U.S. TERROR THREAT: STOP WORRYING ABOUT EUROPE: ACT

You may have heard about the imminent threat of terror lately. If not, let's recap. Military intelligence has warned of a terror attack to dwarf 9/11 and right around the corner. So what's going on and where should the U.S. go from here?

Air Force Gen. Victor "Gene" Renuart has warned that there are terror cells right there in the country gathering momentum for a massive attack. When asked if it was likely to occur in the summer, he said that it could happen any day.
Michael Scheuer, a retired CIA veteran assigned to Bin Laden says that Washington has talked about security but it's just not there. You're going to love his point of view:

Despite the clear and present danger, Scheuer cites the federal government's failure to secure the borders, especially the U.S.-Mexico border.

"We haven't done the basic things that were needed on 9/11 to protect Americans to the greatest extent possible – and that is domestic border control," he says.

As a result, almost six years since the Sept. 11 attacks, America's law enforcement still does not know "who is in the country without a pool of illegals that increases by the hour."

Today, terrorists could strike with ease if they so choose. Scheuer points to the port of Houston, which could be easily targeted because of its refining operations.

On the global front of the war on terror, Scheuer offers a similar pessimistic view because the U.S. has never exercised the full clout of the "military option" to put down the insurgency in Iraq and deal with terrorists elsewhere.

Simply put, Scheuer says the U.S. is too worried about what Europe thinks of our policies and has not risen to the challenge we face from Muslim extremists.

OFFICIAL WISDOM: GETTING IT EXACTLY WRONG

There is no end to official policies that are eventually seen as getting it exactly wrong -- though this recent one is rather tragic -- and when normal cyclic global cooling comes, official acceptance of the warmist scare will be seen to be yet another such folly -- much like that other famous Greenie false prophecy: Paul Ehrlich's "population bomb".

But I think there is always room for another example of official folly so let me mention one that has taken place in my home town of Brisbane.

In the old days, lots of people in Brisbane had rainwater tanks for domestic use, as the town water was rather "hard". Eventually, however, the town water improved and the tanks fell out of favour. But there were still a lot of them around. The local council eventually took notice of this and concluded that the old tanks were a health hazard. So it sent inspectors around telling people to pull down their old tanks on pain of prosecution. My neighbour over the road was one of those threatened and he did pull his tank down.

Now, however, Greenie opposition to dam building has ensured that Brisbane has a water shortage. So what is the council doing? Offering people $1,000 grants to install rainwater tanks! My bemused neigbour has signed up and reinstalled a rainwater tank roughly where his old tank used to be.

Betting that official wisdom is in fact official folly is probably the best bet in all circumstances. It is only official meddling in people's daily lives that caused the Brisbane rainwater tank fiasco. But the meddlers will always think that they know best. Don't believe them. It is almost certain that they will do more harm than good.

My FOOD & HEALTH SKEPTIC blog reports almost daily examples of know-alls who are getting it wrong. The whole concept of a "healthy" diet is fundamentally flawed, for instance. Who these days has not absorbed the message that a low-fat diet is healthier? The supermarkets are full of low-fat foods and the great sin of McDonalds is that their food is "high in fat". Yet a huge recent U.S. study of 50,000 people costing $400 million and lasting 8 years found absolutely no effect on health of a low-fat diet. Don't believe me? Fear trumps integrity among Leftists

They barely know what integrity is. Short excerpt below

There is a phenomena of the self hating Jew, an individual who denies his or her own identity, culture and faith, and seeks to identify and support those who make no secret of their own pathological agendas, directed against Jews. The pathology of the self hating Jew is not new. Jews were attracted to communism and socialism, because someone said, "We are all equal. You are a comrade." For the first time, Jews believed they were to be `free.' After centuries of relentless oppression the idea was intoxicating.

After the horrors of the Second World War were made clear, there were a whole sub culture of Jews, even the children of Holocaust survivors that migrated to the self hating brigades. Why? Because those Jews believed that if they could be unlike the Jews (and more like their oppressors), then no one would come for them. They would be safe and secure. Surely the oppressors would see there were `good Jews' too, noted just evil and hated Jews.

The same is true today of leftists (Jews included) who believe that siding with the racist, bigoted and dysfunctional oppressors might save them from the destiny of those their new friends promise. They are the Kapos of this generation, willing to sacrifice their own so as to save themselves. Prewar German Jews could at least hope against hope that there would be no Holocaust. Leftists of today cannot argue ignorance.

