General Obama calls for shifting troops to Afghanistan

Headline in today's Wall Street Journal: "Obama calls for shifting troops to Afghanistan."

On the first stop of his weeklong foreign tour, Sen. Barack Obama Sunday called for shifting U.S. military forces from Iraq to Afghanistan, which he called "the central front on our battle against terrorism."

One tiny problem: that announcement was made without consulting General Petraeus, seeing the situation in Iraq, listening to any of Iraq's leaders or consulting with other experts. But no one should be surprised: Obama has a long history of botched predictions made in a complete absence of information.

Last week Charles Krauthammer observed:

[What would Iraq] look like if what Obama had proposed at the beginning of '07 had occurred. He would have had all our troops out four months ago, which means we would have al-Queda in control of large elements of Iraq with a strong base... It means that Iran would have the control that it had before the central government kicked Iran and its cohorts, allies, and clients out of the southern areas of Iraq. It would have tremendous influence over Iraq.

And probably the central government would have a collapsed, and it would be in the middle of a civil war and possibly genocide.

The best argument against Obama, the best antiwar argument to use against him, is to say that if we had listened to him we'd be in a position where we would be looking at a strategic calamity on our hands, as I described, also, a humanitarian one, which would impel us to have a third Iraqi war.

Which could, of course, have also touched off a world war.

As Jimmy Carter reminds us daily, the price of presidential stupidity is high. Vote accordingly in 2008.

Update: Exhibiting all the courage of Carter: "after talking for two years about timetables to remove troops from Iraq, Barack Obama goes to Baghdad and wimps out... He didn't even bring it up with the Iraqi Prime Minister!"

JIMMY CARTER: IRAN IS NOTHING TO WORRY ABOUT

Yesterday TAB's Pastorius blogged this story about how Jimmy Carter's former NSA Chief Brzezinski is quite sanguine about Iran. You have to admire that former administration's message discipline. Not content with urging urging Iowa voters to reject "knee-jerk" supporters of Israel - because the vicious, frothing at the mouth anti-Israel side is so level-headed and thoughtful - Jimmy Carter wants you to know that things are just fine with Iran:

In "The Gathering Storm," his history of World War II, Winston Churchill recalls how President Roosevelt once asked for suggestions about what the war should be called. "The Unnecessary War," Britain's wartime prime minister replied. "There never was a war more easy to stop than that which has just wrecked what was left of the world from the previous struggle."... Former President Jimmy Carter says we shouldn't take the Iran threats seriously. "I think it would be almost inconceivable that Iran would commit suicide by launching one or two missiles of any kind against the nation of Israel," he said. Many of Churchill's critics said the same about Nazi Germany in the 1930s. But apocalyptic fanatics have been known to be suicidal, and Carter, of course, has been wrong about Iran before.

The last time Jimmy Carter said that things were just fine with Iran, it took Ronald Reagan to even start cleaning up that mess.

IS JONATHAN DEMME TAKING JIMMY CARTER'S SIDE?

It would seem as though film director Jonathan Demme is one of the few people who's willing to side with the horrible Jimmy Carter, and has just made a documentary about him called "Man From Plains". John Podhoretz got a news clip about it.

Demme and a camera crew led by Declan Quinn filmed an intimate portrait of Carter as he dealt with the slings and arrows generated by his provocative public appearances across the country.

I wouldn't be surprised if it were favorable towards this awful man. "Intimate"? I think that could signal that this is gonna be bad.

There's an earlier report here that Brandeis University had denied Demme permission to film one of Carter's speeches that says:

Demme said he had hoped Tuesday's speech and the planned question-and-answer session afterward would be part of a powerful ending to his documentary, "He Comes in Peace."

When they speak about a powerful end, that too could tell that something is wrong. And the title given there, which must've been the initial title they were going to give it, also smells fishy.

HIGH COURT OF ISRAELI APARTHEID STATE FORCES GOVERNMENT TO INCREASE FUNDING TO ARAB SCHOOLS

Not that Arab schools weren't being funded, mind you. They just weren't being funded enough to satisfy the justices. And so they threw Israel's educational system into a literal crises - risking the jobs of thousands of teachers - until the government promised to fix it:

The High Court of Justice ruled on Sunday to allow the Education Ministry to implement a plan that would change the status of "national priority areas" gradually, eliminating the need to fire 1,500 teachers in schools that will lose their funding due to the decision... In February 2006, the High Court canceled the 'national priority areas' status after the map... was deemed unfair by the Court because it heavily favored Jewish areas over Arab ones in education spending. The Education Ministry was ordered to develop a map that was in keeping with the principle of 'equality.'... 15 months after the High Court decision, the Education Ministry announced in an internal memo that it was seeking legal ways to delay implementing the ruling. However, the deadline for firing teachers - a move that would be necessary for dozens of schools if the national priority map were canceled for next year - was only two days later, on May 31.

Now you might be like "well then wasn't the Education Ministry trying to implement an apartheid system". And we'd say "no, they were corrupt and returning political favors to local constituents - and since the effect of that might have been discriminatory, the High Court struck it down anyway". Which is just like what used to happen with black public schools in apartheid South Africa, right? And Jimmy Carter isn't either an idiot or a potential latent anti-Semite for his irrational hatred of the Jewish State, right?

BREITBART/AFP (VIA DRUDGE): Former US president Jimmy Carter on Saturday attacked outgoing Prime Minister Tony Blair for his "blind" support of the Iraq war, describing it as a "major tragedy for the world".

In an interview with BBC radio, Carter was asked how he would describe Blair's attitude to US President George W. Bush. He replied: "Abominable. Loyal, blind, apparently subservient.

"I think that the almost undeviating support by Great Britain for the ill-advised policies of President Bush in Iraq have been a major tragedy for the world."

WHAT ARE THE OSCARS?

A politically correct, liberal love fest!! An opportunity for snobby, Hollywood elitists to bash Bush, our country and the people who live in the midwest and believe in traditional values. I love movies but the Oscars very rarely nominates or awards people and/or movies that I like. The only winning movies in the past 11 yrs. that I've thought were worthy of Oscars were Braveheart and Titanic.

Last night the movies nominated for best documentary included a propaganda film about global warming, a film that bashed Christian home schoolers, a film that bashed Catholic priests, a film about Iraq from the perspective of "An outspoken critic of the U.S. occupation", and another film about Iraq described like this, "told by Iraqis living in a time of war, occupation and ethnic tension". All of these documentaries reek with political correctness and a hostility to average, every day Americans.

So Al Gore got his Oscar last night for best propaganda film. Melissa Etheridge also won for best song from the film and she said this after kissing her wife:

"Mostly, I have to thank Al Gore for inspiring me, showing me that caring about the earth is not Republican or Democrat, it's not red or blue. We are all green," Etheridge said.

I thought I was going to be ill.

Does Gore getting the award impress me? No, I figure if Michael Moore can get one they aren't that hard to earn. Then I see that Gore is Carter's favorite pick to run for president on the Democrat ticket for 2008. Go here to see the video. Bottom line:
There are a lot of good movies out there but few that will be nominated, let alone win Academy Awards.
