The American Thinker (via The Jewish Press) wrote about NJ governor Chris Christie's political scandal, and a serious subject that's been overlooked:

Muslims & Political Influence in New Jersey

New Jersey has the second-largest Muslim population of any state, after Michigan. Paterson, the county seat of Passaic County, is home to a controversial Hamas-linked mosque, the Islamic Center of Passaic County (ICPC), and contains the largest population of Palestinian Muslims in the United States. The Muslim community in South Paterson is referred to as "Little Ramallah."

This past year, Paterson's mayor, Jeff Jones, was the first U.S. city official to host a "Palestinian-American Day," with a Palestinian flag hoisted over City Hall on Israeli Independence Day. Astonishingly, the event organizer, Khader Abuassab, a convicted criminal who pled guilty to fraud and swindling, is on record telling local Muslims not to cooperate with law enforcement. Further, Abuassab served on the Paterson Board of Education, ran for City Council, and now serves on Governor Christie's Muslim Outreach Committee.

Christie & Mohammed Qatanani

But Christie's record of political support for Muslims dates back to his days as U.S. attorney. It was then, in 2006, when he came to the aid of a radical Muslim imam, Mohammed Qatanani, who was on the verge of being deported from the United States for failure to disclose terrorist affiliations.

The little-known details are that Qatanani arrived in the United States in 1996 to take over the ICPC, one of the largest mosques in the state. Housed in a former synagogue, the ICPC was founded in 1989 by Imam Mohammed El-Mezain, a convicted Hamas operative and fundraiser who publicly boasted of raising close to $2 million for the organization. In 1996, Qatanani arrived to succeed El-Mezain.

Given the mosque's affiliations, it's not surprising that Qatanani also has a background littered with terrorist associations. He was arrested and convicted in Israel in 1993 as a self-admitted member of Hamas. As a Muslim Brotherhood operative, he had provided financial support for terrorist activities and continued to send large cash transfers to the West Bank once he arrived.

These activities raised suspicions by the Department of Homeland Security (DHS), which in 2006 began attempts to deport Qatanani for failure to disclose his 1993 arrest in Israel for involvement with a terrorist group. Despite the charges for his terrorist activities and very real security concerns about the Hamas-affiliated imam, a spokesman for Qatanani, Aref Assaf, called the deportation effort "vindictive," implying that the investigation was ill-conceived and baseless.

Then, then-U.S. Attorney Chris Christie came to the aid of the imam. In response to a 2008 DHS court filing, Christie defended the imam as a "man of great goodwill" and sent his assistant U.S. attorney, Charles McKenna, to court to serve as a character witness. As a result of Christie's efforts, Qatanani was granted legal permanent residency.

This is very serious, and anyone who cares about the USA's safety shouldn't ignore the damage Christie's done to the state he now overlords.

IMMIGRATION TO ISRAEL FROM FRANCE RISES

The Washington Post talks about the rising emigration of French Jews:

NETANYA, Israel — This sunny city on the Mediterranean has become known among Israelis as the French Riviera, both as a compliment and a dig.

As immigration to Israel has dipped over the past 10 years, France is the only country seeing a growing number of its Jewish citizens move there. And Netanya is the French arrivals’ No. 1 destination.

The French in Netanya aren’t wearing berets and striped shirts, but the signs of their arrival are everywhere. The shop windows of real estate offices offer “superbe maison, vue sur mer, 3 salles de bain.” There are lawn bowling clubs, and the falafel joint’s menu lists “hamburger avec frites.” A French-style bakery called Pain au Chocolat is filled with mid-morning coffee dawdlers and children in strollers munching macaroons.

The reasons the French newcomers give for moving here: They love Israel, or at least the idea of Israel; the economy in France is weak, especially for young people; and perhaps most important, they say they feel a rise in anti-Semitism in France, from the subtle forms — promotions passed over, party invitations that never arrive — to the most overt.

“We come from Toulouse, so you can understand why we came here,” said Laurent Mardoukh, a middle-aged building contractor who arrived in Netanya with his wife and three boys last year.

Mardoukh’s eldest son was attending the Ozar Hatorah school in Toulouse on March 19, 2012, when a French national of Algerian heritage named Mohammed Merah shot to death a rabbi and three students.

