"For all his political skills, he is frighteningly prone to moments of appalling judgment, often involving copious quantities of alcohol and - according to some of his biographers - illicit encounters with women."

cnn:

"Sen. Ted Kennedy, D-Massachusetts, has a history of alcohol related controversies. In July 1969 he was involved in a driving accident at Chappaquiddick, Massachusetts that resulted in the death of his passenger, Mary Jo Kopechne.

And in 1991 he was involved in a bar-hopping weekend in Palm Beach, Florida, that led to the rape trial of his nephew, William Kennedy Smith. Smith was acquitted after a trial in which Kennedy testified about the drinking activities of the weekend in question."

I could not believe how much the press, even Fox News kept talking about him all day yesterday and today. And talking about what a wonderful senator he is. Come on!!!!!!

Larry,
I have noticed that lately Teddy had looked as if he had stopped drinking. He was looking, relatively, healthy (for him).

If he suddenly started again, and then stopped, his old body may not have been able to cope.

I don't watch TV anymore, so I had not noticed.

I don't know know what the truth of the matter is, and don't expect I ever will.

I hope he doesn't suffer any worse than Mary Jo did.

On FNC this morning, when Dr. Rosenfeld was talking about causes of seizures, alcohol wasn't mentioned. A brain tumor was, however, as was idiopathy (no cause found).

My first thought on hearing that the Admiral of Chappaquiddick had suffered seizures was "Boozing again?"

Pastorius said...

That was also my first thought.

My second thought was, "A drink sure does sound nice about now."

Of course, I heard about Kennedy's falling ill at, like, 8:00 AM, so I decided to go to church instead.

;-)

I usually save the drinking for after church.

Alcohol wtihdrawl causes a high number of seizures. It's hard to be perpetually drunk for decades and then one day, suddenly decide to lay off the booze.

Ol' Smokey must have had a momentary zap of excitement to think he'd be able to add yet another to the Kennedy clan under his care.
