The Pakistan People's Party, which swept the parliamentary elections last week on Sunday called for an end to military operations in the southwestern Pakistani province where intelligence officials believe Taliban leaders may be holed up.

In a resolution issued Sunday after a meeting of top leaders, the PPP called on the army to immediately stop its operation in Balochistan, a province near the Afghan border.

The party also asked that all prisoners, be released and said it would work toward giving "maximum provincial autonomy" to the area.

• THIS IS TANTAMOUNT TO SURRENDER.

• THIS IS NEARLY EXACTLY WHAT THE DEMOCRATS WOULD HAVE US DO IN IRAQ.

• IT IS APPEASEMENT AT BEST, CAPITULATION AT WORST.

Pakistan militants linked to Al-Qaeda warned any incoming civilian government on Sunday that they would strike even more viciously if President Pervez Musharraf's war on terror was continued in tribal areas.

Following last week's inconclusive election, several political parties are in talks to form a coalition big enough for a ruling majority in the National Assembly. How they deal with the militants will be one of their most pressing challenges.

In northwest Pakistan on Sunday, militants attacked a security post and killed a policeman and two paramilitary servicemen and wounded six others, officials said.

IRAN HARRASSES AMERICAN NAVY

WASHINGTON (AP) -- In what U.S. officials called a serious provocation, Iranian Revolutionary Guard boats harassed and provoked three U.S. Navy ships in the strategic Strait of Hormuz, threatening to explode the American vessels.

U.S. forces were on the verge of firing on the Iranian boats in the early Sunday incident, when the boats turned and moved away, a Pentagon official said. ''It is the most serious provocation of this sort that we've seen yet,'' said the official, who spoke on condition of anonymity because he was not authorized to speak on the record.

White House spokesman Tony Fratto said: ''We urge the Iranians to
refrain from such provocative actions that could lead to a dangerous incident in
the future.''

The incident occurred at about 5 a.m. local time Sunday as a U.S. Navy
cruiser, destroyer and frigate were on their way into the Persian Gulf and
passing through the strait -- a major oil shipping route.

Five small boats began charging the U.S. ships, dropping boxes in the water in front of the ships and forcing the U.S. ships to take evasive maneuvers, the Pentagon official said.

There were no injuries but the official said there could have been, because the Iranian boats turned away ''literally at the very moment that U.S. forces were preparing to open fire'' in self defense.

The official said he didn't have the precise transcript of communications that passed between the two forces, but said the Iranians radioed something like ''we're coming at you and you'll explode in a couple minutes.''

Iranian officials were not immediately available for comment Monday,
and there was no news of the incident on Iranian state-run media.

They dropped "boxes" in front of our ships. Of course, our guys couldn't have known the contents of those boxes. They could have been bombs.

This was a probing exercise. They want to see how far they can push us.

Question, how did they know when they went too far? They turned back just as we were about to take them out? Was that mere luck?

The Fruits of Israeli Appeasement: one IDF hostage - held for a year - reported killed

Two years ago, we gave up the Gush as a show of good faith.

And in return, we got thousands of rockets raining down on Israeli civilians, women, children, schools.

Last year, Israel should have fought until these men [Ehud Goldwasser, Eldad Regev and Gilad Shalit] were released or until every single square inch of Lebanon and Gaza was buried under rubble. Hezbollah, Hamas, and Fatah should have been destroyed, completely destroyed.

Originally, the plan was to negotiate the release of prisoners in exchange for the release of Gilad Shalit, but in the end, they just let the terrorists go free.

Al Qaeda knows who its allies are.

Mohamad al-Janabi, a reputed al-Qaeda member in the nearby city of Salman Pak, said in a interview that he was unable to contact his comrades in Mahmudiyah to determine whether they were responsible for the attack.

But he added: "I can assure you that we will start pressuring Bush in a new way at the same time he is facing pressures from the Democrats and the American people. And there will be no problem to sacrifice 10 soldiers in order to abduct a single American soldier and get him on television screens begging for us to release him."

Notice Al Qaeda is not pressuring us to stay, which is odd, because I keep being told that Al Qaeda loves having American troops in Iraq and Bush is "playing right into their hands."

THIS IS JUST MORE PROOF THAT THE OFFICIAL DEMOCRAT POLICY IS ACTUALLY HELPING AL QAEDA AND HURTING THE NASCENT DEMOCRACY OF IRAQ.

IT'S ALSO PROOF THAT IT WEAKENS OUR EFFORT TO DESTROY AL QAEDA, AND THEREBY WEAKENS SIDE IN THE GLOBAL JIHAD AL QAEDA DECLARED IN 1998 - BEFORE "BUSHCHENEYROVEHALLIBURTION" BECAME PRESIDENT AND HANDED OVER OUR FOREIGN POLICY TO THE LIKUD.

