IF MUBARAK HAD LISTENED TO BUSH AND RICE IN 2005 (VIDEO), THEN HIS SON GAMAL MIGHT BE LEADING EL BARADEI IN PRE-ELECTION POLLING RIGHT NOW...
AND HALF THE MEDITERRANEAN AND 5/7TH'S OF THE MIDDLE EAST WOULDN'T BE HEADING TOWARD IRANIAN-STYLE TOTALITARIANISM.
SIGH.
MUST SEE VIDEO OF SECRETARY RICE LECTURING STUDENTS - AND BY EXTENSION MUBARAK AND EVERY OTHER ARAB TYRANT - AT AMERICAN UNIVERSITY OF CAIRO IN 2005 HERE.
A FEW MIDDLE EAST PREDICTIONS FOR 2011
1 - SAAD HARIRI WILL BE ASSASSINATED - PERHAPS AS SOON AS A FEW WEEKS
2 - KING HUSSEIN OF JORDAN WILL BE ASSASSINATED - PERHAPS AS SOON AS FEW MONTHS
3 - EL BARADEI WILL BE ASSASSINATED AFTER A FEW MONTHS IN POWER, AND AFTER THE MUSLIM BROTHERHOOD IS FIRMLY ENSCONCED IN THE NEW EGYPTIAN GOVERNMENT
4 - MOROCCO'S KING MOHAMED VI WILL BE ASSASSINATED
5 - TURKEY WILL END ALL DIPLOMATIC RELATIONS WITH ISRAEL AND OFFICIALLY RECOGNIZE PALESTINE.
6 - AND IN THE NEXT YEAR - TO APPEASE THE BURGEONING ISLAMIST HEGEMONY OVER NORTH AFRICA AND THE MIDDLE EAST AND THE GULF STATES AND THE SUEZ CANAL - (RATHER THAN CONFRONTING IT), OBAMA WILL ABSTAIN FROM BLOCKING AN AGGRESSIVE ANTI-ISRAEL, BINDING UNSC RESOLUTION , AND ISRAEL IS COMPLETELY ISOLATED...
UNDER BARACK HUSSEIN OBAMA, ISLAMISM IS ASCENDANT.
SURPRISE, SURPRISE, SURPRISE.
THE FIRST 5 ACTIONS ARE ALL WELL WITHIN THE REACH OF IRAN.
TO IRAN, THEY ARE NOTHING MORE THAN MID-GAME CHESS MOVES - LIKE TAKING A BISHOP OR A KNIGHT.
TOO BAD FOR US, WE DON'T SEEM TO HAVE AS MANY OF IRAN'S PIECES UNDER THREAT AS THEY HAVE OF OURS.
TO SAVE OURSELVES FROM BEING CHECK-MATED BY IRAN AND GLOBAL JIHAD, IT WILL TAKE SOME VERY BOLD MOVES ON OUR PART....
EL BARADEI, IRAN AND THE MUSLIM BROTHERHOOD HAVE ALL BUT OVERTHROWN MUBARAK AND TAKEN OVER THE MIDDLE EAST - and what comes next...

IT IS A FACT THAT: as chief of the IAEA, El Baradei might as well have been in cahoots with Iran for years - he was always running interference for them and the IAEA for all intents and purposes allowed Iran to go nuclear.
(BTW: He was director of the IAEA when Pakistan got their nukes and while the AQ Khan network expanded helping Libya, and while North Korea went nuclear. HECKUVA JOB MOHAMED!)
IMHO, this scenario and subtext makes sense:
In return for this - (and as part of the islamists overall plan to destroy the "Great Satan" and the "Little Satan", restore the Caliphate and subjugate the free world) - Iran agreed to see to it that El Baradei was installed as the next "Caliph of Cairo".
This plan has probably been in effect for at least 5 years - probably more: Iranians invented chess and are patient chess-players - patiently moving pieces in position over years.
El Baradei is probably not a jihadist, but he is most definitely a postmodern leftist who sees the USA and the West as evil - just as Obama's mentor at Columbia --- Edward Said --- did!) - and he probably is happy that Pakistan and soon Iran have nukes to be an effective counter-weight to USA hegemony.
