4 hostages rescued in Gaza

Some very fortunate news has just come up, as at least 4 hostages were rescued from the Gaza area:

On Saturday morning, in a joint IDF, ISA and Israel Police (Yamam) complex, special, daytime operation in Nuseirat, four Israeli hostages were rescued.

Noa Argamani (25), Almog Meir Jan (21), Andrey Kozlov (27), and Shlomi Ziv (40), were kidnapped by the Hamas terrorist organization from the 'Nova' music festival on October 7th.

The hostages were rescued by the IDF, ISA and Yamam counterterrorism forces from two separate locations in the heart of Nuseirat.

They are in good medical condition and have been transferred to the Sheba Tel-Hashomer Medical Center for further medical examinations.

"The security forces will continue to make every effort to bring the hostages home," the statement stressed.

Thank goodness and the Lord for bringing about this rescue. Now, let's hope others will turn up alive and be saved from captivity as well.

Update: more information to consider:

Argamani, has been one of the most widely recognized hostages since she was abducted from a music festival in southern Israel. The video of her abduction was among the first to surface, images of her horrified face widely shared — Argamani detained between two men on a motorcycle, one arm outstretched and the other held down as she screams “Don’t kill me!”

Her mother, Liora, has stage four brain cancer and in April released a video pleading to see her daughter before she dies.

Let's hope that now, she can see her daughter and have a good reunion.

RUSSIA'S NEW SHARI'A-BASED CREDIT CARD SYSTEM

As Russia returns the world to Cold War status, they also seem to be taking steps to provide shari'a benefits for their Islamic population, which, if we think of Russia as a European country, is the largest in the continent (may number at about 25 million). Now, they've issued shari'a compliant credit cards for their own Muslim population (via Dhimmi Watch):

For the first time ever in the banker history in Russia special plastic cards for Muslims are now available for the followers of Islam. The cards are produced by one of the largest banks of the Republic of Dagestan of the RF.

The special feature of the cards is zero annual percent. It is known that Islam prohibits usury and the Muslim religion is against its followers getting profit from keeping money somewhere.

According to the pushful bank representatives, the cards are already gaining popularity with the Muslim republic citizens who previously to becoming a bank’s client had to write a paper confirming that they refused getting deposit percentage.

I've got a feeling that, as Russia continues to veer back to Cold War status, that Muslims there will continue to influence the country, and just like in Britain, money bonds for shari'a could be issued there.

Rowan Williams, the Archbishop of Canterbury, caused a furore recently when he said some aspects of Sharia law were ‘unavoidable’ in the UK.

Only time will tell whether that is the case, but what is happening quietly in the bowels of the City of London is the rise of Sharia - or Islamic – finance.

It is not that the moneymen have had a religious conversion. Rather, there is the realisation that there is profit to be made from in the Middle East and south-east Asia from massive infrastructure projects fuelled by oil-driven financial liquidity.

...The last few years have seen an explosion in Islamic finance in the UK. In 2004 the Organisation for Economic Cooperation and Development saw the establishment of the Islamic Bank of Britain, the first wholly Islamic retail bank. This was followed in 2006 by the European Islamic Investment Bank.

Both HSBC and Lloyds TSB have expanded their Islamic finance in the UK.

Even CIMA recently launched a Certificate in Islamic Finance. It offers ‘comprehensive skills’ in areas including Sharia compliance and ‘the complexities of the contracts that underpin this compliance’.

CIMA’s John Willsdon, who runs the course, said: ‘Islamic finance has caught the imagination of a great many people across the world. There is no doubt that the oil wealth amassed in the Middle East and South East Asia has given a tremendous impetus to this relatively new niche in the market.’

Since the launch in December last year, more than 50 students from 13 countries have studied for the certificate.

TRAVEL MOLE:

The Islamic hospitality market, or Sharia-compliant hotels, is pegged to be one of the fastest growing hospitality segments, according to Jonathan Worsley conference co-organiser, Arabian Hotel Investment Conference (AHIC).

He said that Dubai-based hospitality group Almulla Hospitality, has recently launched its Sharia-compliant hotel portfolio, comprising three brand tiers.