A TIME FOR CHOOSING

It is astonishing how these words seem to be even more relevant today, over 40 years after Reagan made this speech for Barry Goldwater. You will have goosebumps as you watch this and read the words to it. Is there any wonder so many of us loved and adored this man?

Here are the words to the part of the speech that is on the video:

Those who would trade our freedom for the soup kitchen of the welfare state have told us that they have a utopian solution of peace without victory. They call their policy "accommodation." And they say if we only avoid any direct confrontation with the enemy, he will forget his evil ways and learn to love us. All who oppose them are indicted as warmongers. They say we offer simple answers to complex problems. Well, perhaps there is a simple answer--not an easy answer--but simple.

If you and I have the courage to tell our elected officials that we want our national policy based upon what we know in our hearts is morally right. We cannot buy our security, our freedom from the threat of the bomb by committing an immorality so great as saying to a billion now in slavery behind the Iron Curtain, "Give up your dreams of freedom because to save our own skin, we are willing to make a deal with your slave masters." Alexander Hamilton said, "A nation which can prefer disgrace to danger is prepared for a master, and deserves one." Let's set the record straight. Admittedly there is a risk in any course we follow other than this, but every lesson in history tells us that the greater risk lies in appeasement, and this is the specter our well-meaning liberal friends refuse to face--that their policy of accommodation is appeasement, and it gives no choice between peace and war, only between fight and surrender. If we continue to accommodate, continue to back and retreat, eventually we have to face the final demand--the ultimatum. And what then? When Nikita Khrushchev has told his people he knows what our answer will be? He has told them that we are retreating under the pressure of the Cold War, and someday when the time comes to deliver the ultimatum, our surrender will be voluntary because by that time we will have weakened from within spiritually, morally, and economically. He believes this because from our side he has heard voices pleading for "peace at any price" or "better Red than dead," or as one commentator put it, he would rather "live on his knees than die on his feet." And therein lies the road to war, because those voices don't speak for the rest of us.

You and I know and do not believe that life is so dear and peace so sweet as to be purchased at the price of chains and slavery. If nothing in life is worth dying for, when did this begin--just in the face of this enemy? Or should Moses have told the children of Israel to live in slavery under the pharaohs? Should Christ have refused the cross? Should the patriots at Concord Bridge have thrown down their guns and refused to fire the shot heard 'round the world? The martyrs of history were not fools, and our honored dead who gave their lives to stop the advance of the Nazis didn't die in vain. Where, then, is the road to peace? Well, it's a simple answer after all.

You and I have the courage to say to our enemies, "There is a price we will not pay." There is a point beyond which they must not advance. This is the meaning in the phrase of Barry Goldwater's "peace through strength." Winston Churchill said that "the destiny of man is not measured by material computation. When great forces are on the move in the world, we learn we are spirits--not animals." And he said, "There is something going on in time and space, and beyond time and space, which, whether we like it or not, spells duty."

You and I have a rendezvous with destiny. We will preserve for our children this, the last best hope of man on Earth, or we will sentence them to take the last step into a thousand years of darkness.

We will keep in mind and remember that Barry Goldwater has faith in us. He has faith that you and I have the ability and the dignity and the right to make our own decisions and determine our own destiny.

The recent spate of jihadist attacks in Morocco and Algeria make me wonder:

DOES AL QAEDA HAVE A NEW STRATEGY - ONE DEVELOPED IN IRAQ? IN BAGHDAD?

HERE'S WHY:

Since Democrats won back Congress they have been on a non-stop mission of APPEASEMENT: demanding withdrawal by an arbitrary deadline; holding up spending to support the troops; and going out of their way to meet with murderous tyrants - like Assad.

I think that there have been two segments of the world's public who have been pleased by these developments: the Left and the jihadists.

And I think that the jihadists - principally al Qaeda - have LEARNED a great deal from this. They have learned that all it takes to get the USA to retreat - (and thereby the West, or Free World, or modern world, if you will, to retreat as well) - is sustain a relatively low-level terrorist war in the capital of a targeted nation. This is all they have been able to do in Iraq.

Though the terror is not tactically effective - (they have gained no territory and taken much bigger losses than they've been able to inflict) - apparently, (at least with Democrats in control), it's all they have to do to get us to RETREAT and cede them territory.

