The Somalian pirates have finally released the Sinar Kudus boat and all of its Indonesian boat crew after the boat owner company decided to pay US$ 4.5 million (Rp 38.5 billion) to the pirates, a member of the Somalian pirate groups identified as Geney said.

“We have received the money this morning and right now are preparing to go out from the boat,” Geney said as quoted by tempointeraktif.com on Sunday.

He said that the ransom was dropped from the sky by an aircraft this morning.

WHY DID THEY PAY THE RANSOM!?!?! THIS WILL ONLY ENCOURAGE THE PIRATES TO DO MORE KIDNAPPING.

Most of the ransom had to be raised privately, as Congress was unable or unwilling to pay the full asking price.

With the clock ticking down to the anticipated unilateral declaration of Palestinian statehood, a senior Likud minister joined calls over the weekend to annex the West Bank in response to any unilateral Palestinian steps.

On Saturday night Channel 2 television released an audio recording of a Thursday meeting of the Likud's young adult forum, during which Welfare and Communications Minister Moshe Kahlon said that he supported such a move.

The German police arrested three men suspected of being members of Al Qaeda on Friday, saying they represented “a concrete and imminent danger” to the nation and had been planning an attack using explosives.

The German authorities presented the bare outlines of a terrorism plot that they said involved at least one person trained at a militant camp in Afghanistan or Pakistan and a cache of material for producing explosives. The men had been under surveillance for seven months, but the authorities said they decided to move fast when the three began preparations for testing an explosive device.

Bank staff deals with Chinese currency China's currency has been climbing against the US dollar.

China's currency, the yuan, strengthened past a key level against the US dollar on Friday, as part of wider efforts to contain inflation on the mainland.

The yuan broke past 6.50 against the dollar, a level not seen since 1993.

Traders and currency strategists believe the move is a sign that China's central bank is prepared to allow the currency to appreciate further.

A stronger currency means imported products become cheaper in China.

The discovery of natural gas near Haifa is a recent - and fortunate - development, and one that needs to be worked on as soon as possible in order to replace any gas transfers coming from other Arabic countries that are on their way to deterioration. We simply can't rely on countries - certainly not where Islam reins supreme - in times like this for fuel, and that's why it's better to develop our own resources instead.

NYTimes: U.S. Economic Growth Slows to 1.8% Rate in Quarter

The American economy slowed to a crawl in the first quarter, but economists are hopeful that the setback will be temporary.

Total output grew at an annual pace of 1.8 percent from January through March, the Commerce Department said Thursday, after having expanded at an annual rate of 3.1 percent in the fourth quarter of 2010.

When the year first began, economists had been expecting a much more robust growth rate of about 4 percent, only to be barraged by bad report after bad report as the days wore on. Higher commodity prices and winter blizzards that shuttered businesses and delayed construction were among the main causes of the slowdown. For example, nonresidential structures — that is, construction of offices and other buildings — fell by 21.7 percent compared with an increase of 7.6 percent at the end of 2010.

A large decrease in federal defense spending and a widening of the trade gap were other drags on output that forecasters expect to reverse themselves later in the year.

If merged Palestinian government wishes to be a true player on international stage, US official says, they must act on the side of peace.

The United States responded on Wednesday to an announced reconciliation between Fatah and Hamas, releasing a short and tepid statement that withheld judgment and bordered on skepticism.

"The United States supports Palestinian reconciliation on terms which promote the cause of peace. Hamas, however, is a terrorist organization which targets civilians," White House spokesman Tommy Vietor said in a statement.

"To play a constructive role in achieving peace, any Palestinian government must accept the Quartet principles and renounce violence, abide by past agreements, and recognize Israel's right to exist," he said.

Also on Wednesday, Prime Minister Binyamin Netanyahu reacted to the news, saying Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas had two choices: peace with Israel or peace with Hamas. "Hamas aspires to destroy Israel and fires rockets at our cities," he said in a televised statement. "There is no possibility for peace with both."

This deal, if it is real, will be interpreted in Israel as a choice by Palestinian president Mahmoud Abbas to make peace with Hamas rather than with Israel.

It is hard to see how Israel could negotiate with a Palestinian government half or more of which represents a terrorist group dedicated to attacking the Jewish State.

The leaders of France and Italy have said Europe's Schengen open-border treaty should be revised.

The move by President Nicolas Sarkozy and PM Silvio Berlusconi comes after they met to discuss the recent rise in North African migration to Europe.

Italy has angered France by granting visas to thousands of migrants, allowing them to travel across Europe's border-free Schengen zone.

About 25,000 migrants have arrived in southern Italy so far during 2011.

Many have fled unrest in North Africa, and among them are thousands of Tunisians hoping to join relatives in France.

Both Mr Berlusconi and Mr Sarkozy are facing domestic pressure from right-wing parties to curb large-scale immigration.

The Schengen treaty allows legal residents of most EU countries, plus Switzerland, Norway and Iceland to travel across the zone with only minimal border checks.

'Exceptional difficulties' The two leaders have jointly written to senior EU officials asking that the treaty be investigated.

"The situation concerning migration in the Mediterranean could rapidly transform into a crisis that would undermine the trust that our compatriots have in the [principle] of freedom of travel within Schengen," the letter says, according to excerpts published by German news agency DPA.

It is necessary to "examine the possibility to temporarily re-establish controls within [Schengen] borders in the case of exceptional difficulties," the letter continues.

Speaking at a news conference in Rome after their meeting, Mr Berlusconi said neither Italy nor France wanted the treaty to end.
"But in exceptional circumstances, we both believe that there should be variations to the Schengen treaty, and we've decided to work on that together," he said.

In addition, he said there should be a "principle of solidarity" among European countries, and that southern states along the Mediterranean should not be left on their own to deal with the problems posed by mass immigration.

PEW POLLING IN EGYPT FINDS MORE THAN HALF WANT TO CEASE PEACE TREATY WITH ISRAEL

But then, was there ever any true peace to begin with? In this AP article featured on The Blaze:

CAIRO (AP) — More than half of all Egyptians would like to see the 1979 peace treaty with Israel annulled, according to results of a poll conducted by the U.S.-based Pew Research Center released Monday.

The poll highlights the deep unpopularity of the three-decade-old treaty, which is central to U.S. policy in the region and was scrupulously adhered to by former President Hosni Mubarak, who was ousted Feb. 11.

The poll also revealed that most Egyptians are optimistic about where the country is headed following the 18-day popular uprising, and they look forward to greater democracy in their country.

The fall of Egypt’s autocratic leader and the rise of a more democratic system, however, could threaten relations with neighbor Israel.

There's a peculiar contradiction here: a democratic system would harm relations? I thought it was the other way around. Especially if the Muslim Brotherhood gets in, and exploits democracy to pave the way to autocracy.

According to the poll results, only 36 percent of Egyptians are in favor of maintaining the treaty, compared with 54 percent who would like to see it scrapped.

Despite the decades of peace and limited trade between the two countries, most Egyptians view the Israelis poorly, largely because of perceptions that they mistreat the Palestinians.

British Government Knew of Terrorist Trainers in UK, Did nothing!!

The (UK)Government has paid millions of pounds in compensation and benefits to people regarded as highly dangerous by the US authorities.

Qatada, who was paid compensation under human rights laws for being “unfairly detained”, is described as “the most successful recruiter in Europe” and a “focal point for extremist fundraising [and] recruitment”. Hamza is accused of encouraging “his followers to murder non-Muslims”.

Four mosques in London and an Islamic centre are highlighted as places where young Muslim men were radicalised and turned into potential terrorists. Finsbury Park mosque “served to facilitate and training of recruits,” note the files, adding that it was “a haven for Islamic extremists from Morocco and Algeria.”

The Daily Telegraph, along with other international newspapers, is publishing details of more than 700 files on the Guantánamo Bay detainees obtained by the WikiLeaks website.

Earlier, this newspaper disclosed that dozens of terrorists held at the prison had admitted plotting a wide array of attacks against targets in Britain and America.

The files, obtained by the WikiLeaks website and passed to The Daily Telegraph, disclose that a phone number of someone at the BBC was found in the phone books and phones of a number of extremists seized by US forces.

A detainee assessment, dated 21 April 2007, states: "The London, United Kingdom (UK), phone number 0044 207 XXX XXXX was discovered in numerous seized phone books and phones associated with extremist-linked individuals.

“The number is associated with the British Broadcasting Corporation (BBC).” Analysis by The Daily Telegraph suggests the number is one for Bush House, home of the BBC World Service.

The assessment continues that US forces uncovered many “extremist links” to this number, suggesting that extremists could have made contact with BBC employees who were sympathetic to extremists or had information on “ACM [anti-Coalition Militia] operations”.

Wash. Post calls Obama's dealing with Syria shameful

In a rare show of responsibility, The Washington Post (via The Weekly Standard) says that Obama's approach to the Syrian revolt has been simply shameful:

Massacres on this scale usually prompt a strong response from Western democracies, as they should. Ambassadors are withdrawn; resolutions are introduced at the U.N. Security Council; international investigations are mounted and sanctions applied. In Syria’s case, none of this has happened. The Obama administration has denounced the violence—a presidential statement called Friday’s acts of repression “outrageous”—but otherwise remained passive.... The administration has sat on its hands despite the fact that the Assad regime is one of the most implacable U.S. adversaries in the Middle East. It is Iran’s closest ally; it supplies Iranian weapons to Hezbollah in Lebanon and Hamas in the Gaza Strip for use against Israel. Since 2003 it has helped thousands of jihadists from across the Arab world travel to Iraq to attack American soldiers. It sought to build a secret nuclear reactor with the help of North Korea and destabilized the pro-Western government of neighboring Lebanon by sponsoring a series of assassinations.

[...] As a practical matter, these considerations are misguided. Even if his massacres allow him to survive in power, Mr. Assad will hardly be a credible partner for Israel. And no matter what happens, Syria will not return to the police-state stability it has known during the past several decades.

As a moral matter, the stance of the United States is shameful. To stand by passively while hundreds of people seeking freedom are gunned down by their government makes a mockery of the U.S. commitment to human rights. There was a shooting and a murder at Joseph's Tomb, with one dead and 5 others injured:

Palestinian Authority police Sunday morning shot and killed one Israeli and wounded five others after they prayed at Joseph's Tomb (Kever Yosef) around 6 a.m. Sunday (11 p.m. Saturday night EDT).

One of the wounded is in serious condition, and Army helicopters evacuated the injured to a hospital for emergency care. A group of 15 worshippers from the Breslov Chassidic sect had driven to the site and were returning when they were gunned down by Pal police in a jeep.

The PA security forces continued to fire at the cars as they fled.

The IDF hurriedly issued a statement that the trip to Kever Yosef was not coordinated with Israeli security forces.

Kever Yosef is a Jewish holy site that was supposed to be under Israeli control and open to worshippers as stated in previous agreements. However, the government has surrendered the area to Palestinian Authority control, and local Arabs have desecrated it several times.

The Breslov group was known to Palestinian Authority authorities as people who frequently prayed at Kever Yosef without any other intentions, according to Gershon Mesika, chairman of the Shomron (Samaria) Regional Council. He called the shooting attack a "massacre at close range."

National Union Knesset Member Dr. Michael Ben-Ari indirectly blamed the American government for having “trained and armed the enemy army that is called the ‘Palestinian Authority police’ and is directly responsible for the murder at Kever Yosef.”

The victim was the nephew of Limor Livnat:

The victim of the attack by PA police on Jews at the Tomb of Joseph Sunday morning is Yosef Ben-Livnat, the nephew of government minister Limor Livnat. He was 24 years old, and a father of four. Ben-Livnat was a resident of Jerusalem.

Keep him and his family in your prayers.

Ben-Ari and anyone else angry that the American government trained these monsters have every right to feel that way.
