"It requires that everybody be covered. It requires that everybody get preventive care," he told a crowd sitting in lawn chairs in front of the Cedar County Courthouse. "If you are going to be in the system, you can't choose not to go to the doctor for 20 years. You have to go in and be checked and make sure that you are OK."
When politicians admit they will force you to see a doctor then they are admitting they are fascists.
When you allow the State to pay for your healthcare you open yourself up to this kind of invasive crap.
Ands it's potentially worse when you allow the State to pay your pension: then they have a financial interest in letting you die when you're old and sick: they save twice: they save the medical expense and the pension payout.
This is why we should PRIVATIZE pensions and healthcare. MSA's are the way to go. Not more nanny-statism.

I agree with everything you say in this post. However, I have a question for you:
Do you think Edwards has thought any of this out?
I doubt it myself. I think the guy just does and says what he thinks will get him votes, under the advisement of a half-assed liberal education.
In other words, I think all these ideas are all mushed up in his little pea-brain, and he has no grand scheme to remake things as we know it. He just likes the sound of the words.
Presumbaly, he would have some Campaign Manager helping him formulate how to articulate his policy, but I have a feeling that person is not much smarter than Edwards himself.

I think you are right. Edwards is launching a series of trial balloons that are 99% rhetoric and 1% program.
But that doesn't make it any less dangerous.
His trial balloons are also intended to have the general effect of making this sort of totalitarianism more palatable than it already is to the hard-core left.
