While the Lebanese deserve 95 percent of the credit for this election, 5 percent goes to two U.S. presidents. As more than one Lebanese whispered to me: Without George Bush standing up to the Syrians in 2005 — and forcing them to get out of Lebanon after the Hariri killing — this free election would not have happened.Tom Friedman - he gives Bush A LITTLE credit and some to Obama, when in fact Bush deserves a HUGE amount of credit and Obama doesn't deserve even a passing mention.
Mr. Bush helped create the space.
Power matters.
Mr. Obama helped stir the hope. Words also matter.
But it's a start.
In a decade, the left will act as if they had always supported Bush!

Words do matter, but what has Obama said that contributed to the kind of Hope that caused the Lebanese to vote against the tide which is turning towards Islamofascism in countries such as Pakistan, Turkey, Syria, Iran, etc.?
Was it the fact that Obama spoke in front of the Muslim Brotherhood in Egypt that gave the Lebanese so much "hope"?
Does Thomas Friedman even read the news?