El Baradei probably sees this as the only way to subjugate the USA and Israel to the will of the "international community."
And, he probably thinks he is using the Iranians to promote a postmodernist and socialist and UTOPIANIST world.
Hence, he probably thinks a nuclear Iran and an anti-American North Africa and Middle East is worth killing a few million or several million people through war and starvation.
And hence, this endeavor also worth driving up oil to $500 dollars a gallon.
YES: the postmodernists think that the USA and Israel and fossil fuels are so very evil that getting rid of them would be worth destroying the present world economy and bringing on a totally global and viciously kinetic final battle to WW4.
FACT: The Iranians have been lying to the IAEA and trying to go nuclear for 2 decades.FACT: They have patiently and DIRECTLY been undermining us in Iraq - with aid to the Sadrists and IED's for example.
FACT: they have undermined us in Afghanistan - by aiding the Taliban.
FACT: they have been undermine us in Lebanon and in Syria.
NOW: By effectively taking Lebanon and Egypt, the Iranians are now in control of MOST the nations surrounding Israel.
As soon as they topple Jordan - which I expect to happen within the year, they will have surrounded Israel AND SAUDI ARABIA.
I believe this is something they intend on achieving by the time the USA exits Iraq.
The only way to stop the IRANIAN/ISLAMIST takeover of north Africa and the Middle East and the Gulf States - and 50% of the world's oil, and the Suez Canal, and HALF OF THE MEDITERRANEAN is to attack Iran and destroy that regime.
We have until about a year after we exit Iraq - now publicly scheduled for the end of 2011... which means we have until December 2012...
BOTTOM-LINE:
El Baradei is either a dupe of Iran and the Muslim Brotherhood, or he thinks he's outsmarting them.
I think in matters not which.
He is functionally just like the islamist returning to Tunisia - probably to take over:
part of Iranian backed islamist hegemony -
AND MORE DANGEROUS TO US THAN MUBARAK EVER WAS.
UH-OH: EVEN LEBANON IS EVACUATING ITS CITIZENS FROM EGYPT!

MOUNTAIN-CLIMBER SURVIVES 1000 FT FALL

HE FELL 1000 FEET AND WALKED AWAY. UNBELIEVABLE:
A climber has astonished rescuers by plunging almost 1,000ft down a mountain and emerging with only cuts and bruises.
The climber fell 1,000ft from a peak five miles east of Ben Nevis (pictured) The 35-year-old was found standing up and reading a map, all but unscathed after the death-defying fall in Scotland.
He had reached the summit of the 3,589ft Sgurr Choinnich Mor when he lost his footing and fell down the steep, craggy slope.
... He was said to be "shaking from extreme emotional shock and the sheer relief at still being alive".The man was found at 2,600ft, making his fall almost 1,000ft from the summit.
Sgurr Choinnich Mor is a fine pointed peak at the south-west end of the Grey Corries range. The summit ridge is quite narrow and the rocky north-west face drops steeply on the Glen Spean side of the mountain, but the south-east face overlooking the watershed at the head of Glen Nevis is more grassy. The south-west ridge goes over the outlying top, Sgurr Choinnich Beag, which is very similar in shape to its higher neighbour.
THIS WAS A MIRACLE.

YOU'D RATHER BUY A CAR MADE IN SOUTH KOREA THAN ONE MACE IN CHANE WOULDN'T YOU?China's state broadcaster is facing questions after internet users spotted that footage in a report on air force manoeuvres in a national newscast was taken from the 1980s Hollywood film Top Gun.
China Central Television, or CCTV, aired the footage in a January 23 report on a People's Liberation Army Air Force training exercise, showing a plane firing a missile at another.
The second aircraft plane was destroyed in a fiery explosion and the dramatic footage was shown in between interviews with air force officers.
However, some internet users recognised the explosion from the dogfight in the final scene of the 1986 film Top Gun, starring Tom Cruise.
