DEM CONGRESSMAN WETS PANTS; CALLS FOR WITHDRAWAL FROM IRAQ

CNN/AP: An influential House Democrat who voted for the Iraq war called Thursday for the immediate withdrawal of U.S. troops from Iraq, another sign of growing unease in Congress about the conflict. "This is the immediate redeployment of American forces because they have become the target," said Rep. John Murtha, D-Pennsylvania, one of Congress' most hawkish Democrats. At times during his remarks to reporters, the decorated Vietnam War veteran and former Marine was choking back tears. "It is time for a change in direction. Our military is suffering, the future of our country is at risk. We cannot continue on the present course. It is evident that continued military action in Iraq is not in the best interests of the United States of America, the Iraqi people or the Persian Gulf region," Murtha said.

This is Vietnam War Redux: the Democrats are pleading that we must abandon an ally in a war we are winning! I am sad to say it, but the Democrat Party - which I have belonged to since 1974 - is once again under the thrall of McGovernism.

The change which Clinton promised - when he procliamed himself a "New Democrat," one who "would change welfare as we know it" - has EVAPORATED. What's left? THE LEFT. And based on how they are dealing with Iraq, I feel that they are not to be trusted with our nation's defense. More HERE and HERE and HERE. And HERE and HERE and HERE and HERE. Here, too. Take your pick.

UPDATE: WOW! It seems that Murtha's pants have been wet since May 2004! (IN OTHER WORDS: THIS IS NOT NEWS; MURTHA SAID THE SAME THING 18 MONTHS AGO!) HUGE TIP OF THE HAT TO KJ LOPEZ OF NRO.

UPDATE #2: "A decorated Vietnam veteran, he [Murtha] choked back tears during his remarks to reporters." What is it with these crybabies - Murtha, Voinovich, Durbin, and Blanco: are they really lachrymose wimps or were they just crocodile tears?

UPDATE #3: Gateway Pundit has a complete timeline - over the past few years - of Murtha's gyrations on Iraq! (Via Professor Reynolds.)

For God's sake, I've got to stop commenting on your site.

But, I know you'll be interested in this one, so here:

Murtha is a Marine combat veteran and stalwart supporter of the military. What are your bona fides?

i am an American who is entieled to express my views. My views are entitled to the same respoect as any other American.

My arguments should be judged on their merits -the logic and facts - not who I am.

I am a fourth generation American whose with relatives who have served in the Armed forces in WW1, WW2, during the Vuetnam War, and with a relative going to Iraq SOON.

In 1974, I was given a lottery number for the draft - #45 (out of 365), and would have served BUT the draft was ended.

I regret not entering the miltary anyhow. Now I am too old.

There are many ways we can serve our nation in a time of war. Including keeping our resolve strong. That's whta I'm doing. And why.

The ONLY way we can lose to the islamofascists is if we lose our resolve.

The jihadoterrorists KNOW THIS.

this is the WHOLE AIM OF TERROR.

It is also - SADLY - the whole aim of the anti-war movement. To get us to quit with the job not yet done.

It was also the goal of the Left during the Vietnam War - I know: i was there/part of the Left/anti-war movement.

I do not want the Dem'Left to do to the Afghanis and Iraqis what we did to the Souith Vietnamese.

No eff off you jerk! It was an isulting and stupid question which didn't deserve any response!

Little sensitive, aren't we? Look, are we accomplishing anything there? Other than assisting in the recruitment of more extremists? It's time to make the Iraqi's fight for their own country. We can support them logistically and politically but occupation is an abject failure. Just like it was in Vietnam.

we are accomplishing a HUGE amount.
democrqacy. free markets.
the end of genocide.

if you read the milblogs and the iraqiblogs and paid attaention to the kurdish areas and the shia areas instead on the violence in the sunni area (baghdad) you KNOW this.

Many FOFs have been theree and returned - voluntarily.

More marines and soldiers whi have actually served there are re-upping THAN EVER!

that tells me it's going well.

you have bought the Leftist line: the war is unwinnable; it's a quagmire. BULLSHIT.

some say this is another Vietnam.

i got two things to say about that:

one: if in 1970 we had hochiminh on trail, had passed a national constitution, and had of course captured hanoi, then YES: IT'S JUST LIKE VIETNAM.

the ONLY ONLY ONLY way this can be like Vietnam is if the DEM/LEFT succeeds in getting us to withdraw prematurely.

abandon our ally.

even tho' we are winning.

like they did in 1975. two years after ALL US TROOPS WERE OUT OF VIETNAM.

we MUST stay until our job is done.

probably january 2007.

BTW: IRAQ has ZERO to do with islamofascist rcruiting in
thailand
india
kashmir
chechnya
algeria
sudan
yemen
afghanistan
pakistan. and many other places.

each of these areas have THEIR OWN jihadoterrorists attempting to do there what they are attempting to do in Iraq: use terror to establish Sharia and expand the Caliphate.

WAKE UP ALREADY!
