So I think there’s two things that matter for the progressive community. Number one, if we are to expand this electorate to win, the progressive community needs to solidly be on the side of immigrants, that we’ll expand and solidify the progressive coalition for the future…How many Congress critters are aware of the above? How many Congress critters CARE?
When you are in the middle of a fight for your life you will remember who was there with you. And immigrants count on progressives to be able to do that.
Number two. “We reform the immigration laws, it puts 12 million people on the path to citizenship and eventually voters”. Can you imagine if we have, even the same ratio, two out of three? If we have eight million new voters who care about …… and will be voting. We will be creating a governing coalition for the long term, not just for an election cycle…

In a 2012 census of 1,600 schools, it was found English-speaking children are now in a minority, with the figures particularly startling in the 14 inner London boroughs, where there were 98,000 non-native English speakers compared to 78,000 who could list the language as their number one.
Nationwide, there were 97 schools where the number of pupils speaking English as a mother tongue was fewer than one in 20 of the school population.
After London, Birmingham had the highest concentration of 'foreign' pupils, followed by Bradford and then Leicester.
Punjabi was the most widely-spoken first language.

The diversity event is apparently part of what USDA Secretary Tom Vilsack described in a memo sent to all agency employees as a “new era of Civil Rights” and “a broader effort towards cultural transformation at USDA.” In 2011 and 2012, the USDA paid Betances and his firm nearly $200,000 for their part in the “cultural transformation” program.

A 67-year-old Iraqi who has been living in the United States since the 1980s pleaded guilty to a federal conspiracy charge yesterday and admitted that he secretly served for more than a decade as an agent of the regime of Saddam Hussein.
Saubhe Jassim Al-Dellemy, who came to the United States as a student and became a permanent resident in 2000, was identified as an agent through documents recovered after the U.S. invasion of Iraq, prosecutors said. The recovery of such records has led to charges against at least a dozen Iraqi agents, according to the Justice Department.
Given the code name "Adam," Dellemy provided information to Iraq and its intelligence agency about the identities and activities of people and groups opposed to Hussein and his government, according to a factual summary that accompanied his plea agreement.

A fact sheet released this week from the U.S. State Department reported widespread fraud in the refugee program that has brought tens of thousands of people from Somalia and other African nations to the United States.Read the rest here.
The reported fraud spurred the State Department to suspend a humanitarian program in August which was supposed to reunite African "anchor" refugees already in the states with their family members who are still overseas.
DNA testing conducted earlier this year by the government to verify blood ties between anchor refugees and their supposed family members revealed that fewer than 20 percent of those checked could confirm their biological relationships, the fact sheet stated....

Among immigrants who have been here less than five years, 49 percent said they were thinking of returning home, while only 41 percent said they planned to remain in the United States.

More than three million Latin American immigrants in the United States, responding to the economic downturn and new uncertainties about their future, have stopped sending money home to their families in the last two years, according to a survey released on Wednesday by the Inter-American Development Bank in Washington.
Only 50 percent of some 18.9 million Latino immigrants in this country now send money regularly to relatives in their home countries, compared with 73 percent two years ago, the survey found.

With the immigration debate at a roar nationally, Villagran's case illustrates a moral and legal quandary. Locally, groups that oppose illegal immigration want the government to crack down on those in the country illegally and to punish employers who hire them. But many immigrants live in a complicated state of limbo. Physically but not legally in the United States, they are bound by federal and local laws, even when the two collide.In almost every story about any criminal, one can find something worthy of sympathy, I suppose. But do "a quandary" and "a paradox" excuse evasion of the law? In the many human-interest stories in the mainstream media, yes.

Remittances Drop as U.S. Jobs SlowOur government wouldn't put a stop to such money transfers. Our government wouldn't track those strip-mall storefronts executing the transfers to see how many illegal invaders were using the facilities to drain the U.S. economy. Even local governments would not enforce zoning regulations, thereby allowing 20+ immigrants to live in a single-family home. But economic reality has caused a slowdown in propping up the economy of Mexico.

A government minister has warned that inbreeding among immigrants is causing a surge in birth defects - comments likely to spark a new row over the place of Muslims in British society.I have some firsthand knowledge of the dangers of inbreeding. The maternal side of my family hails from East Tennessee, an area of the United States with a high percentage of inbreeding since the area was settled. When my mother was growing up, she saw evidence every day of the dangers of inbreeding. To the credit of my mother's family for many generations, members traveled to find their spouses, so as to avoid the results of first cousin to first cousin breeding. Spouses from the outside were not as easily acceptable by the hillbilly clans, but the result was not one since instance of genetic defect in the family!
Phil Woolas, an environment minister, said the culture of arranged marriages between first cousins was the “elephant in the room”. Woolas, a former race relations minister, said: “If you have a child with your cousin the likelihood is there’ll be a genetic problem.”
The minister, whose views were supported by medical experts this weekend, said: “The issue we need to debate is first cousin marriages, whereby a lot of arranged marriages are with first cousins, and that produces lots of genetic problems in terms of disability [in children].”
Woolas emphasised the practice did not extend to all Muslim communities but was confined mainly to families originating from rural Pakistan. However, up to half of all marriages within these communities are estimated to involve first cousins.

In most societies - thoughout all of human history, most people think that the "in-law" relationship is the most troublesome in their lives; (it's one of the most popular and enduring sources of humor; America's most popular TV comedy in decades - EVERYBODY LOVES RAYMOND - was based on it). WELL: Because of the preference and prevalence of endogamous matrimony many Arabs are so inter-married that NOT ONLY are they everybody's in-laws, every Arab is his own in-law! No wonder they're so effin' nuts! Heh!
