I think reliapundit might be right. I was a psychiatric nurse for many years and many of Biden’s utterances when he was allowed in public were the kind of thing that could be expected from someone who is a short way into dementia. What he said would have the ring of truth but would not stand up to fact checking. He was on the intelligence committee but a lot of what he said about Lebanon and France was plain out wrong. And the strange story about FDR on TV in 1929 is out there. The medical term is confabulation and it is the creation of seemingly plausible story to fill in the memory gaps. I know Obama never released his own medical records. Did the same happen with Biden? Because any competent doctor would catch this. Maybe the doctor was just a Democrat.

Early dementia is indeed a possibility, though I hadn't considered it until now. I do have some familiarity with dementia in my family, and Biden's gaffes are consistent with it.