The recent round of Democrat Assad-licking and defeatist/retreatist policy-making is a direct result of a lack of resolve on OUR SIDE. The enemy sees this. The enemy must conclude from this that now - with this strategy - they can and will eventually they will wear us down... and WIN. And make no mistake about it: the enemy has the resolve: they've been at this for A THOUSAND YEARS. They are ready, willing and able to keep it up for another few decades.

Democrats are not. Which means if they EVER get control of the White House and Congress: WE LOSE. And the enemy knows this. And they believe that all they have to do is keep killing people in the big cities of targeted nations - killing them in seemingly incessant and ghoulish attacks.

They did it recently in Bangkok, too... (REMEMBER NEW YEARS EVE THERE?!). And they're still trying to do it in Israel - Tel Aviv, especially.

And they recently announced a campaign to terrify Pakistanis by starting a suicide-bombing campaign in Islamabad! (Islamabad is the capitol of Pakistan.)

I wouldn't be surprised to see several coordinated/multi-bomb attacks - in the coming weeks and months - in major and/or capitol cities: from Algiers to Cairo to Beirut to Bangkok to Manila to London to Paris to Moscow. Time will tell.

ONLY ONE THING IS FOR SURE: The more the Left appeases the enemy, the more the enemy will attack us.

There is only one road to peace: the road to victory.

We're right now at a fork in that road. If we turn Left - with the Democrats, then we lose. If we keep going and bear right - and stay with the GOP - then we can win.

Achieving victory REQUIRES we that defeat the Left - THE DEMOCRATS - right here at home... FIRST.

Indeed, since December 2006, AQIM had expanded attacks from small local targets to international interests in Algeria, including the December machine-gunning of a bus full of Halliburton employees and the March bombing of vehicles transporting Russian oil industry workers. Says the French official, "If the particulars of this attack are almost surely internally Algerian, the wider consequences just as logically apply to us. We're aware of that risk and have been anticipating it. But as today shows, you can never anticipate enough."

France circulated a draft Security Council statement that expresses "serious concern" at mounting reports of illegal arms transfers across the Lebanon-Syria border and authorizes an independent mission to assess how the frontier is being monitored. The proposed presidential statement, sent to council members late Thursday and obtained Friday, welcomes the Lebanese government's "determination" to prevent arms transfer, which are banned under a UN resolution that ended last summer's Second Lebanon War.

It reiterates the council's call on the Syrian government "to take further measures to reinforce controls at the border," and it urges all countries, especially Syria and Iran, to enforce the arms embargo.

In order for a military force to function, the members of that force must be able to depend on their fellow members - on their training, and their dedication.

If one troop cannot rely on another, then the entire force structure is rendered hollow.

This is exactly what will happen to the British military if the dishonorable British marines and sailors are not punished for acquiescing (in virtually every way!) to the enemy.

REPEAT: if they go unpunished, then this event becomes about more than merely the 15 active duty troops who failed; it becomes about how a once proud and strong military became the laughingstock of the world, a hollow force which no longer has the barest minimum martial esprit de corps. IOW: It now appears that when the going gets tough, the British get wimpy.

This is a shame, and Nelson and Montgomery and Churchill must be spinning in their graves. And Thatcher must be boiling.

I wonder how Prince Harry feels? Is this the kind of military he wishes to serve in?

There was a time when the British Navy was the unparalleled master of the seas. No other naval force, no matter as mighty as the Spanish Armada or the combined Spanish and French fleets of the Napoleonic period or the massive battleships and myriad u-boats of World War II, ever displaced the British Navy on the high seas. The British Navy was the guarantor of free trade, the eliminator of the Atlantic slave trade, and the wall of wood and iron that protected the British Isles -- never invaded since 1066.

As recently as 1982, when the Argentine dictatorship seized the Falkland Islands, a British Naval task force responded and repulsed the invaders.

The moral ethic of the British Navy was stern and unforgiving. The Articles of War, first codified by Parliament in 1749, demanded the utmost in patriotism, professionalism, discipline, and self-sacrifice from all the officers and sailors aboard ship. Here are three typical Articles:

Every flag officer, captain and commander in the fleet, who, upon signal or order of fight, or sight of any ship or ships which it may be his duty to engage, or who, upon likelihood of engagement, shall not make the necessary preparations for fight, and shall not in his own person, and according to his place, encourage the inferior officers and men to fight courageously, shall suffer death, or such other punishment, as from the nature and degree of the offence a court martial shall deem him to deserve; and if any person in the fleet shall treacherously or cowardly yield or cry for quarter, every person so offending, and being convicted thereof by the sentence of a court martial, shall suffer death.