The group has also cited plans to target development in Saudi Arabia, UAE, Jordan, Egypt and Malaysia in the first instance, with Thailand and Europe following closely behind.

“Almulla joins other UAE-based players including Shaza Hotels from Kempinski and Tamani Hotels & Suites from KM Group among others,” he said.

Rotana too has tickled the sector recently launching Rayhaan Hotels & Resorts with an offer-specific ‘no-alcohol’ label.

Almulla Hospitality’s chairman, Abdulla Almulla, said that the demand for Sharia-compliant accommodation is on the increase and represents 10 per cent of the world tourism market.

DATAMONITOR: Principle Insurance: a newly FSA authorized Sharia compliant insurer

The FSA has authorized the UK's first independent takaful insurer, Principle Insurance.

Principle Insurance has become the UK's first Sharia compliant independent insurance company to be formally authorized by the FSA. The insurer will operate in accordance with Islamic laws, through which it will target the UK's estimated two million Muslims in the home and motor markets. In this way, the company is demonstrating a different approach to segmenting the insurance markets.

The FSA has given formal authorization for Principle Insurance to operate as an insurance company in the UK. The company will trade in compliance with Sharia Islamic laws in regards to financial services, which prevent accruing interest and some forms of investment. As such, Principle Insurance will operate along the lines of typical cooperative mutual insurers already present in the market.

While the insurer is not the first in the UK market with a Sharia compliant offering - HSBC already markets takaful insurance products - it is the first independent company set up to be fully compliant with Islamic law in the UK.

SHARI'A MONEY BONDS IN BRITAIN

Well, it looks like Daniel Pipes may be right: Britain is continuing its slow walk towards the Islamic brink by issuing Shari'a bonds (via LGF):

A new sharia law controversy erupted last night over Government plans to issue special "Islamic bonds" to pay for Gordon Brown's public-spending programme by raising money from the Middle East.

Britain is to become the first Western nation to issue bonds approved by Muslim clerics in line with sharia law, which bans conventional loans involving interest payments as "sinful".

The scheme would mark one of the most significant economic advances of sharia law in the non-Muslim world.

It will lead to the ownership of Government buildings and other assets currently belonging to British taxpayers being switched wholesale to wealthy Middle-Eastern businessmen and banks.

The Government sees sharia-compliant bonds as a way of tapping Middle-East money and building bridges with the Muslim community.

But critics say the scheme would waste money and could undermine Britain's financial and legal systems.

Senior Conservative MP Edward Leigh, chairman of the Commons Public Accounts Committee, said: "I am concerned about the signal this would send – it could be the thin end of the wedge.

"British Common Law must be supreme and should apply to everyone."

A spokesman for the National Secular Society said: "There are lots of different ways to arrange financing.

"Constructing financial instruments to be sharia-compliant seems to me to involve a lot of unnecessary complication, which will serve only to make a lot of lawyers very rich."

And Islamic clerics too, I'm afraid.

Just when you thought it was safe to go back into the water...a reminder that the enemy does not forget: Danish Police (+PET) arrested a group of extremists who planned on assassinating one of the artists behind the famous Muhammad Cartoons.

Simultaneously, street battles between gangs of muslim youths and the police and fire brigades have been waged over the last two nights in the Norrebro and Vesterbro sections of Copenhagen.

This conflict started after the police supposedly roughed up an elderly Palestinian man---but no one has been able to find him or otherwise confirm that story.

The fact is these gangs are trying to create a NO-GO zone for the authorities...

Barak Obama's Cousin Leads Opposition In Violent Kenya

Kenyan opposition leader Raila Odinga and Barak Obama are cousins.
In an interview with Reuters, Odinga said Barak called him twice one day last week to express his concern over the violent situation in Kenya since Odinga lost the elections.

But, the situation does not look like it is improving any.

The opposition claims the election was rigged in favour of President Mwai Kibaki. A US foundation's exit poll predicted that President Kibalki had lost the election.

When Raila Odinga lost the presidential election last week (12/27) to Mwai Kibaki, he claimed the vote was rigged, whereupon his tribal followers went on murderous rampages such as in the town of Eldoret, where on New Years Day dozens of people were burned to death in a church set on fire...
