I would like to add that the "government workers" (like NEA teachers, and AFSCME white collar bureaucrats, and SEIU etc) are PAID FROM TAXES and are also HUGE supporters of the Democrat Party. They are perhaps the strongest backers of the party - in money, right after the Left-wing billionaires like Soros, Lewis, and Heinz-Kerry. And they might contribute the most to the Democrats when one takes into account manpower hours during campaigning and their get out the vote efforts.

This is OBVIOUSLY one reason why the Democrats FAVOR BIGGER GOVERNMENT AND INCREASING GOVERNMENT SPENDING: It's a PAYOFF their supporters.

In this light, it's OBVIOUS that the "government employeee union"/Democrat Party alignment nothing more than a self-serving "AXIS FOR TAXES" and that this is why the AXIS nearly always favors more government programs and higher taxes: in order to pay for higher wages and more perks for MORE government workers/union members.

(This AXIS has been a Democrat stronghold since the days of Tammany hall, but NEVER before did it so strongly reflect GOVERNMENT WORKERS as opposed to blue-collar workers.)

The GOP, on the other hand, favors LOWER TAXES, CUTTING GOVERNMENT SPENDING AND SHRINKING THE SIZE OF GOVERNMENT. The GOP is increasingly the party of TAXPAYERS, the self-employed and blue-collar workers.

Reporting from Sacramento -- Officials in the governor's office say a politically powerful union may have had inappropriate influence over the Obama administration's decision to withhold billions of dollars in federal stimulus money from California if the state does not reverse a scheduled wage cut for the labor group's workers.

The officials say they are particularly troubled that the Service Employees International Union, which lobbied the federal government to step in, was included in a conference call in which state and federal officials reviewed the wage cut and the terms of the stimulus package.

The federal criminal complaint filed against Mr. Blagojevich said his chief of staff, John Harris, had suggested to a service employees’ official that the union should help make the governor the head of Change to Win, the federation of seven unions that broke away from the A.F.L.-C.I.O. The complaint said Mr. Blagojevich was seeking a position that paid $250,000 to $300,000 a year.

In exchange, the complaint strongly suggested, the service employees union and Change to Win would help persuade Mr. Blagojevich to name Valerie Jarrett, President-elect Barack Obama’s first choice, as the state’s new senator. And the union would get help from the Obama administration, presumably for its legislative agenda.

Mayor Gavin Newsom may be San Francisco's leader, but he's only 29th on the list of highest-paid city employees, more than a third of whose earnings topped $100,000 last year.

Newsom, whose salary is $250,903, is one of 9,487 workers who grossed more than $100,000 last year, including overtime.

Top earner Charles Keohane, a former deputy police chief who earned $516,118, retired last year, cashing out stored-up vacation, sick days and comp time.

The highest salary among the city's nearly 27,000 workers is $332,489, earned by Nathaniel Ford, head of the agency that runs the city's light rail and bus systems.

Steve Falk, city Chamber of Commerce president and CEO, says state employment data show city workers average 20 percent more pay than the private sector. The city's Department of Human Resources found that San Francisco pays similar salaries as other locales in the region for some jobs and slightly more for others.

Deputy City Controller Monique Zmuda said city worker salaries averaged $93,000 before benefits. Almost 100 city employees made $200,000 or more in 2009. Six topped $300,000, including overtime and cash-outs.

Salaries accounted for $2.5 billion of the city's $6.6 billion budget for the fiscal year ending in June 2009. That does not include the costs of benefits.

He inherited a $2.2 billion deficit, and next year’s projected deficit of $10.7 billion is, relative to the state’s $29.3 billion budget, the nation’s worst. Democrats, with the verbal tic — "Tax the rich!" — that passes for progressive thinking, demanded that he reinstate the "millionaire’s tax," which hit "millionaires" earning $400,000 until it expired Dec. 31. Instead, Christie noted that between 2004 and 2008 there was a net outflow of $70 billion in wealth as "the rich," including small businesses, fled. And he said previous administrations had "raised taxes 115 times in the last eight years alone."

So he closed the $2.2 billion gap by accepting 375 of 378 suggested spending freezes and cuts. In two weeks. By executive actions. In eight weeks he cut $13 billion — $232 million a day, $9 million an hour. Now comes the hard part.

THE LIES BEHIND TWO POPULAR EUPHEMISMS OF THE LEFT: "social justice" and "economic justice"

Having frown up on the left, I'm very familiar with all the euphemisms and lies and propaganda of the left.

Two are in the news today: "economic justice" and "social justice".

In the most basic sense, these phrases are meant to clothe the naked desire of a particular faction to have the state coerce goodies from the general population and gift it to them.

IOW: All they really want is the state to take away the fruits of someone else's labor and give it to them.

