MORON EXPLAINS WHY HE VOTED OBAMA

THIS GOT A LOT OF PLAY IN SOME CIRCLES - LIKE CHARLES JOHNSON AND THE DAVID BROOKS-RINO-TYPES WHO THINK CONSERVATISM IS BAD.
How the GOP lost my vote
Paul Hsieh

After a resounding electoral defeat, in which voters in this once-red state rejected Republicans McCain, Schaffer, and Musgrave, the Colorado Republican Party will undoubtedly be asking themselves, "Why did we lose?"

I want to let them know that they lost the vote of many former supporters (including myself) because they have chosen to embrace the Religious Right.

I voted Republican in 1996, 2000, and 2004. I believe in limited government, individual rights, free market capitalism, a strong national defense, and the right to keep and bear arms - positions that one normally associates with Republicans.

But I didn't vote for a single Republican in 2008. I've become increasingly alienated by the Republicans" embrace of the religious "social conservative" agenda, including attempts to ban abortion, embryonic stem cell research, and gay marriage.

The Founding Fathers correctly recognized that the proper function of government is to protect individual rights, such as freedom of speech and freedom of religion. But freedom of religion also implies freedom *from* religion. As Thomas Jefferson famously put it, there should be a "wall of separation" between church and state. Public policy should not be based on religious doctrines.
PURE MORONICALLY MISINFORMED IDIOCY.

1- BUSH DIDN'T BAN EMBRYONIC STEM CELL RESEARCH - JUST FEDERAL FUNDING FOR IT. ALSO: OTHER STEM CELLS WORK BETTER. SO WHY KILL AN EMBRYO WHEN YOU DON'T HAVE TO? MCCAIN SURE DIDN'T MAKE EMBRYONIC STEM CELLS A PART OF HIS CAMPAIGN.

SO CITING THIS IS BULLSHIT.

2 - NO ATTEMPTS WERE MADE BY THE GOP TO BAN ABORTION. ONLY THE SCOTUS COULD DO THAT. AND THEN, IT WOULD ONLY REVERT TO THE INDIVIDUAL STATES, MANY IF NOT MOST WOULD RETAIN PRETTY MUCH WHAT THEY GOT. PERHAPS A FEW STATES WOULD BAN IT ALTOGETHER.

AGAIN: THIS IS A BOGUS POINT ONLY A DUPE POSING AS A "CENTRIST" WOULD MAKE.

3 - THE ONLY PROACTIVE POSITIONS THIS MORON SPELLS OUT - "limited government, individual rights, free market capitalism, a strong national defense, and the right to keep and bear arms..." - WERE ALL EMBRACED BY THE GOP THIS YEAR AND OPPOSED BY OBAMA.

4 - "GAY MARRIAGE" HAS BEEN VOTED DOWN EVERY TIME IT'S EVER COME UP FOR A VOTE BY THE PEOPLE. CHANGES LIKE THIS SHOULDN'T BE MADE BY POLITICIANS IN STATEHOUSES. A NATIONAL PARTY WHICH MADE GAY MARRIAGE A PART OF ITS PLATFORM WOULD BE COMMITTING SUICIDE.

BESIDES: OBAMA WASN'T FOR IT.

SO AGAIN: THIS IS A COMPLETELY BOGUS POINT.

5A - HSIEH WROTE: "The Founding Fathers correctly recognized that the proper function of government is to protect individual rights..."

THIS IS COMPLETELY WRONG. THE FOUNDING FATHERS SAID THESE RIGHTS ARE INALIENABLE AND ENDOWED BY THE CREATOR. AS IN GOD. NOT GOVERNMENT. THAT'S WHY THEY WANTED LIMITED GOVERNMENT: NOT TO INFRINGE ON OR NATURAL GOD-GIVEN RIGHTS.

THERE WOULD BE NO USA WITHOUT A BELIEF IN THE CREATOR AND NATURAL RIGHTS.

5B - HSIEH: "... freedom of religion also implies freedom *from* religion...."

