Israel displays coins excavated from Jewish Temple site

A bronze coin dated by Israeli archaeologists to 69 AD is part of an exhibition in Jerusalem of rare coins excavated at the foot the Temple Mount, found charred and burned from when the Romans razed the Jewish Temple nearly two thousand years ago.

Israel displayed for the first time Wednesday a collection of rare coins charred and burned from the Roman destruction of the Jewish Temple nearly 2,000 years ago.

About 70 coins were found in an excavation at the foot of a key Jerusalem holy site. They give a rare glimpse into the period of the Jewish revolt that eventually led to the destruction of the Second Jewish Temple in A.D. 70, said Hava Katz, curator of the exhibition.

The Jews rebelled against the Roman Empire and took over Jerusalem in A.D. 66. After laying siege to Jerusalem, the Romans breached the city walls and wiped out the rebellion, demolishing the Jewish Temple, the holiest site in Judaism.

The coins sit inside a glass case, some melted down to unrecognizable chunks of pockmarked and carbonized bronze from the flames that destroyed the Temple.

Iranian President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad called on the US to choose between Israel and Iran on Tuesday night, according to Iranian state media.

Ahmadinejad said that for a real change in relations to take place, a choice must be made.

Speaking in Istanbul at the 25th Session of the Standing Committee for Economic and Commercial Cooperation (COMCEC) of the Organization of the Islamic Conference, the Iranian president said that it was up to US President Barack Obmaa to illustrate his motto of "Change."

"The support of both Israel and Iran can't go hand in hand," he was quoted as saying by IRNA. "No change is made unless great choices are made."

The jury is still out on the United Nations, and recent signs, recent signs are not encouraging.

Rather than condemning the terrorists and their Iranian patrons, some here in the United Nations have condemned their victims. That is exactly what a recent UN report on Gaza did, falsely equating terrorists with those they targeted.

For eight long years, Hamas fired rockets, fired those rockets from Gaza on nearby Israeli cities and citizens thousands of missiles, mortars, hurling down from the sky on schools, on homes, shopping centers, bus stops. Years aft, year after year as these missiles were deliberately fired on our civilians not a single, not one UN resolution was passed condemning those criminal attacks.

We heard nothing – absolutely nothing – from the UN Human Rights Council, a misnamed institution if there ever was one.

In 2005, hoping to advance peace, Israel unilaterally withdrew from every inch of Gaza. It was very painful. We dismantled 21 settlements, really bedroom communities and farms. We uprooted over 8,000 Israelis, we just yanked them out from their homes.

We did this because many in Israel believed that this would get peace. Well, we didn’t get peace. Instead we got an Iranian backed terror base fifty miles from Tel Aviv. But life in the Israeli towns and cities immediately next to Gaza became nothing less than a nightmare.

You see, the Hamas rocket launchers and the rocket attacks not only continued after we left, they actually increased dramatically, they increased tenfold. And again, the UN was silent – absolutely silent.

Well, finally, after eight years of this unremitting assault, Israel was forced to respond. But how should we have responded?

Well, there is only one example in history of thousands of rockets being fired on a country’s civilian population. This happened when the Nazis rocketed British cities during World War II.

During that war, the allies leveled German cities, causing hundreds of thousands of casualties. I’m not passing judgement, I’m stating a fact. A fact that is the product of the decision of great and honorable men, the leaders of Britain and the United States fighting an evil force in World War II. It is also a fact that Israel chose to respond differently. Faced with an enemy committing a double war crime of firing on civilians while hiding behind civilians – Israel sought to conduct surgical strikes directed against the rocket launchers themselves.

Now mind you that was no easy task because the terrorists were fighting missiles, firing their missiles from homes and schools, they were using mosques as weapons depots, as missile caches and they were ferreting explosives in ambulances.

Israel, by contrast, tried to minimize casualties by urging Palestinian civilians to vacate the targeted areas. We dropped countless flyers, they cannot be counted there were so many obviously, countless fliers over their homes, we sent thousands and thousands of text messages to the Palestinian residents. We made thousands and thousands of cellular phone calls urging them to vacate, to leave.

Never has a country gone to such extraordinary lengths to remove the enemy’s civilian population from harm’s way. Yet faced with a absolutely clear cut case of aggressor and victim, who do you think the UN Human Rights Council decided to condemn? Israel.

