MAJOR TALEBAN OPPONENT ASSASSINATED - is a major terrorist attack next?

I will never forget that the jihadoterrorists assassinated Northern Alliance leader Massoud on September 9th. NOW THIS (BBC):

Suspected Taleban militants have ambushed and killed an influential pro-government figure in Afghanistan. The former governor of Ghazni province, Mullah Taj Mohammad, also known as Qari Baba, was shot dead near his home in Batta, in the Andar district. ... The former governor was a militia chief who fought against the Soviet occupation in the 1980s, and later opposed the Taleban government. In a separate incident, gunmen also attacked a prison governor in Nawa district of Ghazni, but the man survived.

Correspondents say suspected Taleban militants appear to be targeting prominent pro-government officials, as they step up their attacks in southern and eastern Afghanistan.

I suspect that these attacks in Afghanistan (together woith the recent messages from Zawahiri and Bin laden) might herald major coordinated attacks - not in Europe, but in "apostate" Afghanistan and Iraq and Saudi Arabia.

A few nights ago Larry had a panel talk about Iraq for a half hour. His panel included the editor of Leftist weekly THE NATION - Katrina Vanden Heuvel, and and editor from TIME - Michael Weiskopf. These two members of the BDS-afflicted anti-war crowd (and their comrade Senator Feinstein) were in GRAND FORM: spewing lies and disinformation with every syllable! Here are a few of them - fisked for your convenience:

(1) The idiot ass--le editor of THE NATION doesn't even know the difference between an air assault and an air strike, or terror instigated sectarian violence and out-and-out civil war; in fact, these remarks reveal that she probably doesn't accept that there's a difference between terrorism and the justifiable use of force against terrorists which may SOMETIMES yield some collateral damage! I report; you decide:

You know, Larry, the intensification of airstrikes has been going on for five months. Seymour Hersh has reported that in the "New Yorker." But I think this is a sign of desperation, a sign of desperation, a war that is un- winnable that is unlawful, unnecessary.

[WRONG: Operation Swarmer was an air assault, not an air strike; no bombs or missiles were launched at all. ZERO. An air assault is when you AIR LIFT IN TROOPS.]

This is ambiguous because "should" can mean BOTH "in all likelihood (because things are going well)" or "should" as in "it is a moral imperative to bring them out this year, no matter what." Some soldiers might think the latter but, most think the former. Add them together and you get 72%.

(c) the "occupation" is pursuant to a UNSC resolution - passed after the war - and pursuant to the invitation of the constitutional government of Iraq. We are both INVITED by a majority of Iraqis and REQUIRED by international law to be there.]

So, I think this is a sign of desperation and it is a very important moment to assess the need to begin to find a way out with honor and dignity for Iraqis and for Americans who are serving there.

repeal the tax cuts; abandon our Iraqi allies as they struggle to forge the first Arab democracy (as they abandoned the South Vietnamese and the Contras in the 1970's); cut funding to the Pentagon and force an immediate withdrawal from Iraq - er um I mean "redeployment"; cut the funding for GITMO and close it down, end CIA renditions; end funding for National Missile Defense; repeal - or totally gut - the Patriot Act; end the doctrine of preemptive war and announce we will only retaliate after an attack; curtail surveillance of the enemy by the FBI, CIA and the NSA; raise taxes on gasoline, Wal-Mart, the pharmaceuticals and all the oil companies. And also... be prepared for two years of impeachment hearings.

Only Feingold and the Moveon.com'ers will admit this, though. The rest of the Dems will LIE and pretend they aren't what they really are: doves/(appeasers), redistributionists/(socialists), and secular hedonists.

WHY DEMS ARE ANGRY WITH RUSS: FEINGOLD EXPOSED THEIR SECRET PLAN

Only two Senators have some out in favor of Feingold's censure resolution. The Democrat leadership has largely been silent - or OBLIQUE: Tonight on televison news, I saw Pelosi answer a question about the Feingold Resolution by saying that that censure wasn't going to happen now, but that "elections have consequences" - she was implying that if the Democrats take over they will DEFINITELY FORMALLY ATTACK BUSH EITHER WITH CENSURE OR IMPEACHMENT.

All Feingold's resolution did was make this secret plan clear. Which has really pissed off most of the Democrats in Congress. THANKS RUSS!

