ALL POLICE IN EVERY STATE SHOULD BE REQUIRED TO ASK ALL CRIMINAL SUSPECTS ABOUT THEIR IMMIGRATION STATUS

Hot Air:
KOLD

In 2008, the University of Virginia conducted a survey to see what effects, if any, the Prince William County law had.

It concluded initial fears about racial profiling did not happen.

"It concluded initial fears about racial profiling did not happen."

And it can't happen because they ask all criminal suspects - (that is: people suspected of committing a crime, not just people suspected of being immigrants )- are asked what their immigration status is.

This should be made a federal mandate: a GOP Senator and House Rep should introduce a bill requiring all state and county law enforcement officers to ask about the immigration status of all suspects as a condition for federal law enforcement aid and assistance to the state.

This should be a plank in the GOP and Tea Party platforms.

I remember the uproar this caused when the policy was first implemented. The county wanted to prevent illegals from using county services. They reported the cost of illegals to the county and its taxpayers as a valid argument in support of the policy. Gang related violence had been on the rise as well. I cheered their efforts at the time, but had not heard much more about it until this story. More cities/counties and states need to take similar action.