The Wall Street Journal posted a side-by-side video comparison of the CCTV news report and the Top Gun scene on its website, showing the two were identical.

MORE PROOF THAT IRAN AND ISLAMISM ARE BEHIND THE ARAB UPRISINGS?
NYTIMES:APHammam Saeed says Arabs have grown disgruntled with U.S. domination of their oil wealth, military occupation of Iraq and Afghanistan and its support for “totalitarian” leaders in the region.
Hopeful that the protests sweeping Arab lands may create an opening for hard-line Islamic forces, conservatives in Iran are taking deep satisfaction in the events in Tunisia, Egypt and Yemen, where secular leaders have faced large-scale uprisings.I HAVE A HUNCH IRAN IS DOPING MORE THAN MERELY APPLAUDING FORM THE SIDELINES.While the government of President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad confronted its own popular uprising two years ago — and successfully suppressed it — conservatives in Iran said they saw little similarity between those events and the Arab revolts, and instead likened the recent upheavals to Iran’s own 1979 Islamic revolution.
“In my opinion, the Islamic Republic of Iran should see these events without exception in a positive light,” said Mohammad-Javad Larijani, secretary general of the Iranian High Council for Human Rights and one of the most outspoken figures among Iran’s traditional conservatives.
He made it clear that he hoped that the “anti-Islamic” government of Zine el-Abidine Ben Ali, who was ousted in Tunisia, would be replaced by a “people’s government,” meaning one in which conservative Islamic forces would gain the upper hand, as they did when Iranian people overthrew Shah Mohammed Reza Pahlavi, establishing a quasi-theocracy.
I HAVE A HUNCH THAT IRAN AND ITS ISLAMIST ALLIES AND STOOGES IN THE MUSLIM BROTHERHOOD HAVE INSTIGATED, AND INFILTRATED AND FINANCED THE RECENT REVOLTS IN TUNIS AND EGYPT AND WILL SOON UNLEASH ONE IN JORDAN. (UPDATE: THE HOUSE OF SAUD AGREES.)
(IRAN USED OTHER MEANS IN LEBANON!)
IOW: I AM CONVINCED THAT THIS IS NOT A DEMOCRATIC REVOLUTION SWEEPING THE ARAB WORLD.
THIS IS A JIHADO-LEFTIST REVOLT. THAT'S RIGHT - AND YOU READ IT HERE FIRST.
YES: LEFTIST.
- ONE OF THE BASIC THEMES RUNNING THROUGH ALL THE UNREST IS THE IDEA THAT THE RULERS AND THEIR FRIENDS - ESPECIALLY THEIR AMERICAN ONES - HAVE MADE THE PEOPLE POOR, AND THAT THIS IS WHY THERE'S SO MUCH UNREST - AND WHY THEIR DIRECTING THEIR FRUSTRATION AGAINST THE RULING REGIMES.
- THE PEOPLE REBELLING BLAME THEIR SAD SITUATION ON THEIR REGIMES AND THE USA.
- AS IF HAD THE EGYPTIANS AND TUNISIANS AND JORDANIANS AND YEMENIS ONLY BEEN LEFT ALONE THEY'D HAVE BUILT A PROSPEROUS AND LIBERATED SOCIETY WITH "ECONOMIC JUSTICE".
- EGYPT HAS 35 MILLION STRONG YOUTHFUL CITIZENS WHO - DESPITE 30 BILLION IN AMERICAN AID - HAVE PRODUCED NO DECENT ECONOMIC GROWTH FOR THE LAST 35 YEARS WHILE DURING THE SAME PERIOD OF TIME THE ONCE DIRT-POOR AND WAR-RAVAGED SOUTH KOREA HAS BECOME A HUGE PROSPEROUS ECONOMY.
IF THEY DO SO HONESTLY THEN THEY MIGHT SEE THAT THEY HAVE TO RID THEMSELVES OF MORE THAN MUBARAK AND MUBARAK'S CRONY-CAPITALISM.
THEY NEED TO RID THEMSELVES OF ISLAMISM - AND EVEN ISLAM.
