to white collar downsizing) fueled strong discontent with Bush, who was successfully portrayed as aloof, out of touch, and overly focused on foreign affairs.).Nor did I vote Clinton because I thought that Clinton would "handle" the economy better than Bush. I voted for Clinton because I thought Bush had bailed out on Saddam and left the war unfinished, and I thought Clinton and Gore might be more hawkish.
I knew at the time that the economy was too big and the tools of the White House too small to make much of a difference in our economic situation. The only real power lay with the Fed Reserve, and even the Fed could not guarantee economic growth. (I'm in favor of low taxes based on political and moral priciples, not economic ones.)
So... (you ask), if it the economy wasn't bad, then ... WHY DID CLINTON WIN?! Well, FIRST, remember Clinton won both times because of Perot; and remember: Clinton NEVER won a majority of the electorate; he NEVER polled 50%. And SECOND: People FELT the economy was much worse than it really was. And people VOTED according to HOW THEY FELT. In other words: "IT'S VOTER DISAFFECTION, STUPID!"
So ... (you ask), "Why did the people feel the economy was bad in 1992?" Because... THE MSM REPORTED IT THAT WAY! (And then, they reported it was great as soon as BJ CLINTON TOOK OVER!
Well, the MSM is trying to pull the same crap today - and to make it worse... they are coupling biased economic "reporting" with good ol' fashioned vintage 1968 Tet Offensive "war-reporting", too: By relentlessly reporting that Iraq is an unwinnable quagmire inevitably descending into civil war, they have made most Americans think Iraq is just that.
DON'T FALL FOR IT! (1) The economy since 2001 is BETTER than it was during the Clinton years! And (2) we are winning the GWOT - in Iraq and Afghanistan and around the world. Democracy is on the move! SURE: The enemy hasn't surrendered yet; they won't for a few decades! SO ....BUCK UP! Stop whining.
Of course, if you want to pay higher taxes and cede our national security to the UN and the EU, and give into the terrorists then by all means: VOTE DEMOCRAT!
More insight on MSM propaganda from the Captain.
DRISCOLL AGREES.
KHALILZAD: IRAN AND SYRIA ARE BEHIND IRAQ'S SECTARIAN STRIFE
"REUTERS": [US Ambassador to Iraq] Khalilzad depicted the struggle to build a united, democratic Iraq as "the defining challenge of our era" and said it would shape the future of the Middle East and global security. "Those forces that constitute the extremist camp including not only al Qaeda, but Iran and Syria, are at work to keep us and the Iraqis from succeeding," ... "They fear Iraq's success. They want to undermine our resolve by imposing costs on us in terms of prolonging the conflict, imposing casualties and creating the perception that Iraq cannot be stabilized," he said.He is right - 100% right. SO..... WHEN WILL WE DO SOMETHING ABOUT IT!? Faster, please!
Al Qaeda and Iraq's "foreign rivals" were trying to tear the Iraqi people apart along sectarian lines, Khalilzad said, naming Iran and Syria as countries that "cynically support rival groups involved in the violence."
America's Vision: Occupation And The Building Of New Nations
Our consumerist, instant gratification culture gives birth to a mindframe which is unrealistic. The new nation we bought, and paid for, is ours. We can take it home and put it in our history books.
But, a new nation is not a product that we buy. And, if it is like a product, then it is more akin to open-source software than it is to a mass-market brand in the capitalist marketplace. Its development will take time, and we have to build it through trial and error.
A war is for the destruction of a regime. War's aftermath is for the building of a new nation. Let's look at how long it took us to rebuild in previous wars in which we fought to rid a nation of an evil regime.
In Germany, post WWII, we found we needed 200,000 troops to maintain the occupation and rebuilding efforts. We did not hand over full-sovereignty to the German government until 1955; ten years later.Rebuilding a nation takes time. Obliterating the evil ideologies that are the foundation of malevolent regimes is a generational effort.
In Japan, post-WWII, we found we needed approximately 300,000 troops. We did not hand over full-sovereignty to the Japanese government until 1953, eight years laters.
If you think about it, our rebuilding efforts in the South took even more time. If it were not so, President Eisenhower would not have had to send 1,200 federal troops into Arkansas to escort nine children to classes at Little Rock High School in 1957.
I believe we Americans have it in us to see our Democracy project through. Do you believe in America's vision?
ARE THE DEMOCRATS APPEASERS AND SOCIALISTS? MAIS OUI!
Ronald Reagan famous declaration that he “did not leave the Democratic Party. It left me” can be made more contemporary. The Democratic Party has not only left behind many of its old principles and ideals, it now seems to be in the process of losing its moorings and leaving America entirely.
THE BLOGOSPHERE AND CAIR
"Your comment will be posted once it has been approved."My comment has never appeared, even three days later. What I attempted to post read somewhat as follows:
"From what I've read, some of the incidents reported by CAIR were not confirmed.Today, I left a comment asking why my comments had never appeared. That comment has also not appeared. Apparently, all of my comments were deemed inappropriate.... Read the rest here.
"Frankly, Americans showed remarkable restraint following 9/11."
Reliapundit adds: GREAT POST! Welcome aboard! We knew that YouTube was censoring videos, BUT CENSORING COMMENTS!? Sheesh. Then again, I guess it should come as no surprise: the Left proved with Campiagn Finance Reform that they do NOT value free speech. This attitude is historically typical of all Statist ideologies: individual liberty is always subverted to the "common good": the individual straw is weak/breakable, but the bundle of straws - the fasci, in Latin - is strong. Hence, the affinities between Leftists and the Islamofascists: they are both utopianist and Statist ideologies purveyed by folks who think they know what the "common good" is, and that this is more important than doing whatever you think is good for you. Now comes news that GOOGLE/YouTube is starting a PAC. I bet they'll continue support the "common good" even when it abridges free speech!
DID FRANCE HELP RWANDANS COMMIT GENOCIDE?
France has been accused by government officials in Rwanda of being complicit in the killing of 800,000 people. A panel of respected Rwandans is hearing claims that French soldiers stationed in Rwanda allowed or even encouraged the massacre of Tutsis. ... The panel is headed by former Justice Minister Jean de Dieu Mucyo and its hearings are being broadcast live on local radio. It is hearing from 25 survivors of the genocide, who claim to have witnessed French involvement. ... The panel will determine whether or not to refer the allegations to the International Court of Justice. Its findings are expected within six months.I think they should put Kofi Annan on trial too: The UN admitted failure, but Kofi's guilt maybe deeper: he was in charge of "peace-keeping" for the UN at the time. More here.
IS FALLUJAH A TOWN IN SCOTLAND?
Can't blame Bush or Israel for this. Is the intifada spreading? Sure seems like it.
SCHIZOPHRENIC AMERICAN JEWRY
57% back Israel taking military action to block Iran from obtaining nuclear arms, while 35% are opposed and the rest say they don't know. However, the numbers are practically reversed - 38% to 54% - when it comes to the United States acting by force against Iran. They're willing to fight against Iran down to the last Israeli?
56% feel Israel and her Arab neighbors will never be able "to settle their differences and live in peace," compared to 38% who disagreed. But 54% want a 'Palestinian state' anyway?
And unfortunately, 54% of those surveyed identified as Democrats rather than Republicans (15%). The rest were either Independents (29%) or not sure (3%).
I wonder what the survey would have said if they'd asked how many equate Judaism with 'liberalism.' I'm going to guess somewhere in the 55-64% range.