A democracy legitimately defending itself against terror is morally hanged, drawn and quartered, and given an unfair trial to boot.

By these twisted standards, the UN Human Rights Council would have dragged Roosevelt and Churchill to the dock as war criminals. What a perversion of truth! What a perversion of justice!

Now, delegates of the United Nations and the governments whom you represent, you have a decision to make: will you accept this farce? Because if you do, the United Nations would revert to its darkest days, when the worst violators of human rights sat in judgment against the law-abiding democracies, when Zionism was equated with racism and when an automatic majority could be mustered to declare that the earth is flat.

If you had to choose a date when the United Nations began its descent, almost a free fall and lost the respect of many thoughtful people in the international community, it was that decision in 1975 to equate Zionism with racism.

Now, this body has a choice to make, if this body does not reject this bias report it would vitiate itself, it would begin or re-begin the process of vitiating itself from its own relevance and importance. But, it would do something else, it would send a message to the terrorists everywhere, saying: Terrorism pays; all you have to do is launch your attacks from densely populated areas, and you will win immunity.

And then a third thing, in condemning Israel, this body would also deal a mortal blow to peace. Let me explain why. When Israel left Gaza, many hoped that the missile attacks would stop. Others believed that even if they don’t stop, that at the very least, Israel would have this gesture, extraordinary gesture for peace, but it would have international legitimacy to exercise its right of self-defense if peace failed.

What legitimacy? What self-defense?

The same UN that cheered Israel as we left Gaza, the same Un that promised to back our right of self-defense now accuses us –my people, my country – of being war criminals? And for what? For acting responsibly in self-defense. For acting in a way that any country would act, with a restraint unmatched by many. What a travesty!

Ladies and gentlemen, Israel justly defended itself against terror. This biased and unjust report provides a clear-cut test for all governments. Will you stand with Israel or will you stand with the terrorists?

We must know the answer to that question now. Now, not later. Because if Israel is again asked to take more risks for peace, we must know today that you will stand with us tomorrow.

Only if we have the confidence that we can defend ourselves can we take further risks for peace.

“Every construct we’ve built in American life is falling apart. Why? Because of personal greed and ambition. Capitalism without regulation can’t protect us against personal greed."

Interesting.

As Mr. Treacher notes, Jim Carrey is the beneficiary of one of the most unregulated capitalist endeavors on the planet.

Yet he grew up in Ontario.

Had he wanted to be "protected against personal greed," he could have remained up north where his own particular industry is one of the most regulated in a highly regulated land.

He could have made publicly funded movies subsidized by Cinedole Canada and Telewelfare Quebec and all the other government agencies for a nice four- or (if he's lucky) five-figure sum.

And yet he chose to reject this bulwark against "personal greed" and scram south.

Poor wretch.

When in-your-face, Islam-driven slaughters such as the jihad at Fort Hood and 9/11 occur, the msm have to break a least a few lines of political correctness. Not for long, but possibly for long enough for those who still have eyes and mind to do a bit of research about the motives. And once that bit of research is done, BHO loses even more of smidgen of credibility he has.

Let the multiculturalists perseverate. The truth will seep through anyway, and the American people will rally as patriots. At least, such is what I hope will be the only good outcome of the jihad at Fort Hood.

The Military's Arab Student Visa Racket

I've written before about the Arab student visa racket in our universities, whereby state universities and first-tier colleges allow admissions committees, many headed by department chairs who are Saudi Agenda department adjuncts, to admit an inordinate number of Arab students, most of them from Egypt, Saudi Arabia, and Jordan. Universities, of course, facilitate this by fraudulently accrediting courses and degrees from nations with horrible educational systems which teach about Islam and little else. This system ends up placing people who believe that the earth is flat and that 6 and 8 are the same number into prominent, respectable PhD, legal, and even medical programs. Once in these programs, these students are not held to the same standards as other students, either academically or in terms of their social behavior, and they can pretty much get away with anything.

Universities do this both out of sympathy - for those who hate us the most, for anti-Semites, and for other leftists - and for Saudi money. It's part some sort of cultural affirmative action program, part prostitution. India has a vastly superior educational system to every Arab country, yet universities are not crawling with Indian Muslims. Saudi money, or the hope of it, is exchanged for hijrah tickets furnished by universities, hence the "racket" designation.

You didn't think the Saudis shelled out all that money just for a tacit understanding that certain cartoons would not be printed, did you?