This has been an especially easy THEFT for government unions to accomplish because they have a virtual monopoly: in most states only NEA, AFSCME, and SEIU unions and affiliates can supply workers to the government enterprises (schools, civil bureaucracies, hospitals, etc).

And these monopolistic unions use both fists to get what they want from the politicians they control and the public they effectively hold captive: one fist is the threat of strikes against the public - a devastating threat on account of their monopoly; and the other is donations to the corrupt politicians they control and who for decades have given away OUR MONEY to their cronies to help THEMSELVES GET RE-ELECTED. (This is the corrupt "axis of taxes" - and this axis - this "complex" - is WORSE than the so-called "military industrial complex".)

Real justice would be if these government unions did NOT have a monopoly over the government.

Real justice would be if workers had the CHOICE to join or not.

Real justice would be for the workers to pay their own fair share of benefits - like the rest of us, and not get a free ride, not have the power to feast off the fruits of our labors.

Real justice is for last November's election results to be respected, and the policies of the majority to be implemented.

I HAVE A MESSAGE FOR THE UNIONS AT THE CENTER OF THE AXIS OF TAXES:

if you don;t like the results, then try to win the next election.

Otherwise: STFU.

And stop using propagandistic slogans like "economic justice" and "social justice".

Real justice is balanced, and what's happening in Wisconsin - and in other states all over the USA - is a re-balancing of our budgets, our taxes, and our largess. The benefits packages and monopolies that government unions have enjoyed for the last several decades are unjust, and unaffordable. And they are ending now. It's not just about time - IT'S LONG OVERDUE.

As Opinion Journal reported today, the National Education Association gave $65 million to left-liberal groups to defeat voucher programs, charter schools, and Social Security reform.

The list of THE UNION'S goals reads just like a list of DNC goals - or, as the WSJ Op-ed goes on to say: "It's well understood that the NEA is an arm of the Democratic National Committee. (Or is it the other way around?)" RTWT! NOW!

Ministers are due to meet civil service union officials to discuss possible changes to redundancy terms, as they try to reduce costs of cutting staff.

Treasury figures suggest 600,000 public sector jobs could go over the next five years, as the coalition tries to slash the country's record budget deficit.

But last month, the government lost a court battle over attempts, started by Labour, to reduce redundancy payments.

Unions fear ministers plan emergency legislation to reverse the ruling.

The Cabinet Office has confirmed that ministers intend to press on with reform of the Civil Service Compensation Scheme (CSCS).

"As outlined in the coalition agreement, we are looking at ways to reform the CSCS to bring it more into line with good practice in the private sector," a spokesman said.

"Our intention would always be to seek to reach a negotiated agreement, which would include protection for lower paid civil servants."

'No status quo'

BBC political correspondent Gary O'Donoghue said the CSCS had in the past resulted in some payouts equivalent to six years' salary.

If agreement on reform could not be reached, ministers would have to amend the 1972 Superannuation Act which established the redundancy rules.

"Unions say letters have already gone to heads of human resources telling them they shouldn't assume the status quo will last for more than the next couple of months, suggesting change could be forced through," our correspondent added.

It emerged at the weekend that Chancellor George Osborne had ordered most government departments to draw up plans for budget cuts of up to 40%, as they prepare for October's spending review.

WISCONSIN TAX-TAKERS STAGE A BIG PROTEST

Thousands of public workers flooded the rotunda of the Capitol in Madison, Wis., protesting a proposal to cut benefits and remove most of their unions’ ability to bargain.

NYTIMES:

Scott Walker, the Republican who has been Wisconsin’s governor for about six weeks, calmly described his intent to forge ahead with plans to cut benefits to public workers and to sharply curtail collective bargaining rights in the state. Yes, some angry workers had surrounded his state car on Tuesday and started pounding on it. And yes, others had surrounded his home in Wauwatosa. But Mr. Walker said he had no other options.

“I’m trying to balance a budget,” he said.

... [TAX-TAKING GOVERNMENT UNION...] workers said they were frightened of what the cuts would mean for their family budgets, particularly for some workers who were already struggling. The changes call for them to pay 5.8 percent of their salary toward their pensions, much more than now, and at least 12.6 percent of their health care premiums, double their current contribution.[A SMALL CONTRIBUTION COMPARED TO WHAT TAX-PAYERS MUST CONTRIBUTE IN THE REAL WORLD!]

But workers also seemed worried about the broader, lasting impact of the proposed changes to the way public employee unions operate in the state.

Most unions would have to hold annual elections to keep their organizations intact and would lose the ability to have union dues deducted from state paychecks — making it more difficult, some here say, for unions to survive.

In other words, federal workers are paid on average salaries that are twice as generous as those in the private sector, and they receive benefits that are four times greater.