COUNTER-ATTACKING THE FOURTH ESTATE/FIFTH COULMN
Many have complained that we weren't doing enough to combat the bad press. Now it seems we are finally beginning to fight back: Duncan Hunter wants to ban CNN (video here), and the Brits HAVE just banned ITV (for similarly traitorous coverage - via PJM).
It's about damn time. Bravo. I have long maintained that we cannot defeat the enemy abroad until we defeat their Fifth Coumn at home - and that's the Left and the MSM they still dominate.
WHICH GROUP HAD MORE REFUGEES IN 1948, ARABS OR JEWS?
World Jewish groups began a global campaign yesterday calling for recognition of Jews from Arab countries as refugees in the Middle East conflict. "The world sees the plight of Palestinian refugees, and not withstanding their plight, there must be recognition that Jews from Arab countries are also victims of the Arab-Israeli conflict," said Stanley Urman, executive director of Justice for Jews from Arab Countries (JJAC). JJAC, a U.S.-based coalition of Jewish organizations, is one of the groups coordinating the campaign, which aims to record testimonies of Jews who fled in the face of persecution, list asset losses and lobby foreign governments on their behalf.SO.... how many Arab refugees fled Israel in 1948? Was it more or less than the number of Jews who fled Arabia? LESS: only 720,000. Yet, until now, no one cared about the Jewish regugees from Arabia. Until now. Any deal on Arab refugees from Israel MUST includes a deal for the Jewish refugees from Arabia.
Jewish groups have estimated that since 1948 at least 900,000 Jews have been forced to leave their homes in Arab countries such as Egypt, Iraq, Libya, Syria, Lebanon and Yemen.
[BTW: for you doubters out there, according to Koran, Medina was largely a Jewish town until Mohamet wiped out the Jews there. And Baghdad alone had as many as 150,000 Jews in 1948. For those interested in reading the human drama of this exodus I recommend the memoir OUT OF EGYPT.]
MORE EVIDENCE ISRAEL DEFEATED HIZBALLAH
The Israel Air Force destroyed 59 intermediate and long-range missile launchers in the Hezbollah arsenal during the second day of the war in Lebanon, during a raid that lasted 34 minutes, according to research recently published by David Makovsky and Jeffrey White of the Washington Institute of Near East Policy. If the West still didn't harbor double-standards when it comes to Israel, then Israel could have finished off Hizballah in a few more weeks. But the fact that Israel was prevented from delivering a coup de grace doesn't mean they lost. They demolished Hizballah and at the very least bought a few more years of peace on their northern border. [ASIDE: The threat of more war against Israel from the north (and a destabilized Lebanon) will exist for as long as Iran and Syria are ruled by tyrannies.]
The success of the raid was the greatest Israel Defense Forces achievement during the war, and according to Israeli assessments, it prevented Hezbollah leader, Hassan Nasrallah, from being able to carry out his threats and strike central Israel with missiles.
THE 2006 ELECTION: FOR DISPIRITED CONSERVATIVES, IT'S ALL ABOUT YOU AND YOUR NOSE
WHY? Well, many conservatives have many reasons to be disappointed with Bush and the GOP led Congress. HERE'S A LINK TO A LONG LIST OF DISAPPOINTMENTS. (A list - via GLENN - by a conservative who did not vote GOP.) Most conservatives would agree with some or even many of the items on the list.
But by not voting GOP, the conservative goals the listmaker's list implies he supports WILL ACTUALLY JUST BECOME EVEN LESS LIKELY TO ACHIEVE. In other words, this approach is like "cutting off one's nose to spite one's face."
The disappointed conservative better advances conservatism if he HOLDS HIS NOSE AND VOTES GOP. MY MESSAGE TO DISAPPOINTED CONSERVATIVES IS THIS:
BE SENSIBLE: DON'T CUT OFF YOUR NOSE; HOLD IT!
IS SAUDI ARABIA HELPING TO OUST ASSAD?
Arab-Israeli newspaper al-Sinara reported that, last Tuesday, during a ten day pilgrimage to Mecca, Khaddam met with Saudi Arabia's King Abdullah and Crown Prince Sultan bin Abdul Aziz. ... In response to claims that the King of Saudi Arabia met with former Syrian Vice President Abdul Halim Khaddam - a recognized opponent of Bashar Assad's regime – Syrian media announced Sunday evening that "Saudi Arabia is trying to create a civil war and implement US orders, in order to besiege Syria and harm its stability."This is long overdue. Perhaps the House of Saud has found new motivation as a result of the Hizballah-Israel War? After all, Hizballah is a proxy of the Iranians, and the Iranians are not Sunni and NOT ARAB. As such, their expanding Middle Eastern hegemony is a grave threat to the House of Saud. The Saudis are realists: they justifiably fear the Iranians more than they do Israel. To contain Iran, Saudi Arabia knows it must defang Hizballah and Syria. Overthrowing Assad accomplishes both. I TRULY expect this to happen very soon. Before any confrontation with Iran.
... In an interview aired by a television station owned by the al-Hariri family in Lebanon, Khaddam spoke to the Syrian people in honor of Eid al-Fiter, promising that "the tyrannical regime is about to collapse" and be replaced with a democratic one.
I feel that there has been hesitation on our part to foment this regime change because we were afraid that it might cause more chaos in the region, and that this would hurt our efforts in Iraq and in the so-called "occupied territories." I feel that the administration has finally concluded that Shia/Iranian/Syrian efforts at destabilization in Iraq and Gaza and the "West Bank" are so widespread, that we have NOTHING TO LOSE. That's why I feel that Assad's days are numbered. I predict he will be gone by Spring.
BBC ADMITS DEEPLY INGRAINED BIAS...
... executives admitted the corporation is dominated by homosexuals and people from ethnic minorities, deliberately promotes multiculturalism, is anti-American, anti-countryside and more sensitive to the feelings of Muslims than Christians.I have felt for a long time that this was the real reason why the MSM is so awful: the MSM is basically run by what used to be called the "radical chic" - and they twist the news to promote all of their biases and to advance their radical, Leftist agenda. Since at least the 1970's, they've attained the key positions of power at most of the big media giants, and they hire and promote only the people who tow their ideological line. And, they work AND LIVE in anti-traditionalist/anti-bourgeiose bubbles so they don't even realize how out of touch with the mainstream they really are.
I hope that this report helps speed the day when the reign of the "radical chic" at the BCC and the NYTIMES - and all the other media they dominate - ends. When their domination of the MSM ends, the MSM will no longer function as a Fifth Column, and those of us who actually LIKE Western Civilization will have a much easier time defeating the jihadoterrorists.
UPDATED & BUMPED 10/23: POPINJAY ADDS:
the [BBC] executives were given a scenario in which Jewish Comedian Sasha Baron Cohen would participate in a program titled "Room 101", a studio program where guests would be asked for their opinions on different issues, and allowed to symbolically throw things they hated in a garbage bin.
The executives were asked what they would do if Cohen decided to throw "Kosher food," the Archbishop of Canterbury, the Bible, and the Quran in the garbage bin. The executives said they would allow everything to be thrown in the garbage bin, save the Quran, for fear of offending the British Muslim community. [Umph added!]And I'm gonna tell you what... the BBC is not alone in that. I would bet just about every American news network would take the same position. When I first saw that the media was covering for Islam while bashing Christianity I kind of laughed at it, but now it's just getting completely ridiculous and downright scary.
HATE CRIMES: JEWS AND MUSLIMS
Jews are also targeted more than Muslims in the EU, and these attacks are increasing. And on top of that, Muslims are - more often than not - unpunished for their crimes, for their riots, for their EU intifadas in Paris and Gothenberg and Windsor and Brussels.
And yet the Left still blames the JOOOOOZE and/or the so-called "The Israel Lobby" and/or the neocons. Sheesh. As the song asked: When will they ever learn? When will the ever learn?
[I'LL TELL YOU WHEN: When they accept the fact that the West and the Jews are VICTIMS of islamofascist jihad, and not at all deserving of their attacks. When they accept the fact that global jihad is NOT a response to Western hegemony, but the thousand year old goal of a religion which spread ONLY through its use of militancy and terror: Islam. That's when.
I'm not holding my breath. The truth about Islam (that it is - in its current state - largely incompatible with democracy and universal human rights), is as hard for Leftists to accept as is the truth about socialism, (that it is a bankrupt ideology which was an abject failure everywhere it was tried).
Our efforts in Afghanistan and Iraq are in some measure an effort to reshape the Islamic world into one which IS compatible with democracy and universal human rights. This is a HUGE project and a noble cause. One we shouldn't abandon when the going gets tough.
But, if you don't believe that Islam can ever be reformed, or that Muslims don't deserve their univeral human rights, and if you choose to forget that 9/11 proved that we cannot withdraw to safety behind a moat, and if you want to ignore the fact that denial of a threat doesn't make one safe, then by all means VOTE DEMOCRAT - the party of denial, delusion, and ultimately defeat for our side. But they are the terrorists last best hope.]
MOST POLLUTED NATIONS: USA MISSES TOP 10!
RELIAPUNDIT ADDS: Great post, NS. And a quick look at the list proves another thing: The top ten are all in nations which became polluted while under true Leftist/socialist regimes. This is just more PROOF that socialism was and remains an utter failure: unable to deliver the goods (a better standard of living), and unable to protect the environment and the workplace. WHY?! Leftist policies hinder the efficient production and distribution of goods and services, and cut the profits necessary to be able to invest in cleaner production while still delivering value to the consumer.
OLMERT-PERETZ-LIVNI GOVERNMENT CONDUCTING 'DIALOGUE' WITH SAUDIS
Western diplomatic sources said Olmert, with the help of Jordan's King Abdullah, has met Saudi officials to discuss Riyad's vision of ending the Arab-Israeli conflict and ensuring stability in the Middle East. The sources said Riyad has offered its peace plan as a basis for Saudi-led Arab cooperation with Israel.Sheetrit is even a bigger leftist than Olmert. Still, I have to wonder whether (and why) the rest of the government would go along with this. The 'Saudi inititiative' is a suicide plan for Israel. If Olmert is so tired of fighting, let him pack up and leave and join his sons abroad.
"Olmert has accepted the principle that the Saudis have become a key player in any effort to stabilize the Middle East," a diplomat said. "The Israelis and Saudis have joint interest in ensuring stability after the expected U.S. withdrawal from Iraq."
Over the last month, Olmert's political ally, Justice Minister Meir Sheetrit has endorsed the Saudi plan, first presented in 2002. The minister said Israel should hold peace negotiations with the Arabs based on an Israeli withdrawal to the 1967 borders.
PARIS INTIFADA CONTINUES UNABATED
First, the islamofacists see that much of Europe will not aid American efforts to democratize the Middle East. Second, they know that Europe - especially the French - barely defended themselves the last time their democracies were threatened in WW2!
What makes it more threatening are these two facts: (1) the enemies of freedom are patient; their timeline is not marked by mid-year elections. And (2), these enemies are also willing to suffer greater casualties while attempting to inflict their hideous ideology on others than the West seems to be willing to accept in defense of its own civilization. In other words, Bush's well-meaning policies are failing - not because casualties are too high - but because they are too low. The insurgents in Iraq and the Taleban have Rope-A-Doped the West and are now threatening their counter-attack. Bush and Blair seem exhausted by the onslaught of the media and their constant negativity and defeatism. Which leads me to ask: How will the West respond to the enemy's October Surprise? We shall see...