It appears that we have a very similar problem to the Arab student visa racket in our military, which I called immediately as soon as I heard about the Ft. Hood massacre, especially after I had seen Hasan's writings.

On Sunday evening, a ranking officer in Hasan's medical chain of command raced to cover her butt. Asked why the killer was promoted to major after receiving career-killer performance reviews at Walter Reed, the officer claimed that Hasan faced the same promotion board requirements as everyone else.

Liar, liar, uniform on fire: A dirty big secret in our Army has been that officers' promotion boards have quotas for minorities. We don't call them quotas, of course. But if a board doesn't hit the floor numbers, its results are held up until the list has been corrected. It's almost impossible for the Army's politically correct promotion system to pass over a Muslim physician.

Sen. Joe Lieberman, one of the few lawmakers willing to whisper the word "terrorism," needs to call the officers who sat on Hasan's promotion board before the Senate, put them under oath, then ask if Hasan made major because of minority-quota requirements.

This corrupt (and now deadly) affirmative-action system does a severe disservice to the bulk of minority officers, who make the grade on quality and professionalism. It leaves other officers wondering if the new guy who just showed up in the unit is a "real" officer or an affirmative-action baby.

But soldiers who happen to be Muslims must be subject to the same level of scrutiny and discipline as those of other faiths.

What I don't understand is why the military does this. Universities are panhandlers, always looking for a handout, but the military? Why would they allow this? They are not in line for a huge donation from a Saudi prince.

One the one hand, the Army obviously held Hasan to low academic standards. It is clear that he was not doctor material. I'm just talking about his English skills and the fact that he gave a presentation on Islam and jihad during an environmental health class. People who write at second-grade level and use class presentations to spout off about crazy stuff don't ordinarily make it to the very top of the educational ladder, unless they're Arab, in which case they are usually given carte blanche.

On the other hand, there is the fact that the military knew that he was a dangerous jihadi for at least two years. His colleagues repeatedly spoke up, only to be repeatedly rebuked or dismissed by their superiors.

Hasan not only got by academically, but got promoted to major militarily.

The military not only provides free education to the academically inferior, but career advancement to those who are dedicated to destroying us. What, conceivably, would the Army not have tolerated from Hasan? What is going on in our military?

Those quotas to which Ralph Peters refers in the excerpted section above are racial ones. The military has no Muslim quota, but it sounds like it has an Arab quota.

The military actually actively recruits from among American Arab communities, which seems a bit odd, but benign, so long as a good screening process is in place, they get rid of the bad apples, and they hold everyone to the same standards.

Our intelligence community also recruits in Arab American communities, which is possibly even more terrifying, although it does explain why emails to al-Qaeda were dismissed as coursework and a known jihadi was allowed to slide as an Army officer.

This is the precious diversity regarded as invaluable to General Casey. If Hasan serves as an example, unity and cohesiveness are not so important, just sheer numbers of people belonging to certain racial groups.

"He was very vocal about being a Muslim first and holding Shari'a law above the Constitution," this officer recalls. When fellow students asked, "How can you be an officer and hold to the Constitution?," the officer says, Hasan would "get visibly upset — sweaty and nervous — and had no good answers." This medical doctor would speak only anonymously because his commanders have ordered him not to talk about Hasan, he says.

This officer says he was so surprised when Hasan gave a talk about "the war on terror being a war on Islam" that he asked the lieutenant colonel running the course what Hasan's presentation had to do with health care. "I raised my hand and asked, 'Why are you letting this go on — this has nothing to do with environmental health.' The course director said, 'I'm just going to let him go.' "

And he did. He probably gave him an A.

12 soldiers and first responders, plus a baby, died for racial quotas. If this is diversity, count me out.

The world is much closer to running out of oil than official estimates admit, according to a whistleblower at the International Energy Agency who claims it has been deliberately underplaying a looming shortage for fear of triggering panic buying.

The senior official claims the US has played an influential role in encouraging the watchdog to underplay the rate of decline from existing oil fields while overplaying the chances of finding new reserves.

The allegations raise serious questions about the accuracy of the organisation's latest World Energy Outlook on oil demand and supply to be published tomorrow – which is used by the British and many other governments to help guide their wider energy and climate change policies.

