Mashharawi's video footage originally appeared on British television's Channel 4 and later on CNN. It showed futile attempts by doctors to resuscitate Mashharawi's 12-year-old brother, Mahmoud, after he and his 14-year-old cousin, Ahmed, had been wounded in what the family said was a rocket attack from a remote-controlled drone Sunday. Video Watch doctors try and save the boy »THE VIDEO IS SO PHONY IT'S LAUGHABLE! THE CPR IS PHONY; THE DAMAGE ON THE ROOF IS SCANT.
Ahmed also was taken to the hospital, but he had been fatally struck in the head and chest by shrapnel and had lost a foot, Hamdouna said. Hamdouna said the hospital records reported Ahmed's age as 16, not 14, as the family said.
At the time of the attack, the family said, the two boys were playing on the rooftop of the family's three-story house. The video showed a blood-splattered area where an explosion had taken place and where shrapnel had pierced the roof.
Mashharawi has regularly worked with World News and Features since 2004, Martin said. His multimedia company serves television, radio and newspapers.
Martin said accusations that Mashharawi owns a company that hosts Hamas Web sites were falsely based on Mashharawi having worked at a company that created the PS suffix to allow anyone of any political persuasion to create Palestinian Web sites.
The video footage appeared on CNN television networks and on CNN.com for 24 hours before CNN removed the material in the belief that it had no further right to use it. CNN, standing by the video, has since reposted it. Some bloggers had cited its removal as evidence that CNN did not stand by its reporting.
Responding to accusations that the resuscitation efforts of Mashharawi's brother appeared inauthentic, Martin said that, based on his years of reporting from Gaza, doctors often go through such efforts even with little hope that a patient can be saved.
In the video of the incident, the boy appears lifeless when brought to into the hospital.
In a brief conversation with CNN, Mashharawi said that doctors tried everything they could to save his brother and that he rejected suggestions that any of his work was inauthentic.
Before bloggers made their accusations, Mashharawi told CNN, "I believed at that moment if I didn't record that nobody will believe what's happened to my brother. Because it is unbelievable. Until now, I can't believe what's happened."
CY: "... CNN has also yet to explain what kind of Israeli drone could have fired the purported missile, and what kind of missile would cause the minimal damage shown on the rooftop where it is claimed these boys are killed."
ED/HOT AIR: "Maybe Martin can explain how a missile hits a roof and kills two boys but does no more damage to the roof than what a pickaxe could do in five minutes — and how the furniture didn’t get disturbed."
- CNN'S COURSE OF ACTION IS PAR FOR THE COURSE.
- THEY LIED FOR SADDAM - FOR YEARS.
- AND THEY DID THE SAME BS RE: THE AL DURA AFFAIR AND "JENINGRAD" AND THE LEBANON WAR.
THEY'RE NOT OBJECTIVE; THEY'RE ON THE OTHER SIDE.

CNN may be scum, the video may be staged, but the CPR is real. It's abdominal CPR, which is especially useful whenever the ribs need to be protected. In fact, it's even more effective than the old type of CPR anyway. Oh and the whole criticism of why he wasn't doing mouth-to-mouth? Research on survival rates has shown it doesn't do shit. It actually reduces the chance of survival probably because you stop circulating the blood. What scares me is these medical types who are shouting about how this can't be CPR. Anybody ever heard of professional training???? No wonder U.S. post-heart attack survival rates suck. These know-it-alls who know so little should try reading up on abdominal CPR or the use of compressions alone.
There are several points that clearly show this to be a fake. Yesterday I wrote about the doctors and the ridiculous effort at CPR, plus the inclusion of notorious pro-Hamas activist Mads Gilbert. When Duane and I looked at this again, we saw a few other points as well.
* Take a look at the blood on the operating table. For penetrating wounds, there is almost no blood, and what little there is looks washed out — almost orange. The body should have been covered in blood, and much more than that should have transferred to the sheets, especially if someone was giving CPR.
