OKLAHOMA CITY – House Bill 1060 is now on its way to the governor’s desk.We must hope the governor stands strong and signs the bill into law. It's not an attack on Islamic principals but rather, a measure to prevent local courts from following the worst elements.
The legislation would prohibit the application of foreign laws if it violates either the state Constitution or the U.S. Constitution.
The measure is similar to State Question 755, which specifically singled out “Sharia Law.”
That was approved by Oklahoma voters but overturned by the courts.
The Council on American-Islamic Relations is urging the governor not to sign the bill. They call it an attack on the religious principles of Islam.