“Now I prefer to live in peace and quiet in Israel, surrounded by all the craziness of the region, than in France, which is not as quiet as it seems,” Mardoukh said.

Immigration to Israel is called making “aliyah,” which in Hebrew means “the act of going up” or “ascending.” And it is slowing, despite intensive, expensive outreach — and outright wooing — by the government and private organizations. About 19,200 Jews immigrated to Israel last year, down a bit from the 22,139 who came a decade ago.

Against that backdrop, France is the exception. There were 3,270 French arrivals last year, an increase of 63 percent from 2012, according to Israel’s Ministry of Immigrant Absorption. Percentage-wise, that is a far greater number than the 3,070 Jews who emigrated from the United States, which has many more Jews than France. The French consul here has said that as many as 150,000 French nationals may now be living in Israel.

To be honest, I'm feeling mad at the French authorities/government for letting these violent tragedies happen, because it's not like Jews should have to move here because of danger. But this is what happens when they betray their most productive citizens along with the others, and now, they've come here.

WHAT DOES PAKISTANI SOCIETY THINK OF THE MUSLIM MS. MARVEL?

The UPI's told that in Pakistan, there's mixed reactions to Marvel's forced introduction of a Muslim Ms. Marvel. As expected, there's positive reactions, but the negative ones are probably the more interesting:

Not everyone is thrilled. Some women voiced strong concerns, even expressing suspicion of a conspiracy to discredit Pakistani society.

"It is unrealistic for a girl to be a superhero," housewife Sanam Iqbal told UPI Next. "The dress Kamala Khan will be wearing doesn't represent our Muslim culture either.

"I can't expect that Kamala Khan is going to build our country's image. I am sure there will be a conspiracy behind this idea, either to disrespect our family values or to damage our religion."

Hina Gulraiz, a Lahore dentist with in-laws in the United States, said Kamala Khan would create problems in Muslim families trying to follow their normal ways.

"I visit the U.S. often and I am sure that if Kamala Khan's character hurts our values in any case it will not be accepted. We don't want our girls so open to the world, because it is against our religion and values," Gulraiz told UPI Next.

This isn't so surprising that while some Muslims might condone the idea as a propaganda vehicle for normalizing Islam, much like gay and lesbian belief systems (which Islam is against far more than Judeo-Christianity is), others won't approve because the approach is just not Islamic enough for their narrow tastes. Nor is it surprising that they'd consider it anathema to their belief that a woman's place is beneath that of men.

Amjad Saleem, owner of Saanjh Publications, which publishes novels, poetry and Muslim philosophy books, predicted that readers will rush to buy comic books depicting Kamala Khan.

Not necessarily. Those Muslims - in Pakistan and elsewhere - who oppose the idea of a girl even remotely taking up a lifestyle that's independent of her family, are unlikely to go for it or approve of their daughters reading it. I predict Saudi Arabia is the Muslim enclave where the book is least likely to turn up. You can't please everyone, and this book is bound to be an example of one that won't. In fact, now that I recall, there are Muslims out there who detest stories with magic and other sci-fi elements, and there could be those out there who won't go for it because of their dislike of fantasy themes. There's something Marvel's staff didn't ponder.

NYTIMES OP-ED: POPE SHOULD ALLOW ABORTION

IN THE NYTIMES:

.... These limitations, I suggest, correspond to the “very difficult situations” (such as “rape” and “extreme poverty”) in which the pope, in “Evangelii Gaudium,” admitted the church has “done little to adequately accompany women.”  

Allowing for exceptions to the moral condemnation of abortion in some of these painful situations would not contradict the pope’s overall commitment to the “value of the human person.” Rather, it would admit what reason shows: There are morally difficult issues about abortion that should be decided by conscience, not legislation. 

The result would be a church acting according to the pope’s own stated standard: preaching not “certain doctrinal or moral points based on specific ideological options” but rather the gospel of love.

Russia Bans Islamic Fundamentalist Literature

Now, they are banning 16 specific books which "encourage hatred".

The Russian government has placed a ban on 16 books written by the Islamic fundamentalist writer, Said Nursi, after they were evaluated and concluded that they “encouraged hatred and restricted the freedom of people who do not believe in Islam.” 

It is reported that his books were in a suspect’s home in Kaliningrad, and Russian authorities seized the books and apprehended the owner of them.

