Former French president Jacques Chirac and former German chancellor Gerhard Schroeder have arrived in the Russian Black Sea resort of Sochi on private visits, the Kremlin said on Sunday.
The ex-leaders traveled to Russia on the invitation of President Vladimir Putin, the Kremlin press office said.
On September 25, Schroeder will chair a shareholders' meeting in Sochi of Nord Stream AG, a company building a natural gas pipeline under the Baltic, of which the ex-chancellor is the supervisory chief.

The former French and German leaders Jacques Chirac and Gerhard Schroeder arrived at Russia's Black Sea coastal resort of Sochi on Sunday as guests of President Vladimir Putin, the Kremlin said. Contacted by AFP, a Kremlin spokesman described the visit of the former French president and the former German chancellor as "private" and confirmed they had been invited by Putin.
The Russian leader had close ties with both men during their terms in office, symbolised in their united front against the 2003 US-led invasion of Iraq. Schroeder was to attend a meeting in Sochi of the shareholders' committee of the Gazprom-led company that plans to build a pipeline under the Baltic Sea to Germany, the RIA Novosti news agency reported.
