A tiny Alaska village eroding into the Arctic Ocean is suing oil, power and coal companies, claiming their contributions to global warming threaten the community's existence.NOW WE KNOW WHY SO MANY LAWYERS BELIEVE IN AGW: THEY SEE IT AS A CASH COW.
The city of Kivalina and a federally recognized tribe, the Alaska Native village of Kivalina, is suing Exxon Mobil Corp. and nine other oil companies. The lawsuit filed Tuesday in federal court in San Francisco also names 14 power companies and one coal company.
Kivalina is an Inupiat Eskimo community of about 390 people about 625 miles northwest of Anchorage. Melting sea ice has left the community unprotected from fall and winter coastal storms.
The lawsuit says it would cost $400 million or more to relocate the village.
An Exxon Mobil spokesman says the company is reviewing the lawsuit and has no immediate comment.

This is ridiculous!! How many other people will be able to sue oil companies next? How can you sue over something that hasn't been proven? This is the same as people suing cigarette companies when they are the ones who choose to smoke. We use the gas, they just provide it. Oil companies are not responsible for our consumptions!! This will only raise the price of gas. This could be the cause of a warming trend in the climate. There was once an ice age, how do we know that this is not just the opposite? The problem with the world, and especially the US, is that everyone wants to blame everyone else in order to get something for nothing. These people chose to build a city on a barrier reef, as New Orleans built their city below sea level. Disasters will happen and their is nothing one can do except plan for it and try to be in the best possible situation once one does occur.
OK, protecting the environment is good, and we sould all try to reduce greenhouse gas emissions; however global warming is a crock of ****! In the 70's it was all about global cooling! We can not control mother nature and over centuries the weather will undoubtably change... This lawsuit is totally ridiculous. What's next? Are we going to sue every company that operates any type of factory? Sue Automakers because they make cars that omit gases??