MORE BULLSHIT. THIS IS EXTRA-CONSTITUTIONAL. NO ONE IS FORCED TO BELIEVE IN ANY RELIGION OR SECT IN THE USA. IN GOD WE TRUST AND OTHER EXPRESSIONS AND TRADITIONS ARE NOT FORCING RELIGION ON ANYONE. THE SCOTUS HAS UPHELD THIS EVERY TIME THEY'VE BEEN ASKED TO RILE.

ARGUING THAT PUBLIC LIFE MUST BE ATHEISTIC TO BE NEUTRAL IS ARGUING A POSTMODERN ANTI-RELIGION LEFTIST BULLSHIT POINT.

BOTTOM-LINE: I THINK HSIEH IS FULL OF SHIT - LIKE SO MANY SUPPOSEDLY GOP VOTERS INTERVIEWED BY THE MSM. IF HSIEH IS A REAL GOP VOTER, THEN I'M FIDEL CASTRO JUNIOR. (YEAH, I THINK HE'S LYING ABOUT HOW HE VOTED, AND WHETHER HE'S A REGISTERED REPUBLICAN OR DEMOCRAT.)

THE GOP CANNOT REGAIN STATUS AS BOTH A PARTY OF THE MAJORITY AND OF CONSERVATISM BY BECOME DEMOCRAT-LITE.

THE GOP NEEDS TO AGGRESSIVELY PUSH ITS PROGRAM IN URBAN COUNTIES.

THESE ARE THE COUNTIES WHICH NEED REFORM, AND THE REFORMS WHICH WILL HELP THE PEOPLE WILL HELP THE PARTY.

THE GOP DOESN'T NEED MORE PEOPLE LIKE HSIEH. IT NEEDS TO EDUCATE PEOPLE LIKE HSIEH AND GET MORE URBAN VOTERS TO VOTE GOP.

Palin's inclusion on the ticket killed a ton of votes. She energized a lot of the base. Great, that retains people who were always going to go GOP and pushes away those on the fence.

She was an albatross around his neck.

Well, that's good because you aren't going to get them anyway.

The party (GOP) is OVER.

Stay the course, TAB! Watching the extremist American right self-destruct is highly entertaining. Watching it try to drag the Republican party down with it is just plain priceless.

Jack -

The election was lost because of the failure of the GOP base to come out and vote in numbers equal to those it had in 2000 and 2004.

Crossover votes do not win elections.

The Obamessiah did not inspire any big increase in turnout, nor did he capture votes from the GOP -- except perhaps with Hispanic voters, who supported President Bush in greater numbers.

Governor Palin may yet be the 45th President . . .

McCoy --

Gloat all you want to now.

After Obama completely f**ks up the economy, foreign affairs, and the world erupts in chaos and war, you'll be crying to a different tune.

Obama's starting from more than just a few yards back. I'm not sure the American electorate writ large is going to buy the pre-emptive attempts to lay the inevitable consequences of the Bush administration's shoddy governance on Obama.

BTW, do you agree that freedom of religous expression also protects individuals from government forced religious expression (such as school prayer)? Your fellow blogger seems to think that its constitutional for the state to engage and promote religious expression. What do you think?

PALIN'S CON VENTION SPEECH WAS THE MOST WATCHED OF ALL TIME.

PALIN'S DEBATE WAS THE MOPST WATCHED OF ALL TIME.

PALIN'S SNL WAS THE MOST WATCHED OF ALL TIME.

AND PLAIN DREW BIGGER CROWD'S THAN OBAMA WITHING THE SAME TIME FRAME (WITHIN FIORST 2 MONHTS OF CAMPAIGNING NATIONALLY).

SO SHE WAS NOT A DRAG.

MCCAIN WAS THE DRAG ON THE TICKET.

FACT: MCCAIN WOULD HAVE NEVER WON THE NOMINATION WOTHOUT CROSSOVER DEM VOTES IN NH AND ELSEWHERE.

AND MCCAIN REFUSED TO USE WRIGHT OR
TO ATTACK THE DEMS OVER FANNIE MAE.

THAT WHY WE LOST.

I don't suppose that it occurred to you that there might have been some correlation between "most watched" and the skyrocket in her negatives.

The polling suggested she was a drag, RP.
