Yesterday, Harry Reid said that Iraq was worse than Vietnam. He is abso-effin-lutely WRONG.
The Vietnam War cost us the lives of 50,000 US troops. Iraq by comparison is peaceful. But the analogy doesn't just fail there - IT FAILS COMPLETELY, except in so far as the Left wants us to lose, and is doing EVERYTHING in its power to make sure we lose - NO MATTER THE CONSEQUENCES.
In 1975, the consequences were the collapse of the SVG and the invasion of South Vietnam by North Vietnam - in flagrant violation of the Paris Peace Treaty.
This led directly to 2 MILLION refugees - the Boat People, and the Pol Pot regime which murdered 4 MILLION in Cambodia. And the enslavement of 60 MILLION Vietnamese to a Marxist tyranny for 30 years.

And er um .. to further the "analogy" : it's only 1967!There is one analogy that does translate from Vietnam to Iraq: the Left is actively aiding the enemy and undercutting our efforts to spread democracy and halt the spread of totalitarianism. I KNOW: I WAS ON THE WRONG SIDE OF HISTORY IN THE 1960's-70's: I WAS AN ANTI-VIETNAM LEFTIE, THEN! BUT REAGAN PROVED ME - AND THE ENITRE LEFT WAS WRONG.

I was right then; and it's still right. Iraq is NOT like Vietnam AT ALL:
our casualties are low; Saddam is DEAD; the Iraqis have a democratic government and a constitution.Reid and Schumer and Teddy are trying to make us lose now as the Lefties did then - and they care not one iota about the horrific consequences. They are shameless Lefties who serve the enemy now as they did then. Treasonous traitors who actively push policies which ONLY help the enemy.

We have bought into the Military Industrial Complex (MIC).
Through a combination of public apathy and threats by the MIC we have let the SYSTEM get too large. It is now a SYSTEMIC problem and the SYSTEM is out of control.
I am a 2 tour Vietnam Veteran who recently retired after 36 years of working in the Defense Industrial Complex on many of the weapons systems being used by our forces as we speak.
There is no conspiracy. The SYSTEM has gotten so big that those who make it up and run it day to day in industry and government simply are perpetuating their existance.
The politicians rely on them for details and recommendations because they cannot possibly grasp the nuances of the environment and the BIG SYSTEM.
So, the system has to go bust and then be re-scaled, fixed and re-designed to run efficiently and prudently, just like any other big machine that runs poorly or becomes obsolete or dangerous.
This situation will right itself through trauma. I see a government ENRON on the horizon, with an associated house cleaning.
The next president will come and go along with his appointees and politicos. The event to watch is the collapse of the MIC.