Leftists today hate freedom and democracy because those ideas have created the environment for success. Assistant Village Idiot recently noted in a comment that Arabs don't hate us because we have succeeded, but rather, because they have failed. The same is true for the leftists- their burning hatred of democracy stems from their failure to create a single instance of a functioning society that isn't a least a generation behind our own. Not even the redistribution of wealth can make up for the values and freedom that create an environment that allows for the creation of wealth.

NEW DELHI (AFP) - India's first woman president was sworn into office Wednesday and promised to fight for the rights of women and an end to the widespread practice of aborting female foetuses.

AFP adds:

India loses an average of 7,000 girls every day through abortions because of a traditional preference for sons, according to a Unicef report last year.

Abortions have also resulted in a severely skewed gender ratio in India, where there are only 927 females for every 1,000 males — far lower than the worldwide average of 1,050 females.

ARAB LEAGUE OFFICIAL-VISIT TO ISRAEL IS MORE PROOF THAT THE MIDDLE EAST IS PROGRESSING BECAUSE OF BUSH

The foreign ministers of Egypt and Jordan began a historic visit to Israel on Wednesday to formally present an Arab peace plan, saying they were extending ''a hand of peace'' on behalf of the region.

The ministers arrived as representatives of the Arab League, the first time the 22-member group has sent a delegation to the Jewish state. The Arab League peace plan envisions full recognition of Israel in return for evacuation of lands captured in the 1967 Middle East war.

''We are extending a hand of peace on behalf of the whole region to you, and we hope that we will be able to create the momentum needed to resume fruitful and productive negotiations'' between Israel and the Palestinians and the rest of the Arab world, Jordan's foreign minister, Abdul-Ilah Khatib, said at a news conference with Israeli President Shimon Peres.

THIS VISIT IS TRULY NEARLY AS MOMENTOUS AS sADAT'S.

This visit is more proof that Bush's bold foreign policy has begun to change the Middle East - for the better. The status quoists and "realists" would have never gotten Syria out of Lebanon or liberated Iraq or cajoled Libya out of her isolation.

UNIVERSITY OF COLORADO FINALLY COMES TO THEIR SENSES

It took forever but the University of Colorado finally fired Ward Churchill. The list of reprehensible things that Churchill has done are long, here are just a few:

Churchill touched off a firestorm in 2005 after an essay surfaced which he wrote shortly after 9/11 likening some victims in the World Trade Center to Adolf Eichmann, who helped carry out the Holocaust.

University officials concluded he could not be fired for his comments because they were protected by the First Amendment, but they launched an investigation into allegations that he fabricated or falsified his research and plagiarized the work of others.

In 2006, a university committee found Churchill guilty of academic misconduct, including plagiarism and a faculty panel recommended he be demoted and suspended for a year without pay. In May, CU President Hank Brown recommended Churchill be fired.

Churchill's lawyer called the University a "right-wing" University. After I got done laughing I realized that his definition of "right-wing" must be anyone that isn't to the left of Phil Donahue. Psycho!!

Early on in the CNN/YouTube-sponsored debate, a California resident posed these questions on his video:

"Mrs. Clinton, how would you define the word ‘liberal’? And would you use this word to describe yourself?”

Hillary answered:

"You know, it is a word that originally meant that you were for freedom, that you were for the freedom to achieve, that you were willing to stand against big power and on behalf of the individual.

"Unfortunately, in the last 30, 40 years, it has been turned up on its head and it's been made to seem as though it is a word that describes big government, totally contrary to what its meaning was in the 19th and early 20th century.

"I prefer the word ‘progressive,’ which has a real American meaning, going back to the progressive era at the beginning of the 20th century.

"I consider myself a modern progressive, someone who believes strongly in individual rights and freedoms, who believes that we are better as a society when we're working together and when we find ways to help those who may not have all the advantages in life get the tools they need to lead a more productive life for themselves and their family.

"So I consider myself a proud modern American progressive, and I think that's the kind of philosophy and practice that we need to bring back to American politics.”

Progressive, progressive, progressive. Yeah, sure, right... SHE IS FULL OF IT!
DON'T BE FOOLED!

REMEMBER: Marx felt his revolution would lead to a "DICTATORSHIP of the proletarian", not the democracy "of the people, for the people and by the people."