* The video alleges that the Israelis used a missile from an unmanned drone to attack the rooftop, but look carefully at that roof. A missile hitting that roof would have left much more than a six-inch-diameter impact crater, even if it didn’t explode.
* Also, the plastic chair is sitting normally in the blast zone, and the clothes remain on the clothesline in the background. A missile blast that killed two boys on that roof would have done much more extensive damage.
It’s not only a fake, it’s an absurd fake. It’s not even done well, and Gilbert’s dramatic headshake at the end of the supposed CPR — in which Doctor #2’s hands keep coming off the body — is only the cheesy coup de grace. Why did CNN republish this?
A seemingly pretty knowledgeable LGF commenter spotted what many inexpert readers who see the video will also catch (bolds are mine):
I’m no military expert, but I am a doctor, and this video is bullsh-t. The chest compressions that were being performed at the beginning of this video were absolutely, positively fake. The large man in the white coat was NOT performing CPR on that child. He was just sort of tapping on the child’s sternum a little bit with his fingers. You can’t make blood flow like that. Furthermore, there’s no point in doing chest compressions if you’re not also ventilating the patient somehow.
THE FAKERY/PROPAGANDA IS NOT NEW:
AL DURA.
JENINGRAD.
THE PHONY MISSILE-SHOT AMBULANCE.
AND SO ON.
WUOFU.
WAKE UP OR FUCK OFF.
I imagine that many of the bloggers on various sites (based on all the comments I skimmed) spent hours trying to find discrepancies in the video. I'm just not sure why. I suppose more comments from people who know the family will come out later, and I already saw one that lead me to believe the child is really dead. Was he killed by Israel? Who knows? Likely though he was dead or clearly dying long before he ever got into that video. So, yeah the video probably was propaganda and was staged, though not a fake. I imagine the family just wanted the world to be affected by the death, which they believed was caused by an Israeli missile. I feel sorry for the family's loss. But, whether this one child died does not really change the overall picture in which hundreds of civilians have been killed as Israel attempts to defend itself.
I believe all media is propaganda to an extent. It is impossible to present every perspective, so we choose what we think is most important for people to know. That of course is what we believe to be true and is what we want other people to believe to be true. For me, the first step in finding the most likely "truth" is exposing yourself to as many views as possible.
This video is propaganda, a deliberate attempt to manipulate your thoughts and beliefs. Many of you respond by denying the message it is sending about what is happening in Gaza. Just because it is propaganda, that doesn't make the message false. Underlying so many comments I've read in blogs is the denial of the message because "I will not be tricked by this media propaganda (metaphorical fist waving)!!!"
So let me ask a question. Is putting on your own blinders really better than having someone else put them on for you?
By wake up, people usually mean believe what I believe (or fuck off.) Then again, I'm sure it's less taxing on the brain to maintain just a single clear perspective, so let me try it.
The New Me:
After seeing all the inconsistencies in this video, I am sooooo shocked and disgusted by CNN's blatant and obviously staged propaganda that they think their viewers will just swallow without realizing what a load of crap it is. How do they expect me to believe anything they say when they support such crappy "journalism" and treat it as "news" (waving a fist enthusiastically)?
Yep, now I feel better already, so I don't need to blog anymore for at least a few days. =)
MELINDA:
THERE IS SUCH A THING AS TRUTH.
NOT EVERYTHING IS SUBJECTIVE OR JUST A VARIABLE "NARRATIVE".
PROPAGANDA IS NOT TRUTH; IT IS FALSE.
CNN RAN THIS PACKAGE FROM AN OUTSIDE NEWS SERVICE WHICH IS PRO-HAMAS.
CNN ALSO AIDED SADDAM.
THEY'VE ADMITTED THIS; PROVING THEY CARE NOT FOR TRUTH.
IF HAMAS CAN'T USE TRUTH, THEN THEY MUST BE FULL OF SHIT.
ISRAEL HAS TRUTH ON ITS SIDE.
AND JUSTICE.