Every person in the fleet, who shall not duly observe the orders of the admiral, flag officer, commander of any squadron or division, or other his superior officer, for assailing, joining battle with, or making defense against any fleet, squadron, or ship, or shall not obey the orders of his superior officer as aforesaid in the time of action, to the best of his power, or shall not use all possible endeavours to put the same effectually into execution, every person so offending, and being convicted thereof by the sentence of the court martial, shall suffer death, or such other punishment, as from the nature and degree of the offence a court martial shall deem him to deserve.

Every person in the fleet, who through cowardice, negligence, or disaffection, shall in time of action withdraw or keep back, or not come into the fight or engagement, or shall not do his utmost to take or destroy every ship which it shall be his duty to engage, and to assist and relieve all and every of His Majesty's ships, or those of his allies, which it shall be his duty to assist and relieve, every such person so offending, and being convicted thereof by the sentence of a court martial, shall suffer death.

Every person in the fleet, who though cowardice, negligence, or disaffection, shall forbear to pursue the chase of any enemy, pirate or rebel, beaten or flying; or shall not relieve or assist a known friend in view to the utmost of his power; being convicted of any such offense by the sentence of a court martial, shall suffer death.

In the days when the ships were of wood, but the men were iron, it was adherence to this code of martial virtue that enabled the British Isles to become a great naval power.

From news reports this week, however, it appears that the British Navy no longer subscribes to the behavior that such a martial code implies.

As everyone knows, a boarding party of British sailors and marines engaged in the inspection of an Indian ship in Iraqi waters was attacked by Iranian small craft. The British seamen (including one woman) surrendered without firing a shot, and during their Iranian captivity, made propaganda films for the hostage-takers, groveled and apologized to the unlawful tyrants as if they had done anything wrong, and then thanked the Iranians for their hospitality and kindness.

There is no doubt that the initial attack took place in Iraqi territory. The Telegraph reports:

The Ministry of Defence says it has incontrovertible evidence that the eight sailors and seven Royal Marines were 1.7 nautical miles inside Iraqi waters when they were arrested during a search of an Indian vessel on March 23.

From the same Telegraph story:

The British Naval personnel chose their words carefully and adopted measured tones for the informal interviews on Iranian television, but as they spoke each broke into a grin.

"I feel great, very happy and just relieved and thankful to go home," said Leading Seaman Turney, 26, a married mother of one.

"The treatment here has been great but it will be nice to get home and see my family."

Lieutenant Carman, 26, said: "To the Iranian people I can understand why you were insulted by our apparent intrusion into your waters.

"I hope this experience will help to build the relationship between our countries."

The nature of the relationship between Britain and the terrorists who confront Western civilization was underscored when - just hours before the British hostages were released - four British soldiers, including two women, were killed in a roadside bomb attack in Basra.

But, never mind.

Great Britain's Defence Chief, Sir Jock Stirrup, is apparently pleased with the way British sailors and marines comported themselves after coming under an Iranian attack in Iraqi waters and during their subsequent captivity.

"They did exactly as they should have done from start to finish and we are proud of them," said Air Chief Marshal Jock Stirrup, the head of Britain‘s armed forces and top military adviser.

Do you think he will recommend them for the Victoria Cross? It wouldn't shock me.

The British Press in general, and one-time British subject John Derbyshire in particular, have not been as enthusiastic about the conduct of the hostage sailors and marines as Sir Jock Stirrup has been, at least in public. Derb commented:

Able Seaman (I assume that's his rank) Summers had no business going on Iranian TV to tell the world that his country was wrong (even if it was) and Iran right. That was unpatriotic behavior. In the Queen's uniform.

Capt. Air and Lt. Carman disgraced themselves and their uniforms by groveling to their captors and thanking them.

Leading Seaman Turney should have pulled off that headscarf. It is not part of a British serviceman's uniform, and so she should not have worn it.

At a bare minimum, these servicemen should have stayed silent and refused to do what the Iranians instructed them to do. I would, in fact, say the same if they had been apprehended by a friendly power.

The Articles of War impose a stern and unforgiving standard of martial conduct. To today's Britons they must seem harsh and Spartan. But the Articles embody the principles which made the British warrior a feared enemy and welcomed friend everywhere he went. There was a time when Britannia ruled the waves.

Conduct such as Nelson demanded made Britain and strong and worldwide empire. Unfortunately, conduct such as Sir Jock Stirrup extols will render Britain weak and defenseless. In fact, such conduct is the result of a weak and defenseless, politically correct attitude that has already vitiated England's martial spirit. In England, for example, homeowners are prosecuted when they defend themselves against robbers, and the police advise victims of crime to submit to their attackers without a struggle.