- ISLAM IS FUNDAMENTALLY INCOMPATIBLE WITH MODERNITY - AND THAT MEANS ISLAMIC NATIONS WILL PROBABLY NEVER EVOLVE TO MODERNITY AND DEMOCRACY AND PROSPERITY WITHOUT JETTISONING OR AT LEAST TOTALLY CONTAINING ISLAM.
- ATTATURK KNEW THIS.
- TURKEY EVOLVED TOWARD MODERNITY FOR ONLY AS LONG AS ATTATURK'S SECULAR STATE EXISTED. NOW, TURKEY IS SLIPPING BACK INTO ISLAMISM.
ALL WE HAVE TO DO IS LOOK AT AFGHANISTAN UNDER THE TALIBAN AND IRAN UNDER THE MULLAHS TO REALIZE THAT THE LIVES OF THOSE LIVING UNDER ISLAMIC RULE WILL BE AWFUL.
WHAT BOTHERS ME MOST IS THAT IF THESE MUSLIM NATIONS ALL BECOME ISLAMIST NATIONS, THEN THEY'LL POSE AN APOCALYPTIC THREAT TO THE REST OF US.
ONE THAT MIGHT ACTUALLY COME TO A HEAD MUCH SOONER THAN ANYONE NOW THINKS.
STAY TUNED...
LOOTERS DEFILE ANCIENT EGYPTIAN TREASURES
CAIRO (AP) — Would-be looters broke into Cairo's famed Egyptian Museum, ripping the heads off two mummies and damaging about 10 small artifacts before being caught and detained by soldiers, Egypt's antiquities chief said Saturday.
Zahi Hawass said the vandals did not manage to steal any of the museum's antiquities, and that the prized collection was now safe and under military guard.
With mass anti-government protests still roiling the country and unleashing chaos on the streets, fears that looters could target other ancient treasures at sites across the country prompted the military to dispatch armored personnel carriers and troops to the Pyramids of Giza, the temple city of Luxor and other key archaeological monuments.
Hawass said now that the Egyptian Museum's collection is secure from thieves, the greatest threat to the collection inside is posed by the torched ruling party headquarters building next door.
"What scares me is that if this building is destroyed, it will fall over the museum," Hawass said as he watched fire trucks spray water on the still smoldering NDP headquarters.
The museum, which is home to the gold mask of King Tutankhamun that draws millions of tourists a year, also houses thousands of artifacts spanning the full sweep of Egypt's rich pharaonic history.
Even though they are proud to call themselves Egyptians, the jihadist barbarians have no more respect for the antiquities of their own history, than the Taliban had for the Bamiyan Buddhas.
RAND PAUL LETS THE MASK SLIP
“We share Senator Paul's commitment to restraining the growth of federal spending, but we reject his misguided proposal to end US assistance to our ally, Israel,” said RJC Executive Director Matthew Brooks. "We are heartened to know that, with very few exceptions, congressional Republicans understand and appreciate the importance of this alliance to America's national security. And we are confident that few - if any - of Senator Paul's Republican colleagues will cosponsor a plan that reneges on an agreement with a critical ally."Hot Air's got a video available. If my calculations are correct, he may be blurring the differences here between Israel and its enemies in the Islamic world. It's so morally equative, and similarly so blatant, I'm devastated that anyone would associate themselves with this man who, like his own father, gives "libertarianism" a bad name.
Brooks also raised questions about Paul’s “grasp of the fundamentals of our alliance with Israel” based on his comments to Blitzer. “Any concern that US assistance might undermine Israel's security is groundless.”
When Blitzer asked about continuing aid to Israel, Paul replied, “When you send foreign aid, you actually [send] quite a bit to Israel's enemies, Islamic nations around Israel get quite a bit of foreign aid, too.”
He was apparently referring to aid to countries such as Egypt, which receives money as part of the peace treaty it signed with Israel.
“I don't think funding both sides of the arm race, particularly when we have to borrow the money from China to send it to someone else, we just can't do it anymore,” he said.
