The schools, he said, “are fundamentally about freedom, and freedom is what America is all about.” His parents, as most of the audience knew, fled Cuba before he was born. “Like I said in one of my songs, ‘Freedom is what we fight for, freedom is what we die for.’”
“My mom struggled,” he said, so he could get a good education — though, as he told reporters later, that journey involved hopscotching among a couple dozen schools. “I don’t want any mom in America to have to lie about where she lives so her kids can attend a better school,” he said.BRAVO!