In particular they question the prediction in the last World Economic Outlook, believed to be repeated again this year, that oil production can be raised from its current level of 83m barrels a day to 105m barrels. External critics have frequently argued that this cannot be substantiated by firm evidence and say the world has already passed its peak in oil production.

Now the "peak oil" theory is gaining support at the heart of the global energy establishment. "The IEA in 2005 was predicting oil supplies could rise as high as 120m barrels a day by 2030 although it was forced to reduce this gradually to 116m and then 105m last year," said the IEA source, who was unwilling to be identified for fear of reprisals inside the industry. "The 120m figure always was nonsense but even today's number is much higher than can be justified and the IEA knows this.

But, the truth is, the United States has five times more oil than Saudi Arabia,

and we keep finding more all the time,

and this is because oil is a naturally-occurring substance produced by the Earth.


Why do leftists love to spin Peak Oil fantasies? Probably because Green is the new Red. Probably because if they can convince us that oil is an energy resource limited in supply and dangerous to our environment, they can then intimidate us into believing that we can not continue to expand our economies, we can not continue to grow, and we can not continue to produce human beings.

Ultimately, it all comes down to the Individual. The Left is at war with the Individual, and that is manifested in the fact that the Left wants less Individual human beings on Earth. Hence all these Armageddon-fantasies about the limitations of the Earth to supply human beings with what they need.

Whatever we believe, we can achieve. We can solve any problem that comes our way. That is the optimism of the Right. History has born out that lesson.

ISRAEL AND JORDAN CONDUCT JOINT ARMY EXERCISE ON "EARTHQUAKES"

Something very strange is going on in the ME. Earlier today, we had Al Qaeda, essentially, calling for Israel to attack Iran. (Note; Reliapundit believes this may be CIA disinformation.)

And now, we have Jordan and Israel working together on a "Earthquake" scenario which involved the demolition of several buildings:

Israel and Jordan conducted a drill simulating an earthquake in the Beit She'an Valley on Monday. According to an Army Radio report on Tuesday morning, IDF Home Front Command forces and their Jordanian counterparts practiced evacuating and treating earthquake victims.

To create the full effect, a number of buildings were demolished in Kibbutz Messilot. According to the radio report, the two armies worked in full cooperation, to create common grounds in case of future emergencies.

The drill was kept under wraps until its conclusion to avoid exposing Jordan to negative sentiment, which could have brought about a cancellation.

Last month marked the 15th anniversary of the Israeli-Jordanian peace agreement, but Jordan has been lashing out at Israel over recent clashes between Arab rioters and security forces in Jerusalem's Old City, warning that Israel's continued "provocative behavior" in the city could "derail all opportunities for peace and stability in the region."

On Monday, Jordan's King Abdullah II called on Israelis and Palestinians to refrain from any action which undermines the chances for Middle East peace, and said Israel must treat the Jerusalem issue with sensitivity.

The leader of Al-Qaida in the Arabian Penninsula warned Tuesday that Shi'ite Muslims, particularly Iran, posed more danger to the world than either Jews or Christians.

"They [Shiites] are being driven by a greed to take over Muslim countries and they are full of a wish to annihilate Sunnis," Mohammed bin Abdul Rahman al-Rashid said in an audio recording carried by the U.S. monitoring group SITE Intelligence.

"Their threat to Islam and its people is much bigger than that from Jews and Christians," he added. The majority of the world's Muslims are Sunni, but Iran and the Lebanon-based group Hezbollah are both Shi'ite.

"We call on the nation ... to stand by [Sunnis] with whatever means they can against the danger of Iran and those who follow [the Shiite] faith in the region," added Rashid. He also accused Shi'ites branch of helping to facilitate the U.S.-led invasions of Afghanistan and Iraq.

Or, is this a setup against Israel, wherein Al Qaeda would, essentially, kill two birds with one stone?

Does Al Qaeda believe Israel can take care of their problem which in turn would inflame the Arab World against Israel so that they can stoke an all-out war between Islam and the West/Israel?

CNN Tries to Talk to Peaceful, Moderate Mohammedans Who Push Back Against Extremism, Interviews Al-Qaeda-Linked Leader of Young Muslim Jihad Camp

See, Shamsi Ali is a good guy.

Inside the sleek, modernistic house of worship, Imam Shamsi Ali preaches against the violence that now sweeps many Muslim countries.