Marxism merely sought to exchange the dictatorial rule of one class over everyone else, with the dictatorial rule of another class over everyone else - seeking to replace the aristocracy with a politburo of intellectuals, (who would act on behalf of the "common good", and not their own - HA!).

All Leftist political movements - which all seek to centrally control free-markets and hence make them un-freemarkets - therefore must seek to curb personal freedom - the freedom to make and buy and sell what you want for the price you want - and replace that with the judgments of an elite - for whatever THEY think is the common good. Not what you think is right and good for you. Not what the freemarket decides is good. WHAT THEY SAY IS THE "COMMON GOOD."

Reducing the freedom of people cannot logically be called "progressive."

Progress can only be thought of as expanding the freedom of people.

That's why - since 1775 - all Leftist movements are ESSENTIALLY REACTIONARY.

The American Revolution was the last truly progressive revolution. It brought human rights and democracy into the world, stating that legitimate rule could only come from consent of the governed because we are each ENDOWED with right by the Creator; they are not deemed to us by the state.

People who want an elite (and not the freemarket) to determine the "true price" of oil or of tangerines or of labor are not "progressives"; they are neo-Marxists who should be consigned to the dustbin of history along with Mao & Red China and the Lenin & the USSR.

What makes it worse is that these neo-Marxists actually are in denial about what has a;ways been and remains the primary cause of MOST of the TRUE PROGRESS on the world: the greatest PROGRESS - in living standards and lifespans - has come in capitalist freemarket countries.

IN FACT, only after Red China largely abandoned Marxism and adopted freemarkets did it go from a starving economic basketcase to a food-exporting economic POWERHOUSE.

If that wasn't proof enough, the so-called "progressives" could look at Zimbabwe - which made the opposite journey. And look at Venezuela which is starting down the same so-called "progressive" Marxist path - the "road to serfdom", and will UNDOUBTEDLY have the same results.

If Leftist or liberal policies were truly progressive - as Hillary would like you to believe, then the USSR and "Red China" and North Korea and Cuba and Zimbabwe would be thriving.

Think about it. Don't fall for it. The Left is reactionary. Period.

California To Fund Bussard Fusion

Beryllium-8 very quickly (in 10-13 s) decays into two more helium-4 atoms. This is the only nuclear-energy releasing process in the whole world that releases fusion energy and three helium atoms -- and no neutrons. This reaction is completely radiation free.

It is not completely neutron free. However, the neutron production is minimal.

This is the break though in funding I have been looking for for the last nine months.

NEWSFLASH: ELIZABETH EDWARDS TAKES BRAVE AND PRINCIPLED POLITICAL STAND

She's giving up tangerines because, somehow, someway, (I can't be bothered, to be honest) they contribute to global warming.

UPDATE: OK, my curiosity got the best of me. She is "sacrificing", as we all must. Here's the deal, tangerines are not grown locally. We must support locally-grown fruits and vegetables, because they have a smaller carbon-footprint.

In order to encourage such support of local fruits, we must tax the hell out of those damned foreigner fruits.

Therefore, Elizabeth Edwards, price-conscious consumer that she is, "will probably never eat another tangerine again."

It brings a tear to my eye, to be honest.

Britain Calls For Extradition Of Murders Of Its Citizen - Putin Calls This "Colonialist Thinking"

Vladimir Putin uses words in funny ways:


MOSCOW (Reuters) - Russian President Vladimir Putin on Tuesday denounced Britain's demands for the extradition of a suspect in the killing of Alexander Litvinenko as insulting and a relic of its colonial thinking.

"What they propose is an obvious vestige of colonial thinking," Putin was shown saying on Russian state television.

"They must have clearly forgotten that Britain is no longer a colonial power, there are no colonies left and, thank God, Russia has never been a British colony," Putin said.

Asked for a reaction to Putin's comments, a Foreign Office spokesman in London told Reuters: "We continue to look for a willingness from the Russian authorities to work constructively with us to bring this crime, committed in the UK, to justice in a British court."

Russia has refused to extradite suspect Andrei Lugovoy to stand trial in London for the murder of Litvinenko, citing its constitution, which forbids the extradition of Russian citizens.

"They should better change their brains than our constitution," Putin said at a meeting with youth organizations outside Moscow.

