The Europeans seem to be confused about who the victims are (Israelis who want to live in peace, but are surrounded by Hamas and other terrorist organizations), and who the perpetrators are (the Palestinians who celebrated when they heard about the 911 attacks on America).

Islam is a spin-off religion of Judaism. The Muslim prophet Mohammed claimed to have been given the “New Book” of God, The Koran, by the archangel Gabriel (an angel of the Jewish faith). Mohammed declared Islam as the new true faith of God and the followers of Islam as the new chosen people of God. Islam is built upon the religion and traditions of the Jews; using their stories and religious figures to concoct their own brand of faith. Of course this makes the followers of the original faith, from which Mohammed branched off from, the primary threat to his credibility. Mohammed wasted no time murdering and pillaging Jews who refused his new gospel.
As the Islamic faith grew and the numbers of its members have swelled over the past millennium and a half, it could easily be plausible that Islam was now the new true faith; usurping Judaism and Christianity as the true religion of the one true God. The Muslim conquests all over the globe surely encouraged the idea that God was truly with Islam. Islamic faith conquered Asia, Europe and Africa. Islam was by all intensive purposes, legitimate. It was encouraged and supported by God.
That, of course, was before the creation of the state of Israel. That single act, to this day, undermines and threatens Islam to its core. If Islam is the one true faith of God, then why has God allowed the Jews back in control of Israel? Is it possible that they are still the chosen people of God? Is it possible that God never abandoned his original flock? Is it possible that, Islam and its entire system of beliefs is a sham?
This is what Israel represents to Islam; a threat to the core of its existence. When a country as small as Israel, and a religion with such few followers as Judaism, can take on and protect themselves from a religion like Islam, with a billion people and 12+ countries, that country becomes a threat to their Islamic lifestyle and their system of beliefs. It is disturbing to the psyche of the entire Muslim world. This is the source of the strife. Islam, ultimately, will not rest until Israel ceases to exist, because Israel undermines their entire religion.

To give yourself a microcosmic understanding of the relationship, educate yourself on the history of, The Dome of the Rock. An Islamic holy site built upon the 2nd Jewish temple of the Jews. The holiest of holy sites of the Jews was stolen and converted into a Muslim holy site, a territorial pissing of sorts. It is symbolic of Islam’s conquering of Israel. To this day, Jews are not allowed to enter their own holy site.
