Mr. Hamid has a decent and perhaps even admirable bio: "Mr. Hamid, a former member of the Islamic radical group Jamma Islamiya, is an Islamic reformer and a senior fellow at the Potomac Institute for Policy Studies."
BUT WHAT HE WRITES IS BULLSHIT:
It's unclear whether or not the Rev. Terry Jones will go ahead with his highly publicized Quran burning this evening in Florida. But Muslims can play a major role in preventing a violent response to any burnings of their holy book.
Islamic scholars can emphasize that the Quran clearly teaches that no one can be punished on account of the actions of others (surra 6, verse 164). In other words, it is against the value system of the Quran to punish Americans or Christians because of the acts of a small minority.
In addition, leading Islamic authorities should issue a powerful fatwa against those who might respond to Quran burning with violence against non-Muslims. The fatwa must clearly state that those who react by carrying out violent acts against non-Muslims are apostates. It should also say that those who attack non-Muslims to seek revenge will not be buried with Muslims and will go to hell forever.
These are the kind of words—unfortunately—that resonate with Islamic radicals. Fatwas that simply condemn violent acts as 'un-Islamic' are too weak to produce any significant effect.
The best example for Muslims to follow in this case is what the Quran says about Prophet Ibrahim (Abraham) when his father threatened to stone him to death for refusing to follow the pagan beliefs common in their society. The response of Abraham—who the Quran calls "the role model of all prophets"—was not revenge, but rather an offering of peace (19:46-47). "Dost thou hate my gods, O Ibrahim? If thou forbear not, I will indeed stone thee: Now get away from me for a long while!" says the father.
To this, Abraham replies: "Peace be upon thee! I shall ask my Sustainer to forgive thee. For behold, He has always been kind unto me."
The more Muslims follow this model, the more they can bring peace to the world. And the more tolerance Muslims show for values like freedom of expression, the less others will think of burning the Quran.
If the Muslim world followed the authoritative guide of Quranic verse 41:34—"Nor can goodness and evil be equal. Respond to evil with doing good deeds to the evil doer. Then will he, between whom and thyself was hatred, become as though he was thy friend and intimate!"—there would not be a so-called clash of civilizations.
Inadvertently, Hamid has actually proven that Islam is a phony, untrustworthy, decietful and violent ideology.
HOW!?
SIMPLE:
Hamid would like us to believe that Muslims should emulate their version of Abraham, and NOT their chief prophet, Muhammad.
To believe this, we'd have to believe that Muhammad was a bad Muslim because he certainly didn't practice what Hamid says the Koran says Abraham did.
Muhammad didn't turn the cheek or do good to those he thought were evil. Muhammad didn't follow Quranic verse 41:34. He broke it all the time.
COULD MUHAMMAD HAVE GOTTEN HIS OWN RELIGION WRONG?!
NO.
NO ONE is more important to or relevant to the Koran than Muhammad.
If Muhammad got it wrong, then it is ALL WRONG, and everything Muslims do - especially all they do to emulate their chief prophet is wrong.
Muhammad can no more be wrong about Islam - the religion he invented - than Buddha can be wrong about Buddhism.
I ask Hamid to look in the mirror and HONESTLY think about it.
If he does, then there's only one way for him to go: he MUST leave Islam.
He can become an atheist or Buddhist or Hindu or Jew or Christian, but he must leave Islam.
All Muslims can - and all should.
REPEAT: If Muhammad got it wrong, then it is ALL WRONG.
REPEAT: If Muhammad got it wrong, then it is ALL WRONG.
AND - ACCORDING TO TAWFIK HAMID AND THE CITED LINES IN THE QURAN - MUHAMMAD GOT IT WRONG.
There's no other logical and truthful conclusion.
The argument that Tawfik Hamid makes proves that Islam is entirely illogical, dishonest, hypocritical and evil. If the Abraham in the Koran was right, then Muhammad was wrong, and if Muhammad was wrong, then the Koran is wrong. If the Koran is wrong, then Islam is a fasle religion.
REPEAT: If the Abraham in the Koran was right, then Muhammad was wrong, and if Muhammad was wrong, then the Koran is wrong - and Islam is a false religion.
REPEAT: If the Abraham in the Koran was right, then Muhammad was wrong, and if Muhammad was wrong, then the Koran is wrong - and Islam is a false religion.
AND THAT'S JUST THE WAY IT IS.
LIKE IT OR NOT.
TAWFIK HAMID AND OTHER PEOPLE WHO ARE MUSLIMS MUST MAKE A CHOICE: THEY MUST CHOOSE LIFE OR ISLAM; THEY CANNOT CHOOSE BOTH.
WAFA SULTAN AND AYAAN HIRSI ALI AND WALID SHOEBAT ALL CHOSE WISELY, AND LEFT ISLAM.
OTHERS CAN TOO.
I PRAY THEY ALL DO.
AND ANOTHER THING:
THERE'S ABUNDANT PROOF THAT THE KORAN IS NOT PERFECT REVELATION, BUT A HIGHLY FLAWED, SLOPPILY COMPILED, POORLY RESEARCHED PILE OF LIES. IN FACT, THERE IS NOT EVEN A SINGLE VERSION OF IT.
IOW: ANOTHER REASON FOR FOLLOWERS OF ISLAM TO SPLIT.

I've met face to face with Dr. Tawfik Hamid. In my estimation, he is sincere in his desire to reform Islam.
Still, everything he says does go to prove that Islam itself is the problem.