Equality not needed for happiness

James Taranto forwarded an article by Arthur C. Brooks of Syracuse University's Maxwell School. Professor Brooks makes several good arguments against the left's misguided obsession with income equality. In his research, Professor Brooks has found that inequality does not make poor people miserable and that:

"...the evidence reveals that it is not economic inequality that frustrates Americans. Rather, it is a perceived lack of opportunity. To focus our policies on inequality, instead of opportunity, is to make a serious error..."

Professor Brooks notes that some left wing academics hold that the wealthy should be taxed so that they will not work. The proponents of this theory believe that the only significance of high incomes is high earners' ability to make whoopee and spend money. This, of course, fails to grasp that high earners create consumer surplus, so that discouraging the productive wealthy from working would devastate national welfare.

Think of it this way. Let's say Albert Sabin and Jonas Salk had become wealthy as scientists. The left would argue that because they had made money in prior work, they should have been discouraged from doing further work because their high incomes might have been irritating to low-income Americans. However, the low-income Americans who would otherwise have suffered from polio might have been more irritated at the economists than at Sabin's and Salk's high incomes. Advocacy of broad policies based on narrow findings about reactions to income inequality puts academics making such generalizations into the quack category.

Brooks adds that the general level of happiness has not changed since 1972 and that economic mobility rather than equality creates happiness among Americans:

"An accurate and constructive vision of America sees a land of both inequality and opportunity, in which hard work and perseverance are the keys to jumping from the ranks of the have-nots to those of the haves. This vision promotes policies focused not on wiping out economic inequality, but rather on enhancing economic mobility."

PSYCHOPATHS: THE U.S. ARMY OR U.S. LEFTIST POLITICIANS?

There are a couple of blog posts here and here which give details of a recent Leftist attempt -- mainly on Daily Kos -- to smear the U.S. Army as psychopathic killers.

The article concerned relies entirely on anecdote and therefore has no scholarly worth whatever. It picks out a set of criminals and says: SEE! All these served in the army. So the army creates criminals. You can of course prove anything that way. One could equally pick out a set of former army men who undertook charity work and say: SEE! All these served in the army. So the army creates angels.

The one substantial point the article has is that the incidence of soldiers who actually fire their weapons in battle has improved over the years. The author says that this is because the army has found ways to make men into machines. Military people would be rather surprised by that. The problem is a well known one and it was long ago noted that the problem was largely one of aiming. Men who were using automatic weapons fired much more frequently -- as such weapons can be effective even without much aiming. So one response has been to make available to the men more weapons capable of automatic fire. But more training in use of weapons is of course also effective. Many of the non-firers of the two world wars were conscripts with very little training. Additionally, the rate of fire will depend on the battlefield situation and the use of men as cannonfodder has declined over the last century. Men are now more likely to be put in situations where they can be individually effective.

And the idea that the U.S. army wants its men to be killer robots is truly laughable. It would be more accurate to say that the onerous ROE under which U.S. soldiers now operate make them the most restrained and cautious soldiers in all of military history. The army takes great pains to ensure that their soldiers DON'T fire unless absolutely necessary.

So the article is the sort of ignorance of the military that one expects from today's Left. But another sort of ignorance it displays is ignorance about psychopathy. As someone who has contributed a couple of research papers on psychopathy to the academic journals (See here and here), I may be in a better position than most to offer a quick summary of what is involved. The basic point is that psychopaths are born not made. The condition is highly hereditary and emerges from early childhood on. Any attempt to MAKE a person a psychopath is more likely to traumatize them deeply than anything else.

And one place where true psychopaths are likely to be found is in Leftist politics -- from Lenin, Stalin, Hitler, Mao and Pol Pol on. They are the ones who have no compunction about slaughtering other people en masse. And the basic underlying feature of psychopathy -- lack of any moral anchors -- is in fact glorified by Leftists as "postmodernism". Where have you heard "There is no such thing as right and wrong" before? And amoral men are very successful even in democratic Leftist politics -- with Bill Clinton being the standout example. But John Kerry and Barack Obama also have clear psychopathic characteristics. I go into the diagnosis of all three men in some detail here

We probably are not the first to blog on this - but hopefully we can give you a little background to another treasonous act of the Left.

Asmaa Abdol-Hamid is a candidate for a seat in the danish parliament. She was forced to leave the leftwing SocialistFolkeparti (SF) when she was unable to publicly distance herself from the death penalty and Sharia-law.

But she was welcomed with open arms by the most extreme leftist party in the Folketing - Enhedslisten (Ø).

