See this about Ron Kirk, nominee for U.S. Trade Representative.
Just one example of how he cheated on his tax return:
Kirk routinely gave any speaking fees he earned to Austin College, the committee said, and did not list them on his tax returns.Much more obfuscation and fraud at the above link.
Instead, the committee said he should have listed the fees as income, then claimed them as charitable donations. The estimated effect was to reduce Kirk's tax bill by an estimated $5,800, according to the report.
Kirk owes about $10,000 in back taxes and is making arrangements to pay up - now that he's under scrutiny.
Not much scrutiny, however:
Sen. Max Baucus, D-Mont., chairman of the Senate Finance Committee, issued a statement calling Kirk "the right person for this job," and said he would attempt to have the nomination moved through the panel quickly.
RELIAPUNDIT ADDS:
- HE'S NOT EVEN BARELY QUALIFIED, EITHER:
- HE'S NEVER BEEN IN BUSINESS AND NEVER NEGOTIATED ANY INTERNATIONAL CONTRACTS OR TREATIES.
- HE GOT THE JOB BECAUSE OF HIS RACE AND HIS PARTISAN CONNECTIONS.
DISSENT ACCORDINGLY.

I simply do NOT get it... They say "Okay, we'll pay NOW" and they are STILL acceptable in our government? I wish the government would give US that courtesy. Will he pay penalties and interest? OH, MAN, are they HIGH on delinquent tax money to the IRS.
It reminds me of the new joke that obama's been a great president because he's only been in 40 days and he's already collected $160K for the IRS!!
