In America’s darkest hour, Franklin Delano Roosevelt urged the nation not to succumb to “nameless, unreasoning, unjustified terror.” But that was then.
YEAH: and then FDR fire-bombed a dozen cities killing hundreds of thousands of civilians and started the Manhattan Project on which spent an amount almost equal to the entire GDP IN TOTAL SECRET - he didn't tell the ACLU or the even the Veep.
AND LET'S NOT FORGET THE FEARLESSNESS WITH WHICH FDR "INTERNED" ALL THOSE JAPANESE AMERICANS!
If Bush had been fighting this war - WW4 - like FDR & Truman fought WW2, then he'd a nuked Tora Bora, fire-bombed Fallujah, interned all Musilms, and executed the detainees at Abu Graihb and Gitmo - FOR STARTERS!
Krugman doesn't think the jihadists are really so evil or formidable. According to Krugman, 9/11 was:
"...an atrocity committed by a fundamentally weak, though ruthless adversary..."
Sheesh: (NOT INCLUDING AL QAEDA'S IRAQ ATROCITIES) the jihadist enemy has attacked 10,000 times GLOBALLY since 9/11, killing tens of thousands and has nearly toppled Pakistan - a nuclear power. They may yet do so.
Krugman's main point seems to be that Bush is using fear to make his administration's desire to preemptively attack Iran (in order to neutralize their illegal nuclear program) more popular.
Well, what would Krugman have us do... WAIT UNTIL WE KNOW FOR SURE THAT IRAN ALREADY HAS A BOMB?!?! Then, it's too late.
FDR waited a decade too long before attacking the Nazis. He and the West waited YEARS after Hitler had violated all the terms of Versailles and had built up the biggest military in Europe. That's why 70 million died in WW2 - when none had to if we had only attacked Hitler in 1936 or 1939. That's why Churchill - who was called a WARMONGER all throughout the 1930's - called WW2 an entirely avoidable war: IF WE HAD ACTED EARLIER WE COULD HAVE STOPPED HITLER BEFORE HE TOOK OVER NEARLY ALL OF EUROPE. If he had had the bomb, he would have kept all of it, too..
We don't have to make that same mistake. We don't have to wait until it's too late.
If al Qaeda was really as benign as Krugman and his comrades on the Left assert, (AND IF BUSHCHENEYHALLIBURTIONHITLER are really as evil as Krugman and his comrades on the Left would have you believe), then why are ALL the Sunni sheiks and their tribesmen flocking TO OUR SIDE!?
The Sunni Triangle was once al Qaeda's stronghold, but the enemy's ruthlessness and our beneficence opened the eyes of the Sunnis and drove them to OUR SIDE.
I welcome Krugman to join us, too.

BOTTOM-LINE: I agree with Krugman:
- I DO WISH BUSH WAS MORE LIKE FDR - the fearless FDR who did whatever he had to to win and didn't fight with one hand behind his back in order to please effete Leftist pedants and "journalists" like Krugman and his comrades at the NYTIMES and the MSM.
And, I wish Krugman and his comrades were more like Ernie Pyle, and less like Tokyo Rose and Lord Haw Haw.
COMPLETE ROUND UP AT MEMEORANDUM.
