These women were kidnapped, kept prisoner in the house, not allowed to leave unless supervised by one of the men, not allowed to be educated, not allowed to choose what to wear, not allowed to have friends, and, more than anything, not allowed to exercise their Freedom of Choice over any part of their lives.
In other words, what we call kidnapping and a life of horrific abuse is what women in much of the Muslim world call marriage.