TWO MORE ATTEMPTED JIHADISTS ARRESTED EN ROUTE TO SYRIA

A pair of 17-year-olds in Britain were arrested at Heathrow airport:

Two teenage schoolgirls were arrested over suspected terrorism offences after police believed they were trying to fly from Britain to Syria to fight in the civil war, it was revealed today.

The 17-year-olds from London were grabbed at Heathrow airport this month amid concerns they had been radicalised and were going to become jihadists.

A senior Scotland Yard officer has also revealed 14 young Britons have been held on charges linked to the Syrian conflict in January, compared to 24 for the whole of last year.

I've got a hunch they won't be sent to receive psychological counsel, despite their needing it, nor will anything be done to dissuade them from worshiping Islam. So for as long as this war in Syria rages on, they can only expect more crackpots trying to throw their lives away for the wrong reasons.

FRENCH NATIONAL FRONT FOCUSES ON ISLAMOFASCISM

The Irish Times reported about Marine Le Pen's latest political strategies, which includes the fight against Islamofascism, locally and even abroad. Through this, we discover, for instance:

The jihadists who leave France to fight the regime of Bashar al-Assad in Syria symbolise an Islamist “fifth column” within France, perhaps the most potent of fears associated with immigration. Some of the jihadists, such as Jean-Daniel and Nicolas Bons, brothers from Toulouse who died fighting in Syria last year, are Christians who converted to Islam. Their fate gives substance to French paranoia about contagion by radical Islam.

Their father, Gérard Bon, has founded an association to fight the recruitment of young Frenchmen for jihad. The government fears that jihadists will return from Syria to carry out attacks in France. So returning veterans are threatened with 15 years in prison for having participated in “terrorism” – ironic, since president François Hollande has called for Assad’s downfall. Bons recounts how his sons told him that the prospect of years in prison dissuaded them from coming home.

These particular two were converts, which is definitely disturbing. But what's this about "paranoia"? I believe this is where the paper's descending into offensive dismissals of legitimate fears.

Asked about French jihadists earlier this month, Marine Le Pen, the leader of the anti-immigrant National Front (FN) replied smugly: “It’s hard to fight the quenelle and jihadists at the same time.” (The quenelle is an allegedly anti-Semitic gesture invented by the humorist Dieudonné, whose show Valls succeeded in banning.)

This part, if accurate, bugs me, because isn't educational curriculum a vital factor in dissuading people to imitate that awful pseudo-comedian's behavior? At the same time, I wonder if they're putting words in her mouth like "smug"? What a shame a paper in a country that's got its own problem with Islam encroaching is stooping to such poor etiquette.

Government surveillance of Muslim extremists in France is hopelessly inadequate, Le Pen said, citing the case of Mohamed Merah, the 23-year-old son of Algerian immigrants who killed seven people, including three Jewish children, in early 2012.

But here's where Le Pen is much more spot on with her criticism. Thanks to poor law enforcement - surely a very common crisis in Europe - Merah was able to commit sadistic crimes before being sent to hell where he belongs.

Two anti-racist groups have filed lawsuits against Marine Le Pen for her December 2010 comparison of Muslims praying in French streets to the German army’s occupation of France during the second World War. The EU parliament has lifted her immunity as an MEP, and she may stand trial for incitement to racial hatred.

If they do that, they're only bound to boost support for her party, and they probably know it.

Immigration was the backdrop to feverish political disputes in recent months: the “Leonarda affair”, when the expulsion of a 15-year-old Roma schoolgirl with her family backfired on the Hollande administration; the government’s climbdown after 250 experts delivered a report on integration to the prime minister which said schoolgirls should be allowed to wear headscarves and Arabic could be taught in French schools. “We’re not in Britain or Canada, where women can go around in hijab and kids can demand halal meals in schools,” says Prof Perrineau. “France just doesn’t work that way.”

I don't know about Canada, but he's right about Britain. Now, I hope the National Front, having since replaced the awful Jean-Marie Le Pen with daughter Marine, will lead a straightforward campaign. It won't be without opposition from the worst sources, as I'm sure they know too, but they're going to have to be brave if they want to save France and find the light of civilization at the end of the tunnel.

