WORLD SERIES TIED 4-4 IN NINTH AND THE NYTIMES SPORTWRITERS WHINE ABOUT BS

TYPICAL NYT COVERAGE:

Update | 11:35 p.m. From the moment Derek Jeter struck out in the 9th inning until Johnny Damon entered the batter’s box, 25 seconds elapsed. In that time, Fox’s Joe Buck was able to mention three of the game’s sponsors — Gillette, American Express and Ford Taurus. Two things fans want are faster games and less clutter. If batters like Damon would get into the batter’s box with greater urgency, the games would have a quicker pace and Buck wouldn’t have the time between at-bats to offer a short litany of advertisers.

Update | 11:29 p.m. Late-breaking SquatCam update: BlackBerry ended its sponsorship of SquatCam after Game 2 of the World Series. Now it’s just an unsponsored angle. Fans, anybody have a perfect sponsor for SquatCam?

Update | 11:26 p.m. I’m a fan of SquatCam, the inset shot of the catcher that Fox uses when it divides the screen between the pitcher and the batter. Three angles on a screen might be too much, but Fox makes it work. The network started using it in the A.L.C.S. BlackBerry sponsors it, but its name on SquatCam only has to appear twice a game. So when you think of squatting, think BlackBerry. – R.S.

TYPICAL.
