Lawyers are earning tens of millions of pounds from a government scheme intended to win money for victims of medical blunders, it has emerged.THIS IS ANOTHER REASON WHY LAWYERS LIKE OBAMA WANT A SIMILAR SYSTEM HERE.
The compensation lawyers are earning £800 an hour from the National Health Service, claiming costs and "success fees" worth up to £100 million a year.
In some cases, the payouts claimed are 10 times more than the damages won by the patient.
The NHS Litigation Authority (NHSLA), which runs the compensation scheme, has highlighted the costs in a submission to Lord Justice Jackson, who is reviewing civil litigation costs.
The document states: "The whole costs structure is indefensibly expensive in relation to the compensation awarded or agreed. It is difficult to believe that it would be sustained were it not for the lack of motivation to change it."
Colum Smith, a partner in McMillan Williams Solicitors who works as a "no-win, no-fee" lawyer, admitted that in about half of his cases his legal costs are greater than the damages paid to the patient.
"The waste of money is absolutely phenomenal," he said.
SOCIALIST PAYOUTS TO LAWYERS WILL ALWAYS BE HIGHER BECAUSE THE SOCIALIST IS NOT PAYING WITH HIS OWN MONEY.
MILTON FRIEDMAN:
There are four ways in which you can spend money.POLITICIANS HAVE NO REASON TO SPEND OUR MONEY WISELY; THAT'S WHY WE MUST FIGHT ALL ATTEMPTS TO EXPAND GOVERNMENT.
You can spend your own money on yourself.
When you do that, why then you really watch out what you’re doing, and you try to get the most for your money.
Then you can spend your own money on somebody else.
For example, I buy a birthday present for someone. Well, then I’m not so careful about the content of the present, but I’m very careful about the cost.
Then, I can spend somebody else’s money on myself.
And if I spend somebody else’s money on myself, then I’m sure going to have a good lunch!
Finally, I can spend somebody else’s money on somebody else.
And if I spend somebody else’s money on somebody else, I’m not concerned about how much it is, and I’m not concerned about what I get.
And that’s government. And that’s close to 40% of our national income.