I think some of the people who supported Rand Paul in his campaign may owe an apology now. He certainly does.
EL BARADEI IN BED WITH THE MUSLIM BROTHERHOOD: THE ASTUTE BLOGGERS SCOOPS CAROLINE GLICK AND HOT AIR BY 2 YEARS!
Caroline GlickElbaradei’s support for the Iranian ayatollahs is matched by his support for the Muslim Brotherhood. This group, which forms the largest and best organized opposition movement to the Mubarak regime is the progenitor of Hamas and al Qaida. It seeks Egypt’s transformation into an Islamic regime that will stand at the forefront of the global jihad. In recent years, the Muslim Brotherhood has been increasingly drawn into the Iranian nexus along with Hamas. Muslim Brotherhood attorneys represented Hizbullah terrorists arrested in Egypt in 2009 for plotting to conduct spectacular attacks aimed at destroying the regime.
Elbaradei has been a strong champion of the Muslim Brotherhood. Just this week he gave an interview to Der Spiegel defending the jihadist movement. As he put it, “We should stop demonizing the Muslim Brotherhood. …[T]hey have not committed any acts of violence in five decades. They too want change. If we want democracy and freedom, we have to include them instead of marginalizing them.”

EL BARADEI PROMOTING REFORMS WHICH WOULD AIDE MUSLIM BROTHERHOOD IN EGYPT
REGARDLESS OF WHETHER HE'S A LEFTIST DUPE OR A CRYPTO-ISLAMIST, THE RESULT OF THE "REFORMS" EL BARADEI ADVOCATES WOULD BE THE SAME: STRENGTHENING THE MUSLIM BROTHERHOOD.
WHAT EGYPT REALLY NEEDS IS MORE RELIGIOUS FREEDOM FOR CHRISTIANS AND LESS ISLAMISM.
- EL BARADEI DID NOTHING TO REDUCE THE THREAT OF IRAN'S SHIA NUKES OR NORTH KOREA'S COMMIE NUKES.
- THE WORLD IS LESS SAFE NOW THEN WHEN HE TOOK OVER THE IAEA.
- THE ONLY MAJOR STRIDES MADE TO HALT ROGUE NUKES WERE MADE BY BLAIR AND BUSH - DETHRONING SADDAM AND DEFANGING GADDAFY AND UNCOVERING THE PAK' NUKE SMUGGLING OPERATION.
- EL BARADEI SHOULD NOT BE REWARDED WITH ANY DISTINGUISHED OR CRITICAL POST ANYWHERE.

SURPRISE! SURPRISE: MUSLIM BROTHERHOOD BACKS EL BARADEI - IRAN'S IAEA ENABLER - TO CHALLENGE MUBARAK
BBC:Muslim Brotherhood says it will back ElBaradei campaign
Egypt's biggest opposition group has said it will back the former UN atomic watchdog chief Mohamed ElBaradei's political change campaign, reports say.
The Muslim Brotherhood failed to win any seats in elections to the upper legislative house on Wednesday.
It alleged the vote for the Shura Council had been rigged.
Mr ElBaradei has launched a campaign for political change in Egypt, but has not officially declared he will contest elections next year.
The Muslim Brotherhood said it would help Mr ElBaradei collect signatures in his efforts to gather a million names to demand changes to the constitution and emergency laws, news agency Reuters said.
IT TOOK VIOLENCE - AND APPEASEMENT FROM LIBERAL JIMMY CARTER - FOR THE JIHAD TO TAKEOVER THE SHAH'S IRAN IN 1979.
IN TURKEY, THE AKP DID IT BY STEALTH AT ELECTIONS AND IN JUDICIAL AND MILITARY PURGES OVER 8 YEARS.
IT LOOKS LIKE THE MUSLIM BROTHERHOOD WILL TRY THE AKP ROUTE... WITH THE HELP OF EL BARADEI, THE FELLA WHO RAN THE IAEA AND LET NORTH KOREA AND IRAN AND LIBYA AND SYRIA ( THE OLD AXIS OF EVIL! THE NEW ONE INCLUDES TURKEY!) GET AWAY WITH "MURDER".
