I have told this story a few times in the past 3.5 years.
I lost my Engineering job in October of 2008 like many people lost their jobs at that time. There were no job openings then anywhere near my home and pretty much no-where in the country.
I was friends with two other engineers and we had a business plan already sketched out that we had been working on for some time. We fleshed the plan out and, as I was free during the days, I did tremendous research, communication and networking. Not a day went by that I wasn't on the phone or meeting people in person talking about this business.
As none of us had any cash we needed investors and financing and so-on. The plan was solid and everyone I talked to agreed that the idea and the plan were both great and timely.
This is what the director of the local Chamber of Commerce told me. Again, this is late October 2008.
"The people that have the money, the investors, the bankers, the business owners, are all terrified of what might happen with this election. They see who the frontrunner is, and no-one is willing to do anything whatsoever until after the election because of who might win. They see this Obama guy and they are terrified of him. All of the people with money that I could tell you to approach are all pulling way back right now."
NOTHING WILL CHANGE UNTIL OBAMA IS GONE.