EU WANTS TO ISOLATE ISRAEL

And anyone who thinks the PLO will suffer any consequence on their part is gravely mistaken. The EU's ambassador made some pathetic warnings:

Both sides in the Israeli-Palestinian peace talks risk paying a high price in losing European Union trade and aid if negotiations collapse, the EU ambassador to Israel said on Wednesday.

Oh no, it's only one side that'll pay.

For long seen as a "payer, not a player" in the region, the European Union has started making clear that its role as Israel's biggest trade partner and the Palestinians' largest donor should not be taken for granted.

"We have made it clear to the parties that there will be a price to pay if these negotiations falter," ambassador Lars Faaborg-Andersen told reporters.

If they want to shun Israel, fine, they don't have to have anything to do with us.

The EU has grown especially frustrated by a number of Israeli announcements since the talks were renewed in July of new construction across the Green Line.

"If Israel were to go down the road of continued settlement expansion and were there not to be any result in the current talks, I am afraid that what will transpire is a situation where Israel finds itself increasingly isolated," Faaborg-Andersen said.

A major private Dutch pension fund announced earlier this month that it was divesting from five large Israeli banks because of their operations in the settlements, and Norwegian and Swedish funds are considering similar moves.

While EU states are not advising firms to cut investments in Israel, officials say companies might act unilaterally to avoid any backlash from clients increasingly disenchanted with Israel's presence in Judea and Samaria.

Economy and Trade Minister Naftali Bennett (Habayit Hayehudi) on Monday made light of the possibility of a boycott on Israel and has suggested that the government should look to bolster ties with emerging markets to offset problems with Europe.

If those banks don't want to do business with us, that's their loss. I would advise anyone more in the know with ties to those banks to divest from them to send bad Europeans a message.

A Muslim group is seeking Filipino government approval for opening a sharia bank on the island country:

The Arab Gulf Program for Development (AGFund) has applied for a license to operate an Islamic bank in the Philippines.

The bank, to be called “Ibdaa Microfinance Bank,” is expected to be operational within the year.

In a primer, AGFund said the bank’s objective is to help reduce poverty in the Philippines mainly by offering business loans to low-income earners.

AGFund is a regional institution based in Saudi Arabia. It pursues a development goal for various countries, particularly those confronted with a significant poverty problem.

Sharia only serves to make poverty situations worse, and if the Filipino government approves this, they'll only make things bad in many ways for the island.

Worldwide economic inequality is looking rather bleak these days, according to a new report by relief organization Oxfam. 

Oxfam's "Working For The Few" report looked at Credit Suisse's "Global Wealth Report 2013" and Forbes' list of the world's billionaires from 2013 to conclude that 1 percent of the global population controls half of the world's wealth. 

The report also found that the world's 85 richest people own the same amount as the bottom half of the entire global population. 

The ramifications of such inequality may be dire, the report suggests:
Oxfam calls on leaders gathered at the 2014 World Economic Forum in Davos, Switzerland, to tackle the growing inequality through multiple pledges, such as insisting on a living wage for companies they control, and by supporting progressive taxation.

This massive concentration of economic resources in the hands of fewer people presents a significant threat to inclusive political and economic systems. Instead of moving forward together, people are increasingly separated by economic and political power, inevitably heightening social tensions and increasing the risk of societal breakdown.

NYTIMES: Cuomo's Pre-K Plans Set Up Tax Conflict With de Blasio
Gov. Andrew M. Cuomo's offer of $1.5 billion to expand prekindergarten is likely to be seen as an attempt to outmaneuver Mayor Bill de Blasio, who said on Tuesday he would still seek to tax the rich to pay for the program.

The fact that De Blasio is upset is not because Cuomo is "stealing" his idea of making pre-K universal, (which every serious test has show to be a useless program which means that expanding it only benefits the teachers' union and not children).

De Blasio is upset because the most satisfying thing about the proposal was NEVER expanding the program and rewarding the machine that elected him.

The most satisfying things was TAKING MONEY AWAY FROM RICH PEOPLE.

With socialists, it's all about the taking.

Covetousness is the sin that drives their agenda.

I imagine if Cuomo wins this funding battle - which he will - and the state finances this useless program which ONLY benefits the teachers' union, that De Blasio will still attempt to raise taxes on the rich and just send the money on to some other useless socialist scheme which really only benefits the machine and their narcissistic consciences.