Just yesterday Asmaa managed to grab headlines by declaring her support for Iraqis who attack, injure, maim or kill Danish troops stationed in Iraq.

Her argument was that it is legitimate for people to resist occupation.

It should come as no surprise to our readers that Asmaa is Danish/Palestinian - her argument mirrors the doublespeak employed for decades by the apologists for the terrorist murderers from Hizb'allah and Hamas.

Her statements have recently been defended by Enhedslisten's partychief comrade Frank Aaen, and convicted drug smuggler, Muhammed Cartoon Imam Abdul Wahid Pedersen.

These traitors try to justify the terrorist actions of foreign insurgents, supported by foreign powers, against peacekeeping forces present in Iraq upon the invitation of a democratically elected Iraqi government, and on a legal UN mandate, by characterizing it as resistance to occupation!

One thing must be clear - the enemies of democracy are not a clandestine movement- they are clearly arrayed before us.

They openly declare their contempt for democracy, the United Natons, and the Geneva conventions.

We must not be seduced by their lies nor may we ever let them regain control.

I swear to G-d!!! If any of these men (or Hillary) becomes president I am going to have to seriously consider prescription drugs. Paris, I mean, Anderson Cooper asks for a show of hands "Who took a private jet here tonight?" I knew, knew, knew that someone would not raise their hand and say they didn't do so because "they arrived last night." HA! So funny I forgot to laugh. Yes, it's really funny to lie like Bill Clinton isn't it? It's all just a big joke, right?

So they let people from YouTube (after some censoring) ask the candidates question. Naturally, you had some, shall we say, unorthodox questions and questioners. That doesn't bother me. It was to be expected. What does bother me is the fact that these people actually asked better questions than Chris Matthews when he's having a good day.

But what does it matter? It's not like these guys are debating the future. Best question of the night (whether he meant the double meaning or not): "Can you as politicians ... actually answer questions rather than beat around the bush?" They all lied and said "yes" but the answer was really "no." No, they're running against George W. Bush, whether it's Iraq, Katrina (don't get me started on that one) or...well, I guess that's it. The economy is dynamite. Anyway, how about a candidate that says "I don't think we should have gone to Iraq, but we did, and now we have to find a way to finish what we started." Nope, we're told by these geniuses that we shouldn't have invaded Iraq and now we need to leave Iraq and pretend it never happened. Hey, what's another Cambodia amongst friends, right? Hell, after we leave Iraq we can send Noam Chomsky over there to assure the world that utopia is at hand. Take that Michael Yon!!

See? The classics never die.

This group of "Democrats," "Liberals," "Progressives," or whatever Orwellian name they want to label themselves, are very, very dangerous. Now, despite my mood at this moment, I'm not prepared to say that if one of them is elected, our country is wrecked. Admit it, many of us thought this to be the case when Bill Clinton was elected, and indeed, his presidency was very damaging, but it goes to show you the amazing strength and resilience of the United States of America that it is able to survive anything thrown at it, whether it's Nazism or Leninism from overseas or the utter incompetence of a Jimmy Carter right in the seat of power.

America is the greatest country in history and it achieves greatness when it is left to its own devices. Every. Single. Democrat. Candidate. wants to stand in America's way.

Female foeticide

Police in the eastern Indian state of Orissa say they have recovered nearly 30 bags full of babies' body parts from a waste dump near a maternity clinic.

Forensic tests are being carried out on the remains following the raid near the town of Nayagarh on Sunday.

It is thought the find could be linked to the killing of female foetuses - a practice fairly widespread in India.

According to one estimate, up to 10m female foetuses may have been aborted in the country in the past two decades.

... Similar incidents have been reported from other parts of the country in recent months, raising concerns about India's dwindling female population.

Female foeticide is believed to be one of the main reasons for the skewed sex ratio in India.

India's minister for Women and Child Development, Renuka Chowdhary, has said the government plans to monitor all pregnancies to prevent female foeticide.

In June, police arrested the owner of a clinic near Delhi on suspicion of illegally aborting female foetuses.

The arrest followed a raid at the clinic in Gurgaon in Haryana state. Officials said the remains of several foetuses were found in a well nearby.

Last year, a surprise raid in Patiala district in Punjab province unearthed the remains of at least 50 female foetuses from a well by a private clinic.

WHAT ANNUAL TRAFFIC-DEATHS STATISTICS TELL US ABOUT THE WAR IN IRAQ

Traffic deaths in the United States fell to their lowest total in five years in 2006, and the rate of deaths per miles traveled dropped to a record low, a federal safety official said Monday.