The Mullahcracy's victory this week consisted of demonstrating to its subjugated people and to the entire world that the spirit of acquiescence, appeasement, and surrender is so pervasive in British society, that it has apparently permeated the Armed Forces.

OLMERT: ABU MAZEN BROKE PROMISES

Prime Minister Ehud Olmert said Sunday that Palestinian Authority Chairman Mahmoud Abbas blatantly violated a promise to free captive Israel Defense Forces soldier Gilad Shalit before forming a new national unity government.



Olmert spoke before the weekly Cabinet meeting and ahead of high-profile talks With U.S. Secretary of State Condoleezza Rice and UN chief Ban Ki-moon, both visiting the region.

"We can't ignore the fact that the chairman of the Palestinian Authority blatantly violated a series of commitments to Israel, especially the commitment that no national unity government would be formed before Gilad Shalit's release," Olmert said.

Olmert said Abbas had made the commitment again and again in meetings between the two leaders, during three-way summits that included Rice, and foreign heads of state.

Murderers - and those who condone murder - will of course LIE! Abu Mazen and his henchmen in FATAH murder Jews and Arabs (their competitors - Hamas); (check out the link - it quotes the FATAH charter - it'll shock you!). They cannot be trusted; therefore. it's time everyone accepted the fact that Israel HAS NO PARTNER WITH WHOM TO MAKE PEACE.

Abu Mazen is just a slicker, better-coiffed/better dressed version of al Sadr. The West should no more handover more territory to Abu Mazen, then to Hamas (or give Baghdad to the Mahdi Army or give Anbar to al Qaeda, or Basra to Iran).

Just as the UK refused to talk to the IRA until the disarmed, Israel and the West should refuse to deal with - or to even talk to the Pali's, and not give them one red cent - until they disarm their militias.

CT: 6 Months After the Thai Coup, Islamist Insurgency is Raging

Last week a group of militants in southern Thailand threw a small bomb in front of a small passenger van, disabling it, opened the side door, and shot all nine passengers, including three women and a young girl, execution style. Though several suspects have been arrested, the attack was reminiscent of the savagery of Algeria or Kashmir, and portends a bloody year in the restive south. The attack was also the latest in a string of more audacious and provocative attacks from Muslim insurgents.

Few realize the extent of the conflict in the south. So many have bought into the Thai government’s complacency and general sense of denial. The conflict in southern Thailand dwarfs any other conflict in Southeast Asia. ... More than 2,100 people have been killed in 38 months, and the government has proven completely incapable of responding to the situation and stemming the violence. That has given the insurgents considerable momentum, and caused a greater number of moderate Muslim civilians to be more supportive of the insurgents. ...

While the justification and rationale for the coup is still debated, people across the political spectrum placed considerable hope that the Council on National Security (CNS) and the government that they installed would do a better job than the Thaksin administration in stemming the violence.

Yet, the exact opposite has been true: the daily average rate of killing has more than tripled in the past six months, from 1.6 people a day in 2006 to almost four per day. Over 400 people, roughly 19 percent of the 2,100 people killed since January 2004 have died since the coup. Attacks have become more sophisticated and coordinated. Sadly the junta leaders remain oblivious to the reality on the ground and show precious little resolve in dealing with the insurgency, they remain mired in petty political squabbles in Bangkok and blind to the reports from their field commanders.

Besides the dramatic escalation in the number of people killed, there have been six discernable trends since the coup.

THAILAND: NON-MUSLIMS STAGE COUNTER-ATTACK

Attackers hurled explosives and opened fire on an Islamic school in southern Thailand, killing three students and sparking a riot by angry Muslim villagers, officials said Sunday.

Shortly after the attack, three Buddhists were shot dead in the same district, raising fears that a festering insurgency that has already taken more than 2,000 lives could erupt into open combat between the Muslim and Buddhist communities.

Attackers hurled explosives and sprayed dozens of bullets into a dormitory of the Bamrungsart Pondok boarding school, where about 75 boys were sleeping, killing a 12-year-old and two 14-year-olds, police Col. Thammasak Wasaksiri said.

Seven other teenagers were wounded in the attack in the Sabayoi district of Songkhla province, he said. ...

The southern Muslim provinces have hundreds of religious Islamic schools, and authorities have accused some of them of harboring insurgents and serving as a training ground for violence.

Lt. Gen. Wirot Buacharun, the army commander in charge of the restive provinces, said security forces had recently raided an Islamic school and confiscated an M-16 assault rifle, bullets, a computer containing suspicious material and other documents believed to be linked to the insurgency.

"This leads us to believe that religious schools are involved with the ongoing violence," he said Sunday, adding that he would urge the government to revoke subsidies for the schools or close some of them.