IMMIGRATION: IF IT AIN'T BROKE, THEN DON'T FIX IT!

Conventional wisdom says that EVERYONE agrees that our "immigration system is broken."

Well, er... um: I DISAGREE.

We have enough laws on the books; we just need to enforce them!

And we need a fence and a wall and a moat on our border with Mexico.

If the current system keeps illegals in the shadows: FINE, that's where they belong.

Let's make it easier for people with skills our economy needs and higher education to come here legally, and let's start cracking down on the people who are here illegally.

This will raise wages for the working-class and help restore respect for the rule of law.

Amnesty is doublespeak for a set of policies that benefits the Democrat Party and corporations that want to drive wages lower.

Amnesty is code for diminishing the culture of the United States of America - something we used to teach with PRIDE to very grade-school child in America - and replacing it with a postmodern pastiche of anti-American transnationalism.

Amnesty must not pass this Congress or the people will surely rise up and make 2010 look like a picnic.

HERE'S WHY UNIONS FAVOR ILLEGAL IMMIGRATION AND AMNESTY

I have been puzzled for a long time by unions that favor granting amnesty to illegal aliens.

After all, these 11 million illegals drive down wages, so... why do unions want them legalized so it's easier for employers to hire them?

Why do union want to increase the supply of labor when wages are stagnant and unemployment/underemployment so persistently high?

The answer is partisan politics:

The unions understand do care about average wages; they just care about union wages.

The government unions understand that they can get MUCH better deals from the democrat party and that the democrat party can turn the illegal aliens into democrat voters who will make it lore likely for dems to be elected and hand-out goodies to the unions.

The unions understand that the democrats will force employers to raise wages via the minimum wage.

In effect, the union bosses are willing to support amnesty even though it hurts workers because it helps them politically.

The unions put their political pals ahead of all workers, and their union workers in order to help their pals in the democrat party.

In effect, the unions are an arm of the democrat party and no longer advocates for workers.

DESPITE MOSHE YAALON'S BACKTRACK, THE PUBLIC AGREES WITH HIS PRIOR OPINION

Ya'alon also said that talks are not really taking place between ourselves and the Palestinians, but actually between ourselves and the Americans. We are the only ones who are giving, while the Palestinians are ratcheting up the incitement against us. Ya'alon has been saying for some time that Mahmoud Abbas "is not a partner to an agreement" and is "entrenched in his opinions." Was he making this up? Is this not a realistic view of the situation? Deal with that, not with the small stuff.[...]

Here it is, explicitly: The leader of the "moderate" Palestinian faction is saying that he has no authority to discuss the right of return because it is an individual matter. In other words, no Palestinian leader has the right to sign on to the "end of the conflict." Then what is to be discussed with them? Was Ya'alon mistaken, then, when he said that the talks were actually taking place between Israel and the U.S.? These are talks about Western fantasies, about how to use empty words to solve a conflict that is not (and has never been) territorial, but rather existential.

Yaalon was correct, and western governments shouldn't be deluding themselves, nor should they be spending so much money that only ends up in the hands of murderers.

Speaking of which, how can Canadian PM Stephen Harper say he's pro-Israel and then offer $66 million to the PLO? I'm afraid this is problematic, since he could've rejected the politically correct view of a Muslim society called "palestinians" existing, much like Newt Gingrich did, and said that the Muslims world shouldn't be feeding this kind of indoctrination to their subjects. Sooner or later, Harper and others like him are going to have to ask if they can keep on with this tommyrot, which is only costing a lot of good people their hard-earned money.

VERY REAL WORRIES ABOUT OLYMPIC SECURITY

Capitol Hill is worried, with good reason, about security at the next Olympic games, which are scheduled to take place in Russia:

Top Capitol Hill lawmakers on Sunday expressed concerns about terror attacks at the upcoming Olympic games in Sochi, Russia, amid nearby terror attacks and Russian President Vladimir Putin’s assurances that his country will “do whatever it takes” to protect athletes and visitors.

“The threats are real,” Texas GOP Rep. Mike McCaul, chairman of the House Homeland Security Committee, told ABC’s “This Week.”

McCaul is among those who think an attack during the games next month will most likely occur outside of the Olympic city and that terrorists will go after “soft targets” such as roads and transportation systems.