"What we try to do is reminding our people about the real Islam," Ali said. "We tell them what the real Islam is all about. Islam is about peace. Islam is about moderation. Islam is about friendship. Islam is opposed to any kind of hatred against anybody."

He tells on the bad guys:

"We spoke to law enforcement about them, because we are disgusted with their behavior," said Shamsi Ali, an imam at the Islamic Cultural Center of New York, a mosque at 96th Street and Third Avenue.

Unfortunately for CNN's narrative, in 2006 Shamsi Ali helped lead a demonstration against the Danish cartoons at which protesters held signs reading "Insult the Prophet, you will pay. Allah's wrath is on its way."

What a great imam. He's the same Shamsi Ali who runs "Jihad School." He's got multiple Muslim Brotherhood associations, not to mention ties to al-Qaeda.

Shamsi Ali also has ties to the Muslim Brotherhood and Al Qaeda. In 2006 he spoke at a Young Muslim camp organised by the Islamic Circle of North America/Muslim American Society (the American wing of the Ikwan). Another speaker was New Jersey Imam Mazen Mokhtar who was tied to UK terrorist Ahmed Babar (who was jailed for planning to attack Heathrow airport). In the court documents Mokhtar was accused of setting up mirror websites for Azzam.com (named after the Al Qaeda ideolouge Abdullah Azzam the mentor of Bin Laden). According to law enforcement the sites were intended to raise funding and recruit fighters for the Taliban and Al Qaeda.

Those would be same ICNA and MAS Youth Muslim camps (a.k.a. Young Muslim Jihad Camps) which have been closely tied to homicide bombing plots.

Young Muslims are an interesting group themselves.

So multiple strong al-Qaeda links and Muslim Brotherhood ties, threatening violence in the streets, and a career history as a leader of Jihad Camp qualify someone as a representative of peaceful, friendly, non-hateful American Islam in CNN's book.

OBAMA'S CAIRO SHOUT-OUT

Raymond Ibrahim has an interesting analysis of the citation from the Holy Qu'ran used by Barack Obama in his Cairo speech to the Ummah (and that's what it was; Obama was self-consciously addressing the Ummah, not the people of Egypt or any other country.)

Consider: When President Barack Hussein Obama addressed the Islamic world from Cairo on June 4, 2009, he said: “As the Holy Koran tells us, ‘Be conscious of God and speak always the truth’ [Sura 9:119]. That is what I will try to do — to speak the truth as best I can, humbled by the task before us.” Let us for the moment put aside the fact that Sura 9, from whence Obama quotes, contains the most violent and intolerant exhortations in all the Koran (which is saying something). The problem here is that the original Arabic text of Sura 9:119 says absolutely nothing about “speaking the truth.” The word “speaking” is nowhere in the text, and “truth,” as an abstract, is a wrong translation for sadiqin, which refers to people. The verse most literally translates as “fear Allah and be with the truthful.” In other words, Muslims should stand firm with fellow Muslims (“truthful” serving as a Koranic epithet for “Muslims” the same way “believers” often does). It is, as ever, a call for divisiveness — of Muslims (the “truthful”) versus infidels (the “false”).

Had Obama or his Mideast advisors and speechwriters simply bothered to read this verse in context — verse 9:111, a jihadi all-time favorite, looms just above, promising believers paradise in exchange for their killing and being killed — or if they had bothered consulting mainstream Muslim exegeses, they might have known that this verse is part of a Koranic segment that deals exclusively with fighting infidels: Muhammad and several Muslims were preparing to invade Byzantine territory. Some Muslims wanted to stay behind. It was then that Allah/Muhammad threatened them with this verse to “fear Allah and be with the truthful” (i.e., join ranks with your fellow Muslims on the warpath). Sentences later, this exhortation culminates in one of the most famous calls to violence in all the Koran, regularly evoked by modern-day jihadis: “O you who believe, fight those infidels who dwell around you, and let them find harshness in you!” [9:123]. [Emphases added.]

What makes Mr. Ibrahim think that Obama didn't know that? What if Obama, having been raised as a Muslim child in Jakarta, actually knows what's in the Holy Qu'ran? What if he meant it when, in an interview during the campaign, he referred to his "Muslim faith?" What if his Cairo speech was really a "shout-out" to fellow enthusiasts for a renewed Caliphate? What if he sees himself not as the Christian messiah, but as the Caliph?

Is that so far fetched?