THE MUSLIM BROTHERHOOD KNOWS THIS MAN WELL.
AND ANYONE WHO CONTINUES TO THINK EL BARADEI IS PRO-WEST OUGHT TO HAVE HIS HEAD EXAMINED.

EL BARADEI AGITATING AGAINST MUBARAK GOVERNMENT
EL BARADEI - WHO AS HEAD OF THE UN'S IAEA SPENT YEARS ENABLING IRAN'S NUKE PROGRAM AND ATTACKING THE USA - MIGHT AS WELL ANNOUNCE HE'S PART OF THE GLOBAL JIHAD: NOW HE'S ACTIVELY PROTESTING MUBARAK, OUR 2ND BEST ALLY IN THE MIDDLE EAST.
(THE MUSLIM BROTHERHOOD HAS ALREADY ENDORSED HIM TO RUN AGAINST MUBARAK - AND HE ENDORSED THEM.)
SPREAD THE WORD.
BUSH ERRORS HELPED BRING ISLAMIST DICTATORSHIPS TO GAZA AND LEBANON. IS EGYPT NEXT?
The same thing is happening in Lebanon. Hezbollah is not a political party, it is an armed insurrectionist gang of terrorists. To allow Hezbollah and Syria to seize control of the Lebanese government is a tragedy.
The same thing is happening in Egypt. Under the pretense of seeking more democracy, armed Islamist terrorists are moving towards a coup d'etat that will put them in control of the most populous Arab country.
Remember: it was the Egyptian Muslim Brotherhood that spawned Zawahiri and the other masterminds of Al Qaeda.
DID AGW HYSTERIA CONTRIBUTE TO RIOTS IN TUNIS & CAIRO?
The fact that rising food prices are contributing to unrest in the Middle East has been noted recently. Two weeks ago, the Washington Post reported:1. With help from Al Gore, Hollywood, and the entire Leftist panoply, global warming fears reach hysterical levels.
2. As part of their apocalyptic battle against rising seas and dying polar bears, warmists declare ethanol is one of the answers (never mind that it turns out that it takes 1.5 gallons of fossil fuel to produce a gallon of ethanol).
3. Did I mention that ethanol comes from corn? In the old days, people used to eat corn. Now they drive it.
4. To satisfy the panic-stricken need for drivable corn, food crops are diverted into fuel production.
5. The cost of staples rises substantially around the world.
5. In 2008, food riots break out, including riots in Egypt. (Here are three links supporting the ethanol/riot connection, one from a free market site, one from a technology site, and one from an organic food site.)
6. Although food riots haven’t been in the headlines lately, what do you bet that, with ethanol production still causing producers to divert food crops into the energy market, marginal economic societies such as Egypt continue to feel the effects of food shortages?
7. Voila — riot conditions. For history aficionados, remember that, in the 1790s, the French had suffered aristocratic depredations for centuries; it was the food shortages that triggered revolt (a la “Let them eat cake,” not that Marie Antoinette actually said that). The same pattern showed up in Russia, with rising discontent reaching a fever pitch with WWI shortages.
The state of emergency in Tunisia has economists worried that we may be seeing the beginnings of a second wave of global food riots.Battered by bad weather and increasing demand from the developing world, the global food supply system is buckling under the strain. This month, the U.N. Food and Agricultural Organization (FAO) reported that its food price index jumped 32 percent in the second half of 2010 -- surpassing the previous record, set in the early summer of 2008, when deadly clashes over food broke out around the world, from Haiti to Somalia.
An FAO report noted that "recent bouts of extreme price volatility in global agricultural markets portend rising and more frequent threats to world food security."
In Jordan, too, rising food prices are fueling the protests. According to the Los Angeles Times:
In an unprecedented development in Jordan, protests similar to those that have rocked Tunisia and Algeria in recent weeks erupted in the Arab kingdom Friday.
Thousands of people took to the streets of the capital, Amman, and several other cities to protest rising food prices and unemployment, media reports say.
