I feel that the River Thames will freeze over this year. it hasn't since the great winter of 1963.

On December 24, a research report from the South Korean Foreign Ministry Institute indicated that North Korea would carry out another nuclear bomb test after the beginning of the year. -- South Korean media reported earlier this month that the North was digging a tunnel in preparation for such a nuclear test.

At the same time, reports from inside Iran indicate that a team of Iranian nuclear scientists have been sent to North Korea and that the two governments have agreed on a joint nuclear test in North Korea with a substantial financial reward for the Kim Jong-Il government.

It is no secret that Iran and North Korea are collaborating in a ballistic missile program. The North Koreans provided Iran with the technology and know-how to build the Shahab-3 medium-range ballistic missile, which is a copy of the Nodong-1 missile. The Shahb- 3 missile has a range of 2,000 kilometers (1,240 miles) covering all of the U.S. military bases in the Middle East and the entire country of Israel.

Most alarming, recent WikiLeaks releases reveal that Iran obtained a cache of advanced missiles capable of carrying nuclear warheads (based on a Russian design) from North Korea. Now, for the first time, Iran has the capability to target every capital in Western Europe.

Not only are these two governments continuing to collaborate on the missile projects, they are also conspiring on Iran’s nuclear bomb development. This relationship has not only led to sharing data on previous nuclear tests by North Korea, but played a part in Iran’s capability to build the more advanced P2 centrifuges that produce 2.5 times more enriched uranium than the first generation P1 model.

The recent revelations about North Korea’s uranium enrichment plant also raise the possibility that North Korea is enriching uranium on Iran's behalf. Iran has always maintained that its nuclear program is for peaceful purposes; that it is their right to produce nuclear fuel for their nuclear power plants.

In order to avoid a possible military reaction by the West, Iran is working covertly with North Korea until such a time they are capable of weaponizing their ballistic missiles with nuclear warheads.

2011: THE GLOBAL RELIGIOUS WAR CONTINUES: COPTIC CHURCH BOMBED - 5 CHRISTIANS KILLED

At least five people were killed and 14 others injured early Saturday in an attack on a church in the northern Egyptian city of Alexandria, a security official told AFP.

The attack, apparently caused by a car bomb, took place as the faithful left the church in the Sidi Bechr district at around half past midnight on New Year's Day. The witnesses said a burnt-out car was in front of the entrance to the church.

Many Christians were demonstrating in front of a nearby mosque, the witnesses told AFP.

While it was not immediately known who was responsible for the blast, a group calling itself Al-Qaeda in Iraq had threatened the Egyptian Coptic Christians.

The bombing came almost two months to the day after an October 31 attack by militants on Our Lady of Salvation church in central Baghdad, which left the 44 worshippers, two priests and seven security forces members dead.

Iraq's interior ministry says 15 bombs were placed around homes in Christian areas of Baghdad. Eleven of the bombs exploded.

Church leaders are at a loss to explain the attacks, saying Iraqi Christians have no power and pose no threat.

Two months ago an attack on a church in Baghdad killed 56 people, including many in the congregation and two priests.

Many Christians have already fled Baghdad or left the country altogether.

After the rabbis’ letter called on Jews not to rent apartments to Arabs comes their wives’ turn: Twenty-seven prominent rabbis’ wives signed a letter distributed by the ‘Lehava’ organization calling on Jewish women not to date Arabs, work in places where Arabs are employed or volunteer for National Service with them.[...]

The letter stated that “there are quite a few Arab workers who use Hebrew names. Yusuf becomes Yossi, Samir becomes Sami and Abed becomes Ami. They seek your proximity, try to appeal to you and give you all the attention you could ask for, they actually know how be polite and act making you believe they really care…but their behavior is only temporary.

“As soon as they have in you in their grasp, in their village, under their complete control – everything becomes different. Your life will never be the same, and the attention you sought will be replaced with curses, physical abuse and humiliation.”

The letter further stated, “Your grandmothers never dreamed that one of their decedents would, by one act, remove future generations from the Jewish people. For you, for future generations, and so that you will never have to endure the terrible suffering, we appeal to you, begging, pleading, praying: Don’t date them, don’t work where they work and don’t perform National Service with them.”

Israel Today discovered a new movie set for release called "Miral" which, while it may not be the first hostile to Israel movie released in mainstream (for all I know, the Little Drummer Girl might've preceded it), it's certainly unfortunate that it may get that kind of distribution:

Scheduled for a March 2011 release, the new feature film “Miral” follows the turbulent life of a young Palestinian Arab girl who becomes involved in terrorism against Israel. It unabashedly demands sympathy for this girl and other Palestinian terrorists in their battle with a Jewish state that is portrayed as arbitrarily cruel and barbaric.

There is little surprise there, since the film is an adaptation of a book written by director Julian Schnabel’s new Palestinian Arab girlfriend, Rula Jabreal. In a series of interviews following screening of “Miral” at the Toronto and Venice film festivals, Schnabel, who is Jewish, acknowledged that it was not the film’s intent to give a comprehensive background to the conflict or present a “balanced” view.

Further evidence that the film is, as Schnable himself hinted, aimed at promoting the Palestinian narrative of the conflict is the fact that Vanessa Redgrave is given a cameo. Redgrave is famous for denouncing the “Zionist hoodlums” during a 1978 Academy Awards acceptance speech. Despite Redgrave’s minor role, her presence in the film is being used as part of the marketing campaign.

Miramax, in retrospect, was no biggie as a studio, and I don't feel sorry for them for losing it. While as for their new company, I think it's best left unaided.

Back in October 2009, I warned of a seismic transformation in internet regulation and free speech. Under the transnational-happy Obama administration, the U.S. relinquished control of the net at that time. ICANN ended its agreement with the U.S. government.

If not America, who? Now we know the answer to that. The new agreement gave other countries (including dictatorships and rogue nations) and the U.N. the ability to set internet use policies. At the time, I wrote, "[W]atch for Sharia law to find its way into this."

Well, that didn't take long. The ICANN action in September gave the Organization of Islamic Conference (OIC) and other unfriendly nations a prominent internet role -- something they never could get during the administration of George W. Bush.

Discovery Has "Potential to Position Israel as Natural Gas Exporting Nation"

JPost: Noble CEO: Leviathan is largest gas find in our history

Natural gas field found to be twice the size of Tamar; Noble COO says discovery has "potential to position Israel as natural gas exporting nation."

The natural gas reserves in the Leviathan structure total 16 trillion cubic feet of natural gas, based on preliminary results of the production tests received in the past few days. This was same amount estimated from a recent 3D seismic survey. The quantity found is double the gas reserves at Tamar. The results were reported Wednesday by Noble Energy Inc., which owns 39.66% of the prospect.

According to Noble Energy, "The well encountered a minimum of 220 feet (67 meters) of net natural gas pay in several subsalt Miocene intervals. Apparent reservoir quality is very good, and the intervals discovered are geologically similar to those intersected at Tamar."

Noble Energy CEO Charles Davidson said, "Leviathan is the latest major discovery for Noble Energy and is easily the largest exploration discovery in our history."

Noble Energy president and COO David L. Stover added, "This discovery has the potential to position Israel as a natural gas exporting nation. For nearly a year now, we have had a team evaluating market possibilities, which includes various pipeline and LNG options. It's our belief that the natural gas resources at Leviathan are sufficient to support one or more of the options being studied. We are excited to be leading the exploration and development in this new basin and look forward to determining the best development option."

Leviathan's Israeli partners are Delek Group Ltd. units Avner Oil and Gas LP and Delek Drilling LP (22.67% each), and Ratio Oil Exploration (1992) LP with 15%.

The results are from the electrical log tests, which were completed yesterday. The results almost precisely match the estimated announced on June 2, based on the 3D seismic survey. They come exactly one month after the Israeli partners reported signs of natural gas in the first target strata at a depth of 5,100 meters.

The drilling of the Leviathan 1 exploratory well was delayed by several weeks, which added at least $20 million to the drilling costs. The original estimate cost of the well was $150 million, and the cost of leasing the Sedco Express drilling platform from Transocean Inc. is more than $1 million a day.

Trading in the shares of the Israeli partners in Leviathan was suspended just before 2 pm today ahead of an "important announcement". Shares in the three partnerships rose by over 4% before trading was suspended.

Army Col. Viet Luong said that "to secure the border in the traditional sense" would "take an inordinate amount of resources." He said it also would require far more cooperation from the tribes inside Pakistan who often provide Taliban fighters safe passage.

Other senior U.S. military officials have said they hope the Pakistan military does more to shut down Taliban hideouts. But the U.S. has denied reports that American forces are pushing to expand special operations raids inside Pakistan's tribal areas to target militants.

"It's naive to say that we can stop . . . forces coming through the border," said Luong, who oversees troops in a part of eastern Afghanistan that includes the volatile Khost province and 261 kilometers of border.

Karl Popper, the late, great philosopher of science, noted that for something to be called scientific, it must be, as he put it, "falsifiable."

That is, for something to be scientifically true, you must be able to test it to see if it's false.

That's what scientific experimentation and observation do. That's the essence of the scientific method.

Unfortunately, the prophets of climate doom violate this idea. No matter what happens, it always confirms their basic premise that the world is getting hotter.

The weather turns cold and wet? It's global warming, they say. Weather turns hot? Global warming. No change? Global warming. More hurricanes? Global warming. No hurricanes? You guessed it.

Nothing can disprove their thesis. Not even the extraordinarily frigid weather now creating havoc across most of the Northern Hemisphere.

THAT'S WHY RATIONAL PEOPLE KNOW AGW IS BUNK.

I have long argued that appeasement is bad because it REWARDS and therefore ENCOURAGES more bad behavior.

The recent spate of letter bombs in Italy proves the point.

The anarchists in Greece - who are apparently behind the recent letter bombs - have been emboldened by the tepid response of the Free World to terrorists - from AL Qaeda to Kim Jong Il and Ahmadinejad the Somali Pirates - for the last decade.

If Bush has not been a weak and appeasing military leader, then he would have NUKED Tora Bora in October of 2001 - killing OBL and sending the correct message to anyone and everyone who would attack us.

Instead of continuing attacks and kidnappings etc - they would be appeasing us. A Somali Pirate capturing an America or an ally would APOLOGIZE and free him with gifts.

And Obama is even worse than Bush when it comes to appeasing: he just passed START which makes us weaker and GIVES Russia and Putin PARITY with us, when we might have maintained a HUGE ADVANTAGE INSTEAD.

This is lunacy and TREASON.

If we really want to end the Age of terror, then we must be willing to fight total war and ERADICATE the enemy who won't surrender UNCONDITIONALLY.

Until we do that - until we fight like FDR and TRUMAN - WW4 will drag on, an ever-widening more dangerous war. And over time, the enemy just gets stringer - and it just becomes evermore likely that they'll get WMD and use them.

Weather is what we experience - what we see and feel and hear.

We cannot experience climate because it is not real; it's a heuristic construct.

When people act as if an intellectual construct is real they are committing what Alfred North Whitehead called "the fallacy of the misplaced concreteness. This is also known as REIFICATION.

(Ditto "race"; this is why racism is stupid and why we must treat all humans as individuals - because that is what they are!)!

There are weather patterns - and some last days, or weeks, or months, or years, or decades, or centuries - but they are just malleable patterns, very complex and sublet to change.

The geological record is replete with huge shift in these patterns, and NOTHING we are experiencing now is outside of these known historic shifts.

A given "weather era" or climatological pattern in a past period of geological history is a CONSTRUCT, a genre, a set, AN ARBITRARILY ISOLATED COLLECTION OF DAYS?YEARS/DECADES/CENTURIES CONSTRUCTED BY OBSERVATION OF CERTAIN SPECIFIC CHOSEN ATTRIBUTES.

The weather within the confines of those arbitrary dates was real; the climate is a construct - and a construct which ignores many possible factors - like cloud cover, volcanoes, and gamma rays. Most of these climate eras do not ignore sunspot activity, and this almost always correlates to changes in weather patterns over time.

The sun has ALWAYS had variations in its output. Climates - local and other wise - have always changed.

Man-made CO2 and other man-made "greenhouse gases" have not made our "climate era" deviate from previous "climate eras" in any remarkable way.

IOW: climate change is NATURAL. And the AGW alarmists should STFU.

NYC MAYOR BLOOMBERG'S OFFICE ABUSED POSITIONS TO HELP IMAM RAUF GAIN APPROVAL FOR MOSQUE

As this New York Post article tells, mayor Michael Bloomberg and his office staff, now rightfully looked upon in disgrace by many Americans, wrongfully used his standing to help the reprehensible imam Feisal Rauf to gain city approval for the mosque he wants to build at Ground Zero (via Jihad Watch and Atlas Shrugs):

Dozens of e-mails between Mayor Bloomberg's aides and developers of the proposed mosque near Ground Zero reveal a cordial, if not downright cozy, relationship and the length to which a top city staffer went to help the project -- even drafting a letter for the group soliciting support from the community board, and providing the fax number to send it.

In one exchange, Community Affairs Commissioner Nazli Parvizi penned the draft of a letter to be sent by Daisy Khan, a key sponsor of the project known alternately as Cordoba House or Park51, to the chairperson of Community Board 1, Julie Menin, as the panel prepared to vote on its recommendation on the project.

The letter drafted by Parvizi thanked Menin for being open-minded about the plan for a mosque and cultural center -- which by then had become a flashpoint issue around the nation.

Parvizi e-mailed the draft to Khan and her husband, Imam Feisal Abdul Rauf -- ending with the salutation, "Best, Daisy," indicating that she actually was preparing Khan's letter to a city agency.

She also included the fax number and mailing address for CB1 -- which ultimately voted in favor of the project in May -- and offered further assistance.[...]

Opponents of the plan were furious.

"The mayor was touting, ironically, government not being involved in religion, and here you have the mayor's staffer assisting in a public-relations campaign on behalf of a mosque and Islamic center," said Debra Burlingame, whose brother was a pilot of one of the hijacked planes on 9/11.

"I think this is highly improper."

So do I. And for this, Bloomberg should practically be impeached. I would not be one bit surprised if Bloomberg himself fully approved of this, and had his staffers do the dirty work to avert attention from his own involvement; it's usually done that way in cases like these. In any case, it does not excuse Bloomberg's own disgraceful behavior in all this. He has shown utter contempt for the victims of 9-11, and the sooner he's out of office, the better.

NYTIMES: "Obama Returns to End-of-Life Plan That Caused Stir"

When a proposal to encourage end-of-life planning touched off a political storm over “death panels,” Democrats dropped it from legislation to overhaul the health care system.

But the Obama administration will achieve the same goal by regulation, starting Jan. 1.

Under the new policy, outlined in a Medicare regulation, the government will pay doctors who advise patients on options for end-of-life care, which may include advance directives to forgo aggressive life-sustaining treatment.

Congressional supporters of the new policy, though pleased, have kept quiet. They fear provoking another furor like the one in 2009 when Republicans seized on the idea of end-of-life counseling to argue that the Democrats’ bill would allow the government to cut off care for the critically ill.

The final version of the health care legislation, signed into law by President Obama in March, authorized Medicare coverage of yearly physical examinations, or wellness visits. The new rule says Medicare will cover “voluntary advance care planning,” to discuss end-of-life treatment, as part of the annual visit.

Under the rule, doctors can provide information to patients on how to prepare an “advance directive,” stating how aggressively they wish to be treated if they are so sick that they cannot make health care decisions for themselves.

While the new law does not mention advance care planning, the Obama administration has been able to achieve its policy goal through the regulation-writing process, a strategy that could become more prevalent in the next two years as the president deals with a strengthened Republican opposition in Congress.