The Jihadis Want You To Vote Democrat
"If the Muslims of America believe that they don't want Bush to have a free hand for the next two years, then the Muslims of America need to get organized and make sure they get out to vote for Democrats for both the House and the Senate. Every Muslim in the Middle East who has a relative in the U.S. should get the message across to their relatives. They need to make sure that all their friends vote against Bush."
The American TV station that broadcasts JIHAD SERMONS ON U.S. TV here is urging Americans to vote for the DEMOCRATS:The Islamic Television Network that is busy getting out the vote for the Democrats is also busy broadcasting sermons calling for the overthrow of the United States Constitution, and its replacement with Sharia:Bridges TV, an American-Islamic TV channel "seeking to improve the image of Muslims in the United States" and to "offer a unique perspective on the Middle East and the war on terrorism," has extended its availability into six states, creating a potential audience of nearly 2 million.
A religious figure who appeared on the channel on Oct. 3 said Muslims have a duty to change America and to increase their numbers to 50% of the population from 2%. He recommended that Islamic law be implemented in American courts.Oh yes, and, of course, they are above spreading the old canard about Jews controlling America:"I have news for the Muslim community," he said. "All American politicians are in the pocket of the Jewish lobby today because they control a lot of money, and they spend a lot of money in politics.Really, they ought to get it together with the Jews, because the truth is, Jews overwhelmingly go right along with the wishes of the Jihadis and vote Democrat.
JOB APPROVAL AND THE POLLS
BUT, DOES THIS MEAN THAT VOTERS WILL VOTE FOR THE OPPOSITION? NO. MANY PEOPLE WHO ARE UNHAPPY WITH BUSH AND CONGRESS ARE PEOPLE WHO WOULD NEVER VOTE DEMOCRAT: CONSERVATIVES. IN FACT, ALL OF THE SLIPPAGE WHICH BUSH AND CONGRESS HAVE SUFFERED THE LAST TWO YEARS IS SLIPPAGE OF THE GOP BASE; (Bush hasn't lost support among Democrats and liberals because he never had it to begin with!). WHY HAVE BUSH AND CONGRESS LOST CONSERVATIVE SUPPORT? Simple:
Conservatives are unhappy with the Bush and Congress for many reasons: Harriet Miers; immigration; slow amd weak handling of both Syria and Iran; lack of support for Israel in their war against Hizballah; too much multi-lateralism in regard to North Korea; bad handling of ther Jefferson corruption scandal; and so on.NONE of the people unhappy with Bush and Congress on these issues would EVER vote Democrat. All the GOP has to do is get them to the polls and the GOP will hold both bodies of Congress.
To get them to the polls the GOP merely has to remind people that if the Democrat Party gets control things will get even worse: Higher taxes at home, and appeasement abroad; NO CONSERVATIVE JUDGES; less support for Israel and Afghanistan and Iraq; more kowtowing to the UN and the EU. If that's what you want, then by all means stay home. You'll be sending a message alright: that Conservatives would cut off their noses to spite their faces.
UPDATE: Since Bush got 52% of the vote last time out, his current numbers mean that about 25% of his supporters are pissed off at him. The GOP must identify these voters and get them to the polls. If they do, then the GOP will do very well, (And the Democrats will claim ANTOHER election was stolen!)
UPDATE #2 - K-LO/NRO: "Newsweek poll puts Democrats far ahead in Congress" — should anyone be shocked that Dems come out ahead when only 28 percent of your poll is made up of Republicans, and 35 percent Democrat... ? Reliapundit: This "poll" OVERSAMPLED Democrats bya WHOPPING 20%! If this "poll" had sampled either the average number of Dems who voted in the last THREE elections, or an equal number of Dems and GOP'ers, then the GOP, and BUSH would be coming out ahead. COMPLETE ROUND-UP HERE, AT MEMEORANDUM.
NON-EXISTENT 'PALESTINIAN HISTORY'
[ASIDE: Reliapundit adds: "Palestine" was liberated - in 1948 when Jews won their independence! Ever since, Arabs have been trying to obliterate the only pluralistic democracy in the entire Middle East - Israel. When Arabs say "liberation" they actually mean genocide of Jews and Islamic totalitarianism. If you support genocide of Jews and totalitarianism then you should support Arabs who oppose Israel.]

EGYPTIAN POLICE INTERCEPT LARGE ARMS SHIPMENT BOUND FOR GAZA STRIP AS IDF TRIES TO FIND HUNDREDS OF WEAPONS TUNNELS
This is not the first time that large weapons smuggling operations have been stopped since Israel surrendered the Gaza Strip to the 'Palestinians' in August 2005. A total of 13 tunnels have been uncovered during IDF operations in Gaza in the last three days, along with a number of shafts for not yet completed tunnels. Some of the uncovered tunnels originated inside homes close to the border with Egypt. Homes like the one Rachel Corrie died protecting (yes, this is the same area where Rachel Corrie decided to try to block a bulldozer with her body and earned the name "St. Pancake").
Six tunnels have been destroyed in controlled demolitions by IDF sappers. Arms and explosives smuggling from Egypt into the Gaza Strip is worse than originally estimated, IDF sources said yesterday. In January, they estimated 3000 rifles a day. I wonder how many there are now. According to the same sources, dozens of tunnels have been used for uninterrupted smuggling activities during the past year. Continue reading....

Reliapundit: POETRY
I'll be RE-memorizing my two favorite poems this weekend. I've put the full poems in the comments section. Here are the first lines:Matthew Arnold's THE BURIED LIFE
Light flows our war of mocking words, and yet,
Behold, with tears mine eyes are wet!
I feel a nameless sadness o'er me roll.RM Rilke's FOR THE SAKE OF A SINGLE POEM...Ah, poems amount to so little when you write them too early in your life. You ought to wait and gather sense and sweetness for a whole lifetime, and a long one if possible, and then, at the very end, you might perhaps be able to write ten good lines.
Pastorius - MUSIC
I'm listening to the album Voodoo by D'Angelo. D'Angelo is known as an R&B artist (Neo-Soul is what they tend to call him), but in my opinion, Voodoo is to R&B what Miles Davis' Bitches Brew was to Jazz. It is a complete re-imagining of the genre.
The album opens with a tune that will go down in the history books. Playa Playa preps us in the opening bars with a polyrhythmic groove which is both tight and loose at the same time. And, if you thought that groove elusive wait til you get slammed by D'Angelo's chorus of vocals. With his vocal inflections and nuanced phrasing, he tricks the groove every which way, until your body is literally twitching in a ceremony of ecstacy, like the Voodoo of the album's title. Other standout tracks include Devil's Pie, Chicken Grease, The Root, Spanish Joint, and Africa.
D'Angelo, on the strength of this one album has taken his place among the pantheon of great black music innovators; James Brown, Sly Stone, Duke Ellington, Charles Mingus, Miles Davis, Stevie Wonder, etc. That's an audacious thing for me to say, probably, but listen, and tell me I'm wrong. This album is a wonder.
LAWMAKER OUTRAGED BY SNIPER FOOTAGE ON CNN; CALLS FOR OUSTER
SAN DIEGO -- CNN has become "the publicist for an enemy propaganda film" by broadcasting a video showing an insurgent sniper in Iraq apparently killing an American soldier, the chairman of the House Armed Services Committee said here Friday.Unvarnished truth? How about showing the Twin Towers falling to their death? That's pretty unvarnished, isn't it? Oh, that's right, that might get Americans mad and behind the president. The MSM wouldn't want that, would they! MORE HERE.
Rep. Duncan Hunter (R-El Cajon) called for the Pentagon to oust any CNN reporter embedded with U.S. troops in Iraq. "I think Americans like to think we're all in this together," Hunter said. "The average American Marine or soldier has concluded after seeing that film that CNN is not on their side."
CNN said it broadcast the brief video to show the threat that insurgent snipers posed to U.S. troops. "Whether or not you agree with us in this case, our goal, as always, is to present the unvarnished truth as best we can," CNN producer David Doss wrote in a blog on the network's website.

GEORGE BUSH CHANNELS TOM PETTY
Despite calls for change [in Iraq policy], Bush said, "Our goal has not changed. Our goal is a country that can defend, sustain and govern itself, a country that which will serve as an ally in this war. Our tactics are adjusting." ... Presidential spokesman Tony Snow said that while Bush might change tactics, he would not change his overall strategy. ... Bush, at a political fundraiser in Washington for the National Republican Senatorial Committee, railed against Democrats who criticize the war. Calling the Democrats the party of "cut and run," Bush said voters need to ask: "Which political party has a strategy for victory in this war on terror?'" ... [REPEAT:] Presidential spokesman Tony Snow said that while Bush might change tactics, he would not change his overall strategy.
Well I wont back down, no I wont back down.If you want your country to backdown while under attack by the jihadothugs, then vote Democrat. If you want to fight until we win, then vote GOP. It's that simple. Just ask Ned Lamont.
You can stand me up at the gates of hell, But I wont back down
Gonna stand my ground, wont be turned around, and Ill keep this world from draggin me down. Gonna stand my ground and I wont back down
Hey baby, there aint no easy way out. Hey I will stand my ground, and I wont back down.
Well I know whats right, I got just one life. In a world that keeps on pushin me around, but Ill stand my ground and I wont back down
Diane Sawyer: Another Liberal Who Is Cool With Genocide

