A woman and her four children killed Friday, their charred bodies found with the woman's arms around the youngsters, might have been safe if they had stayed at home.

DAY 4 of deadly fires: Fires rage in Greece as SEVEN PEOPLE CHARGED WITH ARSON.
They remain nameless. Why? Those depraved savages set a country on fire, the public deserves to know no matter who it is. I have searched all news sources. Any Atlas readers have a clue?

Forty-four fires in Greece, started by aronist's - time-coordinated indendiary devices triggered by cell-phones - and this is all the New York Times has to say:

The government, seeking to deflect criticism, has meantime blamed arson, reportedly arresting seven people for setting various fires, which have flared around the nation, most here on the Peloponnese peninsula and on Evia island north of Athens. Adding to conspiracy theories blasted over an alarmist Greek news media — including the possibility that the fires were started as a hostile act from abroad — a Greek prosecutor on Monday ordered an investigation into whether the fires might be prosecuted under the nation’s antiterrorism laws.

Construction is one of Greece's main industries, and some observers believe that developers are hoping to move in on the areas where forest has been destroyed.

The government has insisted however that trees will be re-planted, partly to prevent illegal construction.

Papangelopoulos yesterday ordered an investigation to determine "whether the crimes of arsonists and of arson attacks on forests carried out in the country during the summer of 2007" could come under Greece's anti-terrorism law, the public order ministry said in a statement.

The investigation will also seek to establish the identities of those responsible, the statement said.

Treating arson as a potential act of terrorism would give authorities broader powers of investigation and arrest.

A senior prosecutor ordered an investigation Monday to examine whether the fires could be termed acts of terrorism or organized crime - allowing authorities broader powers of investigation and arrest.

Public Order Minister Vyron Polydoras said the Secret Service and anti-terrorism squad had joined police in investigating the blazes. ``We have indications (arsonists were involved), witness testimonies and finds which require investigation,'' he said.

An official of the WWF environmental group, however, dismissed the notion of an orchestrated arson campaign.

``I think these are very dangerous assessments, particularly when the evidence so far does not seem to back them,'' said Theodota Nantsou, the group's conservation manager for Greece.

Prime Minister Costas Karamanlis has indicated that many blazes were intentionally set.

ME: it was terror if the INTENT was to inflict terror.

if the intent was to take over land for development then it is not terror.
