DENMARK: WELFARE STATE KILLS 30% MORE MOTORISTS

Perhaps you did not know that in Denmark, new cars are hit with a registration tax that amounts to almost 180%  of the value of the car.   In addition to filling the coffers of the welfare state this exorbitant tax also has the effect of encouraging danes to drive around in old cars because they cannot afford a newer one!  Well now a study has been published in a magasine for engineers that claims that the number of deaths that occur as a result of motor accidents would be reduced by 30% if the average age of the cars in use was reduced by just one year.  In 2010 255 people died as a result of a traffic accident.  That means a reduction of the tax on newly registered cars could save the lives of 75 people.