Aside from complaints, they also pointed rare and stinging criticism toward the Jordanian government, headed by Prime Minister Samir Rifai.
But are rising food prices linked to AGW and the ethanol for fuel movement? There's a lot of evidence that points to this connection. Money Morning noted:
"With more research and incentives, we can break our dependence on oil with biofuels, and become the first country to have a million electric vehicles on the road by 2015," the president said in his speech to members of Congress. "[I]nstead of subsidizing yesterday's energy, let's invest in tomorrow's."
This commitment to clean energy investment increases the importance of biofuels like ethanol, made from corn and other agricultural products. About 40% of U.S. corn is used to make ethanol, and increased ethanol production leads to higher corn and food prices. There is a definite correlation between an increase in biofuels production, especially bioethanol, and corn prices. U.S. corn prices surged 52% last year, and helped push the Food and Agriculture Organization's Food Price Index to an all-time high in 2010. The index tracks the prices of 55 food commodities and climbed for the sixth consecutive month to hit 214.7 points in December, its highest reading since the measure was first calculated in 1990.
The last time food prices spiked was June 2008 when the Food Price Index hit 213.5. Corn reached its highest price in July 2008, climbing over $7 a bushel and squeezing the profit margins of ethanol producers. Most of the plants were built in 2006 when the commodity pulled in about $2 a bushel, making the industry so profitable that plants could be paid off in as little time as six months. But after corn's price surge, ethanol plants were shut down and later that year corn fell to around $3 a bushel.
Then U.S. farmers in 2009 produced the biggest bumper crop of corn in the nation's history - in excess of 13.11 billion bushels. While this usually pushes prices down, corn demand skyrocketed partly due to U.S. government subsidies for ethanol, which reached as high as $7.7 billion in 2009. In December 2010 the U.S. government voted to extend ethanol subsidies for another year, despite the protests of environmentalists and livestock producers who argue the tax credits drive up livestock feed prices and increase fertilizer and pesticide runoff in farmlands.
And as the Bangor Daily News noted, it's all based on nonsense:
Forty percent of American corn goes into ethanol as a gasoline additive. Yet this Hamburger Helper-style mix reduces fuel mileage, has little effect on petroleum imports, causes little or no reduction in air pollution or greenhouse gases, raises food prices, and will cost taxpayers $30 billion in the next five years in ethanol subsidies,
Now the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency has expanded this misuse of a vital farm product by increasing the ethanol proportion to 15 percent for cars and trucks with model years of 2001 and later. The EPA needed to increase the ethanol mix because demand was falling short of the man-dated ethanol production level that will rise to 36 billion gallons year by 2022.
It does appear that what prompted the insurrections in Tunisia and Egypt, and the growing insurrectionist movements in Yemen and Jordan, at this time, was a rise in basic food commodity prices caused in large part by the global warming hysterics.

EGYPT MIGHT BECOME ANOTHER IRAN: THE ASTUTE BLOGGERS SCOOPS JPOST AND SEVERAL ISRAELI GENERALS BY 3 DAYS
‘We’re living on a volcano,’ experts warnTAB EARLIER THIS WEEK:
As with Iran in ’79, Islamists could hijack pro-democracy movements; ex-IDF research chief: “We're on thick ice, but even that melts eventually."
Israeli security experts are casting an uneasy eye at the civil unrest spreading through the region.
On Thursday, Yemen joined the list of Arab states experiencing unprecedented demonstrations calling for authoritarian leaders to step down, and Egypt braced for more civil unrest.
While no analysts here predict any immediate ramifications for Israel’s national security, some said mass protest movements that begin as pro-democracy uprisings could easily be hijacked by Islamists.
“We need to understand that we are living on a volcano,” said Maj.- Gen. (res.) Ya’acov Amidror, former head of the IDF’s Research and Assessment Directorate.
“Conditions can change from today until tomorrow. We must ask ourselves, what is the worst case scenario,” he said. “We are on thick ice, but even that melts eventually."