Highway crashes killed 42,642 people last year, said Nicole Nason, administrator of the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration. That compares with the 43,510 who died in 2005, according to the agency's latest figures. ...

The fatality rate of 1.42 deaths per 100 million miles traveled in 2006 was the lowest rate recorded by the Department of Transportation, she said.

The fatality rate has steadily fallen for many years, except in 2005, when it rose slightly to 1.46 deaths per 100 million miles traveled. But because Americans have been driving more, the total number of traffic deaths has increased in most years since the early 1990s.

WHAT DOES THIS HAVE TO DO WITH IRAQ!?

SIMPLE:

The Left/Dems/doves have all argued that the cost to the US in troops lost is too high.

Some said we've lost more in Iraq than on 9/11 - as if that meant we've lost too many.

Some said it each time the number of combat deaths reached a round number - as if that was significant.

Some tossed in the money spent - the hundreds of billions, as if that compounded the deaths, and made the war a bigger mistake. As if toppling Saddam and defending Iraq's nascent democracy would have only been morally right if it had cost less. Sheesh. If it's right, then it's right.

But all of these arguments are hollow because they all lack any reasonable context; they neither relate the number of combat deaths to the over-arching cause, or to numbers who served in this theater of combat, or to death rates for previous wars - or during previous administrations EVEN IF THEY DID NOT ENGAGE IN A LAND WAR.

No one has blogged better on this subject than Jim Hoft of Gateway Pundit. He has compared the combat deaths in Iraq to Clinton's administration and to all the previous wars the USA has fought in. What this does, is give the number if combat deaths in Iraq CONTEXT.

The comparison shows that the Iraq War has been the most economically well fought in terms of lives lost.

We have lost fewer men in Iraq since 2003 than during an equal length period of time during the Clinton administration.

And the Iraq War has the LOWEST death rate.

Additional context is gained by comparing the losses we are sustaining versus the losses on the enemy we inflict.

This evidence proves we are not losing the war. And that we are not sustaining a degree of loss which we cannot sustain.

Which is CONTEXT. Real context, context not mutable by sensational daily headlines of islamikaze suicide bombings - bombings which can only succeed if we cut & run.

Which brings me back to the HIGHWAY DEATHS.

NOBODY is running for president on a platform which demands we stop driving, even though EACH YEAR we lose 14x more CIVILIANS on the highways than we have lost troops (volunteers, every single one of them!) - since the war began, 4 years.

Put another way: we have lost nearly 180,000 fellow citizens on the highways since the Iraq War began - nearly 60x the number of troops lost in Iraq.

BUT KENNEDY AND KUCINICH AND HILLARY AND OBAMA AND EDWARDS RICHARDSON AND PELOSI AND REID (and the rest of the doves) ARE SILENT.

WHY?!?! WHY ARE THEY SILENT? WHY DON'T THEY DEMAND THE HIGHWAYS BE SHUT?! OR THAT SPEED LIMIT BE LOWERED TO 15MPH; (THINK OF ALL THE GAS WE'D SAVE! THE CO2, "UN-EMITTED"!)

SIMPLE: They are silent because they understand the CONTEXT of the statistics of the highway deaths.

OKAY, THEN... where are we now? Let's see:

The moral and geo-political context is this:

first, we are fighting a noble cause: to defend the spread of democracy and human rights;

and second, to prevent radical Muslims from establishing a base in the oil rich heart of the Middle East.

(ASIDE: Before all you loonies start ranting about "Blood for Oil" may I remind you that the second part of that sentence has been US policy since Jimmy Carter's 1980 State of the Union, and it's still called THE CARTER DOCTRINE.)

The statistical context is this: we are NOT suffering high casualties and we are inflicting high casualties. WE ARE WINNING. OBJECTIVELY, STATISTICALLY, WE ARE WINNING.

NEED MORE PROOF? The Iraqis are now in better control of more of their territory than at any time since the war began. Real progress is being made. FACTS HERE.

IN SUMMARY: we are sustaining a relatively and historically low degree of casualties; we and the nascent Iraqi democracy are controlling more and more territory; the enemy is dying in higher number and in control of less territory. Every jihadi we kill there is one less jihadi. And the world is safer as a result.

BOTTOM-LINE: We should no more abandon Iraq than give up driving on highways.