Instead of attacking our President in a time of war, why don't the Democrats come up with an alternative plan for the Iraq War or Iran or Korea? Because the ideology which informs the Democrat analysis of problems and potential policies to solve them - LEFTISM - has been completely discredited, and offers no answers, only past failures. OUR "THREE-WAY CULTURE WAR"

IRAQ DOCUMENTS PROVE AL QAEDA WAS ACTIVE IN IRAQ BEFORE THE INVASION

John Negroponte has finally begun releasing the captured Iraqi Intelligence Service papers that the US has held since Baghdad fell almost three years ago, after pressure from the White House and Congress. In one of the first releases by the intelligence chief, the papers reveal that not only did al-Qaeda exist in Iraq before the invasion but that they had an active and successful recruitment program to bring new Iraqi fighters to Afghanistan:

... AQ had established itself in Iraq long before our March 2003 invasion. Moreoever, we have established that they had actively recruited fighters to attack Americans in Afghanistan. Both of those conditions would have warranted our invasion of Iraq as a continuance of the war on terror. After all, we had pledged to go after AQ wherever they had established themselves, and equally as important, we would have to cut off the flow of new fighters into the Afghanistan theater.

... Interestingly, for those who consistently deny that Abu Musab al-Zarqawi was in Iraq and working for AQ before the invasion, the document itself has numerous pictures of the bloody terrorists.

These were collected by Iraqi intelligence in connection with their investigation of AQ in 2002. That is a strong indication that Zarqawi had indeed operated in Iraq and that the Iraqis considered him a significant component of AQ.

So, contrary to what the Left says, the Iraq War is deeply related to The Long War. Defeating the enemy in Iraq will be a huge step toward our ultimate victory.

Federal prosecutors have decided to bring charges against a Democratic researcher accused of fraudulently obtaining a credit report on Maryland Lt. Gov. Michael S. Steele, now a Republican candidate for U.S. Senate. Lauren B. Weiner, who has since resigned from the Democratic Senatorial Campaign Committee in Washington, will be charged with obtaining the report without authorization, according to a letter sent to Steele by the U.S. attorney's office in the District.

This CRIMINAL worked directly for Chuck Schumer - who runs the DSCC and has been absolutely silent on the matter. BTW: this is one of literally DOZENS of indictments against DEMOCRATS nationwide for a wide range of criminal political shenanigans from fraud to vandalism.

MAN-MADE GLOBAL WARMING HYSTERIA IS BOGUS

There's been a lot in the MSM about global warming lately; many articles about atmospheric CO2 levels rising; and the rate at which the ice sheets are melting. These hysterics are meant to incite us to pass Draconian measures - as if this was the only way to "save the earth."

Well, it's all just more hysterical Leftist BS!First of all let's look at the CO2 numbers:

In its first Greenhouse Gas Bulletin, to be an annual publication, the WMO said that in 2004 carbon dioxide levels in the atmosphere stood at 377.1 parts per million (ppm), 35 percent higher than in the pre-industrial age before 1750.

And NOAA chimed in with this:

the concentration of carbon dioxide in the atmosphere climbed to a record 381 parts per million last year, an increase sure to spark further debate on global warming.

The reading was up 2.6 parts per million, according to preliminary calculations, David J. Hofmann of the Office of Atmospheric Research at the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration said Tuesday.

Let's look at those numbers CRITICALLY:

(1) a 2.6 PARTS PER MILLION increase is 1/2 of 1% increase in the level of CO2 - OR, an increase of .000026 % of the overall amount of additional gaseous matter in the earth's atmosphere. This is statistically INSIGNIFICANT.

(2) In 1750 there were 800 million people in the world(this is the HIGH END estimate). There are 6 billion people now - that's 7.5 TIMES as many people. And the average length of life is twice as long, too. It would be unreasonable to claim that we should have the same "carboin footprint" now as then; it would be STUPID. Therefore this copmparison is MEANINGLESS and IRRELEVANT. The comparison is offered ONLY to make the most dramatic and hysterical case.

(3) CO2 levels have steadily increased since 1900, but global warming HAS NOT. Global temperatures rose from 1900-40, and then sank from 1940-1970, and have been rising since 1970. If CO2 were determinative of global warming then the global temperature rise between 1940 and 1970 COULD NOT HAVE OCCURRED. This FACT is dispositive; it PROVES CO2 is NOT CAUSING GLOBAL WARMING. it also measn that any and all attempts at slowing global warming by reducing CO2 emissions IS A TOTAL WASTE OF TIME, RESOURCES AND MONEY.