Diane Sawyer wants you to know that the North Korean puppies are really cute too.Yeah, isn't that friggin' fascinating? It's fascinating that Diane Sawyer doesn't acknowledge that Kim Jong Il is gassing his own people, you know, just like Adolf Hitler used to do:
On Thursday's World News on ABC, Diane Sawyer checked in from North Korea, but she proved little more than a conveyor belt for the repressive communist regime's propaganda. Talking to a North Korean Army General, she relayed how “he said to us, 'make it clear to everyone in the United States, if there is another nuclear test, the person responsible is George Bush,' because he said, 'the Bush administration is backing North Korea into a corner with its pressures and its sanctions.'" Sawyer helpfully added that “the General said to us, he does want peace. And he also said, again, reiterated, North Korea will not be the first to use a nuclear weapon.” How reassuring.
In a second segment, Sawyer was taken to a school which she favorably described as “a world away from the unruly individualism of any American school." She gushed: “Ask them about their country, and they can't say enough." A teenage girl declared, in English: “We are the happiest children in the world.” Sawyer ended her piece with video of her and the class singing "Do-Re-Mi" from the Sound of Music. Far from being embarrassed by Sawyer's obsequious approach, anchor Charles Gibson proposed: "A fascinating glimpse of North Korea."
In the remote north-eastern corner of North Korea, close to the border of Russia and China, is Haengyong. Hidden away in the mountains, this remote town is home to Camp 22 - North Korea's largest concentration camp, where thousands of men, women and children accused of political crimes are held. Now, it is claimed, it is also where thousands die each year and where prison guards stamp on the necks of babies born to prisoners to kill them.Look, let's be honest, Diane Sawyer knows this. It is common knowledge. Diane Sawyer is just doing her part in the media's full court press against the Republicans here in these last weeks before the election. The truth is, she just hates George Bush more than she cares about the people Kim Jong Il is killing. Isn't that fascinating?
SUPREME COURT UPHOLDS ARIZONA'S PHOTO ID LAW FOR ELECTIONS
Arizona voters will have to present identification at the polls on Nov. 7 after all. This is excellent news and definitely one for our side. Nothing is fool-proof, but if people are required to show a photo-ID to vote, it makes voter fraud that much harder. Let's hope the court eventually make the right decision on the Constitutional question. [Complete round-up HERE at Memeorandum.]
The U.S. Supreme Court ruled Friday that Arizona can go ahead with requiring voters to present a photo ID, starting with next month's general election, as part of the Proposition 200 that voters passed in 2004. The ruling overturns an Oct. 5 decision by the 9th Circuit Court of Appeals, which put the voter ID rules on hold this election cycle.
The Supreme Court on Friday did not decide whether the new voter ID rules are constitutional. That decision is still pending in federal district court.
Instead, the court decided that the 9th Circuit made a procedural error by granting an injunction to put the new rules on hold without waiting for the district court to explain its reasons for not granting an injunction.
CHICAGO TERRORIST TRIAL STARTED THURSDAY
What's unusual about this case is that the money was funneled before the US designated Hamas a terrorist group in Jnauary 1995. The indictment lists no activities after March 1994 other than refusing to testify before grand juries. Ashqar is being charged under the Federal Racketeering laws (RICO), which are typically used against the Mafia or other organized crime. Ashqar's argument boils down to "if the government hadn't designated them a terrorist group, there's nothing wrong with sending them money." Continue reading....
ANOTHER MAJOR SCIENTIST DEBUNKS MAN-MADE GLOBAL WARMING
One of the most decorated French geophysicists has converted from a believer in manmade catastrophic global warming to a climate skeptic. This latest defector from the global warming camp caps a year in which numerous scientific studies have bolstered the claims of climate skeptics. Scientific studies that debunk the dire predictions of human-caused global warming have continued to accumulate and many believe the new science is shattering the media-promoted scientific “consensus” on climate alarmism.Man-made global warming is a hoax concocted to give Leftists an excuse for raising taxes and attacking industrialism and capitalism.
Claude Allegre, a former government official and an active member of France’s Socialist Party, wrote an editorial on September 21, 2006 in the French newspaper L'Express titled “The Snows of Kilimanjaro” detailing his newfound skepticism about manmade global warming. ... Allegre wrote that the “cause of climate change remains unknown” and pointed out that Kilimanjaro is not losing snow due to global warming, but to local land use and precipitation changes. Allegre also pointed out that studies show that Antarctic snowfall rate has been stable over the past 30 years and the continent is actually gaining ice.
IS THE GOP REALLY TRAILING? OR: NUMBERS DON'T LIE; THE MSM DOES
Republicans have staggered in recent weeks under a barrage of painful publicity ranging from plunging fuel prices, to record stock market closes, to the Bush administration’s failure to produce inflation despite growing employment, reduced tax rates and soaring tax revenues.Heh. Actually the polls are wrong. And you can prove it by helping to GOTV!
Meanwhile, Democrats ride a wave of public adoration due to the party’s clear, positive vision for protecting the civil rights of foreign terrorists, retreating from Iraq so that rival Muslim sects can work out their differences without American interference, and restoring the Clinton era “spirit of cooperation” with North Korea.

Lamont Losing On Anti-Iraq War Monomania
WILLIMANTIC, Conn. - A single towering issue — Iraq — powered Ned Lamont in his dramatic primary victory over Democratic Sen. Joe Lieberman. Now Lamont is letting voters know he's got more to talk about than that, because Iraq alone isn't doing it for him in the fall campaign.Lamont is ticking off plans for expanded health care, universal preschool education and curbs in the influence of lobbyists. He's decrying U.S. addiction to foreign oil. To be sure, Iraq is no more settled than when he tapped the anger of so many Democrats over the war's course, securing the Democratic place on the ticket from an 18-year veteran who almost became vice president.
But Lamont's post-primary glow has faded and he trails Lieberman, who is running as an independent in a state with a vast pool of independent, if Democratic-leaning, voters.
The Republican Party will begin airing a hard-hitting ad this weekend that warns of more cataclysmic terror attacks against the U.S. homeland. The ad portrays Osama bin Laden and quotes his threats against America dating to February 1998. "These are the stakes," the ad concludes. "Vote November 7." Brian Jones, a spokesman for the Republican National Committee, said the ad would run on national cable beginning Sunday, but he declined to discuss specifics of the buy. The commercial tracks with Republican Party strategy to make the war on terrorism a central theme of this election.
By holding their breath, for starters. With party strategists increasingly afraid the Senate is slipping away, Republican officials are moving money around in high-stakes triage. Republican officials are trying to project confidence about keeping the Senate by spending heavily, and forcing Democrats to do the same, in blue states like Michigan, Maryland and New Jersey.
MESSAGE TO CONSERVATIVES: STOP WHINING AND GOTV!
... there is enormous discontent among conservatives with this Congress and even with the President. But conservative angst about their performance and translating that dissatisfaction into Election Day pouting absolutely must take a back seat to what the alternative would be. For if the Democrats take control, the blame for such a turn of events will be shared by both Congress itself and those who believe that reforming the party takes precedence over the safety and security of the United States. Those are the stakes. Now quit your griping and go vote.Ifd you go out and vote then we will WIN. NEED PROOF?! Then, RTWT. And don't believe crap like this.
FRANCE, DREYFUS AND AL DURA
This unjust decision is dhimmitude, pure and simple. The French - who have ignored their festering Muslim problem for decades - have again chosen to suck up to the islamothugs - at home juast as they have in the Middle East (where they are more threatening to the IAF than they arfe to Hizballah!). This of course will only encourage the islamothugs.
I pray that the DEFENDANT is eventually exonerated - just as Dreyfus was.
A SMOKING GUN
The truth is that there are no 'Palestinian people' and that there is no such country or territory as 'Palestine.' The 'Palestinians' are a fiction that was created by the Arabs to oppose Zionism.
In order to maintain the fiction that there is a 'Palestinian' people who exist to lay claim to the land of Israel, it is necessary to keep Arabs who claim to have roots in 'Palestine' - and their progeny - imprisoned in refugee camps. Nearly sixty years after the War of Independence ended, the 'refugees' continue to multiply, languishing in 'camps' maintained by a corrupt United Nations-sponsored bureaucracy, that costs nearly half a billion dollars per year (aside from other international aid given to the 'Palestinians').
What I'm about to present to you is not the first smoking gun that will prove to you that everything I said above is true. It's at least the second. The first smoking gun I know of was a statement made to a Dutch newspaper in March 1977 by Zuhair Mohsen, then a leader of one of the PLO factions. In an interview with the Dutch newspaper Trouw, Mr. Mohsen explained the origin of the 'Palestinians.'

TET AND IRAQ: THE TRUE PARALLELS
I POSTED ON TET AND IRAQ ON JANUARY 15, 2006. (More about the true parallels between the "anti-war" Left THEN & NOW HERE and HERE and HERE.)
Tthe effort to paint Iraq as an unwinnable quagmire and a mistake is being done by the very same Left-wing dominated MSM which propagandized for the Vietnamese Marxist tyrants in 1968. Their deceitful and defeatist efforts are NOT analogical; they are indentical! Which is why I say - over and over: To defeat the enemy abroad we have to defeat the Left at home.
UPDATE: Popinjay adds: I urge you to read this interview from Front Page Magazine back in the Spring of 2004 with a former North Vietnamese Colonel. It will open your eyes. The terrorists are not fools. They read the newspapers, they know the drill. Propaganda is the key.

