WHY ISN'T THE USA GETTING RICH ON OIL - WE HAVE THE 11TH LARGEST RESERVES IN THE WORLD?!?
Well, one reason is that we haven't drilled for ANY oil in ANWR, or off the coast of California or off the coast of Florida for DECADES.
This means we are not reaping as much of the income off our PROVEN RESERVES as we might be. So our GDP is lowered, AND AS IF THAT WASN'T ENOUGH... as a result we must buy more from overseas -- a lot from folks like Chavez.
We are making our selves, OUR NATION, POORER - and other nations RICHER.
And many of those nations are friendlier to our enemies than to us, in a lot of ways...
We should put an end to their oil monopoly. And we can. YES, WE CAN! And it's safe and clean:
- Canada is drilling for oil right over the border from ANWR; their caribou don't mind; why should ours!?
- None of of the off-chore oil rigs leaked as a result of Katrina, so drilling off the coast of Florida is absolutely safe and clean.
- And the UK and Norway have been drilling in the North Sea for decades - which is much rougher than the pacific off the coast of California, so there's NO EXCUSE for NOT drilling there, too.
IT'S A WIN-WIN-WIN-WIN-WIN:
We make more money; we send less overseas to unsavory nations; we lower our costs and the energy costs of the whole world - and it doen;t harm the environment one iddy-biddy bit.
SO WHY DON'T WE DO THIS!?
- THE LIBERAL DEMOCRATS HAVE BLOCKED IT YEAR AFTER YEAR.
- THEY'RE THE MAIN REASON WE ARE SENDING SO MANY DOLLARS OVERSEAS FOR OIL, AND WHY IT'S SO EXPENSIVE.
Where's the leadership from Bush!?
WHY HASN'T MCCAIN SPOKEN OUT ABOUT THIS!?
Where's the freakin' Congressional GOP!?

Meanwhile, this morning's headline in the WaPo's "Business" section reads as follows:
"OPEC Says Member Won't Pump More Oil." One sentence in the article:
"...OPEC is more worried about pumping too much oil for weakening economies than it is about the possible harm that high prices might do to those economies."
The article also expresses OPEC's so-called concerned over the size of their reserves.
GWB has spouted his line about cutting back on oil consumption here in the States.
Well, I CANT'T cut back. My daily commute is 10 miles, round trip; and a tank of gas lasts weeks and weeks. However, my last heating bill (oil) was $1017--and that's with the thermostat set at 62 degrees.
On my daily commute, I see public-school buses running, running, running--regular route, field-trip routes, athletic trips, late buses, etc. I also see lots of government vehicles (fed and state) running around all over the place--doing God knows what; I'm not referring to police cars, either.
Our government is letting OPEC and the oil companies gouge us. And WE pay the salaries of our public servants.
Some talking head on CBS Morning News just now said, "All we need to do is for everybody to cut back on driving by 1/2 mile a day." I don't buy that.
LIBS REFLEXIVELY FEEL LESS FREEDOM IS ALWAYS THE ANSWER...