(4) FINALLY: Global atmospheric CO2 measurements are NOT reliable.

SO WHY ARE THE LEFTISTS MAKING SUCH A BIG STINK OVER CO2!? SIMPLE:

(A) It allows the Left to harrangue against industrialism, and attack the USA as an evil nation greedily "OVER-CONSUMING" the earth's resources and despoiling the world.

(B) It allows the Left to call for HIGHER TAXES, to raise money for bureaucrats to dispense to THEIR favorite causes, organizations or nations. (This reinforces a most basic presupposition of Leftism: Leftists think that an elite should pick winners and losers, and that the course of human events should not be the result of free people making choices for themselves - the invisible hand of the marketplace.)

(C) It creates a huge and artificial "CARBON TRADING MARKETPLACE" where another elite of new-fangled "CO2 arbitragers" can make huge profits trading CO2 rights from the Third World to the industrialized First World. The rationale is that this creates income for poor Third World nations in a way which is "non-polluting."

In fact, (because there IS NO REAL GLOBAL CO2 problem), all it does it make the traders rich - while raising the cost of energy for everyone, as it garners income for CORRUPT THIRD WORLD REGIMES: The people of the Third World won't see BUPKUS of this income, just as they have seen NADA of all the BILLIONS of dollars of direct financial aid to their "governments" over the last several DECADES!

IN SHORT: The whole entire CO2 hysteria is a huge Leftist scam promoted by international bureaucrats, unscrupulous traders and irrational "earth-worshippers" who basically hate industry, capitalism and the USA.

AMONG THE MOST HYSTERICAL PREDICTIONS THESE LEFTIST FEAR-MONGERERS MAKE IS THAT GLOBAL WARMING WILL LEAD TO A MASSIVE RISE IN SEA-LEVEL AND GLOBAL COASTAL FLOODING, (AND THAT THIS IS A HUMONGOUS DISASTER BECAUSE MOST OF THE WORLD'S PEOPLE LIVE ON THE COAST.

Well, guess what!? THIS IS PURE BS, TOO! Here's an excerpt from a recent MSM article relating "the ice sheet is melting! the ice sheet is melting!" hysterics from NASA:

Following two recent studies on changes to Antarctic and Greenland ice sheets, NASA is touting a survey that it says confirms “climate warming is changing how much water remains locked in Earth’s largest storehouses of ice and snow.”

And this is also from NASA:

Scientists at NASA and the University of Kansas say the loss of ice from Greenland doubled between 1996 and 2005, as its glaciers flowed faster into the ocean in response to a generally warmer climate.

The study, according to a February 16 NASA press release, concludes the changes to Greenland's glaciers in the past decade are widespread, large and sustained over time. Further, the glacial change is progressively affecting the entire ice sheet and increasing its contribution to global sea level rise.

And THE UK-TIMES get ysterical, too: "Coastal cities could disappear as glaciers melt faster than predicted -

THE quantity of ice dumped into the ocean by Greenland’s glaciers has doubled over the past five years, suggesting that global warming will cause sea levels to swell more quickly than predicted...."

In fact, Greenland and the Antarctic are - because of "global warming" seeing an INCREASE of INTERIOR SNOWFALLS, and this will temper the loss of ice to melting, somewhat - BBC:

Sea levels are currently rising at about 1.8mm per year, largely because ice sheets in polar regions are melting, the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC) has said.

However, the panel also predicted that global warming would lead to an increase in snow fall over the Antarctic, because warmer air leads to more evaporation and precipitation.

Scientists from both sides of the Atlantic tested this theory by analysing the thickness of Antarctica's central ice sheets, using satellite radar altimetry measurements. They discovered that East Antarctica thickened at an average rate of 1.8cm per year between 1992 and 2003. The region, which covers 75% of Antarctica's total land area, holds 85% of the total ice volume.

Then there's this:

Scientists using satellite data to analyze thickness changes in the Greenland Ice Sheet have discovered that the amount of snow falling on the ice sheet interior actually increased by as much as 6 cm per year for the years 1992-2003, even as the edges of the ice sheet thinned. Changes in a regional atmospheric circulation pattern, the North Atlantic Oscillation (NAO), seem to be responsible for the snowfall increase. It's not clear what these findings might mean for long-term climate trends, but a temporary increase in regional snowfall is not inconsistent with global warming scenarios.

In other words: snowfall is NOW ACTUALLY increasing in the interiors of BOTH Greenland and Antarctica; this off-sets - somewhat - the coastal ice-melt; this replensihes the glaciers.

But even if this were not the case - even if interior snow were not increasing at a rate that would completely off-set the ice-melt (and there is DEBATE about this) - would we REALLY suffer global flooding due to sea-level rising!? NOPE:

... the popular press got a another case of Global Warming vapors over the weekend when NASA reported that over the past three years, Antarctica has been melting "at the rate of 152 cubic kilometers (plus or minus 80 cubic kilometers) per year over the past three years."

For instance: According to the government of Australia, Antarctica is about 13,661,000 square kilometers in area. The Aussies further inform us that the ice is about 4 km thick so - counting on our fingers and toes - we multiply the surface area (13,661,000), times the depth (4) and we get a pretty big number: 54,664,000 cubic kilometers. That's over 54 MILLION cubic kilometers. With me so far? Ok, now let's divide the total amount of ice (54,664,000) by the amount which is melting each year (152) to see how long it will take for the last ice cube to disappear into the sea.

Assuming we are still counting years the same way, it will be Frozen Margaritaville for the continent sometime in the year 361,506. Ok, the big deal with this calamitous melting is the amount of ice which is being released into the ocean equaling, as we have seen, the volume of Lake Tahoe. The actual number is .4 millimeters per year. Four-tenths of a millimeter. Four-tenths of a millimeter equals just a hair - a very, very thin hair - over .015 inches - fifteen thousandths of an inch. Each and every year.

So, in a thousand years, the melting of the Antarctic snow cone will raise sea levels by … fifteen inches.

FIFTEEN INCHES IN A THOUSAND YEARS. Hmmm.... So, if Manhattan is 12 feet above sea-level NOW, then in one thousand years it will still be more than 10 feet above sea-level. In conclusion:

I. GLOBAL WARMING leading to ICE SHEET MELTING = NO BIG DEAL.

II. Global warming is probably not man-made, and it will not adversely affect humanity for thosuands of years.

III. The Draconian measures Leftist are proposing are (a) not necessary and (b) raising the cost of energy for everyone unnecessarily (something which hurts poor people MOST!), and (c) diverting resources from where the marketplace would freely put them, and (d) empowering bureaucrats - especially international UNELECTED ones! Finally (e) the measures the Leftists are proposing would be ENTIRELY INNEFFECTIVE at slowing global wroming becasue man-made CO2 (and other greenhouse gases) have NOTHING TO DO WITH GLOBAL WARMING. (Global warming may very well be the result of solar changes we cannot possibly effect.)

THERFORE: We should fight against the "man-made global warming crowd" with everything we've got.

CLOONEY spits out more Left-wing nonsense in a post at HUFFINGTON, titled "I Am a Liberal. There, I Said It!" In it he attacks Democrats who voted for the resolution authorizing Bush to attack Saddam. Essentially, he calls their vote for the resolution a "profile in cowardice."

And I'll give this much to Clooney: he might very well be right about most Democrats; they might truly be doves who were too cowardly to vote that way. And Clooney deserves credit for saying this and then forthrightly proclaiming himself essentially a Leftie appeaser and a dove (though he calls himself a liberal).

In fact, he opens his post by proudly asserting that he's a "liberal" - and then he ties his attack on the cowardly Democrats and on Bush and the War in Iraq to previous, historical Leftist attacks which he thinks were good and noble.

By doing this, he unknowingly proves that the Left was wrong then, and they're wrong now. Here's what he wrote:

WRONG. WRONG. WRONG. Here is the truth:

1 - The Vietnam War was NOT A MISTAKE, abandoning our South Vietnamese allies was a mistake. The truth is, the Vietnam War was a noble war - and one we were winning.

The South Vietnamese were fighting largely on their own when the DEMOCRAT LIBERALS in Congress pulled the plug on them in 1975 - that's TWO YEARS AFTER ALL U.S. TROOPS HAD BEEN WITHDRAWN!

This financial ABANDONMENT of the emerging democracy in South Vietnam led to their collapse against an INVASION by the North Vietnamese Marxist tryants - in violation of the Paris Peace Accord. This led directly to 2 million Vietnamese refugees - The Boat people - fleeing Marxist oppression. Another 500,000 South Vietnamese were put into "re-education camps" - (real "GULAGS," not like Gitmo). And, the collapse of South Vietnam led directly to the victory of Pol Pot in Cambodia and to the 3.5 MILLION people murdered there by Pol Pot's Marxist tryanny - THUS PROVING THAT THE DOMINO THEORY WAS TRUE.

(YUP: THE DOMINO THEORY - A MAJOR REASON FOR OUR INVOLVEMENT IN THE VIETNAM WAR, WAS TRUE. AND AFTER VIETNAM FELL, SO DID OTHER NATIONS IN SE ASIA, AND SOON AFTER, SO DID AFGHANISTAN. If we had stuck by our allies in the South of Vietnam - the way we have our allies in South Korea, then today the South Vietnamese would be as rich and as free as South Koreans instead of being as tyrannized and as poor as North Koreans!

NEED MORE PROOF THAT WE WERE RIGHT? HERE:

The Vietnamese communist tyrants - who TODAY still throw people in jail for just trying to exercise their human rights, like freedom of expression! - are now BEGGING for USA investment. YUP: the Vietnamese now WANT THE USA TO INVEST IN VIETNAM!

2 - McCarthy was NOT wrong, and he was not on a "witchhunt".

McCarthy was ONLY trying to expose communists, and communist sypathizers in the State Department and the US Army. AND GUESS WHAT? There were Soviet agents in the Army and the State department. Since the collpase of the USSR, this has all been proved. Hiss WAS a spy. The Rosenbergs were SPIES. And so were all the other people McCarthy exposed.

Contrary to what Clooney, and other misinformed Lefties think, McCarthy had NO INVOLVEMENT in the Hollywood "blacklist" or any other Congressional effort to combat the American communists. McCarthy was NOT even on the House Un-American Activities Committee. REMEMBER: he was a SENATOR! And remember: witchhunts are bad because there's no such thing as witches. But there were communists infiltrating our government. Soviet agents in our Army and State Department were a real threat. People - like Clooney - who call the hunt for these Soviet agents a "witchhunt" are wrong.

3 - Contrary to what Clooney and othe Loony Lefties think, Saddam had numerous ties to al Qaeda and other jihadoterrorist groups. This has been proven over and over again.

SURE: SADDAM HAD NO PROVEN TIES TO 9/11 - BUT THIS IS A LEFT-WING SMEAR AND A RED-HERRING: Bush NEVER SAID SADDAM HAD TIES TO 9/11.

NEED PROOF?! Well, Bush asked for - and got - a SEPARATE RESOLUTION TO ATTACK SADDAM. (This is the resolution which many Democrats supported - at the time - and this is the resolution which Clooney says they should have voted against, and would have if they had the courage of their convictions.)

BUT, IF BUSH HAD REALLY ASSERTED SADDAM WAS CONNECTED TO 9/11 - (AS CLOONEY INSINUATES) - THEN BUSH DID NOT NEED TO GET A SEPARATE RESOLUTION TO ATTACK HIM; HE COULD HAVE JUST USED THE SEPTEMBER 2001 AUMF WHICH AUTHORIZED THE POTUS TO ATTACK THE PERPETRATORS OF 9/11 AND THEIR AFFILIATES.

And if Clooney and other Leftie doves actually bothered to read the 2002 Iraq War Resolution and Bush's speech to the UN General Assembly in September of 2002, then they'd discover that WMD's were only one of nearly two-dozen reasons to attack and depose Saddam.

And these reasons are nearly all "classically liberal" - which is to say "neo-con"; that is, based on the idea that all people EVERYWHERE deserve to be free. This is what we're fighting for in Iraq. And this is what classical liberals like FDR and Truman and JFK believed in - and, they all believed that sometimes you have to fight a war over it.

I think the answer might be that the Germans - and the other Euroweenies who appease radical Islam - are hypocritical idiots whose denial of reality actually endangers themselves: They prosecute Scientology precisely because it is LESS threatening than radical Islam.

2 - FACT: The EU has strict laws about hate speech and slander and liable. FACT: Italy is prosecuting Oriana Fallaci over some things she wrote about the "ROP." FACT: What she wrote is less hateful and has inspired less hate and fewer crimes than the stuff in the Koran which the radical Muslims quote and which inspires them to commit genocidal terror; even Irshad Manji admits that these radical Muslim terrorists are LITERALISTS - meaning they are literally correct in citing the Koran as their inspiration because the Koran LITERLALY calls on them to act as they act, and do as they do.