He's absolutely right to be concerned, and there've been more tragedies recently that were caused by jihadists:

On Sunday, in a new video that was posted on a Chechen extremist site, two militants vowed that tourists and Russians attending the games would not be safe.

On Friday, nine people were injured when a bomb exploded in the Russian southern province of Dagestan, which has become the center of an Islamist insurgency that has spread across the Caucasus region after two separatist wars in Chechnya.

The region is about 300 miles east of Sochi.

They followed two suicide bombing attacks in Volgograd in late December that killed 31 people and are believed to also have been orchestrated by Islamic militants. One attack was at a bus station, the other was at a train station. Such attacks had been limited to the country’s North Caucasus region, to which at least one of the Boston Marathon bombers was connected.

McCaul suggested the two suicide bombers in December were connected to an Al Qaeda faction.

One of the leading reasons why jihadists do these sadistic acts is because destroying other people's happiness is a core component of Islam. But how good a job will Putin's security staff do in making sure local Islamofascists don't succeed in causing a tragedy?

MANY WOMEN IN SYDNEY, AUSTRALIA ARE CONVERTING TO ISLAM

Australia is just discovering that they have a serious case of women converting to the Religion of Peace:

MORE than100 people - most of them women - are converting to Islam in Sydney each year, and ­experts warn some new converts are more likely to adopt extremist elements of the religion.

Such radicalism was highlighted by the death last week in Syria of former Queensland Anglican schoolgirl turned Muslim jihadist Amira Karroum, 22, who is believed to have been killed by rebel fighters in Aleppo alongside her US-born husband Yusuf Ali.

Ms Karroum had adopted an extremist form of the faith, praising terrorist Osama bin Laden and supporting the ­violent Muslim riots in Sydney in 2012.

[...] The Australian New Muslim Association estimates two-thirds of the converts they see each year are female, with more than 60 per cent converting because of their husbands or partners.

If this is accurate, it tells that quite a few women out there lack self esteem very badly. It makes me begin to wonder if Jewish missionaries are doing a disfavor by failing to offer alternatives of their own. In other words, if the Christian advocates don't succeed, shouldn't the Jewish advocates at least try where they failed?

FROM ISLAM TO ATHEISM, A HARD PATH FOR APOSTATES TO TRAVEL

An ex-Muslim spoke with the UK Independent about her departure from the Religion of Peace, and how she became an atheist:

Amal Farah, a 32-year-old banking executive, is laughing about a contestant singing off-key in the last series of The X Factor. For a woman who was not allowed to listen to music when she was growing up, this is a delight. After years of turmoil, she is in control of her own life.

On the face of it, she is a product of modern Britain. Born in Somalia to Muslim parents, she grew up in Yemen and came to the UK in her late teens. After questioning her faith, she became an atheist and married a Jewish lawyer. But this has come at a cost. When she turned her back on her religion, she was disowned by her family and received death threats. She has not seen her mother or her siblings for eight years. None of them have met her husband or daughter.

“It was the hardest thing I’ve ever done – telling my observant family that I was having doubts. My mum was shocked; she began to cry. It was very painful for her. When she realised I actually meant it, she cut communication with me,” said Ms Farah. “She was suspicious of me being in contact with my brothers and sisters. She didn’t want me to poison their heads in any way. I felt like a leper and I lived in fear. As long as they knew where I was, I wasn’t safe.”

This is the first time Ms Farah has spoken publicly about her experience of leaving her faith, after realising that she did not want to keep a low profile for ever. She is an extreme case – her mother, now back in Somalia, has become increasingly radical in her religious views. But Ms Farah is not alone in wanting to speak out.

It can be difficult to leave any religion, and those that do can face stigma and even threats of violence. But there is a growing movement, led by former Muslims, to recognise their existence. Last week, an Afghan man is believed to have become the first atheist to have received asylum in Britain on religious grounds. He was brought up as a Muslim but became an atheist, according to his lawyers, who said he would face persecution and possibly death if he returned to Afghanistan.

Any religion? Uh-uh. Just one that advocates death to those who would dare commit apostasy like Islam does. As for her husband, I assume he's not religious either.

Islam is such a repellent ideology, it would be no surprise if it does have the effect of turning some people atheist, if it's all they knew growing up.