“Advice we have heard from certain countries in Western Europe [suggesting that the uprisings could lead to a wave of democratic revolutions] should not be followed,” he said. “There’s no immediate fear of any security escalation. The main question is: In the long term, will we be ready for all scenarios?” Maj.-Gen. (res.) Giora Eiland, a former national security adviser, and a senior research fellow at Tel Aviv University’s Institute for National Security Studies (INSS), said, “There’s a reasonable chance that if a revolution takes place in Egypt, the Muslim Brotherhood would rise to power. That would be bad not just for Israel but for all democracies.”
The true struggle in Egypt was not between “Mubarak and pro-democracy elements, but between Mubarak and the Muslim Brotherhood,” Eiland said.
WHO KNOWS WHAT'S HAPPENING NOW...REGULAR READERS KNOW WE REGULARLY BEAT THE EXPERTS WITH SHARP ANALYSIS AND BLUNT COMMENTARY . EVEN ISRAELI GENERALS. SPREAD THE WORD.
BUT I HAVE A PREDICTION: THE MUBARAK'S DO EVENTUALLY FLEE.
AND EL BARADEI TAKES OVER IN A COALITION WITH MUSLIM BROTHERHOOD (AS HARIRI DID WITH HIZBALLAH).
EL BARADEI IS ALREADY CLOSE TO THEM.
THEN EL BARADEI IS OUSTED - LIKE IRAN'S BANI SADR OR BAZARGAN,
AND EGYPT GOES THE WAY OF IRAN - JUST AS LEBANON SEEMS TO BE GOING.
IMPOSING SO-CALLED "ECONOMIC JUSTICE" IS BASICALLY TYRANNICAL & ANTI-LIBERTARIAN: THE ASTUTE BLOGGERS SCOOPS BELMONT CLUB BY 6 YEARS
ME 6 YEARS AGO:Liberation under the Piven doctrine effectively becomes a choice by the serfs of which aristocracy they believe will do best by them, since worth is determined by the political process anyway. Which side do we back by our “mass actions”? Liberation becomes the process of putting the “right” people in charge of the masses.
It is not — it is never — putting the masses in charge of themselves.
Why not put the masses in charge of their own lives? Because that would require facilitating innumerable transactions and contracts between individuals. That would require self-interest and economic calculation to propel the system. That would mean a market, whose job it would be for the state to keep fair, and that were too little a role for such as Piven thinks should rule the roost.
THE TERM "DICTATORSHIP OF THE PROLETARIAT" WAS THEIRS - ONE THEY WERE PROUD OF. AND IT WAS ACCURATE.The Democratic Revolution – started in the USA in 1776 – is still the most revolutionary revolution of all time.
What Leftists think of as revolutionary – namely socialism – (in all its forms: Marxism; Fascism; Nazism; Maoism; Stalinism; Castroism; Mugabe-ism; Ho-Chi-Minhism; Pol-Potism; Trotskyitism) – is nothing more than a tyranny by the state over the individual; (many even called it, “the DICTATORSHIP of the proletariat” – not even feigning that democracy was even an intention; in fact, communism merely substituted one aristocracy – one of inherited birthrights – for another: that of orthodox adherence to a false ideology).
All people and movements which stand in the way of the advance of humanity from tyranny to democracy, and from serfdom to liberty (and the prosperity that ONLY liberty produces) – are reactionary.
ALL: Leftists and jihadists.
They’re birds of a feather.
They wanted to replace the tyrannical ARISTOCRACY with a tyrannical mob.
As Glenn says, meet the new boss, just like the old boss: it's still tyranny just by different folks.
Socialism was not and can never be about LIBERATION because it is fundamentally anti-libertarian: it doesn't end feudalism; it merely up-ends of it.
THIS IS WHY HAYEK SO WISELY CALLED SOCIALISM "THE ROAD TO SERFDOM": SERFS WERE DIRT POOR AND BECAUSE THEY WERE TYRANNIZED BY A STRONG CENTRAL STATE GOVERMENT, HAD NO RIGHTS AND NO LIBERTY.25 Years Ago Today
President Ronald Reagan's eloquent address to our nation:
