He forgot he is supposed to be an American — and, having taken the oath of office, as a public servant in the United States Congress?

Ellison took the oath, at least symbolically, on the Koran. Allah and the ummah come first and foremost for him.
And what kind of sermon was preached at the Haj?

he can eother fulfil his oath of office or the koran, but not both.
maybe he should be a member of the "parliament" in saudi arabia or kuwait or iraq or afghanistan, but not the usa.
only dissident muslims - who openly chastize the religion - can possibly be able to serve both the constitution and ther religion.
IMO, Ellison has made his choice. And it's not the Constitution.
He's also called for some 8000 Moslems to join the Obama administration in various positions. Moslems - specifically.
Can you imagine the furor if a government official called for Christians to apply in a similar manner? The hue and cry would be heard on every news broadcast.
I have looked but can find nowhere that Ellison condemns the chants of death to America and Israel.

I bet the founding fathers would have loved the "choose Islam or the constitution" test-of-office being espoused in this thread, to say nothing at all about the opinion of it of the political "moderates" that the GOP continues to hemorrhage.

There's a world of difference between Islam and Catholicism.
And, for the record, nobody in my circle back in the 1950s and 1960s had any "religious" objections to JFK, though most in my circle at that time were Protestants.
Also, for the record, I'm not registered as a Republican. Rather, I, as most of my circle then and now, am registered as an Independent.