BBC ENDORSES TERROR-APPEASING THAI JUNTA
Already there are signs of a change in policy from that of ousted Prime Minister Thaksin Shinawatra. The new government has signalled a willingness to talk to the Islamic rebels who are behind the violence - something Mr Thaksin always refused to do.So, these Leftists who run the BBC - (and who tirelessly run biased propaganda for anti-Semitic jihadists in the Middle East) - are now openly and explicity praising miltary juntas which appease jihadoterrorists in SE Asia. This once again demostrates the very deep affinity that Leftists have with jihadism: Both are elitist and anti-individualist, and both are pro-statist utopianistic. They use each other, and that's why I have often said: to defeat the jihadist enemy abroad we must defeat theLeftist enemy at home. The Leftists who dominate the MSM are Public Enemy #1.
10/19/06 UPDATE: MORE PROOF APPEASEMENT DOESN'T WORK:
Gunmen attack military station insouthern Thailand -I wonder if and when the MSM will report these islamoterrorist attacks - and how they will blame Bushitler and the Joooooooze?!
A group of gunmen attacked a military station in southern province of Yala Wednesday morning, killing one soldier and injuring another four, a military source told Xinhua. The attack took place ... in northeastern Yala, one of the three Muslim-dominant southernmost provinces in Thailand, where insurgency-related violence has claimed more than 1,700 lives since it reemerged in January 2004. ... In nearby Pattani province, suspected insurgents burned a strategically located police outpost with Molotov cockails in Waeng district late Tuesday night.
ROVE PREDICTS GOP WILL HOLD CONGRESS

Bottom-line: If the GOP gets out the vote, then the GOP wins. Heavy voting will be good for the GOP. Proof of this is LIKELY is the fact that voter turnout in primary contests this year - for both parties - were historically LOW; in fact the lowest ever. If Dems were "energized", then the turnout would've been higher. AND ANOTHER THING: Low gas prices and a high stock market - though good for the nation - are bad for the Democrats. Too bad: boo-freakin-hoo.
DEMOCRAT CATCH-PHRASE - "THE COMMON GOOD" - IS CODE FOR HIGHER TAXES AND MORE SOCIALISM, MORE STATISM
FLASHBACK 2004: NEWSMAX:"Ned Lamont uses it in his Connecticut Senate race. President Clinton is scheduled to speak on the idea in Washington this week. Bob Casey Jr., Pennsylvania candidate for Senate, put it in the title of his talk at The Catholic University of America - then repeated the phrase 29 times. The term is "common good," and it's catching on as a way to describe liberal values and reach religious voters who rejected Democrats in the 2004 election. "It's a core value that we think organizes the entire political agenda for progressives," said John Halpin, senior fellow at the Center for American Progress."What would Hitler have to say about that? We don't need to guess. The term can be translated into German as "Gemeinnutz" and that lovable German-speaking rogue used the term a lot -- as encapsulating what HE stood for: "Gemeinnutz vor Eigennutz!" was one of his great slogans ("Common use before personal use!", literally). And who preceded Hitler in such ideas? Friedrich Engels (Karl Marx's co-author) at one stage ran a publication called Gemeinnuetziges Wochenblatt ("Common-use Weekly"). The Democrats sure make it clear where they fit into history. [Umph added.]
Sen. Clinton exposed her socialist agenda during a speech Monday in San Francisco (which the Associated Press dubbed the "leftiest big city on the Left Coast"). But don't take our word for it. We'll go straight to the horse's mouth. "Many of you are well enough off that ... the tax cuts may have helped you. We're saying that for America to get back on track, we're probably going to cut that short and not give it to you," she said at a fund-raiser for radical Sen. Barbara Boxer. "We're going to take things away from you on behalf of the common good," the former first lady admitted.Conservatives - and libertarians - think YOU know what is good for YOU, and the State should BUTT OUT! Or, as Reagan always used to say, "You know how to spend your money better than the government knows how to spend YOUR money." And the Bush tax cuts - just like the Reagan tax cuts before them - proved that this moral good is also good for the economy.
GORBACHEV: "BORDER FENCE IS LIKE BERLIN WALL"
Former Soviet President Mikhail Gorbachev told a group in Texas that the proposed 700-mile U.S.-Mexico border fence reminds him of the Berlin Wall. Construction of the security fence to limit illegal immigration was approved by Congress earlier this month.
According to the Midland Reporter-Telegram, Gorbachev — recalling President Reagan's famous Cold War demand, "Mr. Gorbachev, tear down this wall" — said America seems to have forgotten its history. "You remember President Reagan standing in Berlin and saying, 'This wall should be torn down'? Now the United States seems to be building almost the Wall of China between itself and this other nation with which it has been associated for many decades and has had cooperation and interaction with," Gorbachev said.
First off, there's one very very very very very very very very VERY big difference between the Berlin Wall and our wall (which we'll probably never build). The Berlin Wall was used to keep an oppressed people from fleeing their country, not to keep people from coming in.
Second, never ever use Ronald Reagan to defend your viewpoint, Gorby; in fact, don't even utter his name, you're not worthy.
IT'S NOT ABOUT TERRITORY - IT'S ABOUT ISRAEL'S EXISTENCE
A survey by the Al-Mustaqabal Research Institute shows that 64.1% of the 'Palestinians' are not willing to agree to the Saudi initiative, which calls for Israel to leave Judea and Samaria, for a 'Palestinian'
ISRAEL IS PREPARING A MAJOR INCURSION INTO GAZA
NOW, COMES THIS ITEM FROM THE JPOST:HAARETZ: ... Egypt threatened Meshal that if an agreement for prisoner release is not reached by the end of Ramadan - the Muslim month of fast that ends October 22 - the Hamas leader would be held responsible for a wide-scale Israeli military attack in the Gaza Strip.I think this might be a good interim deal - since all deals with jihadists must be considered hudnas. There's lots more to the deal (so RTWT) - and some doubts whether Hamas will even agree to it (since it overtly casts the state of Israel as an entity with rights). Time will tell.
I think the Egyptian timeline is really a DEADLINE from Israel. Stay tuned... [Umph added]
IDF preparing for large-scale incursion into the Gaza StripI think this Gaza incursion - which, like the Lebanese incursion, has the tacit approval of Israel's Arab neighbors (who fear Iran, and its proxies Hizballah and Hamas, more than they fear Israel) - will occur on or around the end of Ramadan - 10/23, exactly as Egypt warmed. And once again, my analysis (and I was the one of only 3 bloggers in the blogsphere to post on it - and one of those linked to me!) was right: IT WAS A DEADLINE FROM ISRAEL. Stay tuned...
With Kassams still being fired at the western Negev and Hamas claiming to be building up an army, the IDF has set in motion preparations for a massive ground incursion into the Gaza Strip, one that senior officers in the Southern Command claim will be "larger than ever before."

LIEBERMAN ON BOLTON: SPEAKING TRUTH TO POWER
"I see no reason not to be for Bolton," Lieberman told a meeting of the Daily News Editorial Board. "Based on his capabilities - and now based on his performance - I believe Bolton is well-qualified," he said. "I think he's been a good negotiator and a good spokesman. He deserves to have a vote. I think he deserves to be confirmed."JOE IS OBVIOUSLY NOT SUCKING UP TO THE LOONY LEFT. His primary loss has truly liberated him, freed him to simply call'em like he sees'em. BRAVO JOE! (Complete round-up HERE.)
GUATEMALA, VENEZUELA DEADLOCK IN BID FOR U.N. SEAT

Bloomberg:
Guatemala, while continuing to lead Venezuela, failed to win enough support in the United Nations General Assembly to secure a Latin American seat on the Security Council after two days and 22 rounds of voting.
Needing 120 votes, or two-thirds of the 179 member governments that cast ballots, Guatemala received 102 votes and Venezuela got 77 in the General Assembly. Twelve of the UN's 192 countries abstained and one didn't vote in the final round today. "There is no way out as of now,'' Indian Ambassador Nirupam Sen said.
"It can only emerge after a few more rounds and we get really sick of it. There is some discussion on the margins of a compromise candidate.''
ARE MUSLIM WOMEN COMMITTING SUICIDE FOR "FAMILY HONOR"?
As long as Muslims tolerate the systematic abuse of women, there should not be much value placed in appeasement or "coexistence" with them in the name of multiculturalism or anything else.
These systematic human rights abuses violate the UN Charter; nations which tolerate them should be sanctioned by the UN or expelled. Swedes must demand a halt to this practice, or join the ranks of shameless dhimmis who are, in effect, accessories to mass murder.
More on "honor suicides" HERE (SFGATE) and HERE (NYTIMES) and HERE (an article from the WASHPOST - which PREDATES 9/11!).
THE BOTTOM-LINE ON TODAY'S DEMOCRAT PARTY
FRENCH SOCIALIST PRESIDENTIAL CANDIDATES TO DEBATE
Three candidates vying for the French Socialist Party's nomination in next year's presidential election are to take part in a televised debate. Former Environment Minister Segolene Royal, the front-runner, will face former Finance Minister Dominique Strauss-Kahn and ex-PM Laurent Fabius. Thursday's televised debate will be the first of three between the contenders. The Socialists' candidate, to be chosen in November, is likely to face current Interior Minister Nicolas Sarkozy. Mr Sarkozy is the leader of the conservative UMP party. This strikes me as less than an exercize in futility. It's like midshipmen arguing in an sinking lifeboat as their ship is sinking, too. France is in BIG trouble and returning to the discredited and failed policies of SOCIALISM will only make things worse. Of course, given the idiotic structure of French politics and elections, this may very well happen.
NEXT THEY'LL COLLECT PENNIES IN LITTLE BLUE BOXES

When I was a child, we all had little blue boxes from the Jewish National Fund (JNF). You'd put your pennies in the blue box, and eventually you'd save up enough to plant a tree in Israel. You'd send the money to the JNF and they would plant a tree in Israel and send you a nice certificate saying that you'd planted a tree in Israel.
For many years now, the 'Palestinians' have been trying to adopt the Israeli narrative as their own (in keeping with the Muslim tradition of trying to coopt other religions' holy sites as their own - see the Temple Mount, the Church of the Ascension in Nazareth, and various Hindu sites in India). The latest part of the Israeli narrative that they have adopted is planting trees.
A 'respected' British current affairs magazine, which actually looks like a fairly right-wing magazine based on its table of contents, is now making all of you a special offer. If you take out a one-year subscription to the New Statesman for only 78 British pounds, you can join the Trees for Life Campaign and sponsor the planting of three new olive trees in 'Palestine.'

CASE CLOSED: NOAA OFFERS PROOF MAN-MADE GLOBAL WARMING IS TOTAL BS
The September 2006 temperature for the contiguous United States (based on preliminary data) was 0.7 degrees F (0.4 degrees C) below the 20th century average of 65.4 degrees F (18.6 degrees C).Er, um... not just cooler than last year, BUT COOLER THAN THE AVERAGE TEMPEATURE FOR THE LAST CENTURY! Well, er, um... if man-made "greenhouse" gases caused global-warming, then this would be IMPOSSIBLE - because man-made gases are steadily increasing but OBVIOUSLY global temeraptures ARE NOT. Case closed.

