CHINA TAKES TWO AGGRESSIVE MOVES TO IMPROVE FOOD EXPORTS

China said Tuesday its food and drug safety procedures were not satisfactory and vowed to improve them.

China has been under pressure domestically and internationally to improve its quality controls after a series of health scares attributed to substandard Chinese products, including exported tainted food and fake drugs.

``As a developing country, China's current food and drug safety situation is not very satisfactory because supervision of food and drug safety started late, its foundation is weak so the supervision of food and drug safety is not easy,'' the State Food and Drug Administration said in a statement at the start of a news conference.

A cold snap is continuing to grip several South American nations, reportedly killing three people.

Two exposure deaths were reported in Argentina and one in Chile.

In Bolivia, heavy snowfall blocked the nation's main motorway and forced the closure of several airports, local officials said.

In Argentina, several provinces in the Andes have been placed under a storm alert, the national weather centre said.

But thousands of people cheered in the streets of Buenos Aires as the capital saw its first snow in nearly 90 years.

"Despite all my years, this is the first time I've ever seen snow in Buenos Aires," 82-year-old Juana Benitez was quoted as saying by the Associated Press news agency.

In Chile, temperatures dropped to -18C (0F) in parts of Araucania region in the south.

Meteorologists predict that the cold snap will last for several more days.

We are doomed, say climate change scientists associated with the United Nations Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change, the United Nations body that is organizing most of the climate change research occurring in the world today.

Carbon dioxide from man-made sources rises to the atmosphere and then stays there for 50, 100, or even 200 years.

This unprecedented buildup of CO2 then traps heat that would otherwise escape our atmosphere, threatening us all.

"This is nonsense," says Tom V. Segalstad, head of the Geological Museum at the University of Oslo and formerly an expert reviewer with the same IPCC.

He laments the paucity of geologic knowledge among IPCC scientists -- a knowledge that is central to understanding climate change, in his view, since geologic processes ultimately determine the level of atmospheric CO2.

"The IPCC needs a lesson in geology to avoid making fundamental mistakes," he says.

"Most leading geologists, throughout the world, know that the IPCC's view of Earth processes are implausible if not impossible."

Likud MK Silvan Shalom is dropping out of the leadership race. With the way he talks, I'd say he deserves it:

Likud MK Silvan Shalom announced at a press conference in Tel Aviv Monday morning that he was dropping out of the September 3 primary race against current party chairman Binyamin Netanyahu.

Shalom said he could not be a partner in the primary elections if they were held as Netanyahu wanted. "What's happening in the Likud today is a farce typical of the Baath regime in Syria," Shalom said. "Is that what we want to imitate?"

How insulting can he be? Plus, how leftist can he be? The answer lies in the following:

Members forcing decisions on the party had already driven out several prominent Likud members, he argued, citing former MKs Dan Meridor, David Levy, and Yitzhak Mordechai as examples.

And two out of three of those examples are definitely leftists: Meridor, who went with Kadima, and Mordechai, who undermined Netanyahu's government a decade ago. It should be noted that Mordechai was convicted of sexual misconduct, and was certainly an abusive womanizer, so I think the citing of him as an example is more than a bit tacky.

Now, please kindly resign from the Knesset, Silvan, and spare us the excess leftism in disguise.

PENDING INVESTIGATION OF OLMERT'S HOUSE PURCHASE

The state attorney's office has decided to recommend opening an investigation into Ehud Olmert's buying a house unlawfully:

Despite reports late Sunday night that a criminal investigation would be opened against Prime Minister Ehud Olmert regarding his purchase of a home on the capital's Cremieux Street in 2004, Justice Ministry officials insisted that the case was simply in a "very advanced stage, pending a decision."

Justice Ministry spokesman Moshe Cohen refused to confirm or deny rumors that State Attorney Eran Shendar had decided to recommend to Attorney-General Menahem Mazuz that Olmert face a criminal investigation for the real estate purchase.

In the Justice Ministry, however, the belief was that a decision on a criminal probe would be made in the next two to three weeks.

The circumstances surrounding the purchase of Olmert's home in the German Colony neighborhood raised suspicions last year when reports were released that Olmert, who formerly served as both mayor of Jerusalem and finance minister, had received the property at substantially below market price in exchange for granting his contractor special favors at the municipality.

I think the beginning of the end of Olmert's career is just around the corner.

Flagging Britain

Britain's new Prime Minister is wrapping himself in a piece of coloured cloth in order to cover up a couple of rather ugly embarrassments. The cloth in question is the union flag, which was once pronounced anathema in the heady early days of the New Labour project. As in almost everything else New Labour purported to stand for, the movement has completed an about turn.

Embarrassment number one is the festering sore in the flank of the union arising from the insouciant Mr Blair's quick fix in creating the Scottish Parliament, completely ignoring the infamous West Lothian Question that had so exercised finer minds. Now that we have a Scottish Prime Minister, absurdities pile upon absurdities. The PM's own constituents (in common with those of another party leader in the adjoining Fife constituency) have privileges that are forbidden to the English, such as free drugs for cancer and dementia, free university education and guaranteed small school class sizes. Furthermore, these privileges are funded out of a massive subsidy to Scots, paid out of English taxes according to the historical Barnett Formula (which, incidentally is now repudiated by its eponymous author). Even worse, Scottish MPs, like the PM, are entitled to vote on matters that only affect the English, such as those proscriptions, whereas the reciprocal relationship does not apply.

Embarrassment number two is that the Prime Minister has declared his intention of reneging on the manifesto promise for a referendum on the question of a new European Constitution. Blair, as his final act of treachery, signed up to a new drastic transfer of powers. All over Europe it is acknowledged that the new treaty is the old constitution in almost all except name. Only in Britain is the fiction maintained that it is not a constitution. That bit of coloured cloth, which is now to fly above all official buildings, is about to become virtually meaningless. In reality it should be replaced by the flag of the other union, and perhaps soon will be. Comparisons with that other great democratic union in North America are spurious. The EU is an undemocratic oligarchy, corrupt and riddled with fraud. Would you invest in a business that has never had its accounts passed by its auditors? If only Britain had an opposition!

Muslim Denial Getting Worse

I mentioned on July 5 that new British Prime Minister Gordon Brown has forbidden reference to Muslims in connection with the recent terror attacks in England and Scotland.

It seems that the worse the Muslim attacks get, the more the Muslim involvement has to get covered up. The New York Times has also come to the party. It claims that the various Muslim attacks in Britian have brought "home to Britain fears of homegrown terrorist attacks among its disenfranchised South Asian population"

Since most South Asians in Britain are Hindus, that is straight-out deception. And how are any of them "disenfranchised"? Nobody is denied the vote in Britain on account of their religion or race. So desperate are they that we are now getting straight lies from the mainstream media. "The people must not be told the truth" might almost be the Leftist motto. It is certainly what they practice whenever they can.

Princeton economist Alan Krueger is one representative of the coverup among academics. He admits that the old fallback -- poverty -- does not cause terrorism and says that it is "suppression of civil liberties and political rights" that causes terrorism. Yet nowhere in the world do Muslims have such great civil liberties and political rights as they do in Britain. So that is why there have been so many Muslim attacks in Britain, you see! Anything at all will be grasped at rather than admit that Islam is the problem.

No this is NO URBAN MYTH. This is directly from an officer based in Iraq living amongst the Iraqis. This is the same Al Qa'eda who want to bomb you on your morning commute; kidnap you if you visit their countries and generally wipe you out from the face of the planet. AL QA'EDA AGAINST IRAN

It's the barbarians against the Neanderthals: more than we could have dared hope! Al Qa'eda declaring war upon Ahmadinejad and his henchmen. And this is no idle threat. Check this out:

Abu Omar al-Baghdadi, who leads the group Islamic State in Iraq, said his Sunni fighters have been preparing for four years to wage a battle against Shiite-dominated Iran.

“We are giving the Persians, and especially the rulers of Iran, a two month period to end all kinds of support for the Iraqi Shiite government and to stop direct and indirect intervention ... otherwise a severe war is waiting for you,” he said in the 50-minute audiotape. The tape, which could not be independently verified, was posted on a Web site commonly used by insurgent groups.

Let's hope they draw in all the other cavemen.

Lebanon On The Brink

Syria looks to be creating new troubles for Lebanon.

Syria has called on its citizens to leave Lebanon ahead of an expected "eruption" in that country, Arab and Iranian press reports have said.

The media reports were translated and made available by MEMRI in a special dispatch on Sunday.

"In the past few days, Arab and Iranian media reports have pointed to the possibility that Lebanon's current political crisis may become a violent conflict after July 15, 2007," the MEMRI dispatch said.

July 15 comes one day before a special UN Security Council meeting which is expected to discuss the possibility of stationing international experts on the Syria-Lebanon border, in order monitor the ongoing illegal cross border arms traffic to Hizbullah, thought to be originating from Iran and Syria.

The UN Security Council is also expected to meet next week to discuss a key report on the assassination of former Lebanese Prime Minister Rafik Hariri, a development which may bode badly for Syria.

It is well known (though not definitely proved) that Syria was behind the Hariri murder. I don't understand why a UN Security Council investigation scares Baby Assad so much. I wonder what other skeletons are hidden in the Syrian closet?

Syrian troops on Thursday reportedly have penetrated three kilometers into Lebanese territories, taking up positions in the mountains near Yanta in east Lebanon's Bekaa Valley.

The daily Al Mustaqbal, citing sources who confirmed the cross-border penetration, did not say when the procedure in the Fahs Hill overlooking Deir al-Ashaer in the Rashaya province took place.

The sources said Syrian troops, backed by bulldozers, were fortifying positions "in more than one area" along the Lebanese border, erecting earth mounds and digging "hundreds" of trenches and individual bunkers.

No mention of this in your regular newspaper? Now what if Israel had done the same thing?

Syria is removing checkpoints from the Golan.

The London based Al-Hayat reported Saturday that Israel was "concerned" that Syria's decision to remove military checkpoints on the road to Kuneitra on the Syrian side of the Golan Heights could be a preparation for war.

According to the report, the checkpoints in question had been in place for 40 years, ever since the Six Day War.

Al-Hayat also claimed that foreign journalists were being barred from covering IDF maneuvers conducted on the Golan Heights.

According to Fred Thompson the Democrats are "The Party of Despair", truer words have never been spoken. Thompson continues to elicit excitement and energy among Republicans. Here is a small excerpt of what he had to say at the Young Republicans National Convention:

In his speech, Thompson fired up the crowd when he said he was the top target of The New York Times and Democratic presidential candidate Hillary Rodham Clinton. He said the United States was the greatest country, and that set the audience off, too.

"I'm getting tired of having to apologize for the United States of America around the world," Thompson said. "I'm tired of other people's perceptions that we need to apologize."

He said voters will not support Democratic candidates who are "driving over a left-wing cliff." Thompson added, "I don't think the people are going to turn the keys of this country over to the party of despair."

So you think I'm defying the scientific facts on climate change? Well, think again, says film-producer Martin Durkin below (Excerpt):

I could not have upset the soft-left, soft-green middle classes more if I had crept in their kitchens and snuck genetically modified tomatoes in their paninis. Why did I make the film The Great Global Warming Swindle? The head of science programs at Britain's Channel 4, Hamish Mykura (who has a PhD in environmental science), asked me to. He suspected the global warming alarm was not based on solid science. So did his predecessor, Sara Ramsden, who was also eager to make a film in this area. I was an experienced science documentary producer used to handling complex subjects.

So what was our conclusion, after months of research that involved talking to hundreds of scientists and wading through mountains of science papers? It's all codswallop. The notion of man-made global warming started life as a wild, eccentric theory and, despite throwing billions of dollars at it, scientists have failed to stand it up. Man-made global warming is unmitigated nonsense.

This is not the first time scientists have talked rubbish. Absurd theories come and go in science all the time. A few years ago an ostensible consensus of scientists said one-third of the British population were about to pop their clogs because they had eaten dodgy hamburgers (the mad cow disease scare). Many scientists build whole careers talking out of their hats. But usually it goes unnoticed. There is no real harm done. But global warming theory is different. It cannot be ignored. It is intruding into our lives to an extraordinary extent, shaping domestic and international policy in profound ways.

I urge readers to look at the evidence themselves....

Who should you believe? There is nothing for it but to be grown up about it and look at the evidence yourself. Here's some to get you going: the two graphs on this page, published in Geophysical Research Letters Volume 32, 2005 by a leading astrophysicist from Harvard University. The one below compares temperature change in the Arctic during the 20th century with levels of CO2. The one on the top compares the same temperature record to variations in solar activity as recorded, independently, by scientists from NASA and the US National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration. The question posed by the astrophysicist is a simple one. What is driving the Earth's climate? Is it CO2 or is it the sun?

An Interesting Test in Massachusetts

The Confederate flag should REALLY test the limits in Mass:

"A Watertown man is criticizing the Town Council for adopting a program that seeks to curb hate crimes, saying he believes it violates his right to free speech.

Ralph Filicchia, 71, said he's "not a hater" but believes the town's participation in the Anti-Defamation League of New England's No Place For Hate program infringes on his freedom to hold opinions that may go against the grain. "People should be free to express things without being charged with hatemongering or hate speech," said Filicchia, who is retired but does some freelance writing on political issues. "Isn't the whole idea of free speech to protect offensive speech?"

Filicchia hung a Confederate flag outside his Bellevue Road home last week in protest, saying he would leave it up until a "No Place for Hate" sign in front of Town Hall is removed.

Council President Clyde L. Younger said in an interview he was surprised at Filicchia's stance, since the No Place For Hate program is well-known and not about censoring speech, but fighting bigotry.

DOWN WITH DIVERSITY

Now I know why "diversity" has got to be as negative a word as "multiculturalism": they're bringing in all the wrong people to the Londonistan police force, and the really bizarre part is that, they can't even fire them (via Hot Air):

Up to eight police officers and civilian staff are suspected of links to extremist groups including Al Qaeda.

Some are even believed to have attended terror training camps in Pakistan or Afghanistan…

The dossier was drawn up with the help of MI5 amid fears that individuals linked to Islamic extremism are taking advantage of police attempts to increase the proportion of ethnic staff.

Astonishingly, many of the alleged jihadists have not been sacked because - it is claimed - police do not have the “legal power” to dismiss them…

Instead, the staff who are under suspicion are unofficially barred from working in sensitive posts and are closely monitored. Political correctness is blamed for the decision not to sack them…

Suspicions are growing that the gang behind the failed London bomb attacks could have received inside information about rescue procedures in the aftermath of an atrocity in the capital.

The Daily Mail can reveal that the second device parked near Haymarket was left at a designated “evacuation assembly point” where civilians and the emergency services would have gathered had the first bomb gone off…

As a result of the Stephen Lawrence public inquiry report, which accused the Met of being “institutionally racist”, Scotland Yard has in recent years employed thousands of officers and civilian staff from the ethnic minorities in an attempt to reach recruitment targets.

And even stateside, there's problems with extremists in the police force, if you look to Dearbornistan, where there's several Muslim police officers in their local force who've been instrumental in undermining FBI raids on local terrorist moles, and who even support Hezbollah. One such person was recently fired from the police unit there. No such fiends should ever be hired for important jobs like police and army.

But just look at that: in contrast to the US police, where a scumbag was fired with no problem, UK police seem tied up by a bizarre form of red tape and can't fire terrorist sympathisers. What kind of joke is this?

Whether or not Israeli Jews have forgotten Ehud Barak's failures as a prime minister, Israeli Arabs have not: Barak faced protests in Nazareth, and pretty noisy ones at that.

Update on the Blocking of Sites that are Critical of Islam

As I noted two days ago, several sites that often feature uncensored reports of Muslim doings have been widely blocked lately -- though CAIR and various Jihadi sites have remained fully accessible.

Publicity about the blocking campaign seems to have had some effect. Robert Spencer of Jihad Watch has now been told by many of his readers that they can once again access his site from their work computers.

All readers here should monitor the situation, however. Unless it is nipped in the bud, Leftist censorship will just proliferate. So if you ARE blocked from accessing any conservative sites, protest loud and long about it to whoever is in charge of your work computers.

Muslim Suicide Bombers Are Losers Who Can't Get Laid

Muslim suicide bombing...has a lot to do with sex, or, in this case, the absence of sex.

What distinguishes Islam from other major religions is that it tolerates polygyny. By allowing some men to monopolize all women and altogether excluding many men from reproductive opportunities, polygyny creates shortages of available women. If 50 percent of men have two wives each, then the other 50 percent don't get any wives at all.

So polygyny increases competitive pressure on men, especially young men of low status. It therefore increases the likelihood that young men resort to violent means to gain access to mates. By doing so, they have little to lose and much to gain compared with men who already have wives. Across all societies, polygyny makes men violent, increasing crimes such as murder and rape, even after controlling for such obvious factors as economic development, economic inequality, population density, the level of democracy, and political factors in the region.....

The other key ingredient is the promise of 72 virgins waiting in heaven for any martyr in Islam. The prospect of exclusive access to virgins may not be so appealing to anyone who has even one mate on earth, which strict monogamy virtually guarantees. However, the prospect is quite appealing to anyone who faces the bleak reality on earth of being a complete reproductive loser.

TAKING THE GOLAN: BLOODBATH LOOMING

If you care two cents about our troops over there in hell central, you'd better start praying because new developments that affect Israel are highly likely to cause mayhem over there. Israel is our only ally in the Middle East. If Israel goes under, our troops are completely surrounded by the barbarians. (Keep this in mind when reading this).

GETTING THROUGH THE BAD TIMES

It's tough reading the news lately. Michael Yon has stories of al-Qaeda atrocities, yet no one, least of all the MSM, cares. President Bush does the right thing by commuting Scooter Libby's sentence and now polls say 45% of the public thinks he should be impeached. Meanwhile, Al Gore is holding a huge concert for a problem that doesn't exist and he's a hero.

But I guess I shouldn't get too down. I'm always quick to point out that you need to weather the bad times and, in fact, relish them, for they make the good times even sweeter. This is a rough patch for us libertarian/conservative types, but everything is cyclical. Keep up the good fight. Chin up.
