To give one relevant example, a recent Brookings Institute report on Iraq, shows the majority (yes, that means more than 50%) of Iraqis are living fairly safe and secure lives:

BETTER,CHECK OUT ANDY'S CORRECTION IN THE COMMENTS SECTION BELOW THE PIECE WHERE HE SHOWS 47% IRAQIS APPROVE OF ATTACKS ON AMERICANS AND THE VAST MAJORITY SAY SECURITY IS POOR AND THE COUNTRY IS ON THE WRONG TRACK!
the commenter ANDY is the one cherry-picking and twisting the polls: sure, maybe 54% of the respondents thionk they're poor, but twice that say things are improving.
the 47% number reflect that 90% of sunnis feel that way.
and the mookie shias.
they CANNOT defeat us or the rest of the iraqis.
it's IMPOSSIBLE.
those who claim this shows we are losing are jerks.
lookt: the sunnis are poissed we took away their power, and empowered the kurds and shoias whio had been the VICTIMS of sunni genocide.
OF COURSE they're pissed.
the overwhelming geographic and demographic facts is we are winning.
i read all the brookings stuff.
to a rational reader it's clear: iraq is in a tough place now - sure - but one which is an infinitely better than where they were.
and they are headed for a much better place.
if we dont abandon them.