POPE RECONFIRMS HE WILL VISIT TURKEY
The Vatican on Monday officially confirmed that Pope Benedict will visit Turkey at the end of November, a trip that had been put into doubt by Muslim anger over controversial comments he made about Islam. ... The main purpose of the visit is to meet in Istanbul -- the former Constantinople -- with Ecumenical Patriarch Bartholomew, spiritual head of the world's Orthodox Christians. ... But the issue of Christian unity -- although still the main topic of the trip -- has been largely overshadowed by the worldwide controversy that followed his September 12 lecture at Regensburg University in his native Germany.I predict that the Turkish reaction to his visit will be quite mixed - to say the least - and this will reconfirm what most of us Hawks think about the the dire state of Islam today.
In the lecture, he quoted 14th-century Byzantine Emperor Manuel II Palaeologus who spoke of the Prophet Mohammad's "command to spread by the sword the faith he preached". ... Since the speech, the Pope or Vatican officials have said at least a dozen times that it has been misunderstood. ... Some of the strongest criticism of the speech came from Turkey, where Turkish nationalists and Islamic activists have pushed for the trip to be canceled.
This will, in turn, bring more clarity to the GWOT, by exposing the fanaticism of one of the most liberal of secular Muslim states - (which is growing more fanatical each year). This additional clarity might aid Pope Benedict in his main mission: the re-awakening of Catholic Europe (which is literally fading away). TWO BIRDS WITH ONE STONE.
[ASIDE: How pitiful that 5 short years after 9/11 -- and just 32 months after 3/11 in Madrid, and just 15 months after 7/7 in London -- that much of the world is still in denial about the nature of the enemy and still need re-awakening!
(I think this is due to the fact that most of Europe, and most of America's Left, are stuck in "the quagmire of post modernism" (Tm) - an ideology taught at every major university, an ideology which has brainwashed several generations into believing the West is a menace to humanity and the environment, and that the USA is the chief menace since WW1.)]
The Left Worries About "The Christian Taliban" While A Real Regime Of Religious Fanatics Threatens
It is true that we are at war right now. Not just a traditional war of guns and tanks, but a cultural war is afoot as well. When President Bush said "they hate us for our freedom," I think he could have been talking about this enemy, the Christian Right. Strong statement, eh?
I had to get your attention, because I believe the Christian Right is a bigger threat to decent Americans than radical Islam. In fact, to many, the Christian Right is known as the American Taliban. I think that is a fair description.I am amused and nauseated at the same time. Let me show you what a real fantical religious regime sounds like:
Iranian President Mahmud Ahmadinejad says that when he delivered his speech at the UN General Assembly in September, he felt there was a light around him and that the attention of the world leaders in the audience was unblinkingly focused upon him. The claim has caused a stir in Iran, as a transcript and video recording of Ahmadinejad's comments have been published on an Iranian website, baztab.com. There are also reports that a CD showing Ahmadinejad making the comments also has been widely distributed in Iran. Is the Iranian president claiming to be divinely inspired?
Prague, 29 November 2005 (RFE/RL) -- According the report by baztab.com, President Ahmadinejad made the comments in a meeting with one of Iran's leading clerics, Ayatollah Javadi Amoli.Ahmadinejad said that someone present at the UN told him that a light surrounded him while he was delivering his speech to the General Assembly. The Iranian president added that he also sensed it. "He said when you began with the words 'in the name of God,' I saw that you became surrounded by a light until the end [of the speech]," Ahmadinejad appears to say in the video. "I felt it myself, too. I felt that all of a sudden the atmosphere changed there, and for 27-28 minutes all the leaders did not blink."
Ahmadinejad adds that he is not exaggerating. "I am not exaggerating when I say they did not blink; it's not an exaggeration, because I was looking," he says. "They were astonished as if a hand held them there and made them sit. It had opened their eyes and ears for the message of the Islamic Republic."
According to the Iranian media, Mr Ahmadinejad said he had inspirational links to God, and went on to say that if you were a true believer, God would show you miracles. Then the Iranian president said Mr Bush was similar to him. According to Mr Ahmadinejad, the US president also receives inspiration - but it is from Satan. The Left is in deep denial - about the bankruptcy of their own ideology, and about the real danger presented by islamofascism.
He repeated: "Satan inspires Mr Bush."
NOKO'S NUKE TEST CONFIRMED. WHEN WILL THEY CONFIRM THAT IRANIANS WERE PRESENT?
Air samples gathered last week contain radioactive materials that confirm that North Korea conducted an underground nuclear explosion, National Intelligence Director John Negroponte’s office said Monday.By the end of July, the US confirmed that Iranians were present for the July 4th missile tests. So I ask, WERE THE IRANIANS THERE FOR THE NUKE BOMB TEST, TOO? I expect we will find out in another two weeks, or so. If they were, this would be FINAL PROOF that the "axis of evil" is not merely an oft debated rehotrical flourish, but the simple truth.
VENEZUELA STUMBLES IN BID FOR U.N. SEAT
From the Financial Times:
Venezuelan president Hugo Chávez on Monday appeared headed for a personal political defeat at the hands of US-backed Guatemala in his long-held goal to win a temporary seat at the United Nations Security Council.
Guatemala, which has never before held a non-permanent seat on the Security Council, beat Venezuela by 109 votes to 76 in a first round of voting at the General Assembly, and extended its lead to 114 votes versus 74 in the second round, and 116-70 in the third.
But in a fourth vote, Guatemala slipped back to 110 votes, while Venezuela rose back up to 75. Further rounds of voting were postponed until the afternoon.
While Guatemala had not yet garnered the two-thirds of votes it needed to win, as of Monday mid-day in New York, its larger-than-expected lead was a serious blow to the Venezuelan government.
DEMOCRATS AND REPUBLICANS: WHO SUPPORTS ISRAEL MORE?
When I was growing up in the US, it was almost gospel that if you were Jewish you voted Democratic. The Democrats were the party that supported Israel (Harry Truman recognized the Jewish state over many objections) and the separation of church and state, while the Republicans were the party that was 'too Christian,' and was also considered to be less interested in Israel, or worse. Not to mention that most Jews agreed with the Democrats on most other 'social issues.'For me personally, this came home with the defeat of Senator Joe Lieberman in the Democratic primary in Connecticut by radical leftist Ned Lamont. Although I have voted Republican several times, I have never felt as uncomfortable with the Democratic party as I have felt since that primary. Jimmy Carter could be dismissed as a bitter one-term President. Lamont's ideological hold on the Democratic party (along with that of George Soros and Michael Moore and others) cannot be dismissed.
Through a series of ads in Jewish newspapers, an organization called the Republican Jewish Coalition is trying to make the Jewish community confront reality. I am reproducing some of the ads in this post.... Continue reading....

REID SHOULD RESIGN FROM DEMOCRAT LEADERSHIP IMMEDIATELY
I say: that hot seat should not be the seat of the Minority Leader: REID VIOLATED SENATE ETHICS. HIS BLATANT ARROGANCE TO AN AP REPORTER INVESTIGATING HIS VIOLATION IS UNFORGIVABLE. STONEWALLING IS NOT ACCEPTABLE.
REID SHOULD RESIGN AS MINORITY LEADER. THE DEMOCRAT CAUCUS SHOULD DEMAND IT.
OR IS THIS CORRUPT AND ARROGANT MAN THE BEST THE SENATE DEMOCRATS HAVE TO OFFER?
US Lost More Soldiers Under Bill Clinton Than We Have In Iraq
Before Americans hand the keys of government over to the Bush-haters and allow:
* Osama to make another fatwa tape on how weak the Americans are for running from Iraq
* Speaker Pelosi to follow through with the 9-11 Commission's recommendations after she voted them down in 2004
* Liberal democrats to spit on our soldiers as they drag them from Iraq
* Total chaos and death if Iraq is left to the militias
* Democrats to rewrite the books on this historic military campaign

It is, of course, a tragedy to lose the soldiers we have lost in Iraq. We ought to be thankful to them and their families for the sacrifices they were willing to make in the cause of freedom. But, the Left blows the numbers out of proportion to reality. In World War II we lost over 400,000 soldiers. In Vietnam we lost approximately 47,000 soldiers. In Iraq, we have lost 2,755 men in total.
"Violent acts are rising in an exponential proportion", says a speaker from the Police. "If this tendency continues, we will have 15% of the policemen hurt in a year".

REP. MURTHA BLASTS GOP FOR NAME-CALLING
WASHINGTON (AP) -- Rep. John Murtha, a decorated Marine veteran who favors withdrawing U.S. troops from Iraq, wrote an essay for Sunday's Washington Post blasting Republicans for referring to him and other Iraq war opponents as "Defeatocrats."
OLD LEFTIST LIE RECYCLED BY AP: "BUSH CHANGING REASONS FOR IRAQ WAR"
Initially, the rationale was specific: to stop Saddam Hussein from using what Bush claimed were the Iraqi leader's weapons of mass destruction or from selling them to al-Qaida or other terrorist groups.
Anyone who reads the speech Bush gave in September 2002 - (given before UNSCR #1441 was even introduced, and SIX MONTHS BEFORE THE WAR) - or who reads the UNSCR #1441 (UNANIMOUSLY PASSED by the UNSC), OR WHO READS THE CONGRESSIONAL BILL AUTHORIZING THE WAR - (which passed overwhelmingly) - will see that ALL THESE REASONS WERE COMPLETELY SPELLED OUT FROM THE VERY START. YUP: From the very start there were more than TWO dozen reasons Bush said Saddam was a threat and why regime change was important. Heck: it had been official USA policy UNDER CLINTON!
FACT: BUSH USED 27 REASONS TO JUSTIFY ATTACKING SADDAM --- BEFORE ATTACKING HIM! EXCERPT:
If it seems that there have been quite a few rationales for going to war in Iraq, that’s because there have been quite a few – 27, in fact, all floated between Sept. 12, 2001, and Oct. 11, 2002, according to a new study from the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign.ALL AP is proving - once again - is that they are a Left-wing dominated propaganda organization carrying water for the Democrat Party. AND THEY ARE LYING SCUM.
(BTW: This LIE is as big as the LIE that 650,000 Iraqis have died as a result of the war since 2003 - another example of the Left using LIES and PROPAGANDA to try to effect the election. They do it so much and so often that we should stop calling it an October SURPRISE! It's typical behavior from them. REMEMBER RATHERGATE?!?! Sheesh.)
[More proof UNSCR was violated - and war legal and justified AND NECESSARY on that basis alone - HERE.]
UPDATE: 12 HOURS later and POWER LINE agrees - (without giving you ALL the links and documentation which proves it!).

FACT: DEFEATISM HAS NEVER LED TO A SINGLE VICTORY
DEFEATISTS who claim Israel was defeated by Hizballah; (only that ain't true). DEFEATISTS who claim that we are losing in Iraq and Afghanistan; (only that ain't true). DEFEATISTS who claim that our economy is headed for a crash because of the Bush tax cuts or because we're in a real estate bubble (and it's gonna pop), or because of the high cost of a gallon of gasoline; (only none of these are true).
And now, there are DEFEATISTS who claim that the GOP will be wiped out in November; (they cite polls which are biased and distorted). These DEFEATISTS are as wrong as the others. That's not wishful thinking; that's a fact.
By election day: (1) the DJIA will be over 12,000; (2) unemployment will remain at its current historically low level; (3) gasoline will be cheaper then than even now - and now it is cheap; (4) USA casualties in Iraq and Afghanistan will remain low and enemy casualties will remain high; (5) Iraqi civilian deaths and LOCAL MUSLIM SECTARIAN strife (something which has been common to Islam for about 1350 years, and which was recently re-ignited in Iraq by deliberate provocation of al Qaeda) will continue - though on a reduced level; and (6) the GOP will work hard to get out the vote, and the complacent defeatists on the Left will not.
That's why the Democrats should fare as well nationwide as "Lefty Lamont" will in Connecticutt.
But if you want higher taxes, slower growth, less free trade; and if you want less counter-attacking in the GWOT and more appeasing of the enemy; and if you want more kow-towing to the French and to the UN; and if you want no NSA intercept progam and no Patriot Act, and no fence between us and Mexico, and if you want the USA to be harder on Israel and softer on Hamas and Hizballah - THEN BY ALL MEANS, STAY HOME - OR VOTE DEMOCRAT! It's the same thing.
10/15/06 UPDATE: ROVE AND BUSH AGREE WITH ME; (WASHPOST):
Amid widespread panic in the Republican establishment about the coming midterm elections, there are two people whose confidence about GOP prospects strikes even their closest allies as almost inexplicably upbeat: President Bush and his top political adviser, Karl Rove. And that's why WE WILL WIN! Now stop yer whining and help GOTV!
Some Republicans on Capitol Hill are bracing for losses of 25 House seats or more. But party operatives say Rove is predicting that, at worst, Republicans will lose only 8 to 10 seats -- shy of the 15-seat threshold that would cede control to Democrats for the first time since the 1994 elections and probably hobble the balance of Bush's second term.
In the Senate, Rove and associates believe, a Democratic victory would require the opposition to "run the table," as one official put it, to pick up the necessary six seats -- a prospect the White House seems to regard as nearly inconceivable. ... The official White House line of supreme self-assurance comes from the top down. Bush has publicly and privately banished any talk of losing the GOP majorities, in part to squelch any loss of nerve among his legions. Come January, he said last week, "We'll have a Republican speaker and a Republican leader of the Senate." ...
To Rove and the small cadre of operatives who have been at his side throughout the administration -- including Republican National Committee Chairman Ken Mehlman and White House political director Sara Taylor -- confidence flows from a conviction that a political operation that has produced three consecutive national victories is capable of one more, despite voter disaffection with Iraq and GOP scandals in Washington. Republican officials say the three closely coordinate strategy, with constant e-mails and a daily conference call. They see this familiarity -- in many respects it is the same team leading GOP strategy as in the past two elections -- as one advantage they have over Democrats, whose leaders on Capitol Hill and national party officials have been at odds on strategy.
So far, there have been few surprises in the Bush-Rove playbook, which seems little changed over the past four years. It includes tapping the powers of incumbency, mobilizing Christian conservatives and others in the GOP base, and seeking to polarize the electorate around national security and taxes. A huge effort to raise money by Bush, Vice President Cheney and first lady Laura Bush seems to be paying off: By Taylor's calculation, the various GOP campaigns and party committees will have a $55 million money advantage in the final three weeks of the campaign.
The RNC is also planning another big get-out-the-vote drive in the final three days before the elections. Rove believes that many of the polls in individual House and Senate races understate what he expects to be a GOP advantage in turnout, according to one party strategist who has heard him discuss the midterms.
UPDATE #2: THE NYTIMES seems to agree with me and Rove:
Democrats Have Intensity, but G.O.P. Has Its Machine"If there's a problem it's with GOP DEFEATISM - THE NYTIMES:
... the latest New York Times/CBS News poll, conducted Oct. 5-8, 46 percent of Democrats said they were more enthusiastic about voting this year than in previous Congressional elections, compared with 33 percent of Republicans.SO STOP WHINING: IN YOUR HEART YOU KNOW THE GOP IS BETTER. GET OUT AND VOTE GOP! Or sit back and cry when they swear in SPEAKER PELOSI!
RICE'S REMARKS TO THE AMERICAN TASK FORCE ON 'PALESTINE': THE MORE I READ THE SICKER I GET
Continue reading here."I should never have grown up in segregated Birmingham, Alabama to become the secretary of state of the United States of America," Rice said, adding that eventually, once these visions do come true, "we wonder why did anyone ever doubt that it was possible."
Rice emphasized US support to the Palestinian people, by increasing the American foreign aid to the Palestinians to $468 million, and by putting in place an international mechanism which will allow transfer of financial assistance to the Palestinians without going through the Hamas government. [Money is fungible and Fatah is no better than Hamas. CiJ]
LEFTIST IS FRONTRUNNER IN ECUADOR RACE
Name a Latin American politician who frequently resorts to anti-American rhetoric and refers to President Bush as a devil. For those tempted to say Hugo Chavez, here's another hint: He's also the frontrunner in Ecuador's presidential election on Sunday.
Economist Rafael Correa, tall, charismatic and youthful at 43, is surging into the lead as a fresh-faced outsider in what could be the latest gain for Latin America's leftward shift. But he faces a strong challenge from Alvaro Noboa, a banana billionaire who is also pushing a populist line, but from the capitalist end."We will do away with the lying oligarchy!" Correa shouted Thursday night, getting soaked as he closed his campaign in a drenching downpour with some 3,000 supporters on a blocked-off avenue. "We will take it in the first round, the first round!"
Funny, that sounds very similar to the what the Nazis said about the Jews. The more things change...
Leftist Imperialism: Ban For Boy With Two Snacks
"The policy of extending the rule or authority of an empire or nation over foreign countries, or of acquiring and holding colonies and dependencies."
A boy aged 10 has been banned from his school dining hall because his packed lunch broke the government's healthy eating guidelines. The father of Ryan Stupples is protesting after his son was forced to eat in the headmaster's office at Lunsford primary school, Larkfield, Kent, because his lunch contained two snacks, instead of one.
Ryan's lunch consisted of a sandwich, fruit, fromage frais, cake, mini cheese biscuits and a bottle of water. The cake and the biscuits broke the snack limit. They were discovered when a teacher checked his lunch box. Michael Stupples, 41, said: "What 10-year-old boy won't get upset when he's out of a dining hall in front of everyone and made to eat his lunch in the head teacher's office?"
Malcolm Goddard, the headmaster, said: "We take healthy eating very seriously and everyone is aware of our new policies."
THE ASTUTE BLOGGERS WEEKLY R&R REVIEW - week #3
There's more to life than war, taxes and politics - and a lot of it's more fun, too! That's why every WEEKEND, here at THE ASTUTE BLOGGERS, we post our opinions on some of the cultural things we're into, things we think you might also find entertaining, enriching, and stimulating. Good for "Rest & Relaxation" - "R&R".Reliapundit: THE REVOLT
Please check it out every week - and tell your friends. We just might turn you on to something cool. After all, the arts - ALL ARTS, not just fine arts - are a big part of what our liberty is for, and what we're fighting to defend!
This is a memoir of the liberation of Palestine from imperial British rule and it's ascension to independent Jewish statehood by the brilliant and brave leader of the Irgun - Menachem Begin, (who later became president of Israel and the man who made peace with Egypt). The beginning of the book is especially significant - in terms of contemporary headlines, and because of the stories of Begin's time in Soviet concentration camps: these stories are heart-breaking and incredibly inspiring. And they're why I think everyone should read this book. Begin's rendering of this early part of his sojourn truly reveals the ineffable heart and soul of Zionism. (I will try to post an incredible excerpt later.) Begin dedicates this book - more or less - to a new creature born in the era following WW2 and during the war for Israeli independence - the fighting Jew. May this creature never disappear from the face of the Earth.
There's been a conspicuous absence of pro-American movies during the current war. What do we see instead? In Flightplan early on we suspect that Middle Eastern-looking men are the bad guys; when they're not, we're supposed to feel guilty for this. Syriana weaves a vague and silly Michael Moore plot which is best summed up simply as "U.S., boooo!" I got excited when I saw the first previews for Kingdom of Heaven. That lasted about 10 minutes, until I found out the movie was about noble Muslims defending the Holy Land from the crude, boorish, evil Christian crusaders, along with an absurd Rainbow Coalition that never existed in history. But it should have, according to Hollywood. Well, at least it got good reviews from Muslims. Everybody was happy under Islam. This is what Hollywood gives us. Compare this with Hollywood's contribution during WWII. Clearly, Hollywood needs to be drafted.Pastorius: What do you get when you mix the Who, MC5 and Aretha Franklin? You get one of the most rockin' bands of our time: The Bellrays:
I liked the remake of Walking Tall they made with the Rock. Guy comes back from the war, things in his town are rotten, he picks up a 2X4 and cleans things up. We need more like that, but even more on point. As long as Hollywood doesn't seem capable of writing anything original anymore, here's the one film I would love for them to remake: Sam Pekinpah's Straw Dogs. Pekinpah has a reputation for making violent films, and this one is no exception. In fact, it is probably more violent than Wild Bunch, and more to the point it perfectly captures Pekinpah's philosophy of violence, as in, it's part of the world, and sometimes you have to resort to it. For anyone reading this blog, I don't need to explain how the various events in the movie are redolent in our current situation, and according the the views that most of us share. Simply, if you haven't seen it, go get it right now, and you will thank me.
Pauline Kael of the NYT called it a "fascist" movie. Pauline Kael is the person who expressed shock that Nixon had won, because "everyone she knew" voted for McGovern. Ha ha. Pauline Kael would probably be among the legions who call LGF "fascist." I think that's enough said. Just rent it, I'm not even going to give away anything about the plot. It has Dustin Hoffman. It's brilliant and has the best tension-build up ever, exploding in violence in the end. It's among my all-time top movies. The DVD is available in the Criteron collection. Oh yes, don't rent from Blockbuster, it will be the R version, make sure you get the unrated or original version.

THE BANKRUPTCY OF THE LEFTIST TALKRADIO NETWORK "AIR AMERICA" WAS DUE TO THE BANKRUPTCY OF LEFTISM
Your comment ... indirectly illustrates perfectly the mindset of the Air America crowd. You or I might think about starting a radio program devoted to a particular political polarity in, say, Austin. It may do very well in Austin at which time we or someone else might say "lets see how it plays in Muncie, etc." and on and on until we have expanded nationwide into markets where the show does well, like Limbaugh and the like.
The Air America crowd says "we'll build a nationwide network and keep pouring money into it no matter how few people listen and it will thus be a success", just like a government program. What they have found, however, is that, unlike with a government program, the money does not automatically keep pouring in. There are only so many poor childrens' piggy banks that can be raided and even liberal investors want a rate of return eventually.
ALSO: Leftists in the USA have NO NEED for Left-wing talk-radio; the Left already controls the MSM and already gets all the biased and distorted partisan news they want! It was due to this overwhelming Left-wing bias in the MSM and the dirth of objective right-of-center news that the Right migrated to radio.

Is North Korea China's "Terrorist Proxy"?
North Korea is to China and Russia, as Hezballah/Hamas is to Iran and Syria. With Israel being the target through manipulative methods of Iran and Syria. The de-nuclearization and removal of American troops from South Korea is China and Russia’s target.
The diplomatic game is being played instead of black and white being pointed out. The world and the Liberal left wanted us to go to the UN for Iraq. We did, when we did not have to or should have, but we get no appreciation from the world or the Left for doing that. We go to the UN over North Korea and the world, the Left and even Kofi Annan says ‘go talk to North Korea’, don’t go to the UN. What is not being said on the world stage is China, Russia, and North Korea want the American problem to go away i.e. troops, bases, and American nukes on the Korean Penisula.
All of the nations at play, the UN, the Left and the media paint this as an American problem of not supplying North Korea with food and oil. Any nation can do that, that is why it is not a food or oil issue. When a nation wants to be an enemy of the US then they pull the UN card of diplomacy and protection. When the US pulls the UN card of diplomacy and participation we are told ‘sorry, we don’t accept that card’. The UN has become a tool of diplomacy against us, but that is another story. China and Russia need to be called on the carpet and the US needs to point out their involvement. We ignored Iran and Syria’s use of Hezballah and Hamas for years and now we finally point it out. It is time to point out China and Russia’s membership and participation in this manipulation.
After North Korea tested their bombs China was so quick to say ‘we support strong sanctions against North Korea’. We heard this in the MSM for three days. Then it was time for China and Russia to put rubber to the road ...
... and, and, and, we'll just see what China and Russia do. In fact, supposedly, we'll be seeing the vote tomorrow. What do you think will happen?
Condi Rice does a James Baker imitation
Rice spoke to a dinner marking the third anniversary of the American Task Force on 'Palestine,' or as the group's own web site called it, "ATFP's first annual gala honoring 'Palestinian Americans.'" One of the honorees at the dinner was Professor Mujid Kazimi of MIT, and his award was presented by 'Ambassador' Afif Safieh, "Chief Representative of the PLO Mission to the United States." In other words, Rice shared the podium with the purveyor of the following views:

AP: "2 Feet of Snow Falls on Western N.Y. " - I BLAME BUSH!
snowstorm left parts of the Great Lakes and Midwest blanketed with 2 feet of snow Friday morning, prompting widespread blackouts, closing schools and halting traffic. The snow downed scores of tree limbs and toppled power lines, leaving more than 220,000 customers without electricity in western New York.I blame "man-made" global warming. Er um I mean Bushhitlerburton and "Big Oil."
By early Friday, 14 inches of snow had been recorded at the Buffalo Niagara International Airport, with reports of 2 feet elsewhere, said Tom Paone, a meteorologist with the National Weather Service. The snowfall was expected to continue throughout the morning, he said.
On Thursday, 8.3 inches of heavy snow set the record for the ``snowiest'' October day in Buffalo in the 137-year history of the weather service, said meteorologist Tom Niziol. The previous record of 6 inches was set Oct. 31, 1917.

IF WE VOTE GOP, THEN WE WILL WIN!
WHEN THE DOW HITS 12000: I WILL BLAME BUSH!
Wall Street touched another new milestone Thursday, as the Dow industrials passed 11,900 for the first time en route to a new all-time closing high. The blue chip benchmark ended the session within 53 points of the 12,000 mark. Stronger-than-expected earnings reports and the moderate tone of the Federal Reserve's Beige Book report helped cheer investors.CNN MONEY: The world's most widely watched stock market gauge hit a new record trading high of 11,955.46, surpassing the previous record set Tuesday, and coming within 50 points of 12,000 - the next major milestone for the market.
Yet Bush and the GOP are not soaring at the polls. WHY?! ACE:
Striking distance. The economy's good. Gas prices are down. The deficit has been halved three years' ahead of Bush's schedule (which the liberals mocked as a fantasy; now they claim it was easy and inevitable). And yet... we're all acting as if the liberal critique of Republcians -- the GOP has destroyed the nation -- is, essentially, true. ...My advice: Don't take the trolls or the MSM seriously. The economy is good. AND: We are winning the GWOT. SO: GET OUT AND VOTE GOP.
ACE COMMENTER/SOMEONE: I blame the wierd "taking trolls seriously" phase here.
OR... if you want higher taxes, and if you want to cede the defense of the free world to the UN, then by all means vote for the Dems.
SEGOLENE ROYAL IS AN OLD-FASHIONED SOCIALIST WHO WILL MAKE FRANCE WORSE
UK TIMES: I'm not a Blair. I'm a real socialist says RoyalThe favourite to be France's next President is mending fences with the Left: SÉGOLÈNE ROYAL is an admirer of Tony Blair. But as her bid to win the Socialist nomination for France’s presidency gathers pace she has begun to make clear that she remains an old-style leftist. ... “The capitalists have to be frightened,” she told The Times. ... "We need to tax businesses who want to move out jobs and tax their products when they re-import them.” ...SHEESH! What year does she think it is... 1968?! Sarkozy is right to admonish the French people for disliking the Anglo-American model, after all IT'S WORKING: the USA and the UK - and Ireland -- and EVERY other nations which has employed Regansesque/Thatchyerian policies based on Hayekian principles and which have cut taxes and become more pro-business - more pro-"Capitalist" - has improved its economy and the basic living standards for ALL its people. It's the heavily socialized/nationalized/statist economies which are in ruins. EVEN CHINA LEARNED THIS LESSON IN 1979. Apparently, the continental European Left hasn't. Pity.
THE UN PROVES ONCE AGAIN THAT IT'S A USELESS AND AMORAL DISTRACTION WHICH SERVES THE ENEMY
AP: Russia and China on Thursday opposed tough sanctions the U.S. wants to impose against North Korea this week for its claimed nuclear test ... China ... opposes any mention of the U.N. Charter's Chapter 7, which authorizes punishments including economic sanctions, naval blockades and military actions. ... Beijing and Moscow also object to the wide scope of financial sanctions and a provision authorizing the inspection of cargo going in and out of North Korea, council diplomats said, speaking on condition of anonymity because talks are private.Between its inability to act on North Korea and Darfur, (and its RUSH to save Hizballah jihadoterrorists from imminent destruction), the UN has PROVEN that it's at best useless, and worse, probably an aid to the enemies of freedom, democracy, non-proliferation, and universal humans right; in other words: EVERYTHING THE UN WAS SUPPOSED TO STAND FOR.
It's time the USA withdrew all support for the UN, and asked them to relocate their HQ outside the USA. (They could sell it to Trump, for a BUNDLE: it would make a fine "WORLD CLASS" hotel/condo/marina/casino! And, I think it would contain more morality if he turned it into a whorehouse.)
